Chapter 7: Dusk vs Roxanne! Part 2

"Nosepass." The Rock type slowly murmured. Dusk could see Fiona was shuddering with anticipation.

"This is where you lose Dusk. There's no hope in beating Nosepass." Roxanne said confidently. "Even if it is, we won't go down without a fight! Fiona, Water Gun!" Fiona obeyed Dusk and fired the jet of water towards Nosepass.

"Zap Cannon." Roxanne grimaced. Dusk was filled with a sudden fear. She had completely forgotten it could learn that. A small spark began to grow in front of Nosepass's nose, forming into a large static ball.

"Fiona, get out of there, quick!" Dusk cried. But it was too late. The Zap Cannon collided with the Water Gun attack. But it didn't last for too long, Zap Cannon connected with Fiona's left flank, causing a huge explosion.

Dusk's heart was racing. She's badly hurt.. Dusk's thoughts whispered. When the thick smoke finally cleared, Fiona was lying down. She looked unconscious. Dusk felt tears making their way towards her eyes.

"Mudkip is unable to- huh?" The referee stopped and looked at Fiona once more. She was shakily standing up.

"Fiona.." The tears let loose. Roxanne looked equally surprised as the Ref.

"Dusk… you're Mudki- I mean, Fiona.. she still stands even though she knows she can't fight anymore.. your Pokemon truly loves you." Roxanne smiled.

Fiona looked back at Dusk, she was still shaking as she struggled to stand. Dusk could see determination in the little mud fish's eyes. They weren't done yet.

"Fiona! Use Whirlpool!" Fiona summoned a huge water vortex over her tiny body, doing what Dusk commanded.

"Nosepass, Zap Cannon once more!" Roxanne commanded. Zap Cannon wasn't an accurate move, but it couldn't miss a giant whirlpool. Both attacks collided, but Whirlpool's strength and size were too much for Zap Cannon. It blew out fast like a candle to water.

"Nosepass no!" Roxanne cried. Dusk grinned, knowing she had control over the battle now. Fiona hurled the gigantic whirlpool at the stone pokemon.

Nosepass was sent flying, it hit the wall so hard small cracks formed. Dusk had a feeling that wasn't enough, and she was right. Nosepass stood up slowly.

"My Nosepass has the ability Sturdy. Nosepass may be low on hit points and stamina but it can still fight!" Nosepass raised its stubby little arms as Roxanne spoke.

Fiona's pants seemed to be getting heavier. Dusk decided that was enough. "Fiona, come back. Bluebolt are you ready?" Fiona's eyes were filled with relief. She slumped down beside Dusk's foot and yawned.

Bluebolt nodded at Fiona and ran out to the rocky battle field. Bluebolt was on his fours, ready to battle again.

"Nosepass and I aren't going to make this easy. All of our pokemon are weak, so if one move connects, they will be down and out." Roxanne grinned. Dusk bit her lip, Roxanne was right.

"Give me your best novice!" Roxanne shouted. "Nosepass, Rock Tomb!" Bluebolt was frozen in shock. The boulders appeared from nowhere, two of the grey boulders had his tiny tail locked in between them. Bluebolt tried and tried, but he couldn't escape.

"Finish it with Stone Edge!" Roxnne ordered. Small sharp stones circled Nosepass. They kept growing in number, but they suddenly soared at Bluebolt. With a last effort, he tried to escape, but there was no hope.

Stone Edge connected. The boulders that trapped Bluebolt were destroyed in the assault and reduced to pebbles. Bluebolt fell backwards and didn't stand up once again.

"Bluebolt is unable to battle!" The ref cried. "Which means this round goes to Roxanne!" He waved a flag to her.

Her eyes glittered, happy she defeated a pokemon. "Seems the tide has changed Dusk. I will win this battle." Her emphasized 'will' made Dusk even more fired up.

"Fiona and I don't plan on loosing." Dusk grinned. Fiona ran out to the battle field more fired up than before. It almost looked like Fiona shook the weakness off.

"This will decide the battle Dusk. Lock On!" Roxanne shouted. Nosepass locked eyes with Fiona for not even a second and it didn't look away. Fiona looked at Dusk, awaiting an order.

"Zap Cannon!" The yellowish green ball of electricity was already at its nose. With Lock On, they can't dodge. It was all or nothing.

"Fiona, Take Down!" Dusk cried. Fiona's body shone a yellow colour before she began running. Dusk had a plan and if Fiona could take another Zap Cannon, they won.

