AN: Millions of years later and I finally got back to doing anything with this project. Anyway, Good Evening my Dusk-kin and welcome back to "What I Wouldn't Do For You". I promise this will be done...eventually. You probably don't care what's happening in my life, so let's just get back to the story. Hope you enjoy.
Chapter 9: Commencing Operation
All across the area, the residents of Mellowbrook slumbered, peacefully. Tucked up nice and warm between cover and blanket, all the sound that could be heard was the gentle intake and exhalation of breath and the gentle breeze that occasionally blew through. As the night continued, the people continued to sleep, free from all problems and tension, all...but one house. That house was the Perkins residence.
In this house, two people continued to sleep as calm as they could be. One was the girl, Kendall Perkins, sleeping nice and quietly in her bed or as much as she could sleep nice and quiet. After the previous day's events, it would be a surprise if she could even get a wink of sleep. Almost trapped and captured, she couldn't help but recall every single moment and feeling of fear throughout that period in time.
Every time she managed to close her eyes, the image of the park would welcome her back. Looking around, tall figures of men, clad completely in black, reached towards her with their abnormally long hands. Whenever that happened, Kendall tried to run away, but moved not one inch. She was running in place, worse yet, she was slowly being pulled back. Back, back into the hands of the abnormal men.
After that, she would jerk awake, breathing heavy and sweat dripping from her forehead. Never before had she been so scared in her life. If her saviour had arrived a minute too late, she wouldn't know where she would be now. She couldn't help but cry her eyes out, feelings of fear and loneliness consumed her. Thankfully, after a while, she finally cried herself into a deep sleep, putting a stop to her nightmares.
(Downstairs)
Sleeping on the couch was a man by the name of John, the saviour of the girl. After rescuing her from the incident, John personally would have to return Miss Kendall home, for she was in no condition to return back on her own. After that, she pleaded for him to stay with her, to keep her safe from harm. Reluctant at first, he ultimately agreed to spend the night with her. There he lay, now, not asleep nor awake.
Even though part of him was sleeping, his mind continued to reconsider his current state of ownership. For years, he tried to pay back a debt to a man who supposedly saved him from the ruin that he called 'his life'. During that time, he didn't really give much thought to it. All he ever did was not because someone ordered him to, but because that was the only thing he knew for real. Now, maybe he knew a lot more truth to this puzzle.
He sat up, giving up on getting to bed. 'Enough of these thoughts, I can't stand them anymore', the thought. He then began to pace the room back and forth, 'What more must I pay back for the years of servitude that I done. He is a dangerous man for sure, but he knows I am more dangerous than him'. After some thought, he searched for a piece of paper and a pen. Scribbling quickly, he placed the note on the desk and proceeded out the front door.
Walking down the road, he turned to look at the house one more time. "Sorry kid, I have other matters to attend too", he said, more to himself than Kendall. He then turned and continued down the driveway. Once he passed the gate, he continued down the road for some time, blocking out everything, lost in his own thoughts. His mind made up, no more servitude, no more paying back. After tonight, he would be a free man. With a clear thought and unwavering conviction, John proceeded to his employer to end his employment.
(Morning has broken, like a good morning)
Sunrays broke through the dark clouds of the night sky, ushering in a new morning. Conveniently, one of the rays happened to find its way through Kendall's balcony window. Even more convenient, the ray happened to have found its way and settled squarely on Kendall's eyes. Kendall attempted to continue napping, but to no avail. Ultimately, she arose from her bed, groggy of course because of the morning.
It took a bit for Kendall's brain to start processing its whereabouts. After it started functioning, she recalled yesterday's events, like they was burned directly into her retinas. Her body shuddered and sadness and fear became her expression. That feeling is something that she will never forget, one that resides in every human being, the terror of the unknown. It took a long time or what felt like it, for Kendall to get up from her bed and to take a shower.
After her shower, she went downstairs to go to the kitchen. As she was about to enter it, she suddenly remembered that John was sleeping on the couch. She turned to go wake him up, only to discover that he was not there any more. She wondered where he had gone, before noticing a note placed on the desk. Confused and a little scared, she picked up the note, opened it up and read the contents.
