Chapter 8: Illusions Of Danger
The Facility:
As soon as the four Davenport siblings left the facility, Dr. Aris placed his hand on Dianica's shoulder. Dianica looked up, her face gloomy.
"Why don't normal people like me?" Dianica asked.
"Cheer up Dianica, I,Wolf, and his son all like you." Dr. Aris said. Dianica shook her head.
"None of you are normal." Dianica said her face deeply saddened before walking out of the lab. Dr. Aris looked up at Wolf glaring angrily.
"Why did you bring that boy down here?" Aris snarled.
"I had to keep up my image as a decent man. Besides you didn't really need me, you looked like you really reeled them in." Wolf said with a grin. Aris continued glaring.

That next morning Adam, Bree and Chase were far more silent than the day before. Even thou everyone was sure they had slept a full night their faces looked as though they haven't slept for days.
"Are you sure you kids are alright?" Tasha asked.
"We're fine!" Chase exclaimed. Tasha and everyone gave him a stern and concerned look, except for Adam and Bree who were minding their own business. At that Chase's eyes widened as he realized what he'd done.
"I- I mean… sorry." Chase said looking down shamefully.
"What was that?" Chasethought confused with himself. Tasha looked at Chase, whether or not her face was stern or concerned, no one could tell.
"Apology excepted." Tasha said. She turned to Donald. "Donald can we talk?" Donald nodded before getting up and they both headed down to the lab where none, especially Chase can't hear them.
"What's with you today?" Leo asked.
"You would know." Bree retorted. Leo looked at all of them.
"Guys, look I'm sorry. But if Davenport knew you guys were gone you guys would have gotten in loads of trouble. So I basically saved you guys." Leo claimed.
"You did it for yourself." Adam said. Leo looked to Adam.
"What?"
"If Mr. Davenport knew we were gone you would've gotten busted too for not watching out for us." Adam said.
"No! Guys, that's not true! …Wait what did they tell you while you guys were over there? Before we met them you guys never acted like this. I bet 'ya their corrupting you guys with some sort of mind control device to make us look like the bad guys." Leo said. None of the bionic teens said anything, a few of them just glared at Leo while another had their head turned away angrily. Leo looked at all of them.
"Fine! If that's how you guys really feel, why don't you go join them instead! Fall into a trap for all I care!" Leo exclaimed before leaving the kitchen counter and heading out of the living room.
Chase watched as Leo disappeared, as soon as he was sure Leo was out of sight and out of hearing range he pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket and turned to his siblings.

Tasha and Davenport were in the lab talking.
"I just don't see what the problem is?" Tasha asked.
"The problem is that we can't go visit them because we can't trust them." Donald said.
"Why don't you trust them?" Are you worried they're going to take the kids away? Why would they? They have Dianica, and from what I noticed she looks pretty powerful and intelligent."
"I can't trust them because… they told me so themselves. They want to offer the kids a position there and somehow, they managed to steel copies of my notes by an unknown resource." Tasha looked at Donald in shock.
"What? I understand Donald." Tasha sighed, "We can't trust them, people who are will to steal, especially information like yours are definitely capable of so much more. Shouldn't you at least try to get you information back from them, or destroy the copies they already have?"
For all I know they probably already have a billion copies stored in every computer it'll take forever to delete all of it." Donald said.
"We should probably call the FBI on them then." Tasha said walking over to the phone determinedly ready to call the FBI before Donald reached his hand out to grab her wrist. Tasha's hand was inches away from the phone. Donald was standing behind her with his arm extended beside her to grab his wife's wrist.
"Tasha, that won't do us any good. Like you said, they're capable of so much more, they're dangerous and if we turn them, for all we know they may reveal the existence of bionic humans to the world. We can't risk that." Tasha looked down and brought her arm down beside her and Donald let go of her. Tasha turned to him and asked, "So, what do we do?"
"The most we can do is hope they eventually disappear and leave us alone, if they're as decent as they appear to be, they're still a danger to us no matter what." Tasha sighed.
