Chapter 9
Emma rolled over to the side of the bed expecting her beautiful brunette to be sleeping next to her but she wasn't. Emma checked the time and it was 1am, she decided she needed to find Regina before she did something stupid. Emma climbed out of bed, walked downstairs into the kitchen to find it empty. Next on her list was the study and in there she found the woman she was searching for. She was led on the couch hugging an empty bottle of Jack Daniels.
Emma walked over to her sleeping beauty, kissed her forehead and took the bottle out of her arms. She rolled over and fell on the floor, Emma couldn't help but laugh even though she knew she wouldn't be amused. She opened one eye and gave her the Regina Mills death stare. "Emma why don't you stop laughing at me and help me up" she snapped.
Emma grabbed Regina's arm and pulled her up. "Did you really think getting drunk would solve anything baby?" she asked.
Emma knew now wasn't the best time to start a fight but she's not having her drinking herself into an oblivion. She looked at Emma then looked at the floor, Emma could tell she was feeling guilty.
"Regina I understand that your hurting baby but this is not going to help anything" she sighed.
Regina picked up the bottle of Jack Daniels and threw it against the wall just missing Emma's head.
"Emma how would you know how I'm feeling, you have never lost anyone close to you. I know my mother was a horrible person but she was still my mother so don't tell me how I should act and if I want to get drunk I fucking will" she spat.
"Regina. No I haven't ever lost anyone close to me because I've never had anyone close to me to lose. I never knew my mum or dad they chucked me away like I was rubbish and I bounced from one foster home to another up until I was 18. I've never had a real family until NOW, you and Henry are my family and nothing is ever going to change that. So you can abuse me, throw things at me or sit and get blind drunk but I'm NOT going anywhere" Emma sighed.
She collapsed to the floor and starting crying "Emma I'm so sorry please don't leave me. You know what alcohol does to me, I'm just trying to forget and this is the only way I can think of doing it" the brunette sobbed.
Emma looked at the love of her life, she was so broken and thought of the perfect way to help her forget for a while. "How about we go upstairs, have a bath together then cuddle back up in bed?" she asked.
"I suppose that would help me forget for a while." Regina smiled.
Emma grabbed hold of Regina's hand and led her upstairs. Emma pushed Regina on the bed and walked over to the bathroom and started to run a bath.
"Darling, can you come here please?"
Emma walked out of the bathroom to find Regina led on the bed completely naked. "Baby, what are you doing?" Emma questioned.
"I want you to make love to me." Regina smirked
"I know you are upset baby, but I'm not going to give in on my three date rule and let you bury your feelings with sex." Emma protested
"Would you rather me bury my feelings with alcohol or with sex?" Regina questioned.
"If I'm honest I would prefer you talk to me rather than bury your feelings with either of them." Emma answered
Emma stood up, walked into the bathroom and checked the temperature of the bath.
"Baby the bath is ready, come here." Emma called out softly.
Emma got undressed, stood in the bath and waited for Regina. After five minutes Regina still hadn't come to join Emma. Emma climbed out of the bath, walked into the bedroom to find Regina asleep. She decided not to wake her up so she walked over to Regina and pulled the blanket over her. Emma kissed Regina on the forehead then walked back to the bathroom. She climbed back into the bath and closed her eyes.
The bath started to go cold but Emma didn't have the energy to get out of it.
"No mother, I'm sorry I didn't mean it. Please don't hit me."
Emma jumped out of the bath, wrapped a towel around herself and ran into the bedroom. Regina was clearly having a nightmare. Emma walked over to the bed and sat next to Regina.
"Baby, can you wake up for me."
Regina rolled over and wiped the tears from her eyes. "Is everything Okay?" she asked.
"Yes everything is okay, you were just having a nightmare." Emma reassured.
"I'm sorry I feel asleep and we didn't get chance to have our bath."
Emma took the towel off and climbed into bed next to Regina. She leaned over, kissed Regina's bare shoulder and Regina nestled her head on Emma's boobs. "It's Okay babe, you've had a rough few days and we've got plenty of time to have a bath together."
"You're so understanding Emma; I don't know what I've done to deserve you."
Emma kissed the top of Regina's head and brushed her hair behind her ears. "It's what you do for the people you love. Can I ask you a question?"
