I don't own Digimon.
The dull thudding in the background seemed to come to a crescendo—the flurry of noise impossible to ignore. The barman looked disgustedly at the closet, with Tai and Sora swallowing their shots to follow his gaze. "Is that?" Sora asked, snorting.
Tai burst out laughing. "You sounded like a—!"
Sora thumped him playfully on the arm. "Behave! I haven't drunk like this since I was in university; it's not my fault!"
Tai grinned, passing her another shot glass of Sambuca. "It's time for us to make up for lost time then."
They both consumed the shots but Tai, feeling overly courageous, decided he would make sure he was the winner. In quick succession, he consumed the rest of the shots, one mouthful after another.
Sora gasped in shock and then smirked. "Like hell am I losing to you!" Reaching over the bar before the barman could stop her, she grabbed the nearest bottle and consumed it all without pausing for breath. As soon as she pulled the bottle away, she gasped and coughed.
"It only counts if you don't throw it up!" Tai teased.
The barman put his head into his hands as he thought of all the money that had just been guzzled away. "Why me?"
Sora wiped her mouth and slammed the bottle on the bar. Looking up with a broad grin, she said, "Game, set and match."
Tai kissed her softly on the lips, closing his eyes. As he pulled away, he whispered, "I love you."
Sora tapped him on the nose, crinkling her own as she winked. "You too."
As Sora opened her mouth to speak again, the banging started up again.
"Someone sure is a little trooper." Tai laughed, gesturing with his thumb over his shoulder.
"I think you two should go home. How about a Liberal Daiquiri for the road?" The barman had already begun mixing the drinks. He was hopeful that the bribery of alcohol would finally net him that elusive peace and sleep he had been yearning for.
Sora leaned over the bar, beckoning the barman. "Tai has a small wooohooo, y'know?" she hissed, slurring her words.
"Sora!" Tai exclaimed, seeming hurt by the comment.
Sora giggled, reaching for another bottle. "Well, it's true." She picked up the bottle of whisky, pulling the top off with her teeth and spitting it out. "Matt…" Looking up, almost longingly, she murmured, "Now there is a man."
Tai pulled the bottle from her and placed it back behind the bar. "Sora, you've had too much."
Sora stood up, snatching the Daiquiri from the sheepish barman as he came over. "It's over." She consumed the contents of the shiny glass and threw it at the barman, who only narrowly avoided it, while grabbing her bag. Sora walked past Tai quickly, mumbling under her breath as she walked out. Walking up to the door, she pushed it but stumbled, almost falling over. Pausing in the doorway, she brushed herself down, looked back, and then staggered away into the night.
The barman, seeing his chance, asked, "Aren't you going to go after her?"
"Nah, she was just a rebound." Tai drank the other glass, which had been sat on the wooden bar top, and then placed it back down. "But I think it's time to go find my car. My phone told me that they're in a takeaway place and I'm not sure if my car is too," he grumbled, walking off out of the bar.
Moaning, the barman took the glass and grabbed the sweeping brush. "I'm going to have to start charging before giving out drinks."
Chapter redone, I plan to do the rest over the coming months.
