Klaus whisked Caroline away to the most romantic city on Earth: Venice where they could finally have some time together as a couple without any distractions and they were happy. For the first time in a while they were both happy.
"Klaus come on I want to go on a gondola" Caroline shouted to Klaus as she waited by the door, camera in hand.
"Again love?" Klaus smirked as he strutted down the stairs holding a creamy white rose tinged with red specks behind his back. "This is for you love. I saw it and thought it was apt". He drank in Caroline's beauty, she was the radiant light to his dark shadow and glowed happiness in every step she took. She was beautiful. And she was his.
"It's beautiful Nik. Thank you" Caroline softened seeing the gorgeous rose and enveloped him in a hug. She was happy that they were together. Despite what her so-called friends had said he truly was a lovely and kind man when you got to know him. It was just the pain that burdened him that made him the monster he was previously but now she thought that burden had lessened.
They walked out of the beautiful villa that the Mikaelson's owned, a marble beauty softened by the sheer amount of flowers in every crevice, hand in hand content with each other. She loved to sightsee and visit every tourist destination around whilst he- he painted her time and time again at every place they visited together.
New Orleans
"Rebekah, there has been some troubling news" Elijah told his sister as he surveyed their city: New Orleans. He and Rebekah had stayed back to take care of the city they had built and for a few months there had been peace amongst everyone. But now it seemed that tensions were once again on the rise. "A witch has been found dead, drained of blood alongside a werewolf and vampires are being blamed" He finished with a thoughtful air.
"Have you any clue who is behind this? Could it be a vampire?" Rebekah questioned as she thought intently.
"The evidence points to Marcel and his men as well as us: the Mikaelsons because of the callous way the blood was drained. I fear someone is trying to set us up and cause conflict" he said angrily, he was angry because they were a family once more, Marcel included, and yet would they never gain peace.
"Calm down. Should we call Nik and Care back?" Rebekah asked logically. She was simmering with rage and yet she knew she had to be rational for Elijah was deeply angered and troubled. This was unlike him. He was usually the calmest and most logical but at the thought of something harming his family his rage would boil over.
"No. Not yet. Let us see if we can solve this problem by ourselves. In the meantime talk to the vampires. I will talk to Hayley and the wolves and Marcel will talk to Davina and the witches" he formulated a plan as he was desperate to take down those who would dare hurt his family. They sped off in different directions, eager to find the culprit and end this tension before it worsened.
Venice
"Nik?" Caroline asked with a big grin on her face.
"Yes love?" Klaus grinned devilishly as he watched his lovely love: Caroline. She truly was radiant beauty with soft blonde hair and cornflower blue eyes but even more so when she smiled.
"This has been the best holiday ever! I wish we could stay here forever" Caroline burst out passionately as she grabbed Klaus's hand. He was a monster and a tyrant but he was also her parfait gentil knight and that dark side was as good as gone.
"But love our home is in New Orleans and so we have to return. Let's make the most of our last night here" Klaus persuaded her with soft gentle kisses running down the nape of her neck. She shivered with delight as his hands caressed her body and let out a moan. She was convinced. He pushed her down on the bed and began tearing her clothes off, letting his wolf side show in their passionate, animalistic love. They made violent love that night before being awoken by a phone call of desperation.
"Nik! I can't find Elijah!" Rebekah sobbed down the phone as she explained the problems that had been going on. New Orleans was in turmoil. First the supposed vampire killings of a wolf and witch, then the death of Thierry and now both Elijah and Marcel were missing.
"What? We are returning immediately Bekah. Don't fret I will reclaim our town" Klaus proclaimed down the phone, vengeance running through his mind.
Their happiness was disrupted by Elijah's' absence and so they returned. Klaus was in a frenzy and called a town meeting the minute they were back in order to find his brother. A tiny part of Caroline longed for the blissful happiness they had in Venice but for the most part she understood and was practical.
"Who dares to take my brother?" Klaus shouted, venom and anger laced in his tone as he surveyed the town which he built. Which they built. He leapt forward and grabbed Hayley. "Little wolf what do you know?" he was strangling her, his primal side unleashed when Caroline pulled them apart.
" Calm Nik. Remain calm" she persuaded him to let go and tugged him back to her side. "Everyone here has 24 hours to return our brothers or give us information on how to find them" Caroline announced before grabbing Nik and speeding into Mikaelson Manor.
"I am so sorry Nik. I should have told you sooner but Elijah wanted you to have peace for a while" Bekah apologised, tears streaming down her face as she thought once more how her family had been disrupted. Why could they never be happy? Every taste of happiness they had ever got was marred by some conflict or problem. They had thought they were free. They would never be free. She sunk onto the floor and let out a wail and Nik crouched down and comforted his baby sister. She deserved happiness. They all did. This time he would ensure it.
Caroline spotted Hayley approaching, flanked by her wolf pack and turned around to inform Klaus when she suddenly felt faint. Her eyes blurred and her vision dimmed. Her body was shaking and she could feel herself falling. She was swamped in darkness. It clouded her mind until she finally fell into the deep black darkness that engulfed her.
