To Helheim and Back
Summary: Moonstar has never been an ordinary Narnian unicorn, but when he gets thrown into the events of Underworld, he finds out just what true love and sacrifice is.
I am a little afraid to go home. I have been mortal, and some part of me is mortal yet. I am no longer like the others, for no unicorn was ever born who could regret, but I now I do. I regret. (The Last Unicorn).
"It is time Daughter of Eve," Aslan rumbled quietly.
"Please, sir," Amelia Croft whispered.
"Peace Daughter. Lara is not yet ready for this place. Her home and those she calls friends remain on Earth."
Lara looked up at the Lion. "What about Alister?"
"If he wishes, he may return with you," Aslan replied.
Moonstar cantered over. "What about me?"
"What do you wish Little Star?"
Moonstar looked at the hopeful trio and then turned to look at his herd. Snowfall moved forward. "Go my own. We shall be waiting when you make the journey."
Moonstar trotted to her and rubbed his horn against hers. "I'll miss you Mother."
"And I you, my little Star." Snowfall whinnied. She drew back. "Lead them home, my son. Know that I love you forever."
Aslan led them back to the door and roared. The door swung open, white glittering around it.
"Where will we end up?" Lara asked.
"Your mansion Daughter of Eve."
Lara nodded. "I'll go first then." With that she jumped through the portal.
Zip was frantic and trying his best to hide it. First Moonstar had vanished. Then Alister's body had disappeared into thin air. Lara was going to kill him. Winston was just as worried. There had been no word from Lara since she had reached Antarctica. They had no way to know what had happened since then.
A crackle came from nearby. Both men exchanged glances. Then a crack rang out as reality split to reveal a white portal. After a moment Lara appeared through the portal and landed on the grass. She smiled then turned back to the portal.
"Come on!"
Another woman came through and Lara caught her before she fell. "We really need to look at that ankle don't we," Lara remarked.
"Lay off," Amanda snapped, hobbling a bit away from the portal.
Lara's brow lifted in amusement and she shook her head.
"You two coming or what?"
Then was a long pause, then two more figures came flying out. Moonstar sailed over both women to land safely. His passenger turned back toward Lara.
"We decided to just come together."
"So you didn't have to jump?" Lara asked in a teasing tone.
Alister flushed but Moonstar whickered in amusement as the portal glittered and then vanished.
Zip's jaw hung open. A fact Amanda took advantage of. "Might want to close your mouth before something flies in there," the white haired woman called.
Zip closed his jaw with a snap and glared at her. But even Amanda couldn't distract him from the impossible sight of his very much alive best friend. "How?"
Lara laughed, joy showing in her eyes. "You won't believe even half of this."
"Try me."
"Okay," Moonstar replied.
Zip's eyes bugged out.
Lara laughed again. "Come on everyone. I want some tea for this story."
Moonstar looked up at the stars as Lara began to tell Zip and Winston the incredible tale. The midnight unicorn was home. At long last, he was home again.

A/N: For those of you who made it to this chapter, congratz, you have officially reached the end. Any reviews will be much appreciated. Yes, we have come full circle and our cast is safe and sound. But as any frequent fantasy reader knows, the end is but the beginning of the adventure.
"Unicorns are in the world again. No sorrow will live in me with that joy-save one. And I thank you for that part, too. Farewell good magician. I will try to go home." (The Last Unicorn).
Sincerest regards, sunstarunicorn
P.S. If anyone is still puzzling out why Amelia couldn't be saved, it's because she didn't have any Narnian magic in her. Does this concept appear in Chronicles? Nope, it's just mine. And if you don't know how Alister got Narnian magic, well you need to go back and reread Moonstar's little plan.