"Donald I don't want to think about those things anymore right now, let's talk about something else."
"Like what?" Donald asked.
"Tell me that story, you mentioned something at the carnival once, something about Chase. What was it." Tasha asked smiling. Donald smiled before walking over to lean against the lab counter with Tasha and began speaking.
"Okay, but you can't tell Chase." Davenport said, Tasha nodded smiling. "Well, it happened when he was six years old and there was a thunderstorm…"

Somewhere in Navada:
Prof. Crow was walking aimlessly throughout a grassy field in a national park following that signal that keeps leading him west. Prof. Crow was beginning to feel his legs give out and decided to lay on a small hill of grass to rest for a bit, placing his navigation device over his chest. His eyes followed the swift moving clouds above him as they brought shade and sunlight in a pattern as they freely flowed pass the sun.
"Dianica would love this sight," Prof. Crow spoke to himself, "she's always wanted to see real nature and bask in it in peace, not speed through it while on a mission."
"Whenever I give her the free option to choose a training simulation she always chooses large areas of land, like national parks." He shut his eyes, "If only I'd decided to give her a little more freedom, maybe she wouldn't have ran away." Crow thought.
…
As Dianica walked away from the lab with the simulation, she was no longer in her mission clothes, she was wearing a black jean jacket, black and yellow zigzag t-shirt, yellow with black striped elbow lengthened fingerless gloves, black and yellow studded belt and black skinny jeans and her rubber gold with black shoelace high tops. Dianica took a trip up the express elevator to SL (sublevel) 55. Up there is where she has her own virtual world, a place she liked to call, her realm of illusions, given to her for her fifteenth birthday, it was her first present ever, well, from what she believes she can remember, aside from a few Christmas presents she celebrated with her kidnapper. Dianica hopes to show her knew friends this place someday, if they decide to join. It was like the simulator only she has the ability to choose a specific area, or recreate a new one by scratch, her way, no interruptions. However if she decides to fully copy a real place she'll be shown real images of people in that specific location, only she wouldn't be able to speak with them, they would only phase right pass her. She exited the elevator and stepped into a darkened room were a blue virtual screen popped up, She pressed several buttons of the virtual screen and a large glowing black and neon colored lit subway train arrived and she stepped onto the large subway train that lead her to a more secluded area of the facility. The facility turns out to be much more expanded than it looks. The sublevels literally stretch out to other areas in the country, this particular sublevel however stretches out all the way beneath the state of Nevada. Dianica was standing up while holding onto a pole of the high speed train. Though there was no one inside she prefers to lean against the pole. Because the train was high speed it takes about ten minutes to reach the spot Dianica decided to stop at. Once the glowing train made a stop at an area that looks like an endless darkness, Dianica stepped out and looked around. She spread her arms out in front of her trying to create her virtual reality. There was a small spark in a distance as she commanded her electrical abilities to create her illusion inside the virtual realm.
A large national park filled with pine trees and grassy areas, large boulders, and a lake was created around her unfortunately the large train never lost its place in the illusion and was there as a marker to remind Dianica she is not in the real world.
Dianica began walking around exploring the national park as far away from the train as possible. She wanted everything to look, feel, and smell real. She felt and saw shade and sunlight fly pass her several times she looked up as she realized the current skies in this area of Nevada must have the clouds gently and swiftly gliding in the wind,
"Woah." Dianica said looking up, "I've never seen clouds move before, not this fast though." She leaned against a tree to watch the clouds for sveral moments before deciding to make a high leap onto a high tree branch and climb her way up the tall sycamore. She saw another tree nearby and jumped onto a nearby branch. She laughed as she started to do this several times. Her laughter echoed throughout the trees in her virtual world. She spotted virtual images of real people visiting the national park exploring just like her. She onto one final tree, a far off pine tree, she found herself losing her balance and gasped as she started falling from the high branch. She faced the ground as she fell it came closer and closer, until, SWOOSH! She shot back into the sky and flew around the large pine.