'By the time you read this, I'll be long gone. Sorry I couldn't stay until the morning, but I had urgent matters to attend too. I'm pretty sure you're tough enough to look after yourself. Don't worry about those men, they won't bother you again, I'll make sure of that. Anyway, see you around kid', signed, John. 'PS: Thanks for the bed, could have been a bit more comfortable though".
After reading the last part of the note, Kendall didn't know whether to get scared, angry, relieved or any other emotion that came to mind. Instead, she just stood there, registering what to feel. After a while, she just sighed, crumpled up the paper and threw it into the rubbish bin. "Didn't really think I could hide behind his back forever", Kendall said to herself. She then went to where she originally wanted to go, the kitchen.
Making a quick breakfast, that being eggs and toast, she quietly ate by herself in the kitchen. Just as she was about to take on last bite of her toast, a sudden thought occurred to her. Her parents were returning home today from their extended business trip. They will back by the time she's back from the fare...the fare! Today was the day, the day of the carnival. Her official second date with her boyfriend, Kick Buttowski.
Wow, two for one special, what more could you ask for. She was so happy that somehow she forgot all about her sorrow and woe. Finally, her day looking up for her, she continued to eat her food, then washed it up a placed it back into the kitchen cabinet. Looking then, she planned out the remaining minutes before she had to leave. Packing her bag, doing her hair, picking out her clothes, most of these she could have done the night before, but wasn't in the right sense of mind.
After all that, she quickly left the house, making sure to lock up before she left for school. If she hurried at a fast pace, she could make it on time. On the other hand, she could be much quicker if she just runs to school. The later idea suited her, so she started to run at a fast pace. Hopefully, the sooner she gets to school, the faster the day could go by and she could finally spend time with her parents and more importantly, spend time with Kick.
(Over to how Kick started his day)
Just like Kendall, Kick was rudely awakened by the unlucky placement of the sun's rays. Stubbornly at first, he twisted away from the light, hoping to fall back into dream land, but to no avail. Once your brain has woken up, soon the body will follow and that is the case for Kick Buttowski. Of course, he was not amused by his rude awakening, like most children who would prefer to stay in bed all day and do nothing. Only difference was, Kick would wake up eventually to do some stunts sooner or later.
Ultimately, he arose from his bed and sat on the edge, awaiting his brain to fully awaken. After a few minutes, his head started to work, so he arose from his bed and on to his feet. Slowly but surely, he approached his cabinet and pulled out one of his signature jumpsuits. Exiting his room, he grabbed a nearby towel and made his way to the bathroom. Lucky for him, no one was occupying it, so he didn't have to wait hours.
After a quick shower and brush and changing of clothes, Kick went downstairs to search for food. Surprisingly though, he failed to meet anyone else along the way. Study, Living Room, Kitchen, all places of the house were empty, no one else except him. Kick eventually just shrugged it off, not really thinking much about it, and went back in to the kitchen. As he was about to get something from the fridge, he noticed a small, yellow sticky note addressed to him from his mom.
'Kick, dear, your father had to leave early for work and I had to go shopping. We're nearly out of cereal, you see. Anyways, hope you good day at school, See you when you get back', love, mom. Kick wasn't really surprised about that, most of the time his parents would be out and about, leaving him to get ready for school. "Well, time for the usual combination of milk and cereal", he said, proceeding to the kitchen cabinet.
Picking out his favourite cereal, along with a bowl, spoon and milk, he placed them all on the table and readied his breakfast. After a few minutes, he placed the bowl and spoon into the sink and the cereal box and milk in their respective places. There was a clock in the kitchen, Kick inspected the time. At was nearly time for to go to school, the bus should come to pick him up in about half an hour. With that, he went to get his bag from his room.
As he grabbed it, a thought flashed through his head, reminding him of something important today. Something important that he couldn't put his finger on, so he decided to think about it later. All suited up and ready to go, Kick exited his house, locked up and was on his way to the bus stop. As he was approaching the bus stop, he spied a lone figure with a red cap standing there. Obviously, that was his best friend, Gunther, who always finds a way to get up before him.
