Chapter Nine

Youngest Seeker of the Century

September 5th, 1991

Neville woke up and noticed Harry getting ready for something. Neville decided to get up and saw Harry looking at him with a smile on his face.

"Finally, you are up now. I was up for a while also Hermione and Ginny are already down in the common room." Harry joked.

"Ha-ha, very funny. It's not my fault I slept in; the homework and lessons wear me out!" smiled Neville, as he got dressed and put his cloak on as Harry was sitting on his bed and waiting for him, laughing.

"Come on, today is flying lessons, Neville!" said Harry as he left and walked down to the common room where the girls were waiting for them. They saw the twins come in from Quidditch practice with group of chasers.

"I'm telling you, Wood has gone mental!" said George.

"That he has, brother of mine." said Fred.

"What happened, Gred and Forge?" said Harry.

"Oliver Wood, our Gryffindor quidditch captain is freaking out because we are one player short on our team." said Fred

"Yeah, right. Nobody wants the seeker position since nasty accidents when playing against the Slytherins." said George.

"Yeah, our former seeker got so scared that he quit early in season." said Angelica as the other chasers nodded with her.

"You know what? I wish Harry was our seeker, Gred." sighed Fred, as he looked at Harry.

"Yea, Forge. I wish he was. The way that he kicked Charlie's arse –

"Language, Fred! George!" chimed Hermione, causing other people in the room to laugh as Hermione give the twins a stern look but failed in her scolding.

"—at small games at the Burrow was awesome but it is too bad that first years are not allowed to play for the team." said George, acting as if Hermione hadn't interrupted them.

"Yeah, too bad." said Fred.

"Yeah, we got to go. Flying lessons." said Ginny.

"Don't you and Harry already know how to get on a broom as you guys already played many times together?" asked both.

"We do but they don't." said Harry as he pointed to Hermione and Neville.

"I always wanted to try to get on a broom but gram won't let me." Neville said quietly.

"Don't fall or Madam Hooch will skin you alive!" cracked George as the twins left the common room to go to their dorm to change. That got Neville scared. "M-m-maybe I should stay here…"

Hermione was going to say something when Ginny beat her to it.

"No, George and Fred always love to mess with other people, especially Harry." said Ginny.

"Why him?" asked Hermione.

"Because the way we spend time together and the fact we never spend time apart together since we first met at our favorite secret spot."

"Aww, that sounds cute…"

"Yeah and the fact that Harry gave me this gold necklace that he made by himself and I haven't taken it off ever since." said Ginny as she pulled out the gold necklace and showed it to Hermione and Neville as Harry blushed red.

'You like it when I blush, don't you?' thought Harry

'Yes, paybacks for all the times you make me blush all the time.'

'You love it too, Gin-Gin!'

"Really?" said Neville "That's really nice."

"Nice? I love it! It shows that some guys are not clueless!" Hermione said causing the guys to chuckle as Ginny giggled.

"Come on. Let's go!" said Ginny as she grabbed and pulled Harry to through the portrait hole, running together as Hermione and Neville followed them. When they all made it to the flying training grounds they stopped and burst out laughing.

'I love holding your hand, Harry. Even for the brief moment from the common room to here.' said Ginny.

'Me too.' said Harry.

"Geez, you guys are fast." Hermione said as Neville panted behind them.

"Not our fault, the food here is fattening you guys up and Harry and I have been working out for a while in the mornings since we got here."

"It's true that I gained a little bit of weight lately." said Neville. "I might need to work out sometime with you two."

"Oi, Longbottom! You're too fat and lazy!" Malfoy shouted. His goons guffawed as Malfoy laughed causing Neville to get angry but said nothing.

"Back off, Malfoy. Nobody wants to talk to you, Ferret." Harry said as the gang laughed as Malfoy's face turned red.

"Nobody was talking to you, Scarhead!"

"Oh, really? You make it personal for me when you insult one of my friends. Unlike those dum-dums that seem like guard your ugly hairstyle."

"That's it, Potter!" said Malfoy as he pulled out his wand and pointed it towards Harry.

"That's 50 points from Slytherin and detention with Flitch for one week!" said Madam Hooch as she appeared behind Malfoy and his goons.

"You can't do that! He threatened me!"

"Yes, I can do it or do you want me take more points away from you? Plus you are lying!" stated Madam Hooch. Malfoy paled and shook his head. "Good then, let's start the flying lesson."

The two groups walked over to the rest of the students that were talking standing around a lot of brooms that were lying on the ground.

"Alright, listen up! Stand between those brooms. Put your right hand over your broom and say UP!"

"UP!" shouted the students. The results were funny as Neville's broom hit him in the nose as others only were able to get their brooms to hover a few inches off the ground. The few people that the brooms responded for were Harry, Ginny, Malfoy and Hermione. Hermione was surprised as she didn't think she would be able to get it right the first time but was happy nevertheless. Malfoy growled quietly at them. He didn't think that they would get it the first time. Eventually all of the students were able to get their brooms in their hands. Grabble and Goyle were the only ones that did have their brooms because the brooms refused to budge even after many minutes.

"Those who have their brooms, hop onto it. Those who don't have brooms, in their hand need to leave and come back next week."

