Muffled
One shouldn't talk when his or her mouth is full. But it's Natsu's way to tell something.
I do not own Fairy Tail.
- O – O – O – O – O -
"Dad grain ish butts."
Okay...
Dad was obviously that.
Maybe grain was actually Gray.
They were talking about him a while ago after all.
And butts could just be nuts.
"Goob ding bildats sobbed hiss ash."
That was probably something about the fight a while ago.
Natsu and Gray were having their usual fight in the guild and well, Gildarts got involved in the mess but why would an ass sob and cry?
Lucy sighed.
Well, she wasn't like someone intelligent to correctly interpret his words.
Plus this case was just 'ugghh...'
Whatever.
It wouldn't hurt to keep him company, eating in a restaurant.
Just with the fact that he should pay for the food.
A deal was a deal.
And Lucy would stay with it especially when money is concerned.
"Mushy, leddy aid your mood."
Lucy nodded, unsure of how and what to reply.
That didn't make any sense, particularly with the word mood.
Maybe she was just overthinking things, going to deeper matters when it could just be sim-
Lucy shrieked as she saw Natsu's hands over her plate.
"Why are you taking my food?!"
Natsu jumped, a little startled.
He swallowed his food and said, "I asked if I can eat your food and you nodded."
"What are you tal- oh..."
She didn't continue the argument, figuring out she wouldn't have anything sensible to say.
He was right, after all.
But that didn't mean he had to gobble up all- "MY FOOD! DON'T TAKE IT ALL!"
Lucy's eyes widened as he didn't stop. "What is wrong with you?!"
Natsu just stared at her with wide innocent eyes.
She would have been fooled if not for the laughing Exceed behind him.
She gave Happy the most intimidating glare she could make at the moment.
It gave the necessary result.
Happy shivered, which caused his hands to shake and take anything near him, particularly her food.
"AHHHHH!"
Both Lucy and Happy screamed at the same time, Happy in fear, Lucy in frustration.
"Just stop it! Let me eat it peace!"
"Lushy, me mand pood, do," Natsu pleaded.
"Me mand pish," Happy added.
"Food or fish, don't take it from me!" Lucy cried out.
Her two friends looked disappointed at her words.
But there was no way she was going to feel guilt.
"Lushy ish a min gull."
"Nashu ish a bib bubblemader," said Lucy in a bad imitation of their voices.
She had no trouble figuring out what they really meant a while ago.
For once, she talked back.
"Dad ish nod rue," Natsu objected.
"Id ish drew," Lucy slurred in an attempt to be the one to annoy someone.
"Lushy dond hab poob," said Natsu as he turned to Happy. "My dosh ze speat lite dad?"
Lucy found herself muttering a possible interpretation of what he just said. "I dond undershdand."
"That doesn't make sense," Happy finally spoke.
"I mo," Natsu said followed by a nod.
"Mew guize al a hobeles cashe."
Lucy didn't even bother reverting back to a straight voice.
It was then that Happy whispered something to Natsu's ear.
It went for a moment and Lucy was left staring.
"It's kind of rude to do that in front of another person," Lucy muttered.
"Mish jushd shomding boud a mishon," Natsu pointed out.
Lucy rolled her eyes. "Yeah, as if I could understand that."
"Lucy, Natsu meant something about a mission," Happy said.
Lucy tried to remember how he said it.
Perhaps Happy was right but by the way they had looked cautious when they whispered to each other… made her suspicious.
They were the kind of friends who liked to make pranks, after all.
Not just because she wouldn't want to make a mess in the restaurant, she just wouldn't want to be a victim.
"So, what is this mission are you two talking about?"
"Habby." Natsu turned to his cat. "Cand me jushd dell her?"
"No, you can't, Natsu! Proper tim-"
Based on what she heard, it seemed like Happy was the mastermind for the current case.
She smirked, having discovered that Natsu was really innocent.
'Really now?'
"Lucy," Natsu spoke, his mouth clear for once. "Did you know…"
"Did you know what?"
Natsu forked his food and he ate once again before eating. "Mushy, I my cue."
"What?"
"I my-"
"Why do you keep talking with your mouth full?"
"Mmm…" Natsu scratched the back of his head. "I hab shomding do dell mew… I my cue…"
"I my…" Lucy shook her head, failing to comprehend the meaning. "What is it?"
By then, Happy had forsaken every effort to stop Natsu.
Instead, the cat was now playfully nudging Natsu who mumbled a weak complain.
"Ish shard do shay id."
"Eat your food, then!" Lucy said, thinking that it was a perfect and sensible request.
Natsu continued chewing his food in a painfully slow manner.
"Ermm…"
When Lucy looked at Happy for support, the cat shrugged as if signalling for her to wait patiently.
For some reason, she felt she should wait for him to say whatever he had in mind.
Maybe he found it hard to say it straightforward.
Whatever it was, Lucy still had no idea about any possibilities.
"Come on, Natsu…" Happy mumbled.
Plus, whatever it was, it made Happy excited for some reason.
Why was Natsu the one who was speaking?
Wasn't it Happy who was the mastermind?
Things were getting confusing and Lucy couldn't focus on her food, quite ironic for she wanted food a while ago.
"I my cue match."
"Much," Lucy muttered, at the same time, realizing it was indeed part of the real meaning.
Natsu jumped, a little surprised but he nodded slowly.
Lucy frowned. "Natsu, just tell me."
Natsu finally swallowed his food.
Lucy watched his every action and was getting excited.
Finally, the mess would end.
"It's about food, Lucy."
"Yeah. But you've already bothered me. Tell me what is it," Lucy insisted.
She groaned. Maybe she sounded bossy or something like a meanie.
Fortunately, Natsu wasn't affected.
He was more focused on how to say his next words.
"I…"
Lucy was literally repeating the mysterious message over and over again in her head.
She just couldn't get any ideas.
Natsu sighed and muttered out the remaining words.
"I'll make you much."
He said it in a tone as if afraid that she wouldn't believe him, which was quite true.
"That can't be it."
"Ehh…" Natsu's eyes swam in their sockets as he stared somewhere behind Lucy. "It was supposed to be a surprise… that I'll make you food."
"Make me much?"
To Lucy, it sounded like nonsense but with the face Natsu was making,
"Err… Is it really that?" Lucy asked hesitantly and carefully.
Natsu still wasn't looking at her. "I guess. Happy kinda forced me to say it."
"Oh, Happy."
She almost forgot that the Exceed was present.
She looked at the flying cat and saw that he was also looking somewhere else, not at her.
Lucy didn't mind them, with the future of possibly edible food.
She didn't stop to think that if it was just about food, why were they acting like something else was hidden?
SORRY for teasing you.
To be continued (in the last chapter. =P)