"Morning, Gunther", Kick greeted. Gunther turned towards his friend, "Morning, Kick". They both bumped fists together and continued waiting for the bus. "How are you always here before me", Kick asked Gunther. "It's called skill my friend", Gunther bragged, "That and the fact that my parents blow the morning horn every day". Kick did sometimes hear a faint sound coming from somewhere when he woke up, but didn't really think much about it.
"Anyways, that's not important. So, you ready for your big date", Gunther asked, wiggling his eyebrows tauntingly. "What are you talking about", Kick asked, remembering that nagging feeling he had. Gunther slapped his forehead, "I should have known you would forget sooner or later". "Okay, you and Kendall have a date at the carnival tonight, remember" he reminded his friend who also finally remembered.
"Aw biscuits, I nearly forgot. Thanks for reminding me Gunther, you're a life saver", Kick thanked his friend. "Worry not, my friend. Happy to help in any way", Gunther said. After that, they continued chatting for a bit, until the bus finally arrived. Boarding the bus, Kick looked around for Kendall, who was surprisingly not around. "Huh, wonder where she is", he thought, following Gunther closely behind.
They eventually found a seat and Kick gave up looking for Kendall on the bus. Just as they sat down, Kick heard slow, shallow breathing next to his ear. Looking to his side, he was greeted by the face of his crazy 'number one fan', Wacky Jackie. "Hi, Kick", she greeted. Kick, shocked, jumped back and landed on Gunthers lap. "Jackie, do you mind not trying to scare me", Kick said, trying to control his breathing.
"Does it really matter, you take on stunts that would make any normal human shake in his boots", Jackie said. Kick would have argued back, but had to agree with her deduction. "So, what are you doing after school, any amazing stunts you got planned", she asked, every inch of her body shaking with anticipation. "No, not really", Kick answered. "What, that can't possibly be true", Jackie said, surprised.
"Come on, you must have something planned, anything", she asked, the expression on her face was expecting. Her expression fell short when Kick shook his head, "Sorry, nothing awesome planned today". Jackie snapped her fingers, disappointed, "Shoot, the one day I have all my gear to record your stunts and you decide to take the day off". Kick just shrugged, apologising again. "Don't worry about it, there's always next time", Jackie said.
"So, anything normal planned instead then" she asked. Kick was about to answer her, but stopped himself. If he told Jackie that he and Kendall were going to the carnival together, she would flip. Jackie and Kendall were never on good terms, so it was best to not tell her. That is, until Gunther blurted it out without any thought. "Kick and Kendall are going to the carnival tonight", he said, seconds later only realising his mistake.
Kick had a shocked expression on his face, not believing his friend just did that. Now, the girl behind them would make a big fuss on the bus, throughout the day of school, stalk them later tonight and that probably will not be the end of it. All because of Gunther, today was going to turn into a miserable day. Kick gave up and awaited the outburst that would bring countless stares from everyone on the bus. Surprisingly though, it never came.
Instead, came a question, "Really, do tell". Kick now looked at Jackie in disbelief, not expecting this kind of reaction from the girl. Gunther also had a surprised look on his face, also not expecting this kind of reaction. "What", Jackie asked, noticing the look on the two boys. "You're not annoyed that Kick and Kendall are going out...together", Gunther asked. "Nope, not really", Jackie said, nonchalantly.
Kick then placed his hand on Jackie's forehead, "You feeling all right today, Jackie", he asked. Jackie pushed his hand away, "I feel fine. The question is what's wrong with you". "Well, it's just that...um...you're usually kind of...weird towards any other girl with me", Kick explained. Jackie, understanding fully now, started laughing. Kick and Gunther gave each other confused expressions before turning toward the girl who was laughing.
Jackie, who had finished laughing, wiped a stray tear away, "Oh that was great, haven't had a laugh like that since dinner a few nights ago". She then looked at the two boys continually staring at her. "Alright look, I'm not crazy about Kick Buttowski anymore", she explained. Gunther and Kick mentally heard glass shattering, their minds not being able to fathom the information that was just told.
"Let me explain", Jackie said, "Sure, I wasn't really happy when I first heard it. In fact, I was completely annoyed". After the boys picked their jaws up from the floor, she continued her story, "When I saw you on the bus, sitting next to Kendall, I just thought there was no more room to sit. Then, when she gave you a peck on the cheek", she winked at Kick, causing Kick to blush, "I really wasn't happy".
