Chapter 9 – Fight till the End!

Saffron City Stadium

"Here we are my dear viewers, in the wonderful city of Saffron! We all know why we have gathered here… to watch the second Fighting PWC tournament! I thank Silph Co., who's HQ just happens to be in Saffron, for sponsoring this wonderful event" The female announcer said smiling. She was in the middle of the stage. Beside her was the president of Silph Co., the grand master of the Fighting Dojo and the mayor of Saffron city. All of them waved the large audience around them.

"What would you like to say at a moment like this, sir?" The announcer asked the president of Silph Co. and handed him a microphone.

"I'm very glad to see my tournament being held in my own city. I hope the PWC will make history" He said proudly. The announcer then handed the mayor a microphone.

"This tournament is just another sign for the infinite growth of Saffron city. I am proud to be its mayor!" The mayor said. He handed the grand master the microphone for him to speak.

"I assure you all that this tournament will be exciting for sure!" He said. The announcer then started to speak again, "I know all of you are waiting for the tournament to start. Without any more waiting, let's see the matchups for the first round" She said pointing at the huge screen above the stadium.

The screen showed eight groups with four battles in each. "As you can see, there will be 64 Trainers competing against each other in this tournament. They are split into eight groups. Each group will have four battles" The announcer explained. The screen then zoomed into each group and showed the match-ups more clearly.

Aki and Flame, who were in the Pokémon Center, watched the TV carefully to see Aki's opponent. When the screen showed the second group's match-ups, Aki saw his face. His battle was the first one in the second group. His first opponent was a young man.

"Look at that Flame, our battle is among the first ones to be held. We have to get ready quick. It will just be a matter for minutes before our battle begins!" Aki told Flame.

"I will explain the tournament's rules once again for the new competitors" The announcer said. The screen then changed to show a list of rules and regulations of the tournament. This was written on the screen:

PWC Fighting Tournament – Rules and Regulations

1. 64 Trainers can participate in the tournament.

2. All battles will be single battles with each side using a single Pokémon which should be a Fighting-type Pokémon.

3. Trainers have to register their selected Pokémon in the nearest Pokémon Center. They will have to use this Pokémon in all battles. Switching is not allowed.

4. If Trainers do not have a Fighting-type Pokémon, they can temporarily adopt a Pokémon from the Pokémon Center.

The announcer read the rules one by one. After that she said, "The stadium has four battle grounds. Four battles will be held simultaneously; one in each arena. The Trainers from the first four groups please get ready for their first round battles. Everyone, please leave the stadium. It will take about 45 minutes for the arenas to be ready. The battles will start in an hour". She then went to the backstage. The gallery quickly became empty in ten minutes. Several men came to the battlegrounds and started their work. They drew battlefields on the ground, one in each part. After half an hour's work, the arenas were ready.

Arena 1

One of the first battles of the Fighting tournament was being held in Arena 1. Out of the four arenas, this one had the most viewers in it. This was because a VIP who was participating in the battle.

On the battleground, a brown-skinned, middle-aged man was battling a girl in red karate gi. The man was battling with a Conkeldurr, while the girl had a Mienshao.

"Marshal! Marshal! Marshal!" Cheers arose from the gallery. Yes, the Unovian Elite Four member Marshal was battling in the arena. He too had entered the tournament. He was very muscular and so was his Conkeldurr. Conkeldurr had put down his concrete pillars on the ground and was standing unguarded.

"Mienshao, Drain Punch!" The girl called out. Mienshao's paws glowed white and she charged at Conkeldurr.

"Bulk Up!" Marshal said in a low voice. It was so low that only Conkeldurr heard it.

A red aura surrounded Conkeldurr and it flexed its muscles. Mienshao landed a direct punch on Conkeldurr's face. But Conkeldurr was not moved by the powerful hit. It simply brushed of the hit.

"Mienshao, Meditate!" The girl commanded. Mienshao took a few steps away from her opponent and sat down on the floor and started to meditate. While meditating, it heard a cry from its Trainer who said, "Mienshao… look out!" Mienshao opened her eyes to see Conkeldurr giving her an uppercut. The powerful blow threw her into the air. Conkeldurr then jumped up above her with the pillars in its hands and made another blow on Mienshao with its pillars. Mienshao fell to the ground with a lot of force. The fall created smoke in the battlefield.

