Chapter Eight It had been two days since they had arrived in Rapunzal's kingdom and Jack was starting to worry. Hiccup had been getting quieter and quieter. He reused to eat and every time he tried to sleep, he woke up panting and drenched in sweat. Not even Toothless could get through to him which was defenatly a bad sign. All of them had tried and failed pretty miserably to comfort him. Even Pascal had tried to make him laugh, but nothing had worked. "Hiccup?" Jack said, trying to make contact for the fifth time that hour. Hiccup, much to Jack's surprise turned his head slightly. Jack took a deep breath and walked to his friend's side. "I'm sure your friends and everyone else on Berk are fine." Jack said. Hiccup's forest green eyes stared straight ahead but Jack could tell that he was listening. "You're probably right." It took Jack a minute to realize that Hiccup was actually talking. "We had a safe place to go whenever we were threatened." Hiccup continued. "The cove where I found Toothless. That's where we hid the dragons whenever Dagger came, that's where we went when the Speed Stingers attacked," tears poured down Hiccup's face as he started to babble on and on about Berk, the dragons, his friends, and his family. "You know what?" Jack said, placing a hand on Hiccup's shoulder. "Once the King of Idiots stops chasing us, we'll go back to Berk and help them rebuild." Hiccup looked at him for the first time in days. Jack saw the dark shadows under his usually bright green eyes, and he winced at how pale the Viking boy had become. "Thanks Jack." He said quietly. He squeezed his eyes shut and it became obvious that he was exhausted. Jack put his arm around Hiccup's shoulders. "Come on." He said. "Let's get you inside, you need to sleep." Hiccup allowed Jack to guide him inside like a small child. Once Jack was sure that Hiccup was asleep, he went to find Merida. Rapunzal was already asleep so Merida was the only one he had to talk to. He found her carving in her bow again outside on the grass. "Hey." He said softly, sitting down next to her. "Hi." She said back without looking up. "Is Hiccup okay?" She questioned. "Yeah," Jack replied. "I finally got him to go to sleep." Merida smiled sadly. "It's incredible how stubborn he can be." She commented. "I mean, I have no idea how he seems so small yet he's really so..." She trailed off, searching for the right words. "Strong?" Jack supplied. Merida took his hand and gave it a friendly squeeze. "Exactly. You know, you're pretty strong to." He gave her a look. "Your home is the only one we haven't visited yet. That can't be easy on you." Jack looked up at the full moon, sadly, but fondly. Images flashed before his eyes. Tooth hugging him, North patting him on the back, Sandy making frantic sand designs like he always did when he was excited, Bunny hoping around playfully threatening him to stay out of the way. He thought about Jamie, his first believer, and Sophie, he thought about Baby Tooth. She must be missing him so much he felt like his heart would be torn in half. Suddenly a fiery image exploded before his eyes and he fell. He caught himself but the image didn't go away. Ships, houses, even cities were burning. People ran around screaming, trying desperately to put out the fires. Jack shut his eyes tight but it only made the vision worse. A mother held her wailing baby, they were trapped in a ring of fire. He saw Merida and Hiccup, trying to free Rapunzal from under a fallen wooden beam. He saw Toothless lying on his side with his fake tail fin on fire. He saw Pascal uselessly trying to help Rapunzal. A purple flag with a golden sun was aflame. And amongst it all. Jack saw the King. He was smiling cruelly and holding up something. It took Jack a minute to realize that it was his staff. Broken in two. The vision stopped suddenly and Jack crumpled to the ground. He could barely breathe and the horrible images had seared themselves into his mind. He cracked open his eyes and saw Merida kneeling over him. She had one hand under his head and was obviously trying to keep him awake. She was screaming for help but Jack couldn't hear her. Darkness threatened at the edges of his sight and the last thing he saw was the full moon. Smiling reassuringly down on him. Then everything went black. A/N: Hi guys!
