**A/N Okay, so MEG IS IN. I love Meg. Meg is fabulous. Meg. And I ship Megstiel so much. Ah, Meg. But anyway, once again I've had to use some lines from the transcript to keep the flow going where I need it to, so if you recognise it, it isn't mine. Sadly, but surely. ALSO, I now have 14 followers on this story and I love everyone of you. Enjoy.**
Watching over Dean, Sam and Meg, Wallis stood beside Amy and Cas. Meg was now sat on the bed, her legs crossed and her arms holding her up as she leaned forward. Wallis couldn't help but feel uneasy in her presence.
"So, you've been telling Crowley the location of the crypts?" Sam asked Meg. Wallis crossed her arms restlessly as she waited for the reply. Meg watched her.
"Anything to get a break from the constant torture." Meg snarked. "I gotta ask," She added. "Who are these two?" She looked to Wallis and Amy tentatively. Dean turned in his seat, meeting Wallis' eyes for a moment before turning back to face Meg.
"Meg - Wallis, Wallis - Meg." He said, pointing backwards to Wallis with his thumb. "Amy - Meg, Meg - Amy." He then added, pointing to Amy.
"Pleasure." Amy said plainly. Meg raised an eyebrow at her and for a moment her eyes flashed black. Wallis took a step forward and pulled herself up to her full height.
"Hey-" Dean said, holding out a hand in front of Wallis. "Back to the subject."
"Right. I haven't been giving Crowley the exact locations, I get him in the ballpark." Meg stated. Wallis looked to Dean. She wasn't fond of being clueless, but her current situation was beyond her help.
"You've been lying to them?" Castiel asked in his gruff tone. Wallis saw Amy shifting slightly from the corner of her eye. Apparently, so did Meg, as she straightened her back slightly, watching Amy.
"Yeah, I've been buying myself some time. Trying to get free." Meg said, still watching Amy. Wallis noticed this, pursing her lips.
"Innocent people died, so you could buy some time?" Sam asked, unbelievingly.
"Hi, I'm Meg. I'm a demon."
"What have they found?" Asked Cas. Meg responded almost instantly with:
"Nothing. Every crypt's been one Al Capone's vault after another. And on top of that, someone kept picking up the trail and icing demons. I'm guessing that was you, Clarence. But Crowley just keeps sending more. He's hell-bent on finding that Angel Tablet." Wallis looked to Cas, then to Amy, who was looking back at her.
"Hold on, Angel Tablet?!" Sam called.
"You know, I see where the 'Moose' thing comes from, now." Meg stated. Wallis raised her eyebrows, looking amusedly at Sam, who pursed his lips and grimaced.
"Moose?" Wallis asked, holding back a smirk. "Have you got a nickname, Dean?" She asked. Dean turned to face her slowly, his jaw tense as he watched her.
"Not the time, Wallis." He said, then turned again. Meg was looking between Wallis and Dean, laughing.
"I see what's going on here," Meg nodded. "Cute couple." She nodded. Wallis gritted her teeth, becoming angry.
"We - are - not - dating." Wallis said pointedly, walking forward. "Now, tell us about the Angel Tablet." Wallis said, her tone poisonous as she leaned downwards, eye-level with Meg, who's lips turned into a twisted smile.
"Crowley found out Lucifer had the Tablet, he figured it was stashed in a crypt." Meg said, her head leaning to one side as she stared at Wallis, who drew herself back up to her full height and unfolded her arms.
"The demons I interrogated must have been lying about their true intentions." Said Castiel. Dean opened his mouth as he turned in his seat to face Cas, but Meg interjected.
"Look, the demons are in the wrong place, soon they're gonna find out that the Tablet isn't there. Who's up for running?" Meg asked the room. Wallis looked down at Dean then over to Sam.
"I say we go find the crypt before they come back for her." She said, casting an unsure glance down to Meg.
"I say you're right, but she's coming too." Sam said to Wallis. "She's the only one who knows the location of the crypt." He added, to which Wallis nodded slowly, but grudgingly.