The people who didn't have brooms in their hand, walked away except Grabble and Goyle just stood there like dumb gargoyles unaware that they were supposed to leave. Madam Hooch cleared her throat at them as to signal that they should leave right now or risk losing more points. Unfortunately, they didn't get it and caused Madam Hooch to get angry at their stupidity.

"GRABBLE! GOYLE! LEAVE NOW OR I'LL TAKE MORE POINTS FROM SLYTHERIN!" The results were that the goons scrambled and ran toward the castle as the other students laughed at their antics and Malfoy silently growled at the dismissal of his friends. Madam Hooch noticed Malfoy was on the wrong end of his broom.

"Malfoy! That's wrong end of the broom." scolded Madam Hooch.

"But I have been doing this since I was six!" exclaimed Malfoy.

"I don't care, that's the wrong end and that's it."

"Stay calm Neville." Hermione whispered. Neville nodded at her and started to relax.

"Alright, push your feet slowly… WEASLEY! What are you doing? Get down!" shouted Madam Hooch as Ginny started to slowly fly higher and higher in the air.

"I can't! It won't let me get down!" cried Ginny.

"Let me get my broom… Wait! Where is my broom?" asked Madam Hooch as she noticed her broom was missing so she pulled her wand out and turned but noticed Harry was in the air too.

"Potter! Get down!"

'I don't want to stay on the ground and wait for you to be rescued. I'm going to rescue you right now!'

'It's ok! Let her rescue me.'

'Bloody hell, I'm not going to wait for her!'

"Ginny, hang on, I'll rescues you!" cried Harry as Ginny was clinging onto her broom with a scared look.

"Hurry up, Harry!" whimpered Ginny.

"Hold on!" said Harry but as he got closer to her broom it shook her off and Ginny was falling to the ground. Harry pushed his broom into a hard dive and raced toward Ginny. He got to her with only 10 feet above the ground and grabbed her with his left hand.

"I got you, Gin-Gin!" said Harry

"Thank you!"

'But my arm feels so weird.' thought Ginny.

'I think its pain you are feeling from my arm, I think I pulled a muscle.' groaned Harry as he lowered his broom to the ground while the other students cheered as McGonagall appeared.

"Potter! Weasley! Follow me. Rolanda, come here. I need you to get…" said McGonagall to two students as she whispered something to Madam Hooch's ear when the teacher got closer to her.

"That's a weird request but I'll do it." said Madam Hooch to McGonagall, then turned and faced the rest of the students. "Class dismissed!" she also whisked her wand at the brooms and they flew off except the broom that Ginny had used. She would save it for later to investigate it.

McGonagall, Ginny and Harry walked into the castle and toward the hospital wing.

"Would one of you care to tell me what happened today?" asked McGonagall.

Harry and Ginny looked at each other then Harry decided to speak up.

"Her broom went out of control and she couldn't get down, she only flew up higher and higher."

"Well, I'm glad you both are okay but that was irresponsible for you Potter. I should deduct some points but I'm, instead, awarding you 20 points for saving your classmate." This statement caused Ginny to smile and Harry to be shocked.

When they got to the hospital wing, Madam Pomfrey was sitting in her office. When she saw McGonagall and the two students enter the wing, she got up and walked out of her office and walked toward them.

"Another accident during flying lessons again? I told you those brooms are not good and that they are too old. We need to replace those brooms soon!" scolded Madam Pomfrey.

"Listen, they are fine but I'll think you need to give Miss Weasley a calming draught and Mr. Potter a…" said McGonagall as she looked at Ginny then looked at Harry. Harry looked at her.

"I need something for this arm; I think I pulled muscle in my left arm." said Harry as he gingerly hold out his left arm toward the Matron.

"Ahh, sit down on that bed. Let me do the diagnostic spell on you." They did as Madam Pomfrey said the spell. What shocked the two grown-ups was that the spell showed that Harry and Ginny were sharing a bond. Harry and Ginny were shocked too; their secret was going to be out in the open. Eventually, McGonagall cleared her throat after sitting down in a nearby chair.

"It appears that you and Ginny are soul-bonded." said McGonagall.

"Yes, we knew it." said Harry.

"Since when?" asked Pomfrey.

"Since August 3rd." answered Ginny.

"Please don't tell anyone we want to keep it a secret, especially from Dumbledore and Snape." Harry begged with a hopeful look.

"Professor Dumbledore and Professor Snape." corrected McGonagall.

"Sorry but I'm not calling them Professors as they both tried to enter my mind twice on the first day here, madam. We don't trust them."

"WHAT?" cried McGonagall as she got up from the chair. "THAT SON OF…"

"Language!" scolded Pomfrey. "We will keep it secret away from them. I promise. I really don't like them."

"Really?" asked Ginny.

"Really." chimed Pomfrey.

"Excuse me, Professor?" asked a student that had just walked in.

The group turned their heads toward him and saw Oliver Wood standing at the entrance to the hospital wing with a curious expression on his face.

"Oh, Mr. Wood, have you found a replacement for Seeker, yet?"

"Nope, I had held a try-out. Nobody wanted the position."

"Well, no need to worry anymore! I have found you a Seeker!" exclaimed McGonagall as she pointed to Harry who smiled as if he had received his Christmas gifts early.
