Chapter 9

January is finally over and now it's time for the love fest and fun. Not that Levy ever did anything real special that day. She usually spent July fourteenth like any normal day working at the library. Except for the gift chocolates and flowers she would revive from people, other then that it was pretty normal. Twelve more hours remained till her day was over. She didn't know why but she felt ready to go home.

Her day came slow, only a small amount of people came by the library. Everybody was either all lovey duvy with their partners, or at home crying their eyes out because they were heart broken on this day. A good handful of singles stayed at the library reading. It was more of a meet and greet, then a read and relax day.

The blue haired lady sat at her desk surfing the web to make time pass by. She ended up internet window shopping for cute shoes and dresses. So many clothes and items decorated with hearts were being sold on the net. She let out a sigh, 'I shouldn't be expecting much should I? I mean he doesn't look the romantic type...' She remembered the first time she had dinner with him. She shook her head, ' I don't know.' She had gotten flowers from Jet and Droy, like every year. Even after hearing the heart breaking news Jet received, he still talked to Levy as if nothing had happened.

She browsed the flowers section fawning over the different types of flower arrangements. At lest flowers from her boyfriend would be nice. She had barely seen him in days, and wondered if he was ok, but he never called her. She was mumbling to herself that she at least deserved a box of chocolates.

The blue haired lady was started by a loud dropping sound of books. There, in front of her were two large towers of the thickest books in the library, and a heart shaped box placed on top. The books were so tall to look over that she couldn't tell who it was. But somewhere deep down she just knew it was him. She parted the stack of books to see the mystery person behind this. Her face was serious when she met eyes with the heavy metal looking man.

"Gajeel are you honestly going to check all these out?" He stood there with one hand in his jacket pocket and the other hand by his side, with a smirk on his face.

"Nope, it was only for show. Geehee"

She took a deep sigh, "Gajeel..."

He rested his forearm on the stack of books, "Relax, relax, these are for you." He whips out a bouquet of flowers. She couldn't help but smile. They were beautiful, but he wasn't going to win her forgiveness so easily. She was about to open her mouth when Gajeel cut her off. "That box is also yours." She looked at the box that was sitting on her desk, 'oh cute chocolates from her lover.' She set aside the bouquet of flowers and chocolates. "No open it." She looked up at him in confusion, 'what's so good about chocolates.'

She lifted the lid, only to reveal a beautifully crafted necklace. She was lost for words. She picked up the necklace carefully from the box and admired its craftsmanship. Each bead was elegantly crafted. She could tell it was professionally made. She looked at the heart shaped pendant that was attached to the necklace. It had her name carved on it. She looked up at Gajeel, "this is beautiful! Thank you Gajeel." She said with the widest smile. Gajeel let out a small laugh and exposed a rare smile. "You got this specially made for me?"

"Something like that."

"Well it's lovely." She was going to place it back on the box when Gajeel stopped her.

"Let me put that on for you." He went around the desk and picked up the necklace and chained it around her. Levy sat there feeling like the most beautiful princess ever.

"Hey Gajeel why haven't I seen you in days?" She turns around in her chair to face him directly.

"That necklace comes a long way. "

"You mean over seas?"

"No I mean back home. My old man used to run a jewelry store when I was younger and I used to help him out with crafting stones and stuff. So I opened up his old shop to use his tools."

"Really. So you made this?" He gave her a nod. "What does he do now?" Gajeel went silent. Levy realized she step into delicate territory. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry for your lost."

"Na it's ok he's been long gone. So it doesn't matter now." He quickly changed the subject, "how about we grab something to eat." She looked up at the clock. 'Oh, right it's lunch time.'

"Ok sure"

Levy and Gajeel ended up eating lunch at a restaurant that Gajeel had made reservations at. Honestly Gajeel never really went far for any woman. But for her he'll do anything, he'll give her the world if he could.

After lunch they went for a quick walk. The sun was shining and there was a cool wind blowing. They walked side by side with arms linked together because Levy had grabbed his arm at some point and he didn't really mind the closeness. They were like a teenage couple, and he was like the shy girl that went with the flow.