"After that, in class, when you came through the door holding hands, I was completely depressed", Jackie seemed a bit sad telling that part. Kick felt sorry for her, partially understanding her disappointment. She continued her story, "I thought about it very hard, you and Kendall together. Then, I finally understood, that all I've done was stalk and obsess over you. That was getting me nowhere".
She looked at Kick with sadness in her eyes, adorned with a small smile, "I'm sorry for all the annoyance and trouble I've caused you". Kick felt sad, he didn't really think Jackie was a bad person. Gunther also felt sad, a story like that would make anyone sad. "Hey, don't worry about it, no harm done". Jackie felt happy about that, "Hey, do you think we can start over, as friends". Kick smiled and extended his hand, "Sure, sounds great". Jackie accepted the hand and they both shook, creating a new friendship.
Gunther was happy as well, everything patched up and a new friendship created. "So, you mind telling me how to enemies became close friends", Jackie asked, lengthening and playing with the word 'close'. Gunther, happy to oblige, told the tale how Kick explained it to him. By the time he was done, the bus had arrived at the school. "Really, who would have a thought a failed stunt could bring to people together", Jackie said, the trio exiting the bus together.
"I know, I was surprised as well when I found out", Gunther said. Kick, half-listening, looked around the area. Still no sign of Kendall, Kick was getting a bit worried. Never before had Kendall missed a day of school, not even when she was sick. Kick was brought back to reality when Gunther asked him a question. "Huh, what was that", Kick asked. "You okay, you seem kind of zoned out", Gunther asked.
"I'm fine. It's just that I haven't seen any sign of Kendall", Kick explained. Realisation came to Gunther and Jackie, neither of them had seen Kendall either. "Do you think she's sick", Gunther asked. Kick shook his head, "No way, she wouldn't miss a day of school, no matter what disease was flying through the air". "Maybe she's just running a bit late", Jackie suggested. Funny enough though, just as Kick was about to say something, he heard footsteps bounding towards him. Turning around, he saw Kendall running towards them.
Relief washed over Kick when he saw his girlfriend finally arriving. He stared at the girl, trying to catch her breath. Once she was breathing correctly, she looked at her little man. "You're a bit late for the bus, you know", he said. She chuckled, "I only realised that after the first few blocks". "What made you decide to exercise on the way", he asked. Kendall thought of a mean idea, she leaned low and whispered into Kicks ear, "I was really looking forward to seeing you". Kick couldn't help but go red in the face while Kendall chuckled at what she had caused.
Kendall walked away slowly, waiting for her boyfriend. Kick, after regaining his composure, ran after her. He soon caught up with her and continued on their way to class. Gunther and Jackie looked at the duo before looking at each other. Gunther then asked, "Oh magic genie of Mellowbrook, bestow upon me a delicious submarine sandwich for lunch period" Jackie laughed at his antics, "I cannot, young master, for I seem to have run out-of-pocket change". The both continued laughing all the way to class.
When they reached class, Kick, Kendall, Gunther and Jackie all found seats close to each other. Kick sat next to Kendall while Gunther and Jackie sat at the back of them. The classroom was full of chatter until the teacher entered. "Good morning, class", Miss Fitzpatrick greeted. The class greeted back, "I hope you all had a good morning because you're going to need all your energy for a group project.
The whole classroom groaned at the idea, "I know you don't like the idea, we could always make it an individual assignment". The class changed their minds, opting for the group project, "Much better, now get into groups of 4 and I'll explain what needs to be done". While everyone was frantically searching for their partners, Kick, Kendall, Gunther and Jackie had already found their partners.
"Group awesome", Kick suggested. Kendall nodded, Gunther gave two thumbs up and Jackie formed an 'o' with her index finger and thumb. When everyone had found their groups, the teacher inspected each group. Spotting Kick's group gave her a surprise, "My, what a group of characters, I never in my life would have thought that these 4 people would come together". "I was already surprised when you were sitting next to Miss Perkins, Mr. Buttowski, but this is even more surprising".
