Chapter 9
Okay! I know this is beyond late, but I have been extremely busy. Sorry for the delay though, I will to update faster.
Enjoy this chapter…and no flames! Also by this time you must have realized that Annabeth is OOC, but I hope you continue to read on!
"You are late!" Piper said, as she narrowed her eyes at Percy and Annabeth who were walking towards her.
"Sorry," Annabeth replied, "we didn't realize it was this late." Though she was talking to Piper, her eyes were elsewhere; she was busy admiring the theatre. Every day she observed them from outside, wondering if they would be decorated with tapestries. This was like a dream come true for her.
"Ann…Annabeth, where is your attention? I asked you something." Piper demanded, to which Annabeth stared blankly at her. The last thing she remembered was Piper accusing them on being late. When had she asked her a question?
"Um, I am sorry, I wasn't paying attention. This theater is so beautiful; I was wondering how it would be from the inside. Is it possible for us to enter before the play starts?" Annabeth asked; she wanted to observe the interior before the play started.
Piper smiled, "Well, of course we can! We'll head in first and Percy…" Piper stopped mid-sentence, Percy was staring somewhere into the distance, as if searching for someone. He too, like Annabeth, was distracted due to some reason. Irritated, Piper smacked Percy's arm which made him jump in surprise.
"Have you gone mad?! What was that for?" Percy yelled; he had been searching for Rachel, who was nowhere to be seen. What if she arrived when they were inside the theater? How would he introduce her to Annabeth? Or was she already inside?
"That was for not paying attention. Annabeth and I are heading in first; she wants to see the interior. Who are you looking for?"
"Jason!" Percy half-yelled at her. Why was he getting so worked up? Why was he reacting this way? His own behavior was throwing him off.
Piper eyed him suspiciously; did she realize he was behaving weirdly? She didn't seem to believe him. "Well you don't need to fuss over it," She said pointing behind Percy, "There he is." With that she turned and walked away with Annabeth, not even glancing back.
"What was all that about?" Jason asked as he reached the spot where Percy was standing.
"Nothing," Percy answered, irritated, "you tell me why you are so late."
"I left early, but I met Rachel on the way. Her father had some work for her, so she wanted me to tell you she is not coming." Jason replied, at which Percy's face lit up.
"She's not? That's a relief." Percy regretted his choice of words the moment they left his mouth. Why did he never think before speaking?
Jason narrowed his eyes at Percy, "Care to tell me what's going on?" It didn't require the genius to tell something was not right. Percy had been avoiding Rachel for a month now. "Did you both have an argument?"
Percy mumbled something under his breath, which Jason interpreted as 'Annabeth'. He glanced at Percy with concern, wondering what exactly was going on in Percy's mind.
"Never mind that," Percy said, dismissing the topic, "let's head in; I don't want to miss the start."
Jason frowned as his friend walked into the theater; Percy was behaving weirdly, like a confused soul. Like someone falling in love for the first time.
Percy had chosen the seat besides Annabeth, who was already seated. The play was a boring romantic comedy, but Percy enjoyed those; they made him happy.
Two hours into the play, and the anti-climax was going on. The prince had discovered that the peasant girl he was in love with was a princess from some far away land. Percy smiled, and turned to look at Annabeth at his left; immediately taken aback. The anti-climax was going on, and Annabeth was yawning!
Percy continued to smile as he turned to look at the play again, Annabeth never ceased to amaze him.
The carriage ride home was even more awkward than the previous one. Irritated, Annabeth decided to initiate conversation. "Did you like the play?" Annabeth asked, making Percy's head snap in her direction with surprise.
Percy nodded, "It was nice. I love plays with happy endings."
"Oh…I don't." Annabeth replied, frowning a little. "I don't understand why people enjoy those sappy romances."
Percy smirked at this, "I know."
Annabeth raised her eyebrow at him, "And how exactly do you know that?" she demanded. As far as she remembered, she and Percy never had a conversation about what genre of plays they enjoyed.
Percy was smiling now, "I think if someone yawns during the anti-climax, it's safe to assume that they don't enjoy romantic comedies."
Annabeth's eyes grew wide in surprise. Why was Percy looking at her during the anti-climax?
Crap, Percy thought. He had to keep a check on what he said. Desperate to change the topic, he asked her another question. "What kind of stories you like anyways?"
Annabeth eyed him carefully; it was clear that he was changing the topic. She wanted to press further, but not knowing what to say, she ended up answering Percy's question."
"Historical."
"Oh…" Percy replied lamely, wondering why their conversations were always this awkward. He sighed as he turned to look out of the window, hoping the ride would end.
In a house not far away, a man smiled to himself. He was sure it was her who he saw at the theater, Annabeth Chase.
Sure, he had no proof that it was Annabeth, but her grey eyes and blond hair were difficult to forget. The man who was smiling earlier was now frowning, how was the girl alive, considering it was Annabeth Chase who he saw. He shook his head, dismissing the possibility that it was Annabeth Chase, there was no way the girl was alive.
Still, the man didn't deny it completely that she might be alive. He smiled again now; it didn't matter anyways. If she was alive, he would just make sure that wasn't the case for long.
Okay, so I'm going to be honest and say that I am NOT AT ALL happy with this chapter. I still hope you people don't hate it.
Now, I am sure you people are wondering- where the fuck is Rachel? But don't worry about her, I have something interesting planned. And as far as the updates are concerned, I cannot promise that they will be more frequent, but I WILL try.
