The genin entered the testing room and looked around. Naruto noticed a silver haired teen being harassed by some foreign ninjas. Naruto quickly ran over to intervene.
"Hey! What's going on?" Naruto exclaimed.
"We're teaching this pathetic excuse for a ninja some manners. What's it to ya?" asked a male wearing a headgear forehead protector with a music note in the middle.
"He's a Leaf ninja. We stick together," said Naruto.
"Really now?" said a ninja covered in wrappings, "And what can you do
The bandaged one swung at Naruto, but the strike was blocked by a kunai, followed by a senbon that stopped just short of his neck. The ninja looked and saw Hinata holding back a metal gauntlet that was revealed on his arm with her kunai blocking it and Haku with her senbon at his neck.
"Like Naruto said," began Hinata.
"Leaf ninja stick together," finished Haku.
"Whatever," growled the bandaged one, "Kin, Zaku, let's go. Let's leave these kids to their business."
When the three foreign ninja had left, the white haired Leaf ninja got to his feet and placed some cracked glasses on his face.
"Thanks for the help," he said, "my name is Kabuto. I assume you're here to take the Chunin exams?"
"Of course," said Sakura as the rest of Teams 7 and 8 walked up.
"Well, as this is my seventh try to pass these exams, I'd like to pass on a warning: these exams are probably going to be the biggest challenge you've faced so far," said Kabuto, "but as a thank you for the help, I'll offer you an edge."
He pulled out a deck of blank cards.
"These are ninja info cards," said Kabuto, "I've collected info on the many testers and compiled them in these cards. If I pump my chakra into them, I can see the info."
"In that case," said Sasuke, "I'd like info on Gaara of the Sand and Rock Lee."
"I'd like some info on Naruto here," added Kiba.
"Alright then," said Kabuto as he pulled out three cards and placed them on the ground. His chakra pulsed and data appeared on the cards.
"First, Rock Lee: he's a year older than you guys and has completed 20 D ranked missions and 12 C ranked missions. His Taijutsu skills are impressive, but not much else is. His team is Neji Hyuuga and TenTen, with Might Guy as a sensei. Next, Gaara of the Desert: he's been on 8 C ranked missions and one B rank mission. Additionally, he has come back from every mission without a scratch. Not much else on him. Finally, Naruto Uzumaki Namikaze: he's been on 7 D rank missions and one C rank that was elevated to B rank. He uses a unique sword style and Justu that seem to be unique to the Namikaze clan that he is the head of," read Kabuto.
The genin were impressed at the depth of the information on the cards, but before they could comment on it, a man wearing a bandana with a leaf village forehead protector and a black coat walked in.
"Alright you lot," he said, "I'm Ibiki Morino, and I'll be the proctor of the first phase of the Chunin exams. Before we begin, know this: in this room, my word is law. If you want to pass, you will remember that. Now all of you will be given a number. That will be your assigned seat for this exam."
The numerous genin walked to the front, received a number and were each assigned a seat. Naruto happened to be lucky enough to be seated next to Hinata, but his luck failed when the test was handed out. It was the bane of his existence: a written exam
"Alright," said Ibiki, "here are the rules for the first phase of the Chunin exams. First, all testers will start with a total of ten points. This test has ten questions, each having a value of one point. Answer a question wrong and one point will be subtracted. Second, you will be judged based on your team's performance, meaning all of your scores will be totaled together in the end. Third, those caught cheating will lose two points per attempt. Finally, any tester that loses all of their points will fail…along with their team. You may begin."
'CRAP!' thought Naruto, 'I stink at these kind of tests! I hope Sakura and Sasuke will have enough points, but I have to try. I can't afford to cheat on this.'
xXsceneXx
As the test went on, it became clear to the trained eye that cheating was subtly, and not so subtly, going on. Sasuke had activated his Sharingan to copy the movements of a student in front of him, Gaara had made an eye of sand to spy around, Kiba used Akamaru to read other tests, Shino did the same with bugs, Neji used the Byakugan to see the other tests, and Ino used her clan's mind body switch Justu to copy Sakura's test.