"I'm going to need a map. And a drink." Meg said, her tone relaxed. Dean stood up and looked at Cas, then back to Meg. Wallis saw something uncertain in his eyes, before he turned away.
"I know just where we can go." He said, looking to Sam for confirmation. Sam nodded and Dean spoke again. "Now, Cas, you and Meg zap yourselves on over to Mr Morton's house. We'll meet you there." Dean said firmly. Cas walked to Meg and put his hand on her shoulder, with a nod, there was a fluttering sound and they were gone.
"You're right," Amy said, still staring at the spot Cas had been standing in. "You don't get used to it." Wallis nodded, also looking at the bed.
"We gotta go." Sam said, to which Dean made his way to the door. Amy and Wallis followed quickly, out in to the hallway towards the exit.
Amy and Wallis walked around the strange kitchen, as Castiel sat in the living room, wringing his hands as his eyes darted nervously. Wallis watched him as she raided a cupboard, shifting empty bottles to find some alcohol. She grabbed a bottle of whiskey that hadn't been opened, straightened her back and sat it on the breakfast counter, where Amy was perched. Wordlessly, Wallis poured the liquor into the two glasses Amy had set out beside her. Amy was watching Cas silently. Wallis picked up a glass and held it out to Amy.
"Hey," She said, nudging Amy's arm. Amy's head clicked round and she looked down to the glass in Wallis' hand, taking it from her.
"Thanks." She said quietly.
"Here's your jaw, I found it on the floor." Wallis said mockingly as she picked up her own drink. Amy rolled her eyes. "Looks like you've got some competition." Wallis added, referring to Meg.
"What?" Amy asked, sipping the drink gingerly.
"Meg and Cas, they seem to be a bit of a thing. Or Meg seems to think so. Wings over there doesn't seem very - observant - shall we say." Wallis said, looking past Amy to Cas.
"Demon and an Angel. Working together." Amy smirked unbelievingly. "I read a book like that once."
"I remember." Wallis nodded. There were footsteps coming from the basement and Amy jumped down from the bar, sitting down her drink. Meg's voice could be heard in the living room.
"Any booze in this dump?" She asked. Wallis watched on as Cas pointed to her and Amy. Meg smiled again, walking into the kitchen. "You done with this?" She asked, picking up the whiskey. Wallis locked her eyes on Meg's.
"For now." She said furtively. Meg nodded, her smile twisting maliciously.
"You know, I'm really not all that bad. I saved Bonnie and Clyde down there a few times." Meg said to Wallis and Amy, gesturing to Sam and Dean in the basement. "Well, I'm bad, but I'm kinda good. Which sucks." She shrugged, opening the bottle and throwing the cap across the room. With that, she turned and walked back into the living room to sit with Cas. Wallis still tracked her movements as she watched Meg recline into the sofa, Cas beginning to look at the injuries on her arms.
"I don't care what Sam and Dean say," Wallis muttered. "I don't trust Demons, regardless of how 'good' they are." Amy was clattering around, opening cupboards and raiding the fridge.
"Would it have killed this guy to buy a microwave meal?" She asked, pulling out a handful of root vegetables from the bottom of his fridge. Wallis turned, looking at her pulling out what appeared to be left-over lasagne. "I swear I'm going to start munching on raw carrots if I don't eat soon." She said, holding her stomach. Sighing, Wallis walked out into the living room. Meg and Cas both looked up at her, Meg drinking the whiskey straight from the bottle. Before Wallis could speak, Dean emerged from the basement.
"Let's roll, campers." He said, heading straight for the door. Wallis' head turned as he powered past her.
"Hold on," She said with a small laugh. "Where are we going?" She asked Dean. "What's the plan?" Dean turned on his heels, staring at her in silence. Sam's eyes flitted between Dean and Wallis, as if he was waiting for something. Wallis grew uneasy in the tension, she saw Amy slowly walking to her side.
"You're going home." Dean said sternly. Wallis' brow furrowed as she smirked.
"Wait, what? Sorry, no." She said with a small laugh. "We're not going anywhere."
"No, Sam and I can do this. We got Meg and Cas. Any more people and it's too dangerous." He said to Wallis, stepping forward.