They lost track of time and Levy had to go back, but she didn't feel like going back so soon, she wanted to stay. They headed back to the library, arms still linked together. Gajeel looked down at Levy who looked like she didn't want to let go of him any time soon. "Hey, why not after work we go to my place and hang with my cat. I think he misses you."

She looked up at him with a sparkle in her eyes, "sure!" He gave himself a mental high five.

Not so far away from the couple was a busty girl in a skintight black dress. She spotted the two lovers, whose arms were linked, across the street. She narrowed her eyes at the man standing next to the petit blue haired woman. 'So now he's acting like Prince Charming with some lady on valentines day.' She gave an evil smirk, 'well then let's make this the best day for her.'

She casually walked towards the couple as if she didn't know who the man was in the black attire. She walks past them and skims shoulders with Gajeel.

"Oh Gajeel long time no see!" She said in a fake surprised tone. He gives her a quick glance and continues walking with Levy. 'How rude.'

"Who's that?" asked Levy turning back to get a view of the woman.

"Ahh, a nobody."

The busty girl got irritated by his comment. She catches up to them and gets a hold of his other arm. "What do you mean nobody." They stopped walking. She flicks his nose "I should be someone special right?" she clings on to his arm and winks at the blue haired lady. Levy felt uneasy at the moment.

Gajeel takes his arm back from her grips. "I don't know who the hell you are, but you got me confused with someone else."

She devilishly smiled, "oh so you're trying to act cool in front of a girl who won't even last a week."

Levy just had to cut in, "just so you know it's been more than a week since I've been with him. I don't know who you are, or what relationship you have with him, but you're in our way. He obviously doesn't want anything to do with you. So bye." With her direct response she pulled Gajeel with her. She felt irritated some how, she didn't know why but she didn't want to be around her any longer.

"Ok I'll give you two a month then. We'll see how long you last. Oh and one last thing, she cupped her mouth to make herself louder. "He's a very great man if you know what I mean." She licked her lips and gave her a devilish smile. "It really is a pity."

Something about that comment really ticked the blue haired lady off.

Gajeel was surprised of the Levy's attitude. "Why in such a rush? I thought you didn't want to go back."

"I'm going to be late." She dragged her boyfriend by the arm.

"Oh bullshit. Not so fast." He stood still making Levy jerk back.

"What now?"

"Why are you upset?" It wasn't as if she wanted to be upset but she kind of didn't feel good at the moment. "Take a rest I'm sure your boss wouldn't mind."

"Well you know what as the owner the boss says not to leave the front desk unattended for too long." She turns heel and walks ahead.

Something about her tone of voice didn't settle with him. He grabbed her by the hand and pulled her towards him. Then quickly let go noticing he was too rough. He doesn't make eye contact but mutters a sorry. He looks up and toward the other side of the street. "If it's about...that woman just now... I'll tell you the whole story if you're still willing to come over my house. Isn't that how couples are? They trust each other and won't hide anything." He knew he had said something he would regret. There was still so much to learn from each other and trust is something so big a delicate. If she probably knew his dark past she would surely run away, or probably feel pity because of the reason he was acting that way. He really didn't want to risk that much, but he did. He swallowed hard at the thought.

Levy looked at him with pain in her eyes she knew anyone who came for the DSC held a past and was mostly an orphan. She wasn't mad at him she was just ticked off. She finally opened her mouth to say something, "fine I'll meet you at your house, don't you come picking me up." It was as if she seen through him. He averts his eyes away from her. "Plus if you're risking your life to tell me your story. I'll open up as well. By the way I trust you, I told you this before. You wouldn't harm me. Right?" She runs and gives him a tight hug around the waist. To him she felt so small and frail that he could pick her up and cradle her. She talked into his shirt, "just like a big teddy bear." He stiffly stood there not knowing what to do. "Thanks for the wonderful afternoon, I really enjoyed it." She let go if him, "well I really have to go, can't leave my library unattended." She waves an arm and skips off.

After work the blue haired lady headed directly to Gajeels house. It's been a while, as in a while, a few weeks since she went to his house. The streets were dark and quiet, not a soul lurking. She parked in the driveway and headed for the door. She was about to ring the doorbell when she heard pots and pans being dropped. "You damn cat!"