Unfortunately, some of the ninja weren't able to cheat as discretely, which was proven when a genin had a kunai thrown into his test.
"Genin 17: Sato Tsukino. You lost your points. You fail," said Ibiki, "Genin 22: Kori Yukiko, Genin 11: Yoshida Nobuya, leave with your teammate."
The three Genin turned in their tests and were escorted out. After several more teams were eliminated, Ibiki stopped the testers.
"Alright," said Ibiki, "it's time for the tenth question of the exam, but first, some new rules."
This resulted in groans from the Genin, but were silenced by Ibiki's glare.
"First of all," said Ibiki, "this question is totally optional."
The students began to get excited, but Ibiki promptly brought them back to reality.
"But," he said, "if you choose not to answer the final question, you and your team, fail."
That stopped many of the Genin who wanted an easy way out.
"Secondly," continued Ibiki, "if you answer this question incorrectly, you will not only fail, but you will be barred from ever taking the exams again."
"What the hell?!" yelled a blond sand genin with a large fan, "There are loads of people who've taken the exams more than once!"
"Tough luck," said Ibiki, "they never had me as a proctor. So those of you who want to leave say so and turn in your tests."
Slowly but surely, the Genin lost their nerve and left the room. It looked like there would be a small crop of Chunin this year, but suddenly…
*BAM*
Naruto had slammed his hand onto the table, creating a spider web of cracks due to his strength, and glared defiantly at Ibiki.
"Cut the crap! I intend to become Hokage one day and no tenth question will scare me off! Even if I never become Chunin, I'll be the first Genin Hokage!" he declared.
Ibiki smirked, "Is there anything else?"
He looked around, 'Looks like the kid's outburst gave the rest of them the courage to continue. Guess there's only one thing left to do.'
Ibiki smirked, "All of you here…pass."
"What?" exclaimed Ino, "What about the tenth question?"
Ibiki laughed, "You all just answered it! In the future you may be given a mission where you have to obtain an important target from the middle of enemy's stronghold. You don't know how strong the enemies are and what defenses they have around the target. Do you simply decide to abandon the mission because it is too risky? No!"
Ibiki removed his bandana to reveal a multitude of scars on his head.
"To be a Chunin is to be able to put your life on the line for the village. Anyone who thought that they would take the safe way out and try again next year, doesn't deserve to be promoted," he finished.
"Then what was the point of the other nine questions?" asked Tenten.
"It was to test your skill at gathering intel," said Ibiki as he replaced his bandana, "information is a powerful ally in battle and if your enemy knows you are there, then the information might not be accurate. Several Chunin were placed among you to allow you to gain the correct information and the test questions were deliberately harder than anything a Genin would be able to answer. Those of you who were sloppy were eliminated."
Suddenly there was a crash as a large black object flew through the window. The object unraveled and was pinned to the blackboard by kunai to reveal an attractive woman with purple hair wearing a revealing outfit consisting of a miniskirt and a fishnet shirt with a tan coat to protect her modesty (though it was debatable if she actually had any).
"Alright maggots, I'm Anko Mitarashi and I'll be your proctor for the second phase of these exams," declared the woman as she stood in front of the banner she had pinned to the blackboard that read, 'Here Comes the Second Proctor Anko Mitarashi'.
"You're early," said Ibiki as he walked out from behind the banner.
Anko ignored him and looked around the room, "So many are still here? You're getting soft Ibiki."
*hmph* "Maybe this year's lot is better than usual," countered Ibiki.
"Whatever," said Anko, "by the time I'm done with them, their number will be reduced by half. Meet me at the entrance to Training ground 44, maggots."
With that, Anko vanished with the body-flicker jutsu and the students filed out of the room.
As Ibiki gathered up the test papers he paused when he saw one that stood out.
"Naruto Uzumaki-Namikaze," he said as he read the name of the tester that the form belonged to, "heh, I passed a kid who didn't answer a single question."
And the Chunin Exams begin. I wonder if any of you can guess what forms of Alchemy/Alkahestry Naruto taught to Hinata and Haku and help me figure out what he could teach to the other girls.