"You think we don't know that?!" Wallis cried. Dean inched back. "We've had our fair share of danger, Dean. We can handle it." Dean pursed his lips and sighed.
"I didn't even want to bring you out here!" He called. Wallis recoiled, shaking her head.
"What? Why not?" Wallis questioned him, confused. Dean looked everywhere apart from at Wallis.
"Dean - we need them." Sam said, moving closer to them. Dean looked perturbed.
"I - just - Get in the car." He said, turning again and storming out of the house. As Dean walked out, Wallis felt an anger rising inside her. Gritting her teeth, she rubbed her eyes for a moment.
"You know - for a second there - I thought they were gonna kiss. I nearly threw up." Meg said to Cas as they stood up. Wallis rounded on Meg, her hand on the gun tucked into her jeans as she stepped closer to her.
"Hey, hey!" Sam said, throwing an arm out in front of Wallis. Castiel stood between Meg and Sam. "Relax, okay?" Sam said. Meg looked to Wallis with a dark humour and crossed her arms. Wallis grabbed Sam's arm and pushed it away from her, relaxing her grip on the gun and turning away.
"What the hell is his problem?" She called, looking to Sam again.
"We don't have time, not just now. Just, please, can we get in the car?" Sam pleaded, pointing to the doorway. Wallis huffed and trudged out of the room, walking out onto the front porch. She took a deep breath, seeing Dean waiting in the driver's seat and began to walk down the steps. Hearing the footsteps of Sam, Amy, Meg and Cas behind her, she looked at the Impala.
"We're not all going to fit in there." Amy said, looking back to Cas and Meg. Sam muttered something to Cas and with another flutter, he and Meg disappeared.
"That works for me." Wallis said, continuing on to the car.
As she took a seat beside Amy in the back of the car, she mentally fired every curse word she knew at the back of Dean's head. Who was he, to tell her to leave? To tell her to go home? Did he think they were a liability? Wallis' contempt grew as she resisted the urge to slap the back of Dean's head and kick his seat. Folding her arms, she gazed out of the window.
Every now and then Dean would risk a glance into the rear-view mirror to look at her, sitting with her arms folded across her chest as she glared outside. Rubbing a hand across his face, he gritted his teeth. Once again, he had managed to drag more people into this mess. He seemed to have a knack for that. Drumming his fingers on the steering wheel, he quickly looked in to the rear-view mirror again. Amy was watching him through the mirror, her eyes locked onto his. She wasn't angry, her eyes were tired and expectant as she watched him. Her eyes flitted from Dean's to Wallis' beside her, as if hinting to knew exactly what she was saying.
You've hurt her.
With a deep sigh, Dean turned into an alley beside an abandoned warehouse. The sky was darkening as he cut the engine and they stepped out from the car, Wallis slamming the door. Dean flinched at the collision but stayed quiet, not wanting to add fuel to the fire. As Sam passed him, he gave him a reassuring look.
"Where are they?" Amy asked, looking around the dark alley. Dean heard banging and shouting from inside they warehouse, his head turning quickly to the exit of the alley.
"Inside, now!" He cried, beginning to run out of the alley and to the large doors of the warehouse. He looked around him for Sam as he stood at the doors. As Sam approached, slightly breathless, they nodded in unison and slammed their feet to the large panelled doors. With a crash, they flew open and fell to the ground. Dean's gun was in his hand as Sam had sprung the Demon-knife into his own grip. Looking beyond the mess of the doors, Meg and Cas stood, Cas staring down at three bodies while Meg watched on, an almost proud smile on her face.
"You took your time." Meg grinned. Dean lowered his gun as he and Sam stepped over the doors.
"Shut up, Meg." He said quickly.
"The place is clear." Cas said to Dean with a nod. He tucked his gun back into his jeans and nodded.
"Good. All right, Cas, Amy, come with me. Wallis and Meg, stay with Sam." He instructed, pulling the torch from his pocket.
"No, Amy - you're staying here." Wallis said pointedly. "I'm going with Cas and Dean." With those words, Dean sighed.
"Do you live to make things difficult for me?" He asked, a sarcastically sweet smile on his face.