Zap Cannon connected, but Fiona didn't stop moving. Roxanne gasped in surprise as she watched Nosepass get hit with Take Down. "Water Gun." The last move was called. Nosepass fell to the ground soaked and refused to get up.

"Nosepass is unable to battle, which means, Dusk wins!" The ref shouted, waving a flag at her.

Dusk's heart was racing. She won. She won her first badge. "We did it..." She looked out at Fiona who fell over. Dusk ran into the battle field and picked up Fiona and nuzzled her. "You're the best Fiona. I'm so proud of you."

"Hey Dusk. That was a fantastic battle. I called you and that boy to battle separately for a reason." She said. Dusk was curious to find out. She refused to let a number of people in but why?

"I could tell you were a beginner along with that boy, Noah was his name I think. I wanted to test you both out and see how you two would grow overtime. Based on your victories, you will both be fantastic trainers who care about their pokemon." Roxanne smiled and held out her hand. "I wish to battle again one day when you have gotten stronger." Dusk was so flustered. She had never gotten such a compliment before. Dusk grabbed her hand and gave it a firm shake. "I will Roxanne, thank you."

"You can get Noah and that young man. I saw him on TV when he tied with Champion Alder, he didn't need a trial from me." Roxanne smiled.

...

"Did you win?" Jay asked the second Dusk walked out. Dusk dove into her pocket and showed him the glistening badge. He smiled and nodded. "Congrats."

"Dusk won Servine!" Noah shouted, Servine cried out happily along with his trainer. They both stopped when Jay got closer to Dusk. "Fiona looks like she was tossed around. I'll tend to her and Bluebolt." Dusk smiled. "Thanks."

"Now it's your turn big bro." Noah tugged on his older brother's sleeve. Jay already had a super potion in his hand. "This will hurt Fiona, but the stinging means it's healing." He said before spraying Fiona.

Dusk watched the show enough to know that it stung a lot. Fiona coughed and wiggled around in Dusk's arms until he was done.

"There, much better now." Jay smiled. Fiona didn't look any better, but she was slowly healing. Dusk wanted to do the same for Bluebolt to, Fiona didn't win the battle alone.

Wait, should I tell them how I really ended up here? They wouldn't believe me! I have to keep my Pokemon game hidden…

Dusk followed Jay and Noah into the building when she escaped her thoughts, she was about to witness an incredible battle.

Bluebolt furiously tried to escape Dusk's coil, but it was no use. Dusk wished the Super potion didn't hurt, after a battle like that he didn't deserve it. Noah finished spraying Bluebolt and smiled. "Now you'll be all beter."

Dusk was amazed how she never noticed the resemblance between Jay and Noah before. Their smiles were almost identical, especially with the little dimples. She grinned to herself and started to think about how they both acted so different towards battling.

Dusks thoughts were erased by the sound of Roxanne walking out to the battle field. She inhaled and exhaled before she spoke. "So, Jay Walker." She grinned. "What does a trainer who has tied with two Champions want in this gym?" She asked.

Dusk waited for Jay's response. "Ever since I was ten, I have been traveling. I started in the Unova region, traveled to Kalos, Jhoto, Kanto, and Sinnoh, and now I'm here in Hoenn. I have vowed to become the best trainer that I could be on the day of my journey. Overtime, I met some amazing friends, rivals, and good Pokemon. I promised them all that I would come back with my name in the Hall of Fame in at least one of the regions.

Jay inhaled, taking a small break. After exhaling, he kept talking. "And like every Gym Leader, you stand in my path. I'm here to win your Gym badge Roxanne."

Roxanne nodded slowly. "I see, then as a Gym leader, I will do whatever it takes to keep this Gym badge here. You have come a long way Jay, you have fought many battles and many hardships, and you still stand in my Gym, fueled by the ones you love and their confidence in you." Roxanne smiled.

"Let's get started."

Jay reached for one of the pokeballs in his pocket, he threw it and called out a recent member to his team. "Let's do this, Treecko!"

Treecko was on his fours, gripping the rocky terrain. Treecko was indeed ready for this battle. Roxanne called out Geodude's name right after Treecko made his appearance.

Just minutes ago Dusk was battling that Geodude, and now it appeared to be in perfect condition. The ref explained the rules quickly and began the battle.

"Geodude, Rollout, quickly!" It obeyed, Curling up and rolling like a boulder towards Treecko.

Dusk had a feeling Jay might try to counter it, but then again, she only seen him battle once or twice.