"Well, strange alliances are formed now and then", Kick said. "Indeed, are you sure you all can work together", she asked, eyeing all of them. The group gave firm head nods, "Very well then, I'll allow it. Now, for your assignment, I would like everyone to make a story", the class was confused, that did not seem like a difficult task. "Simple, yes, well let me make it a bit harder then. The story has to be as long as 20 pages, small letters and no copying from another story", now it seemed like a difficult task.
"Write it however you want, I don't care what genre it is, I don't care what how it ends", she added. At first, the students panicked, not knowing what to write or how to divide the work among them. Then, everyone calmed down and proceeded to divide the work and discuss on what they should write about. "The deadline is next week, before the last bell. Good luck, I look forward to seeing how you do", Miss Fitzpatrick said.
Kick and Kendall turned to face Gunther and Jackie, "So, any ideas", Kick asked. "Awesome and epic with explosions and gun fights and –", Gunther stopped, realising his friends were staring at him. "Love the enthusiasm, but let's go for 'simple, yet entertaining'", Kick said. "Action and Comedy", Jackie suggested. "That's one idea", Kick said, thinking. Kendall was the only one, beside Kick, who had not suggested something.
"Kendall, any suggestions", Kick asked. "Huh, what", she snapped out of her thoughts. "Any ideas on what to right about", Kick asked. Kendall shrugged, "Can't think of anything". A strange thought occurred to Kick, "Come to think of it, don't you like to write". Kendall was surprised to hear that because that was somewhat a little secret she did. "How do you know", she asked. Kick scratched the back of his head, embarrassed.
"Well, you remember that time you left your notebook behind in class", Kick said. "Yeah, so", then it hit her, he peeked into her private notes. "You looked in my book", she said, half-annoyed, half-disappointed. Kick raised his hands on defence, "Calm down, it was already open and I was going to give it to you, but I was just so tempted". Kendall would have strangled his little neck, but she came up with a better idea to get back at him.
"Alright, I forgive you", she said. "Really, you mean it", Kick asked, relieved. "But you owe me big time", she said, a sly grin spreading across her lips. Noticing that, Kick shuddered. "Now, let's get back to our story", Kendall said. "I don't feel like thinking anymore", Kick whispered. "What did you say", Kendall asked. "Nothing, nothing at all", Kick said. The group of friends put their heads together to think of something to write.
(Now, let's see what our mysterious friend is doing)
Outside a little coffee shop sat John with a steaming cup of coffee between his fingers. Normally, John wasn't a huge fan of coffee, but desperate times called for desperate measures. That being, he needed a way to stay awake, coffee was the answer. One last sip and his cup finished, placing it back on to its saucer. He got up from his seat, left payment for his drink under the cup and left, still pondering about his current predicament.
On one side was freedom from the grasp of his puppeteer, a chance to live his own life. But that comes with dangerous penalties. These were the type of men you did not trifle with, ones where an order is given, it would be carried out post-haste. He would condemn his own life to a living hell, but he would save another from that life. With that came the other, but less desiring, choice that he could make.
He would continue to work for someone who will enslave him for all eternity, never letting him taste the rich flavour of freedom. He would have to follow all orders and condemn many to a life of misery and despair. He would selfishly save his own life from that agony, but still, John felt as though he could not condemn that little girl to that kind of tragedy. Something with her sparked the small amount of humanity that was left inside of him.
For years, he had carried out any orders without a single cent of humanity or pity. He didn't care who it was or what they did, once an order has been place on their heads, it's only a matter of time before he comes to reap the soul. He was unsure of what to do, which path to take, freedom and pain or comfort and slavery. Now, after the girl, he has finally made up his mind on what course of action to take.
Luckily enough, he was at said place of interest, Knight Industries. He walked into the building, ready to fight for his freedom. Like always, the first floor was empty except for the few guards and secretary. John approached the secretary, "I'm here to see Mr. Knight". They secretary looked up from her work, "Do you have an appointment". "No, but I'm sure he would be glad to meet with me", John said.
"I'm sorry sir, but without an appointment, I can't let you pass through", she said. "Tell him that John would like to see him", John said, hoping that would help. The secretary picked up her phone and made a call to the higher levels. After a few minutes, she ended the call, "Mr. Knight will see you right away", she informed. "That's better, thank you for your help", John said, then walked over to the elevators.