"WOOH HOO!" Dianica cheered laughing as she did so. She flew through the trees exploring every inch of them down to the nucleus. She came down as soon as making it to a large pond surrounded by small virtual hills. She walked and looked around enjoying the sight. A small family was walking around the park, a mother, a father, a daughter, and a son. They all looked so happy together. Dianica gave a fake smile, and waved saying, "Hello." They ignored her, she stretched an arm out and allowed the little girl to phase right through her. Dianica placed her arm back beside her and continued walking away from the family. She climbed a small hill and made it to the top before gliding down the other side. She giggled throughout the ride down. She stopped at the bottom and stood up, she caught her breath in agasp at the sight before her.
There was Prof. Crow, lying peacefully asleep in the grass, arms folded behind his head, and one of his navigation devises laying on his chest. Dianica didn't know whether or not to take a step forward or back. She found one of her feet taking a an inch forward.
XXXX
Prof. Crow startled awake as he heard his devise beeping louder than ever. He stood and saw that the tracking devise located Dianica to a nearby spot.
"Dianivca? You're here?"
XXXX
Dianica startled back as she saw Prof. Crow jump up awake. He looked down at his device and mouthed something. Dianica couldn't hear anything in the illusion, but she knew for a fact Crow was using his devise to track her down. She saw him cup one side of his mouth and shouted,
"Dianica! Dianica! Where are you?" She couldn't hear anything but she could read his lips clear as day. She stepped back in fear.
XXXX
"Dianica! Where are you! Prof Crow shouted into the distance. He looked down at his navigator again and it looked like Dianica was right under him. no more than ten feet away from him. He turned to the direction the navigator was directing him. He took a step forward, his face serious.
XXXX
Dianica took a step back as the illusion of Prof. Crow took a step forward, he appeared to be looking right at her.
"You're looking for me." Dianica looked up at the virtual sky then looked back at the virtual image of Prof. Crow, " So this is where this place leads… I'm right under you. fifty-fivce sub levels." Crow continued to take steps forwards. Dianica shook her head.
"I'm right under you and you're looking for me! That thing could detect me from all the way down here!" Dianica shouted in worry and she turned around and took off running. She shot up into the air and took off. She forced her self as she noticed Prof. Crow looked down at his navigation devise, surprised at how fast Dianica started to move. He took off running in her direction. Dianica made it to the glowing train and entered it, she glanced back, there was no sign of him. She entered it and the high speed train took off.
XXXX
Prof. Crow looked down and saw the tracer start jamming and blurring. Harsh sounds of static were heard from it as it started losing Dianica's signal.
"No!" Prof. Crow said. "She was right under me. How was she moving that fast…" Prof. Crow stopped as a sort of realization donned on him.
"How could I be so stupid." Crow said, "She could've been flying this whole time, and all this time I've been searching on the ground." He sighed. His attention was redirected back to his devise as it gave a loud, BING! His eyes widened as the navigation devise marked her in Mission Creek, California. Prof. Crow shook his head.
"I should've known." He said and took off for the nearest airport determined to finally find her.
XXXX
Dianica sat in a huddled position in the train beside her pole, not wanting to sit on the seats. Her face buried in her knees as she held them close to her chest.
"What does he want from me?He's looking for me, I have to tell Aris…"

A/N: Okay, this chapter was shorter than planned I would've made it longer. But I don't wanna keep you guys waiting again. For those of you guys who don't know the story Donald was telling Tasha, was a reference to my first story in this archive: "What Goes Bump-Bang-Boom In The Night. So if you wanna know that whole story you'll have to read it and review, that goes for this story too. Don't fear I'm already working on a ninth chapter, where you'll find out what Chase's slip of paper is, and SPOILER ALERT!
Ethan will be making a reappearance next chapter! :D
Thanks for reading!"
Sincerely,
*SS8*
