[Humour-ish. It's a good thing Sam can fix everything.]

You will invent a method of making icosahedral ice cubes, today, which everyone will think are really cool.

Sam leaned over the equipment, grunting as she tightened a series of valves. Jack paced behind her, occasionally tossing a glance in her direction.

"Carter?" He finally gave in, barking impatiently.

Sam straightened up, wiping the back of her hand across her forehead. "I think that's got it, sir."

"You sure?" Jack maintained a skeptical air. "This is critical."

"I know, sir. I had to jury-rig some of the connections and replace the coolant."

"And it'll be stable?"

"Well... it should be, sir."

"Carter, we don't have any time for should be'. Hammond's going to be checking in any second."

"Then give him an all clear, sir." Sam nodded. "His mission is a go."

Jack clapped his hands, rubbing them together briskly. "That's what I like to hear."

Carter looked back at the equipment and then over to her CO. "Sir, this is only a temporary fix. Next time this goes down, it's not coming back up."

Jack nodded. "I know. We just need a couple hours. Just enough time to pull this off."

"Maybe the General...?"

"The General is counting on us to do this. Remember, this is for Daniel. If this doesn't work, then Daniel..."

There was a long silence as they both stared at the rumbling machinery uneasily.

"Yes, sir." Sam cleared her throat. "It'll work."

"That's the attitude." Jack looked around as the phone rang. He and Carter exchanged glances before he took a step sideways and answered it. Sam watched his back straighten as he recognised the voice on the other end. "Yes, sir. Everything's ready. Yes. Carter got it fixed." He paused, looking sideways at Carter. "I'll tell her, sir. Oh, and thank you for bringing the ice-cream cake. I know Daniel will love it. Birthday party starts at eight, sir, but you can come by anytime before that. The freezer should be good and cold soon."