"Well I really do appreciate it and of course you can darling."
"When do you want to tell Henry about us?" I asked
"Emma I got other things to worry about like the fact I need to plan my mother's funeral." she sighed.
"Well if it was me I wouldn't be planning a funeral I would chuck her on a fire and watch the bitch burn" she giggled.
"Emma that's not funny. And I think we should wait a while before we tell Henry. He is just getting his head around the fact that we are sort of friends I don't want to blind sight him with the fact that we are also fucking" she replied.
"Regina what do you mean that we are also fucking? We are more than fucking." I snapped.
"Emma I'm not arguing with you; I don't feel ready to tell Henry about us OK" she sighed.
Emma knew that Regina would get cold feet.
"Regina this is not an argument I asked a simple question and now I want the REAL reason why you don't want to tell Henry" she questioned.
She climbed out of the bed, grabbed her robe and walked into the bathroom before slamming the door.
"Regina you can't run away from me every time I ask a question. You are the Mayor and deal with much tougher questions than when can we tell OUR son that we are together" Emma snapped.
Emma was really starting to get pissed off, surly Henry would be happy that his mothers were in love.
"EXACTLY I AM THE MAYOR" she shouted.
"Regina why don't you come out of the bathroom and explain to me what that means."
Emma sat up and swung her legs to the edge of the bed. She opened the door, walked over to the bed and knelled in front of her. "I'm the Mayor Emma. So how do you think the people of StoryBrooke are going to feel when they find out the great Madame Mayor is fucking the Sheriff" she sighed.
"I wish you would stop saying that we are just fucking, we ARE in love Regina or have you forgotten that. You don't want to tell Henry all because you don't want the rest of the town to find out that you're happy?"
"No I don't want the town to find out I'm a dyke" she snapped.
"Regina are you fucking kidding me. You think anyone is going to care who you sleep with or who you are in love with whether it's a man or a woman" she sighed.
"Emma of course they will care and I can't have my reputation ruined by everyone finding out I'm shagging the towns Sheriff " she replied.
Emma stood up, grabbed her clothes and stormed off to the door.
"Regina so what you're really saying is your ashamed of ME. Well I'm going to go home and you call me when you have decided what's more important to you. your reputation or OUR relationship" Emma spat while slamming the door behind her.
Regina wasn't sure what the hell just happened. One minute she was cuddled up in bed with the love of her life and the next she's sat alone. The hurt on Emma's face was something that Regina never wanted to see again. She had no idea how the hell she was supposed to make this up to Emma. She couldn't believe she had told Emma that her reputation was more important than their relationship. The real reason she didn't want to tell Henry was because the moment Henry finds out is the moment it becomes real and that means she has more chance of screwing it up. Regina really needed some help and there was only one person who could help her with that.
Regina: Hey Ruby. Are you awake?
Ruby: I am now.
Regina: Sorry forget it.
Ruby: Regina it's fine I wasn't really sleeping I have something on my mind and couldn't sleep. I was going to ring Emma but I know she was over yours and didn't want to disturb her.
Regina: Well that's the thing I've screwed up big time and you are the only person I can talk to. Maybe you could come over and I could help you with your problem and you could help with mine.
Ruby: OK give me ten minutes and I will be over.
Regina was so glad that Ruby was awake and she knew that she shouldn't be complaining to Emma's best friend but she doesn't really have any friends expect Katherine but Katherine didn't know about her relationship with Emma. She climbed off her bed and chucked on one of Emma's t-shirts and a pair of shorts before grabbing her phone to text Emma.
Regina: Emma I'm so sorry. I didn't mean it.
Emma: Sorry isn't going to cut it this time Regina!
This week was turning out to be one of the worst weeks of her life. Her mother has passed away and the love of her life hates her. Her mother always said LOVE IS WEAKNESS but Regina didn't believe that to be 100% accurate. Finding someone you love and who loves you back is a wonderful, wonderful feeling. But finding a true soul mate is an even better feeling. A soul mate is someone who understands you like no other, loves you like no other, will be there for you forever, no matter what. They say that nothing lasts forever, but she was a firm believer in the fact that for some, love lives on even after we're gone. There was a knock at the door bringing her out of her thoughts, she walked downstairs and opened the door to find Ruby stood there in an outfit that she was sure belonged to Emma and happens to be one of her favourite outfits that the blonde owns. It was a tight pair of black skinny jeans which show off Emma's amazing arse, a purple checked shirt that shows just enough cleavage and a black leather jacket, it suited Ruby but didn't look nearly as good as it does on her beautiful blonde.