"Catch me if you can. Is that lady coming over? I'm surprised you got a hold of something so cute. She's so petite, I didn't know you liked those kinds of things." More things were getting knocked over and heavy running was heard. Levy just stood there not knowing what to do. Is there someone else visiting his home? She was frozen still with her arm in knocking position.

"Oh yeah I think your little guest is here." The loud footsteps stopped for a moment.

"Quit shitting me."

"No it's true I smelled her for a while now."

Gajeel wiped his head around towards the door and took a deep breath. There was no mistaking it, it was her. 'Why didn't I notice sooner. That damn cat.' He headed for the door and opened it and found the petite blue haired women frozen still at his door step. "Come in you'll freeze." She took a step in and Gajeel closed the door behind her.

"Sorry for the intrusion."

"Na, I asked you over."

"Um, is there someone else here?"

Gajeel opened and closed his mouth, "what are you talking about it's just us nobody else." He glared at the cat who was in the living room.

"But I heard..."

"Meow." Said the black cat.

She turned her head across the room. "Ohh."

"Well...you see..."

"Ignore this idiot who's lying to you again." Lily jumps down from the couch and toward the blue haired lady. "Just when he made a promise to be truthful to you, he hides things." Levy was fascinated by the talking cat in front of her. She had only read these sort of things in books.

She crouched down and picked of the cat sitting in front of her. "Your cute, and you talk too!" She walked into the living room carrying Lily and leaving Gajeel standing by the door alone. 'I swear that cat gets all the attention.'

"Talk more this is so cool."

"What do you want to hear? I have a lot of juicy stories to tell about your lover. Did you know..." Gajeel went into the kitchen to fix the mess. He had tried to prepare something to eat, but he wasn't really much of a cook. He knew simple dishes like potted chicken, rice, pasta, soup. But he just hoped it was good enough.

After fixing the kitchen he enters the living room with two glass of waters. "And Gajeel was being called a freak because of that."

"What nonsense is that cat saying?" He sets the glasses of water on the coffee table.

"He's just telling me your little adventures with him." She scratches the cat behind the ear, because he seemed to like it when she did.

"You hungry?"

"Oh yes."

He signaled her to come along. Levy hopped out of her chair and followed behind the heavy metal looking man.

Levy entered the kitchen and sat at the small little table. "Don't expect anything fancy," said Gajeel as he brought the food to the table. She nodded her head in response. There was salad, spaghetti, and dinner rolls.

"Mmm, smells good," she smiled up at him, and he smiled back

"Ahem! The food isn't going to serve its self." The small cat sat there on the chair patiently waiting.

"Oh he's eating with us too!"

"Uhh."

The three of them ended up eating dinner in Gajeels kitchen. It was oddly quiet because of the tension with Gajeel and Lily who hasn't done anything wrong. He just sat there at the table watching them.

After dinner they went back into his living room to talk like they said they would.

"Yeah my parents had died not so long ago. My father was all about business, my mother was too but she was less strict. I couldn't handle it anymore so I went to school a bit far away from home. Not to far to at least contact my parents. I had a bit of hatred in my heart and I couldn't let go of a grudge and it was horrible. When I least expected a tragic thing had happened one birthday. I felt like I couldn't forgive myself for for ever feeling a bit of hate over them, I cried for days." Levy finished her story. She was the one who had to break the ice. When they sat on the couch, Gajeel had just sat there opening and closing his mouth because he didn't know where to start.

"Well I only grew up with my dad, who knows where my mother went," Gajeel shook his head. Opposite from your life style I was neither poor or rich, just living a normal life. But after my father passed away I started to cause trouble and had the wrong friends during that time. And as I got older it only got worse till Juvia took me in, and I started calming down but I still got myself into stuff. Then I met people like Minerva, she really got me into some deep shit to deal with my stress?" Gajeel looks down at Levy

"Drugs?"

"A couple of times, its not like I liked it though," he lowers his head.

"I understand, you were just lead in the wrong direction by the wrong people. But you're not like that anymore, I believe you're different now."

He looks up at her, "I sometime feel like i'm going to go back to before."

"And if you do I'll be here for you no matter what. I wont let you slip that easily i'll be your support. So please depend on me." She grabs his hand and gives him a reassuring smile. He smiles back as if telling her ok. He was glad to had met someone like her.