"I don't see how that makes anything difficult for you, but I guess it does amuse me slightly." She said, walking towards him. He shook his head, giving in.
"You know what, fine." He said, holding up his hands. "Sammy, there's paint in the trunk," He added, taking the keys from his pocket. "Decorate the place, would you?" He asked, throwing the keys. Sam nodded as he caught them, then turned to leave. Dean watched Amy as she and Meg stood beside each other awkwardly.
"Dean, we need to hurry." Cas instructed. Dean looked at him.
"Lead the way." Dean said, holding out his arm. Castiel turned and walked along a damp hallway and Wallis followed him. Dean walked to her side, casting a glance back to Amy and Sam, ensuring they were out of ear shot. Wallis looked at him for a second, then back to Cas as he trudged along in front. "Wallis, you can't say you think it's a good idea leaving Amy back there." Dean said to her quietly. Wallis raised an eyebrow.
"Why?" She asked, sounding bored.
"I don't know if demons can get jealous, but I wouldn't want to see one if they did." He replied.
"Amy can handle it." Was all Wallis said.
"Why would Amy have to handle a jealous demon?" Cas asked them, still facing forward as he lead them through the warehouse. Wallis looked up at Dean, shocked but amused.
"He's clueless." She smirked. Dean nodded, then laughed slightly. For a moment they stayed quiet, the only sound being the soft thud of their feet on the ground. Dean swallowed hard as he looked down at Wallis again, but he didn't speak.
Once they found the crypt, Wallis hung back, standing at the entrance. Dean looked around the stone walls, then to Cas. He seemed distant, but at the same time, driven.
"Dean, it's there." Cas said monotonously, pointing to the wall. Dean followed his arm to the wall, spotting a wooden chest with carvings over it. Stepping over to it, he picked it up from the old shelf and set it out on a large surface in the middle of the grey, dusty crypt. He tried to pry it open with his hands, but the was too stiff. After hitting it with his fist a few times, he sighed.
"What's wrong, Hulk? Not opening for you?" Wallis asked, stepping down the concrete steps, ducking under spider webs. Dean watched her as she bent down, pulled a small blade from her boot and handed it to him. "Try that." She said, leaning on the large stone table. He nodded, unsure of how to react. Sliding the blade under the lid, he cracked it open.
"Winner, winner, chicken dinner." He said, handing the knife back to Wallis, offering her a smile. She returned the smile, stepping back to let Dean open the box. Looking inside, he saw a large slate. He reached inside, pulling it out and holding it tight. "Let's go." He said firmly. Wallis turned towards the door and Dean made to follow her, before Cas' gruff voice stopped him.
"Dean, give me the tablet and I'll take it to Heaven." Dean turned and looked at him, his eyes examining Cas'. He began to shake his head.
"No, we will take it to Kevin. He can translate it." He corrected.
"Okay," Cas began to look desperate. "I'll take it to him, save time." Cas nodded eagerly.
"No, Sam and I can do it. You focus on your mission. You know, Demon tablet?" Dean reasoned. He watched as Cas grew tense, every doubt in his body seemed emphasized. Something wasn't right.
"I can't let you take it, Dean." Cas said firmly. "And I won't." Dean thought for a moment. He had had enough. Enough of Cas' lies and enough of his schemes.
"Tell me, Cas." He said. "How did you get out of Purgatory? Tell me the truth, just this once. Then you can have it." Dean said, holding up the Tablet teasingly. As Dean finished speaking, Cas' Angel blade appeared in his hand. Taking a shaky breath, Dean inched backwards. His eyes flitted to Wallis' face, which was awash with confusion and shock. "Cas, this isn't you." Dean said warily. "I know you're in there somewhere, I know you can here me." Dean voice began to shake, he had no idea what to do.
"Cas?" Wallis' voice rang out, frightened and unsure. Cas' head snapped round to face her as she approached them.
"No, Wallis, stay back." Dean said, holding out a hand towards her. She stopped suddenly, but after a brief pause she continued towards him.
