Peeta and I round the corner of the alleyway. There is a pool of blood where the girl, who appears to be in her teens, sits clutching at her side whimpering in pain. I take the slightest and most carefullest move towards her but Peeta pulls me back around the corner so that I cannot see her anymore.
"What are you doing, I'm going to help her" I say, a bit too loudly, frustrated at the sight of the helpless hurt girl that I had seen.
"Shh," he whispers "What if there's someone out there, we'll help her in a second, hold on."
Peeta, the one who always worries about my safety before his or anyone else's.
He tells me to stay where I am and not move or make any noise. He runs around to the backside of the building we are outside of. He checks to see that no one is there. I stay hidden, if someone were to walk by they would not be able to see me because of how dark it is. The only signs of light that I see are outside of some of the shops and buildings, and also from the houses nearby. It's quiet except for the low humming sound coming from the street lamps and the faint sound of music coming from the bar a few buildings down. I suspect that a drunk man did this. I just hope that the girl is okay. I have this sisterly instinct to go and help her.
"You can come out now it's clear," Peeta's voice echoed. I make my way out of my hiding place. Peeta is already there comforting the whimpering girl. "Oh my god," he says. I'm confused for a second, then I recognize her. Greasy Saes granddaughter Emma.
She's at the brink of fainting. Peeta has her head laid gently on his lap.
"We have to get her to the clinic!" I tell Peeta.
"I'll take her," he exclaims. "Go tell Sae what happened and bring her to the clinic."
I nod and Peeta picks Emma up.
Emma starts to cry and Peeta tells her that everything is going to be fine.
We go off in separate directions. I sprint towards Saes house.
I knock rapidly on Greasy Saes door. She opens the door and I almost trip through cause i was leaning on the door trying to catch my breath.
"It's Emma," I quickly say. "She's hurt"
She swiftly puts on a coat and shoes that were near the door.
"Where is she exactly?" She asks me all sorts of questions and I answer.
Anyone would be blind not to notice that Sae cares deeply about her only grandchild. Everyone in all of district 12 knows this to be true and they all adore Emma. Sae had a daughter once, the mother of Emma, her father had never been present. She had died during child birth, had only a couple precious minutes with her newborn daughter. I never knew her. Sae had told me the tragic story on one of the many days I traded at the Hob when i was younger. Sae raised Emma like her own daughter.
I told Sae about how we found her in the alleyway with a knife wound on her side. She asks me why she was out by herself at this time of night. I don't have an answer for her. She tells me that she was sleeping the night over at her friends house to finish a school project.
I contemplate what she had told me. "Do you think her friend did this?"
"No her family are good people, I could never imagine her doing anything like this." She says this with no sign of doubt running through her voice.
When we had gotten to the hospital I found Peeta sitting in the small waiting room. He had a worried look on his face. He too adored Emma and obviously did not want to see her hurt.
Peeta tells us that the wound was deep but it didn't hit any tendons or blood vessels. They could not close the infection at the moment because it was very deep. They controlled the bleeding.
"She is on antibiotics and is sleeping right now." Peeta hugs Sae. "The doctors have told me that she will make a full recovery."
Sae smiles,"Thank you so much."
The three of us walk into Emma's room. We stay a while until Sae tells us that we should leave cause it was getting late. After her persisting we decide to make the journey home.
While walking home Peeta holds me tightly to his side and I do the same.
The outcome of the day has left me in total fear. I don't know what to think anymore. It is very rare here in District 12 for violence. I'm hoping it wasn't one of those gangs from the Capitol that Haymitch was telling us about. This talk about a rebelllion that is starting to brew between some of those people in the Capitol, I hope is not something that i have to completely worry about. I can't have this lying in my future with Peeta. I wanted to start fresh and now its seems as if the past has come to haunt me yet again. Paylor has to keep her promise, she has to. It may be hard having to control this but if this is a bigger problem then I think it is... well we are in for something big.
A/N: Thanks for reading! Hope you had a good holiday, have a great new years!
