AN: I haven't written this story for a whiiiiile and I apologize for that, it just seemed to lose my interest and other things came up. I also changed the storyline a little, but I hope you still enjoy it. I'm trying to be fair in the update of my fics, however if a work does get a lot of reviews then I will prioritize that higher.

Chapter Nine :: Spread those broken wings

Burt looked between Lance and Blaine as they sat in the diner, there had already been a few people who had come up to ask Lance for his autograph and Lance had smiled and given it to them quickly, but Blaine knew he just wanted some time with his father.

"Once again, I'm not sure how this happened," Blaine tried to explain to Burt who was looking at him as if demanding to know an answer to a question or two, answers that nobody seemed to have. "However, I'm really really glad that it has happened. I mean, I wish that the death hadn't happened, but this, having another chance, it's amazing."

Lance sighed as he looked around at the people staring at him, "It's amazing for me too, but I wish right now I wasn't in public. If something were to slip out in a report I'd…"

"…lose your standing as a sane actor?" Burt asked as Lance nodded nervously. "Well, we'll have to keep our conversation to a minimum, but really, I agree with Blaine. No matter what body you're in, I'm very very glad to be able to hear about my son again."

Lance shifted uncomfortably, "I don't know how much I'd say that I'm your son, maybe in a spiritual level…or innately, but…"

Burt sighed as he looked Lance in the eye and smiled, "Do you want to be my son?" he whispered, making sure no one else was to hear the conversation.

Lance nodded with the same kind of nervousness.

"Then you're my son," Burt grinned with a light chuckle as Lance grinned in return, Blaine could finally see so much happiness in the other actor and he was proud that he had had a part in making that happen. "Biology doesn't mean all that much and I'd rather take part of you than none of you, after all the times we've interacted in the past."

Lance nodded as he smiled at Blaine and noticed how happy Blaine was for him. Blaine had been the reason that Kurt had his father back and Lance was extremely grateful that that had happened. He took a breath in and looked ahead at Blaine, "I think tomorrow I'll break up with Patrick," he announced as Blaine's eyes widened in surprise.

Yes, this was what he had been wishing for, but something that had happened so quickly seemed outside of Lance's…Kurt's…plan. Didn't this go back on a lot of the things that Lance had said? Sure, Blaine didn't care about how Lance might ruin his career, Blaine would be just as happy if he had to spend the rest of his life writing under a pseudonym as long as they were together. He did feel nervous about how this could affect Lance, to be with a younger and very green actor. Would that cause a PR nightmare?

"I…" Blaine whispered as Lance looked at him.

"I know what really matters to me, Blaine. I don't want to have to give that up, the fact that you got my da—-the fact that you got Burt down here is making me realize what is most important to me, and that is you. I'd rather risk my career and reputation than risk being without you," Lance reached out for Blaine's hand. "That is, if you'll take me."

"Ye-Yeah, 'course," Blaine stuttered.

Lance grinned and Blaine smiled back.

Finally, finally everything was coming together again, finally they could be a couple and even if it was in a completely different body, Blaine could have his Kurt back. He didn't know if there was anything that could make him happier, but in a lot of ways he doubted that that possibility existed. Okay, so maybe if he could have Kurt in his own body that would be something that would be better, but that seemed to impossible.

This was enough, this would always be enough.

The dinner ended on a calm note where Blaine felt incredibly happy to have had a part in it, he had bonded with the men around him and come out with something amazing, the promise of a real relationship. He now knew he meant more to Lance and to Kurt than anything.

That night Blaine received a text message that seemed to remind him everything would be alright.

I broke up with Patrick. From today onwards I'm all yours - Kurt

Blaine had forgotten how amazing waking up in the morning could be, he had forgotten how he could actually start enjoying life again and he now felt that he could do that without restrictions, Kurt had decided that he wanted to be with Blaine again even if it would cause problems with his new identity.

It made Blaine feel worth so much more in life than he had ever imagined before.

Kurt…Lance still loved him, he was loved and treasured and it felt absolutely amazing. As he woke up he went to the window to get some fresh air, but upon opening the windows a small bird flew into the room. A canary that had such a strong familiarity to it. It seemed a familiarity that was stronger than the bird being like Pavarotti, something so unique about it.

Blaine very very gently, ran his finger over the bird's head, stroking him.

The bird chirped sadly and Blaine looked into those sad eyes. There was such emotional depth in them that didn't seem natural for a bird, there was something so familiar about those black eyes as well, but Blaine had absolutely no idea what it was or what it could be.

"Hey little guy," Blaine smiled, "I have to go take a shower and pick out some clothes to wear, but you're welcome to stay in my room if you want to. I'll leave the window open for you."

The bird chirped sadly and Blaine gave a smile before leaving the room to go and get himself changed.

The little bird watched him go, such a sense of despair in his eyes.

When Blaine returned in a bathrobe and started changing, the bird watched him silently. The bird watched as Blaine styled his hair and picked out his clothes and started to change. When Blaine had slipped his vest on, the bird flew over to the desk and picked up a blue and red striped bow tie with his feet and flew over to Blaine, nearly falling down due to the weight of the tie that he was carrying.

Blaine stared at the bow tie as the bird dropped it into his hand and frowned, what was going on? This was a very smart bird, had Cooper trained him to do this? Was this some kind of a joke?

"You know what I like don't you?" he asked as the bird nodded.

Blaine frowned as he looked at the ceiling, "I'm imagining things," he commented aloud as the bird flew over to a picture that Blaine had of himself and Kurt. The bird tapped the photo of Kurt with his beak, giving a small tapping over Kurt and then looking at Blaine longingly before repeating the action.

Blaine grinned, "That's my boyfriend, I'm going to go meet with him now," he smiled before walking over and stroking the bird's head again before getting his bag and leaving.

The bird looked after him sadly.
