After his sanity shattered, Zath'nor's shaman mentor, a Tauren shaman named Maltus, took responsibility for him, seeing his teachings as being the reason for Zath'nor's insanity.

"He could still be one of us." Maltus pleaded, talking to his Earthen Ring colleague.

The Troll shaman shook his head. "What could he be doin' for us? You see da orc, he be crazy."

Maltus sighed. "And that means he should be denied a home that could be perfect for him?"

"He'd be puttin' our members in danger, mon. Why do you care?"

Maltus closed his eyes and shook his head. "It's my fault he's like this. But... especially after what's happened, I feel it's my duty to care for him."

Sighing, the Troll looked Maltus straight in the eyes. "I suppose we can try, but you be responsible for any ting he does dat hurts da Earthen Ring."

Agreeing to these conditions, he returned to his home where Zath'nor was chained up (an act Maltus performed himself, though not happily).

"I've found a better home for you, Zath'nor. You'll be amongst friends, and others who can teach you."

Growling and barking, the insane shaman pulled at his chains. "Ragh! Release me! RELEASE ME!"

Maltus nodded. "I am going to now, friend. I did this for the good of everyone, yourself included, but I feel this new path will be good for everyone as opposed to more of this."

All Zath'nor did as Maltus undid his chains was scream and babble nonsense. Maltus' sorrow deepened with every passing day, feeling he was to blame for his friend's current condition, but as he brought Zath'nor to the Temple of Earth, he felt there was hope yet for him and his student.