Pushing the button for the highest floor, he rode the elevator all the way to the top. When the door opened, he was greeted by the familiar red carpet and lone desk outside the office. John approached the personal assistant, "Mr. Knight is expecting me", John informed. The woman looked at him, "Please go right ahead". John nodded his thanks and entered the office. Once inside, the assistant placed a call, "Hello, security".
John approached the large, mahogany desk at the end of the red carpet. The owner was on his chair, back towards John, apparently on the phone, "Yes, I understand. Of course, no need to worry, the job will be done soon. Yes, you can put your faith in me company. Alright, I'll talk to you soon", he ended the call. He turned to face John, "My, what an unexpected surprise. To what do I owe this pleasure", he asked.
John stared at his employer for a while, thinking of what to say. Lawrence noticed the tension and asked, "Is something the matter, your usually a bit more...enthusiastic". John stopped thinking, "Yeah, well, I've been thinking a lot". "Yes, and", Lawrence asked, waiting for John to elaborate. John just went out and said it, "I want out. No more jobs from you, I want my freedom". Lawrence stared at John, as if processing what he had just said.
With that, he shrugged his shoulders and said, "Fine, you are released from my employment". John did not expect this answer from him, something was amiss. "Just like that, you're going to let me go", John said, carefully. "Of course, you have been a loyal employee for years. Any and all jobs that came your way, you completed them perfectly", Lawrence explained. John was still sceptical about this, "And what about the job at hand".
"Oh don't worry about it, I can always have someone to take your place", Lawrence said. John couldn't believe what he was hearing, something smelled rotten. "All right then, I'll just leave", John said, slowly turning to go. "Yes, yes, be on your way. Enjoy your freedom", Lawrence ushered him. John slowly made his way to the door, "Just to let you know, I've met with that girl of yours", John stopped in his tracks.
"Quite a lovely woman, shame for something bad to happen to her", John turned quickly and marched back to the boss's desk. His hands grabbed the gruff of Lawrence's collar, pulling him closer, "What have you done with Evelynn", John asked, menacingly. "Nothing, as of yet", Lawrence answered, his voice ringing cold air. "Continue on this track and god only knows what will happen to her", he warned John, slapping away his hands.
"I knew it was too good to be true. Always one to play dirty, aren't you", John commented. "When it comes to making decisions, you always have to be one step ahead of the competition", Lawrence informed, straightening his suit. "She has nothing to do with this, let her go", John said. "Oh, I don't think so. Sure, she has nothing to do with this, but without her, there would be nothing holding you back from leaving", Lawrence informed.
"I will make a simple deal, you bring me the girl and I will free yours", Lawrence proposed. John wasn't looking the man, but his gaze was as cold as a blizzard. He should have known this man would have something planned and now he has pulled out his ace in the hole. Now, another difficult choice stood before John. Save one or the other, be one's saviour and the others downfall. Sadly, John didn't have much of a choice.
"I want to see her", John demanded. Lawrence pulled out a remote and pressed it, revealing a hidden flat-screen TV behind the bookcases. On the screen showed a girl walking back and forth in her cell. "She will be kept safe. Insubordination, however, will not be tolerated. Think carefully when making a decision", Lawrence warned. John turned to face Mr. Knight one last time, "You're a right arsehole, you know". Lawrence just smirked, "One that knows how to play the game".
"Yeah, what's to stop me from beating you up, you're whole organisation and saving the day", John said. "I'm pretty sure you know the answer to that", Lawrence said. John relented, nothing more to fight about, "You'll get the girl by tonight". Lawrence clapped his hands together, "Wonderful, I knew we would come to an agreement". Just then, guards armed with metal batons rushed in and surrounded John.
"Please, let my associates show you the way out", Lawrence said. John said nothing and allowed himself to be escorted out. Mr. Knight sat back down in his chair, "Oh, I so love when a plan goes accordingly".
(Okay, back with the kids)
Nothing special or outstanding happened during the previous text. They all racked their brains on trying to think of a story to write. After a while, they all agreed on adding a bit of their favourite genre. So, at some point, they will all come together and discuss how their story will play out. Finally, the last bell for today signalled the end of school. Once outside, they all said goodbye to each other and went their separate ways.