"Nice outfit Miss Lucas" she giggled.
Ruby looked up at her and then looked back to the floor
"Thanks Madame Mayor, please don't tell Emma I'm wearing another one of her outfits she will kill me" she replied.
"Call me Regina and I doubt I will be telling Emma anything let alone the fact that you are still stealing her clothes. Are you going to stand outside or are you actually going to come in?" she asked.
Regina felt really weird having Ruby stood on her porch and even weirder the fact that she was going to ask her for help. She walked through the door and smiled.
"Is it just me or does this feel very weird" she replied.
Regina walked towards the kitchen and Ruby followed her. She walked to the fridge and pulled out one of Emma's beers that she had put in there thinking she wouldn't notice. "Here I know it's pretty late or early whichever way you want to look at it but I hate drinking alone" she sighed.
Regina walked over to the dishwasher and pulled out her favourite wine glass and poured herself a big glass of red wine.
"So why don't you tell me what's wrong and then I will see how I can help." Ruby consoled
Ruby opened the beer with her teeth and chucked the lid in the bin. "Well I sort of have feelings for one of my friends and I don't want to ruin our friendship by trying to make it more" she sighed.
"Wait it's not Emma is it?" Regina asked.
"No blondes aren't really my type" she giggled.
She took a sip of her drink and seemed to be enjoying it a bit too much. Cheap beer really wasn't something Regina was accustomed to she remembered a time when Emma made her drink some and she couldn't get the taste out of her mouth for about a week.
"OK then if it isn't Emma who is it?" she asked.
Ruby downed the rest of her beer and walked to the fridge to grab another one. "Promise me you won't tell anyone because I haven't even told Emma yet. Well It's weird because I don't even know if I'm attracted to women but I am certainly attracted to this woman" Ruby admitted.
So Ruby had feelings for a woman in StoryBrooke Regina didn't even think there was that many homosexuals in StoryBrooke so who could she possibly have feelings for. "Ruby I was the straightest person ever and now look at me I'm in love with the most beautiful, big headed, annoying woman in the world. One thing I have learnt over time is love doesn't know gender." she replied.
"Wasn't you scared though?" Ruby questioned.
"Wasn't I scared about what?" Regina asked confused
"All of it. How did you find out you were attractive to Emma then well making a move on her? And the whole sex thing because it is obviously not the same as having sex with a man and how was it the first time you two had sex" Ruby rambled.
Regina didn't tend to share personal details but as Ruby was sharing things with her that nobody else knew she thought it was only fair.
"Right, Ruby if you ever repeat any of this I will make your death look like an accident. I didn't know I was attracted to Emma until the day of Henry's sports day and she did the assault course and she came out of the lake dripping wet. She had that ugly white t-shirt on and she was wearing a black bra, the top went see through from the water and well I lost my breath, I didn't even stay to watch Henry's last event because I was that embarrassed I ran home to try and figure out what it meant."
"Regina I won't tell another living soul" Ruby promised.
"So that is the answer to one of my questions, so now you have to answer the rest." Ruby smiled.
"Right OK. Making a move on Emma wasn't a problem because I wasn't blind and I could see how she looked at me and when I called her on it she got very uncomfortable. When it came to the sex part of it though it was pretty scary, I had never been with another woman and I was pretty sure I was going to screw it up but after the first time we had sex and I had Emma screaming my name, I knew I did a pretty good job. Don't get me wrong I always enjoyed sex with men and always found it did the job but it never made me feel the way I did when I first had sex with Emma. Before Emma I never experienced multiple orgasms" the brunette confessed.
Regina expected Ruby to look away or even blush but she didn't even flinch.
"Wow Regina I didn't expect you to say all of that but thank you for being honest. Well the person I have feelings for is Belle" Ruby mumbled.