"Dodge it!" He shouted. Treecko swiftly jumped out of the way, Geodude just kept going. Rollout got stronger the more the Pokemon used the move. Dusk wondered how Jay would deal with this.

"Use Dig." Jay ordered. Roxanne grinned as she watched Geodude get stuck in the hole that Treecko made.

She knew that was coming… Dusk thought.

"Energy Ball Treecko." Jay commanded. Treecko came up through the ground, in front of its mouth was a greenish blue ball forming. It was super effective, how was Roxanne gonna escape this one?

"If we go down, you're coming to, Geodude, Selfdestruct!" Roxanne cried. Geodude grabbed Treecko, its body was glowing a pure white colour.

Jay gasped. "Use Pound! Try to escape!" Treecko was too late, Geodude got a strong grip on its tail. Geodude self-destructed and both Pokemon went flying. The ref looked at both of the fainted Pokemon and rose both flags.

"This round is a tie, both Pokemon are unable to battle." Jay grabbed Treecko's pokeball and the red beam took Treecko back to a place it could rest. "I'm so sorry Treecko, I'll never let that happen again." He said.

"So, what will you do now Jay?" Roxanne asked. Dusk didn't know what he would do either. She only knew he had a Furfrou and Emolga, what else could Jay have with him?

"Alright Furfrou, let's win this battle!" He tossed another pokeball and out came Furfrou. Dusk was slightly disappointed that she didn't get to see any new Pokemon, but she wondered why he picked Furfrou, Normal types weren't very good against Rock types.

"Nosepass, I need your assistance!" And there was Nosepass again.

Maybe Jay wanted a speed advantage… but wouldn't he use another Pokemon for that? There has to be a reason why he picked Furfrou above the others.

"Furfrou, Cotton Guard!" Jay hollered. Furfrou surrounded itself with cotton balls, the clung on to its fur, raising its physical defense.

"Nosepass, Power Gem!" Nosepass hurled purple coloured gems towards Furfrou. Jay didn't tell Furfrou to dodge or anything. The white dog Pokemon took the hit and didn't even flinch.

"Go, use Attract!" Jay commanded. Little pink hearts circled around Furfrou for a bit before the glided to Nosepass, it couldn't escape the Attract from how slow it was. Nosepass fell in love and kept staring at Furfrou.

"Darn it… now what do I do?" Roxanne bit her lip. Jay smiled. "Iron Tail, hit its nose." Furfrou did as its trainer wanted, Nosepass skidded back a few feet, but it couldn't care less since it was still infatuated by Furfrou.

"Come on Nosepass, use Zap Cannon!" Roxanne cried. Nosepass heard its trainers call, the static ball was headed to Furfrou, Dusk was amazed that it wasn't attracted for a second turn. In her Sapphire version, Attract always seemed to immobilize her Pokemon.

"Double Team to dodge, and finish it up with Iron Tail!" Suddenly there were approximately seven or more different white dogs on the field. Zap Cannon destroyed one of them, but that wasn't about to stop Furfrou's attack. Its small tail glowed steel grey and it slapped Nosepass again, this time Nosepass fell over and didn't get up again.

"Nosepass is unable to battle! Which means, the victory goes to the challenger, Jay!" Dusk smiled and Noah cheered. Furfrou ran up to Jay and licked his hand.

Now we all have our first badge, this is so awesome… I want to stay here forever!

"Mr. Briney said that he would take us to Dewford because we saved Peeko. So we are covered." Jay said, closing the map in front of the small fireplace.

"That's good." Dusk yawned. "We have to prepare for Brawly, the Fighting type Gym leader…" Dusk wondered what she would do. She had no type advantage and no good moves to use against him. Maybe a little more training would do.

"Um… Dusk? Can I ask you something?" Noah has his hand raised. "Sure Noah, what is it?" She questioned.

"Where are you from exactly? Which region?" Jay was watching her now. They wanted an answer. An answer Dusk didn't want to share.

"Well… I can't say… it's kind of complicated." Dusk scratched the back of her neck nervously. Jay sat beside her.

"Dusk, we want the truth. We want to know why you were in that forest area all alone, why didn't you become a trainer at ten? Who are you Dusk?" He asked. His hazel eyes seemed so calm, but his tone sure didn't sound like it.

I guess I have no choice now.

"I'm Dusk Martha Fowler, and I'm not from this world." She admitted quickly. The only response for a while was the crackling of the fire.