That is, before Kick and Kendall discussed about later tonight, "So, meet you at the entrance around 7.00", Kick suggested. "See you there", Kendall said, giving him a peck on the cheek for fun then departing. Kick and Gunther walked home together, talking about what to write and how to plan it all. "We'll worry about it tomorrow, just put some thought into it tonight and we'll discuss what we have", Kick said.
"Oh, that's right, you have bigger plans tonight, don't you", Gunther said, teasingly. Kick had grown accustomed to Gunther teasing him and now it had no effect. "Whatever man, at least I have something to do tonight", Kick said. "Hey, my parents are going out and leaving me alone, so I have myself some 'Gunther Time'", Gunther informed. "That being, sitting on the couch and watching TV", Kick said.
As they were approaching their homes, Kick and Gunther said goodbye to each other. Kick entered his house, "I'm home". "Hi honey, school go great", his mom asked. "It was fine. Say mom, you do know I'm not going to be here tonight, right", Kick asked. "Yes, I vaguely remember you mentioning that. Do you mind refreshing my memory", Honey asked. "I'm going to that carnival that just opened", Kick informed.
"Oh, I remember now, you and your little girlfriend are going there", she said. Kick blushed at that word, "Yes mom, Kendall and I are going there". "Oh, that is so wonderful", she disappeared after that and returned with her wallet, "Here's some money for the both of you, have a wonderful time". Kick accepted the money and gave his mom a hug, "Thanks mom, you're the best". "Anything for my little stuntman", she said.
Kick went upstairs to his room, wondering what to do to pass the time. He thought about the assignment, but decided to think about it later, no point worrying about something trivial. He wanted nothing to distract him from making tonight perfect for the both of them. After a while, he really couldn't think of anything to do. So, he decided to take a nap before the festivities begun.
(Skip ahead a few hours)
Kick woke up feeling groggy and out-of-place. He still recalled what he had left to do today, but didn't know what the time was. He glanced at the clock in his room, it was quarter to 7, he had...it was what! Kick sprung to his legs and quickly got himself ready, realising he was going to be late. Rushing downstairs, he passed his mom at the bottom, "Kick, I was just about to come get you". "Can't talk, going to be late, see you later, love you", Kick said quickly and out the door he was in a flash.
At the entrance to the carnival, stood a beautiful girl, wearing a blue dress that came below her knees, a pair of jeans and a small jacket, if it got cold. She had arrived 5 minutes early, now waiting for her boyfriend. Surprisingly though, she wasn't annoyed. He has been late, but he has always shown up.
At exactly 7 on the dot, she spotted a small figure quickly making his way toward her direction. When the figure was closer, she recognised the little jumpsuit wearing daredevil. "Sorry I'm late, I had a nap and-", he stopped and stared. What she was wearing was gorgeous and the moonlight only helped to make it better.
"Wow, you look amazing", Kick said. Kendall blushed at the compliment, "Thanks, it wasn't much, but I wanted to look nice". "Don't you always", Kick said, trying to be gentlemanly. Kendall giggled at his attempt, "Let's go, Casanova. You can compliment me some other time". Kick nodded and extended his elbow toward her, which she graciously accepted and in they went for a happy, fun time...or so they thought.
Right after they entered, a figure clad in black cargo trousers and jacket combination arrived at the entrance. His hood was up so no one would recognise him. At this specific location, he will make a choice that engages a series of events. Right now, he only had one thought, get the girl to save another. "Are you in position", a radio crackled. He answered it, "Affirmative, target has just entered the entry point". "Understood, inform us when operation is complete", the radio informed. "Understood, commencing operation", John discarded the radio into a nearby rubbish bin and entered the carnival.
AN: Prophesied was my return and return, I have, to bring this story further into fruition. It's been a long time, happy to be back and giving you all content again. I hope I haven't made you wait a long time and I hope you all enjoy this comeback. Also, I have a little challenge for everyone. During the beginning of this chapter, there's a certain sentence that mean something. It's the name of a song from a game. If any of you can find it, you get a free cookie (not really). But if you do find it however...screw that final boss, you will understand my pain. So anyways, thank you so much for reading. Stay tuned for more and I hope to see you again the next instalment.
May the night watch over you.
