Chapter Nine

Unlikely Help

Okay - So, maybe following Ashley didn't seem like a good idea anymore. Mainly because when Ashley finished dragging him around what appeared to be some town, they ended up in front of an old run down suburban home. It had a slanted slightly caved in roof. A door that hung off of one hinge and a few windows that were broken.

However, the inside of the house was a whole lot worse! Just from the site of the first room Kaz could see more shattered glass, a table that was turned over with only three legs, ripped up curtains and bed sheets and finally a picture frame that looked like someone tried to claw it to pieces. He shuddered to himself.

"Artie!?" Ashley called as she walked into another room. Kaz followed slightly behind as an awkward silence came over the place. "Artie!?" He heard Ashley call again.

Kaz stopped walking when he reached the room that Ashley had walked herself into. Deciding it was best, Kaz waited outside of the room by leaning against the side of front wall while he thought to himself. Inside, Ashley was telling Artie about the situation when Kaz snapped out of his own thoughts.

Ashley came out five minutes later.

"My brother said he doesn't know if he'd be able to help or not." Ashley explained as Kaz slightly frowned. "He'd have to see the watch." Ashley finished.

With that Kaz nodded and followed Ashley into the room for the first time. Inside, Kaz had instantly seen Ashley's brother Artie. Artie wasn't your typical 2015 kid.

No, he wasn't. His brown hair was a little more puffy and curly. He had brown eyes and tan skin. Artie was a little taller than Kaz and he was in jeans and a t-shirt.

"Is this the kid you just told me about?" Artie asked as Ashley nodded. Kaz wasn't sure if he liked the tone of Artie's voice. But he didn't get to make a full choice because his thoughts were interrupted. "Do you have the watch pieces?" Artie asked, well, more like demanded.

Nodding his head, Kaz reached into his shirt pocket and pulled out his hand and handed the pieces to Artie. When the pieces landed in his hands Artie sighed, pushed his pair of glasses up his noise (the one's Kaz was now just noticing) and laid them down on the desk in front of him only to look at them in a longing thought.

Silence followed the room as Kaz waited for Artie to make a confermination about the watch. However when Artie didn't speak up for more than five minutes Kaz decide to speak instead. "Do you think you can fix it?" Kaz asked with hope in his voice as Artie turned, sighed and frowned at Kaz.

"I'm not sure." Artie explained as Kaz frowned this time.

"What!?" Kaz asked with annoyance in his voice.

"I've never seen this kind of technology before." Artie explained. "After all, you're from a whole different decade. Technology like this isn't introduced to us yet." Artie finished explaining as turned back to the desk and began to rearrange the pieces to try and get an idea on where they'd go.

"Well do you think there could be a way that could help you fix it?" Kaz asked with interest.

"Possibly." Artie explained bluntly. "It's take me a while to find instructions, information, the date of the watch, what the watch was made to use for and so on."

Artie explained as Kaz frowned and groaned slightly.

"Then, what am I supposed to do until then!?" Kaz asked with a little annoyance as he crossed his arms and sat down on a nearby chair.

"I don't know, wait I guess." Artie stated back in annoyance.

"Fine." Kaz replied as he took a breath. "- And sorry for that. I've just been though a lot, and I just am in a huge problem right now." Kaz apologized, he felt bad.

"It's okay." Artie replied more calmly too. "I'll do the best I can. It's going to take me a long time, but don't worry I will do what it takes to get this watch fixed." Artie finished with an encouraged smile.

All Kaz do, was smile and nod back...

...

Indeed it took Artie a long time to work on the watch. So, until then Ashley took him around the town sneakily to show him how much everything has changed and what was really going on around him. After about two hours of walking and listening to Ashley, Kaz finally understood what was really happening. First the mortals of this time period had found out that superhero's and supervillains were real because Dr. Wrath had taken over when Ashley was just eight (she was sixteen now).

Then Kaz learned that her and her brother were the only living two members of her family left and have come together and joined an organization called The League of Hero's. (If this wasn't a real serious situation, Kaz would've have been amused by that). Finally though, he learned that everyone around them had either joined forces with Dr. Wrath to live, or have been killed on the spot. It was devastating, it really was. So when Ashley finished telling him everything, they had made it back.

"- And that Kaz, is truly what happened." Ashley finished as she pushed open the door to the inside of the building once more.

"Wow I -" Kaz stopped and took a deep breath. " - I'm sorry." Kaz finished with a frown.

Ashley shrugged.

"Not your fault."

Right then Kaz froze. Ashley didn't know it, but it was indeed Kaz's fault. Back in his own time period he had broken the Timeline Diamond and ruined everything. His life, her's and Artie's, Oliver's and so many others. Honestly though it never hit Kaz until now and when it did, it hit him like a ton of bricks. It hit him so hard that it made him want to actually cry and Kaz had to blink a lot just to keep the tears from falling. Sure it was silly to cry over something but he couldn't help it.

After all, he messed up everything! All those years of people telling him he was a screw up was true and now it sucked! Why? Why did this have to happen to him.

"Are you okay?" Ashley asked as she turned and noticed Kaz standing in one place looking upset. Kaz was brought out of his thoughts.