When the smoke cleared, Conkeldurr was walking towards its Trainer and Mienshao was knocked out.

"Mienshao is unable to battle. Marshal is the winner!" The referee held the green flag towards Marshal. Cheers arose from the gallery once again.

Arena 2

"The battle between Akhil Palissery from Aspertia city in Unova and Kiyo from Cianwood city in Johto are about to begin! Are both sides ready?" The announcer asked. Aki and Flame nodded together. Aki's opponent was a young man in karate gi. He wore a black belt. He bowed before Aki and nodded to the announcer.

"Let the battle begin!" The referee said loudly.

"Sawk, I choose you!" Aki threw a Pokéball into the air. The Pokéball released Sawk and returned to Aki's hands.

"Hitmonlee, I need your assistance!" Kiyo also called out his Pokémon. It was a brown Pokémon with special, cream coloured limbs. Both Pokémon exchanged a bow and took fighting poses.

"Sawk, use Low Sweep!" Aki told his Pokémon. "Saaw…" Sawk said while charging at Hitmonlee.

"Hitmonlee, Blaze Kick!" Kiyo roared.

Before Sawk could hit him, Hitmonlee jumped up high in the air. The end of his right leg became surrounded in fire and it then landed a devastating kick on Sawk's left shoulder from above.

"SAAWWK!" Sawk fell down on the floor after the hit. "Sawk, oh no!" Aki cried out.

"Hitmonlee, Hi Jump Kick!" Kiyo ordered.

"Monlee…" Hitmonlee jumped up again and then came down with its knee glowing red. Just before it could hit him, Sawk moved to the side. Hitmonlee crashed into the ground and smoke filled the battlefield. When the smoke cleared, both Pokémon were standing with a lot of damage.

"Sawk, Bulk Up!" Aki commanded. The weak Sawk became surrounded in crimson aura and he flexed his muscles. He suddenly became healed of its damages and he came back into his fighting spirit.

"Be careful of its kicks, Sawk. You better keep a good distance" Aki told his Pokémon. Sawk took a few steps away from his opponent.

"That's not going to help you! Hitmonlee, use Mega Kick!" Kiyo told Hitmonlee in confidence.

Hitmonlee stood in his position and raised his right leg. His leg suddenly extended and kicked Sawk in his stomach. Sawk held his stomach and fell on to his knees.

"How is that possible?" Aki asked in awe.

"You have got to learn more about Pokémon, kid" Kiyo told his opponent. He then ordered Hitmonlee, "Use Hi Jump Kick!"

Hitmonlee once again jumped up and came down with his knee glowing red. Sawk did nothing but extend his arms. When Hitmonlee was about to strike, Sawk closed his arms and caught Hitmonlee's knee at right moment. Everyone except Aki was surprised by what Sawk did.

"Use Brick Break and then finish it off with Close Combat!" Aki ordered.

Sawk put Hitmonlee down on the ground and then quickly followed it up with a devastating punch to Hitmonlee's stomach which blew it to the air. Sawk then jumped up above Hitmonlee and attacked him with a barrage of punches with both of his arms. He then finished it off with a final punch which blew Hitmonlee down onto the ground again. Hitmonlee was knocked out the moment he landed. Sawk landed on the ground and let out a deep breath and bowed before his opponent.

"Hitmonlee is unable to battle and Sawk wins! And the winner of the battle is Akhil Palissery!" The referee declared. He held the green flag at Aki's side.

Aki ran to the battlefield and hugged Sawk. For the first time, Sawk showed his cheerful side by returning the hug. Flame too joined the hug. Meanwhile, Kiyo thanked and returned Hitmonlee to its Pokéball. He then shook hands with Aki and left the battlefield.

Arena 1

The first set of battles of the tournament had finished in all four arenas. Now it was time for the first battles from Groups 5 to 8. Speaking of which, the battle between Bruno of the Indigo League and a Blackbelt was already taking place.

