Karen changed out of her school uniform while Liv changed out of her Armani. When they came in to say goodbye to Fitz before heading out he smiled at the sight of them. Both in their skinny jeans, a sweater, a jacket and boots. The colours varied but their outfit was almost identical. Truth was it wasn't the first time. Liv and Karen had similar taste in clothes and owned similar basics in their wardrobe. They would get away with sharing if Liv wasn't so short in comparison to Karen's Grant inherited gene pool.

"We'll be home late," Liv said managing his expectations. He raised his eyebrows in amusement,

"I thought I'd take her to her first Kegger and those don't start still 10 at least." she teased poking her tongue out at him making Karen laugh.

"You're funny Sweetheart."

"I know. We're going to shop, have dinner and then meet Carly for a late movie and ice cream."

"Have fun."

"We will." they answered in unison giving him a kiss on the cheek before heading out.

Their mission was to find Karen the perfect prom dress, which they eventually did but not before a significant damage was done to Liv's card.

"Liv, he's going to kill us both for not using his card." Karen protested after Liv had paid for yet another piece of clothing for her.

"We will use his card to get your amazing prom dress and all that you need for it. I wanted to get these for you. You're my girl. Who else would I do this with and for?" Karen wrapped her arms around Liv with tears pooled in her eyes.

"Thank you."

"You're welcome honey.

Liv had bought a few things for Gerry, Teddy and Fitz. She picked up things for herself too. It was rare for her to have the time to just shop without a list of things she needed to get

"Liv you should totally get that dress. It looked amazing on you." Karen said as she dug into Liv's salad while Liv poked through hers.

"I don't need it."

"Liv, you're the first lady. You have an endless list of events you attend."

"I know but they always have designers come in for that. That dress is a date night dress with your Dad and I have a closet full of those already. As much as I may love it. It's an extravagance I don't really need. And these days a date with your Dad equates to a Teddy free night, in the small windows of both our demanding jobs."

Karen made a mental note to talk to her Dad before changing the subject to boys. While waiting for Carly, Liv and Karen went to grab a coffee.

"Hey Liv,"

"Yes Sweetheart,"

"Thank you for being there for Gerry, for me, for Teddy. For never wavering even when things weren't going well for you and Dad."

"Sweetheart, I love you guys. You don't need to thank me for that. We're family."

"As grateful as I am and as lost as I would be without you. I can't help but wonder why our own mother couldn't love us that way. What did we do to make her never care about us?"

"Honey, she cares."

"Not the way you do or Dad does."

"Maybe not quite the same but she cares nonetheless. How can she not? She has amazing kids." Liv knew that though placated Karen didn't believe her completely.

"Hey Grants, room for one more?" Carly greeted as she approached them. Liv and Karen stood to their feet and threw their arms around her.

"There's the love. Are we ready for back to back Grease lightening?"

"Absolutely," they replied enthusiastically. Grease 1 and 2 was playing at the Rialto at midnight and the three of them were all excited to watch it.

They were sitting at the back of an almost empty cinema surrounded by all of their detail who most were not impressed with their movie choice but who would argue with the First lady, and the First Daughter. The three of them has a great time. Liv and Carly managed to stay up for both movies and Karen got halfway through the second movie before falling into unconsciousness.

"It's nice to be outside the white walls." Liv stated softly. Carly glanced at her friend and gave her knee an affectionate pat.

"Thought we could all use a night of normalcy. well almost normal." She added with a chuckle. She and Fitz had been married for months and it was full steam ahead

She juggled her role as communications director and her growing responsibilities as First Lady. Not to mention running their day to days smoothly with three kids and now a husband who looks to her for support. She loved it and was thriving, but there were some days where she just needed a time out. Carly had suggested Grease Movie Marathon a little while ago and they had pencilled it in. With or without Karen she would have gone. Having Karen just made it G-rated. Knowing had it just been the two of them there would have been several bottles of wine between them and the chances of them making it to the Rialto would have been slim.

"It might be good for you to make sure you do it regularly. It's been a big change for you Liv. Your whole world has been turned upside down. You're allowed the grace period to get used to it."

"I know and Fitz has been really supportive and making sure that I'm not overwhelmed but I do crave nights like tonight where I can almost feel normal."

Truth was Liv couldn't get used to 24 hour detail. It made it bearable that for the most part it was Huck, but on the rare days that it wasn't she remained within her quarters for it was easier to be out of sight out of mind.

She and Carly talked throughout the rest of the movie only stopping to sing along with their favourite songs. The Rialto had emptied out after the first movie leaving just the three of them and their detail who were now spread out giving Carly and Liv privacy. Karen remained asleep beside Liv. They made the most of their down time and reluctantly parted when the movie finished.

After getting Karen tucked into her bed, she took a quick peak at Gerry and Teddy before tiptoeing into her own roo. Just as she was about to slip into the bathroom Fitz startled her,

"And what time do you call this young lady?" Liv turned and grinned at him,

"I'm sorry I missed curfew Dad..." Fitz stepped out of the bed to hug his wife hello.

"Hi Baby, did you have a good time?"

"I did. I missed you though."

"I missed you too."
