"So, what you're saying is that she, your older sister by eight years, still lives with you and your aging parents?"
"Yes."
"She doesn't help with bills or anything because she doesn't have a job, or even prospects to get one, even though she wails on and on about how she is trying if the subject is brought up?"
"Correct."
"She relies completely on the money from your parent's social security, and what hard-earned cash you bring into the home; and yet still begs for cash she can blow on herself for no reason?"
"Unfortunately yes."
"She refuses to lower her standards even a smidgen so that she can get a job at a place that might actually hire her?"
"Yep."
"She makes demands on what she wants bought for her, and then gets upset when it isn't exactly what she demanded to have, even if it the exact same thing just a different size or brand?"
"Right on the money so far."
"And then throws a big snit if anyone even mentions that she could do something to repay all the kindness she has been shown over the years while she's been freeloading, even if it's just chores around and about the house?"
"True down to the last detail." Johnny just sat back and stared at the girl across the table from him for a moment.
"Why don't you just kick her out? Or at least cut her off? I'm sure she'd get off her ass and do something if it was a choice between starving or working." The girl looked suddenly sad.
"Ah, but you see, she was the first-born. She's been catered to her whole life and treated like a princess because of it. If I refuse to carry her dead weight then my mother with do so behind my back." Covering one of the girls' hands with his own he gave a reassuring squeeze.
"Cheer up, your life could always be worse." He reasoned.
"How?"
"You could be dead." Her sudden laughter was not the response he expected.
"True. But sometimes it feels like that would be the better option." Giving a sigh she stood.
"Thanks for listening, but I have to go."
"No problem. See ya around, maybe?"
"I think I'd like that." Johnny watched her walk off.
As he stared after her he remembered his intention for first following her through the mall, and it hadn't been to get a drink at the food court and listen to her woes.
Looking about for a different victim, one that wouldn't make him feel so sympathetic that he'd let them live, he had a sudden thought.
Jumping from his chair he ran off through the crowds. He had a lazy and inconsiderate sister to find.