Regina didn't expect that to be the person of Ruby's affections. "Belle as in the library girl?" she questioned
"Yes Regina. Belle the library girl. I look at her and my whole body aches to be close to her and when she talks to me I get lost in watching her lips that I don't even know what she is saying. She is very different to every other person in this town and besides Emma she really gets me. I think she might like me back because sometimes I catch her watching me working or staring at my arse while I'm bent down. I don't know what to do about it because she is a good friend of mine and I don't want to ruin it" Ruby rambled.
Regina walked over to Ruby and put her hands on her shoulder. "Well Ruby all I can say is tell her how you feel dear. You have nothing to lose the worst she can say is no then you can get on with your life and stay friends" Regina replied.
Regina really hoped that it worked out with Ruby and Belle because she is a lovely girl and with all the men she has slept with it's about time she got her happy ever after.
"Thanks Regina. Sorry you wanted me to come over to help you with your Emma problem and all we have done is discuss my problem" she mumbled.
Regina needed to pour herself another drink before she started pouring her heart out to Ruby. She grabbed the bottle of wine and topped up her glass.
"OK so here's the thing. Emma wanted to tell Henry about us and well I didn't and the argument got a bit out of hand."
Regina tried to hold in the tears but she couldn't. She never lets anyone see her emotions she just about lets Emma see me cry, it was a whole another ball game showing Emma's best friend that she was upset.
"Regina don't cry please. Tell me exactly what happened." She stood up and walked over to grab the box of tissues off the side and handed them to her.
"Thanks. OK so I told her what did she think the residents of StoryBrooke going to think about me fucking the sheriff" Regina sobbed.
"Regina did you actually use the word FUCKING?" Ruby gasped.
"Yes I did. Why do you both have a problem with that word?" she asked.
"Regina she is in love with you and from day one this has been more than fucking and when you say it's just fucking it hits her hard. I shouldn't be telling you this but Emma was in a rather abusive relationship and was pretty much treated like a sex slave. So she finds it hard to commit to sex so when she trusted you enough to sleep with you it was a very big deal." Ruby confessed.
Regina couldn't believe what she was hearing and she couldn't understand why Emma didn't tell her. Regina couldn't stop herself, she ran to the sink and was sick everywhere.
"Sorry Ruby. What do you mean an abusive relationship?" Regina growled.
"I have already said to much can we just forget about it and let her tell you when she's ready" Ruby pleaded.
"Yes I'm sure I can do that. Well anyway I told her that the people of StoryBrooke might not take too kindly that their great Madame Mayor is a dyke and she told me that I need to figure out what's more important my reputation or our relationship" she mumbled.
Regina couldn't stop thinking about what Ruby said about Emma being a sex slave. She knew she couldn't ask her because that would ruin her and Ruby's friendship so she needed to wait until Emma came to her.
"Regina nobody would bat an eyelid if you and Emma decided you wanted to be a couple I'm sure everyone would be happy about it and I know a certain little ten-year-old that would be very happy that his mothers are happy and well together. He's always wanted a family. You, Emma and Henry would make a perfect family. So this is going to sound harsh but get your head out of your arse and fight for your woman before you lose her for good" Ruby ordered.
Regina looked over at the clock and it was nearly 5am, they had been talking for nearly 4 hours. Regina really needed to get ready for work but the thought of her spending the day sat behind a desk when the love of her life hates her is pretty depressing.
"Ruby I really appreciate you coming over her to talk to me, I really hope it goes well with Belle and when you get the courage to speak to her I want all the details but I really need to grab an hour before I start my day" she sighed.
She walked over to Regina and pulled her into a hug. "Thanks Regina it means a lot to me you listening and helping me and yes when I make my move you will be the first to know. I better get going any ways I got to open Granny's in an hour" she replied.
"Oh Ruby you couldn't do me a favour could you, drop breakfast to Emma's about 7am for her and Henry please" she asked.
"Of course I can Regina" Ruby replied with a soft smile.
"Thanks Ruby you are a good friend"
She walked Ruby to the door and let her out before locking it and making her way upstairs. She decided to set her alarm for 8am it's only right that the Mayor gets a lie in once in a while. She set her alarm and undressed, she led down and let sleep take over.