"Machamp, use Vital Throw!" Bruno commanded.

Machamp took the opposing Primeape in his four arms and then threw it onto the ground with a lot of force. "Follow it up with Karate Chop!" Bruno commanded again. The Blackbelt's eyes widened. His Primeape was already out of energy. This attack would be too much for it. But he was too late to react. Machamp delivered a hard karate chop on Primeape who was instantly knocked out.

"Primeape is unable to battle and the winner is Machamp! So, the victory goes to Bruno of the Indigo League!" The referee held the green at Bruno's side. Bruno simply recalled his Machamp and waved at the audience before leaving the battlefield.

Arena 3

After the second set of battles finished, the third set had started. It featured second battles of Groups 1 to 4. The battle at Arena 3 was the most notable among them. The battle was between two Gym Leaders who were also a pair of teacher and student.

"The battle between Gym Leaders Chuck from the Cianwood city in Johto and Brawly from Dewford city in Hoenn is about to begin!" The announcer said. After making sure that the battlers were ready, the referee shouted, "Battle Begin!"

"Are you ready, Brawly?" Chuck asked, taking out his Pokéball. "It would be an honour to battle you, master" Brawly replied.

"Go, Poliwrath!/Hariyama!" The Gym Leaders shouted at the same time. Two Pokémon appeared on the battlefield. One was a blue Pokémon with a swirly feature on its belly. The other one was a much larger Pokémon with large fists.

"Wraath!/Yaama!" The Pokémon said at the same time. They intimidated each other with deadly glares.

"Hariyama, use Force Palm!" Brawly began the battle with his first command.

"Dodge it and use Dynamic Punch!" Chuck also commanded.

Hariyama's right fist glowed white for a second and it then tried crushing Poliwrath with it. But Poliwrath dodged it by jumping a step backwards and then came forwards again to deliver a hardcore uppercut punch. Hariyama fell backward by the power of the punch. Hariyama got up and looked at its opponent. It felt like it was battling five Poliwrath at the same time. It was clearly confused after the hit.

"Hariyama, knock it off and use Thunder Punch!" Brawly ordered. Hariyama shook its head and it became cured of its confusion. Its fists became covered in electricity and it then punched Poliwrath in its stomach. Poliwrath became paralyzed after the electrifying punch it took.

"Now use Smelling Salts" Brawly ordered again. With its huge hands, it slapped Poliwrath. Although Poliwrath's paralysis was cured, it was blasted across the battlefield by the powerful hit. It crashed into the walls of the arena.

"Poli…" Poliwrath said weakly getting up. Chuck knew it could not take another hit.

"Hariyama, use Arm Thrust!" Brawly called out. "Endure it" Chuck had planned to counter it. Hariyama repeatedly hit Poliwrath with its hands. But Poliwrath blocked each hit with its arms.

"Poliwrath, use Hypnosis" Chuck commanded.

"Poliwra…" Poliwrath said in calm voice. Hariyama suddenly felt that the swirls on Poliwrath's belly were spinning. Hariyama started to get dizzy as it stared at the swirls.

"Ri… Yaama…" Hariyama said before it fell to the floor, asleep.

"Now, use Hydro Pump!" Chuck made his final command. Poliwrath unleashed a large blast of water on the sleeping Hariyama which blasted it into the walls of the arena. Hariyama's eyes then became swirly, indicating defeat.

"Hariyama is unable to battle and Poliwrath is the winner. So the victory goes to Chuck!" The referee declared and held the green flag at Chuck's side.

Chuck thanked his Poliwrath for its hard work. Brawly returned Hariyama and came to Chuck.

"You were great and tough to beat! Now, I'm the one proud to say that you were my student" Chuck said.

"But you're always better, sir" Brawly said bowing before his teacher. Chuck laughed and returned Poliwrath to its Pokéball. The two of them then left the arena.

So, this chapter too comes to an end. I hope I get time to write this story. And plus, I've got a lot of ideas for this story. But it will take about 40-50 chapters to make those ideas come true.

Don't forget to review. If you do, you are gonna get a virtual Hariyama. So long guys. This is your friendly-neighbourhood Akhil100, signing out!