"Hu? Oh yeah! I'm fine, just uh - thinking." Kaz explained. It was odd, usually thinking always hurt his head and this time it wasn't. Should he be worried?

"Okay." Ashley replied with a slight smile. "Um, Artie said he wanted to see you. I think he's got your watch fixed." Ashley stated with excitement.

Something however told Kaz that she didn't seem too happy about it. Either way, he smiled back at her and walked over to the room where Artie was waiting for him.

Inside Kaz had found Artie where they had left him a few hours ago. Only this time instead of shattered watch pieces lying in front of him, a newly fixed watch was!

Kaz was surprised and amazed! It was like the watch had never even broke!

"You fixed it!?" Kaz asked with a smile as Artie nodded.

He watched as Artie spun in his chair, stood up and handed him the watch. Kaz took it with shaking hands and allowed his smile to turn into a confused expression. He was confused because this watch was a little different then the last one he had. Where were the dial buttons?

"Yes, I did." Artie explained with a grin before frowning. "However your watch was a little odd. It took me a while to figure out what type of watch it was, and when I found that out I was able to find out more about you." Artie finished as he crossed his arms and narrowed his eyes at Kaz.

"Me? Why did you need to know more about me?" Kaz asked with wonder and astonishment.

"Because, you had this watch for a reason and you had already told me you weren't from this time period right?" Artie asked as he stared at Kaz while raising an eyebrow as Kaz nodded slowly. "So, I did a little research...I contacted The League of Hero's (Which I now know that you know who I'm talking about) and asked if they knew a person named Kaz." Artie explained with a sigh. "They didn't. And then they asked me why I was asking them this and I told them why. I told them about you, about your situation and so on. They then did research and had indeed found some information on you from other sources." Artie continued as Kaz frowned.

"Like what? - "Kaz asked slowly in worry.

"Nothing much. Just that your name is Kaz Gordon; you're from the year 2015 and your one of the two Normos to work in Mighty Med as a doctor." Artie explained. "They also found out that your best friends with the other Normo Oliver Pyne, and future superhero Skylar Storm." Artie continued. "After that, they told me that I had to indeed help you and I agreed. I asked them what to do and how to fix the watch, luckily 90's Horace was able to help fix it through communication." Artie finished.

"Oh uh, thanks I guess." Kaz said as Artie nodded.

"It wasn't a problem, I just wish you would have told me all of this information yourself instead of me finding it out that way." Artie explained as he moved to the side and sat down in his chair again. " - However the one thing I understood what you didn't tell me was the Timeline Diamond." Artie said as Kaz looked at him in shock. "Yes, they figured that out too. And it's okay it happens, but now this time period makes sense." Artie said as he noticed Kaz frown. "But that was why I really wanted to help you fix that watch! So you could get to where you needed to fix time again! Yours, ours, and everyone else you might run into along the way! The future is indeed in your hands Kazimieras; don't be afraid to make your destiny happen." Artie finished with a smile on his face.

"Thank you -" Kaz whispered as Artie nodded. Then Kaz did the most unexpected thing ever...

He pulled Artie into a hug.

And surprisingly Artie hugged Kaz back.

So when the two pulled away, Kaz instantly looked down at the watch and back up at Artie.

"But one question remains - "Kaz explained as Artie eyed him with interest. " - How does this watch work?" Kaz asked with confusion as he held it up.

"Oh, that's easy!" Artie said as he walked over to Kaz and took the watch from his hands to show him. This watch indeed had the wrapped wrist holder. However for the main screen, it was squaresish and it had two small little pointers in it with three squares above the pointers. Under the thee squares and next to the pointers were numbers from one to twelve. Honestly to Kaz it looked just like a normal watch which was why it kind of confused him. "The three little squares you see are for three purposes, day, time, and year. Simple as that. The little hands point to the numbers you want to go into the squares and in order to that you use this little dial to spin the hands." Artie finished with a smile as Kaz nodded in understandment.

"Sounds simple." Kaz replied as he looked up at Artie only to realize that Ashley had now joined them. "Thank you, both, again so much for your help." Kaz said as the two siblings nodded. "You have no idea how nice it was to run into you in a situation like this. So far I felt so alone and lost, but you two gave me hope again and I thank you for that." Kaz finished as the two siblings smiled and looked at him. "I am going to miss both of you and not forget about you." Kaz stated bluntly.

"We'll miss you too Kaz." Ashley said as she pulled him into a hug like Kaz had done with Artie earlier. "Good Luck Kazimieras! Hope will be with you and so will fate! The hands of time are in your hands now and we know you'll find your way home! Go, be swift, just never forgot to not give up! Good luck again; I know you will be missed." Ashley finished with a smile once more as she pulled away from the hug stepping back to stand next to her brother once again.

Kaz looked down at his watch with a smile as well as he started to try and figure out how is new watch worked. After messing with the dials for a little while he finally got it sent to where he wanted to go. With one last look up at the siblings, he pushed the dial button in and watched as the familiar portal began to open under his feet. As the portal opened and got ready to suck him in, Kaz smiled at the siblings (who smiled back) and put his right arm up and waved goodbye before falling through. The last thing he saw before he fell was Ashley and Artie waving back sadly and happy at him...