"Cas, put the blade down." She was trying to keep her voice steady. Looking to Dean, she took a deep breath. "Who's doing this?" She asked him, taking a step closer. Dean's whole body tensed as she neared them.
"Stay. Away." Cas said sternly, still watching Dean.
"Cas-" With that, Castiel turned swiftly, the blade in his hand scratching across Wallis' leg before he threw her to the ground.
"Cas, what the hell is going on?!" Dean cried out, looking at Wallis as she lay on the ground, her eyes closed. As panic coarsed through him, he turned to Cas, who was walking towards him, a determind look on his face. "Cas?" Dean asked, his voice breaking before Cas' hand collided with his face, bringing a searing pain to his jaw. As Cas repeatedly struck Dean's face, pressure and pain building beneath his skin, Dean cried out to him, pleading. "Cas, fight this, this isn't you!" He called, his voice muffled through his swollen lip and the blood trickling into his mouth. Just as Dean's eyes began to flutter, the spinning room becoming to much, Castiel spoke.
"What have you done to me, Naomi?" Castiel asked. Dean could see pain in his eyes and feel it in his voice as it broke. The angel blade fell to the ground. Cas' grip on Dean's shoulder loosened and Dean fell backwards, breathing deeply to try and drown out the piercing pain on his face. Wallis lay beside him, still unconscious. Thoughts of the worst soared through his head, but he fought them back.
"Who's Naomi?" But as Dean spoke, Cas turned on him again. Again he attacked, more punches colliding with Dean's jaw. Then, a great pain ripped through his body as he felt something snap. The tablet that was clutched in his arms fell to the ground, shattering and revealing a smaller stone inside. Dean looked to Cas through his swollen eyes. He was unable to move, every bone in his body screamed as he tried. Cas picked up the tablet, then brought the blade back up again, ready to strike Dean. "Cas-" Dean choked. "Cas, please. We're family. We need you. I need you." He pleaded, every ounce of pain making it harder and harder to breathe. His eyes fluttered as a great, white light filled the room. Dean's head lulled back as the light began to fade. Cas seemed to be reaching for Dean. "No, Cas- please-" As Cas' hand touched his face, the pain was gone. His eyes weren't swollen any more and opened fully. He moved freely and painlessly.
"I'm so sorry, Dean." Castiel spoke softly. "Naomi, she trained me to kill you, but I couldn't." Cas' words brought some solace, but not much, as Dean moved to Wallis as she lay on the ground. Her face was cut and bloodied after the collision.
"Why not?" He asked, trying understand. "What broke the connection, Cas?" Dean watched him closely, his hands resting on Wallis' shoulders.
"I don't know. All I know is that I need to protect this Tablet. From Naomi, and you." Castiel said, looking at Dean sincerely.
"Me?! What?!" With that, Castiel was gone, as a loud crashing came from the top of the steps. Sam clambered quickly down them as Amy followed him.
"What happened?!" She cried, running over beside Wallis and kneeling. "Where's Cas?!"
"He's gone, don't worry, she'll be fine. I promise." Dean said, holding Amy's arm before sliding his own arms underneath Wallis. As he picked her up and got to his feet, Sam spoke.
"We need to go." Sam said urgently, then began running back up the stairs. Amy followed suit and Dean walked behind, carrying Wallis up the steps.
As he quickly travelled along the hallways to the exit, he glanced down at Wallis as she lay in his arms. He gritted his teeth as he tried to concentrate on her breathing, but the sound of their footsteps was too loud. He cursed Castiel, following Sam and Amy out the side exit, into the alleyway. Sam threw open the back doors and Dean lay Wallis down, sitting down beside her and resting her head on his lap.
"You drive, Sammy!" Dean called as he tried to wipe Wallis' face with his sleeve.
"What?!" Sam cried.
"Just drive!" Dean exclaimed. He pulled the door shut and continued to wipe Wallis' face as Amy and Sam sat in the front seat. Although Cas was gone, Dean knew he could still hear Dean. As he sat with Wallis' head resting between his hands, her hair falling onto his legs as he brushed it from her face, he prayed.
Castiel, if she doesn't wake up, you better get your ass back here. So I can kick it and so you can help her.
