Part 2: Broken Memories
Chapter 8: Monster
Screams. My mother's screech fills my ears. "Henry! It's not dying! Help me!"
I shot up out of bed, run to my bedroom door, and try to open it. It took several minutes for my vision to come to and adjust to my dimly lit room. With many attempts, I figured that something was on the other side blocking the door.
I wanted out now more than ever. I slammed my body against the door, small smoke puffs poured in through the cracks. I could feel my arm beginning to bruise up as I continue to throw my body at the door. When I finally made enough space, I squeezed through the small crack. While running down the hall, I look back to see that someone or something had pushed the living room recliner up against my door.
Soon, smoke fills my lungs. I search for clean air, my yellow t-shirt and blue striped pajama pants flapping around like a silent flag. I can feel the warmth in wooden floors against my feet. "Mom?" I croak out from my spurts of coughs. I look up to see the black smoke began to stain the ceiling.
Shuffling and the shattering glass could be heard in the kitchen. "Lucy, I'm doing my best here!" answered a male voice. "It's not like I can tell it to stop moving, otherwise this would be easier!"
"Dad!" I pick up my pace and skid into the once green kitchen turned into shades from orange and red. Bright yellow flames danced across the counters and table.
"Emiora?" He looked frantically at he with his bright blue eyes that seemed to glow against the fire. His brown short quills now sprawled around and singed. He wore a red flannel long-sleeve shirt and dark blue jeans. He must have just came home from work because he was still in his brown leather work boots.
"Baby, get back in your room." Said a larger cream-colored hedgehog as she was fending off something with a can of hairspray and a lighter. She was beautiful like a model... even in this fiery abbeys of a kitchen. I got most of my good looks from her. The only traits I share with father is his curiosity and his bright blue eyes. "Emiora pl-" a large black blur jumped her. She screeched as a large blob embraced her.
"Mom!" I reach out to her, something warm yanked me back.
"Listen to your mother, get back to your room." My father said as pushed me back. He went to mother, pulling and tearing at this monster. It was something I never seen before, and I've seen everything imaginable... or at least I thought in this small bubble of a world I live in.
I turn to run back to my room, but I stop. What was the point? I had already pushed the barrier that kept me in. I turn back around to run out the front door. I reach out towards the hot door knob and jerk it open.
Outside was just as red as it was in the kitchen. What I thought would be bright blue sky was now filled with dark clouds. Many houses, as mine, were on fire. Screams, like mother's, filled the air. That and the smoke began to make my eyes swell. We were not the only family who had this problem. Large black sludge balls covered the village; On the roofs, breaking through windows, coming out of dark puddles.
My eyes fixed on one that creeped out of the ground. It puffed out in an odd fashion. Once out, it was similar to my hight. It reached out towards me, slinking its' way over to me. Startled, I stumble back, tears in my eyes. What are these things?!
I scramble to get up, my eyes never leaving the onyx sludge. I squirm around a bit as I try to go for my door, the black sludge still coming my way. "Go away!" I spat out of fear. "You monster!" I quickly turn to go back inside.
I could hear more shifting around in the house, more screams. The sludge grabbed my ankle, pulling me back. "Let go!" I screamed. The power of my voice projected out and hit the 'monster' sending it flying backwards. I had no time to think of what I just did, I needed my parents.
I go back inside, it eerily silent. "Mom? . . . Dad?" I dash for the kitchen. There they were... on the floor.
"Emiora!" the large man announced, waving his hand in front of her face. "Don't space out, It's time for us to go."
She wiped the tears in her eyes. It was him... It had to be him. She covered her eyes, rubbing them.
"Oh.." The Doctor turned to the nice wolf couple that took Emiora in. "Sorry for your troubles... Thank you so much-" Emiora hugged him. A small warm smile crossed his face as he patted her head. "Let's go."
