Chapter 9
Darcy was walking down the hallway, the next day, when she saw Bucky trying to make coffee.
"Good morning, sunshine!" She said brightly. He looked at her and smiled.
"How does this machine work?" He asked. Darcy walked over and began telling him how he should actually plug in the coffee maker. She had no idea why it was unplugged, but something told her that Bucky got confused with that particular wire.
"I lo-" Bucky stopped himself and she looked at him.
"You what?" She asked brightly. Come on, Bucky! Just say those three little words.
"I love this coffee." He said and smiled sheepishly as he took a sip. Her smile faltered and she looked at him kindly.
"Well, I have to get to work. See ya!" Darcy said and quickly walked away. Bucky mentally face-palmed himself. 'I love this coffee' Really Bucky? You can do better than that.
Darcy worked the whole day. She went to three useless meetings that involved Fury yelling at Stark, a strange blonde woman who kept staring at her throughout each of the meetings, and Clint dropping down from the ceilings and screaming 'Caw Caw'. She then made four coffee breaks for Jane because 'science is love, science is life', and then tripped over her own feet when she thought she saw Christian Bale walking down the street. Turns out that it was a hobo who kept mumbling 'forgive me, Rebecca'... Yeah, that really freaked Darcy out. But, everywhere she went, Darcy saw the same blonde woman following her. Maybe, the woman was just a SHIELD Agent checking up on her?!
As she walked back to her room, Bucky walked out of his front door.
"Hey, Bucky!" Darcy said. He smiled.
"Hey, how was work?" He asked.
"Long." She replied as she began putting her keys into her lock. He walked over and kissed her on the lips.
"Sorry, didn't mean to rush into that." Bucky mumbled against her lips.
"Fine by me!" She replied.
"I lo-" He stopped again and looked down at the ground. Bucky, for the love of god, you have Darcy pressed up against the door with your hand touching her waist! Just say it! He let go of her and walked away. She looked after him and just shook her head. She went back into her apartment and watched the Breakfast Club. Darcy assumed Bucky was training with Steve, so that meant she was finally alone to watch one of her favorite movies, and to cry over it without getting stared at.
'Don't you forget about me.' Darcy started singing with the movie, until her phone rang.
"Hello?" She asked.
"Hey, it's Bucky!" He replied.
"What's up, buckaroo?" She asked.
"Um, you see I wanted to make coffee for Tony, because I thought I could do it with his machine. It was only slightly different from the one in the common room... Well, what should I do if Stark sees that his coffee maker got... Broken?" He asked. She sighed.
"That's easy! Blame it on Clint." She replied.
"Thanks, Darcy. I lo-" he stopped himself. Jesus Christ on a bike, Bucky! Can you finish your sentence. "I love America." He said and hung up. Darcy sighed. Could he really not say 'I Love You?' Was it even
Love?
Darcy finished the movie and then began crawling into bed. Her phone beeped once... It was a message from Bucky. She smiled at the message and agreed to it.
''Hey Darcy, would you mind meeting me at the Common Room at noon? I have to tell you something and Tony totally believes it was Clint's fault.'
Time skip brought to you by AOU TV Spot number four. 'I'm fighting an Army of robots... And I have a bow and arrow'
Darcy woke up the next morning with a smile on her face. That smile was ruined by Jarvis.
"Excuse me, Miss Lewis?" Jarvis asked. She groaned and put the pillow on her head.
"What, Jarvis?" She said, though it was muffled.
"There is a Miss Barbra here to see you." Jarvis said. Barbra? Who the hell is Barbra? Darcy sat up and threw her robe on over her pj's. Her phone lied there on her dresser. She didn't even glance at it. She walked towards her front door and opened it. Standing there, was the blonde woman who had been following her around. She was dressed in a suit and carried a briefcase with her.
"Darcy Lewis?" The woman asked with an German accent.
"Yes, that's me." Darcy replied. The woman reached down into her briefcase and then slammed it on Darcy's head. Darcy fell to the ground. Barbra talked to the intercom in her ear.
"The package is secure. Prepare for immediate action." The woman said.
'Well done. Mr. Barnes will have no choice but to join us again. The world will be ours.' A mans voice said from the other side of the phone. Darcy looked up at the woman from the ground. The last thing she saw was the woman's fist colliding with her face.
Meanwhile, her phone buzzed once more.
'I think I love you.'
Bucky felt really uncomfortable about the text. Was it too early? Jeez, he had already blown it three times. This is what he gets for telling Tony that Clint broke his coffee maker.
"So, did she respond?" Clint asked. Clint was fine with taking the blame for the coffee maker. Tony could buy one with ease. But, Clint only asked that Bucky tell Darcy how he really felt about her. If not... Bucky was in trouble.
"No. She usually types fast, but something doesn't seem right." Bucky said.
"I'm sure she's fine. Probably jumping around her room screaming 'yes' Repeatedly.' Clint was partially right. Darcy was screaming, but they were screams for Bucky.
I bet I got you guys right in the feels. Love you all!
