I do not own this! But wish I did... :/
The next couple of days passed by in a blur. No strange incidents took place. I spent my time roaming the streets of Mystic Falls, visiting the woods or just relaxing in the Lockwood garden. I also took out some time to train. I wouldn't want to get out of shape. The Lockwood garden was the perfect place to train. The high garden walls and the quiet surroundings helped me to focus and train. It also kept me hidden out of view.
On Thursday evening, we all had a quiet dinner. It was just Taylor and me. Aunt Carol was still busy with the last minute guest invitations. The next evening was the Masquerade. I couldn't help but be a little excited. The only times I got to attend these kind of parties was either with Granny or James. Those were just a formal obligation towards my coven. I would hardly want to attend them.
But this party would be different. For once, I would like to have fun and not worry about offending an elder.
I sighed in my thoughts.
"You okay, En?"
"Yeah… I'm fine. I was just thinking about the party."
"Just you wait, it's going to be fun. It's going to be pretty huge. Everyone is going to show up for this party."
"I am just … a bit nervous…I guess. I don't know anyone here except for a few people."
"Don't worry. I am gonna' introduce you to all my friends. After this party, you'll also have lots of friends."
I smiled. "So you will also introduce me to Caroline?"
Immediately I saw Taylor become a bit uneasy and tensed. I frowned at his reaction.
"Of course I will."
He gave me a smile and continued eating.
I looked at him thoughtfully for a while. Was something bothering Taylor?
"Hey En, do you have a boyfriend back at home?"
"No, I don't."
"What! You're kiddin' right?" he asked in surprised.
"No, I am not." I smirked.
"But why not? Are the guys in New York blind?"
"No, they're not blind. I just…never found anyone."
I looked up at Taylor's expression and laughed. "Taylor, I've been brought up in a bit of an old-fashioned manner. And anyways, I just never found the right guy. Or any guy with whom I'd ever feel interested to have a relationship with."
Taylor whistled slowly. "Maybe you'll find someone here."
I laughed. "Yeah, maybe."
That night I couldn't sleep. So I sat on the window-seat and looked at the night sky. I looked at the moonlight and the sky glittering with the thousand stars. The window was slightly open, allowing a nice, cool breeze to flow around me.
I was lost in some random thought when I heard noises.
"I can't! I won't take the risk with her around. It's too dangerous."
Wait….that sounded like Taylor. It came from just below my window. I opened the window a bit wider, allowing better hearing.
"Well, you'll have to take the risk. It's the only chance we've got. We can't let go of this opportunity because of some girl."
I found this voice very familiar. I have heard it somewhere…but where?
"Look Damon, she's my family. I don't care what you think, but I won't endanger her. You'll have to do this without me."
Damon! Yes, that's right. Taylor's talking to Damon. What are they talking about? What is Damon even doing here this late at night? I thought in confusion.
"I understand Taylor, but we can't do this without you. Your cousin will be safe, don't worry about her."
"But Stefan-"
"I promise you Taylor." Stefan cut in. "I will take the responsibility of keeping your cousin safe."
It was quiet for a few moments.
Stefan spoke again, "I give you my word. I won't leave her side the entire evening."
Someone sighed. "Okay, fine. I'll do it", said Taylor.
"That wasn't so hard, now was it. If you had just said yes before, then I would have been home having fun with my friend, Whiskey."
They talked some more about a 'plan' and then left. I sat there as still as possible, until I was sure no was there.
I took a deep breath and exhaled.
Just what is going on here? I thought.
"What is Taylor going to do that is so dangerous?" I murmured.
I slowly walked back to my bed and lay down thinking about what had occurred. Things just didn't feel…. normal in this town. Like there's something big happening here.
I don't even know what made me think of vampires but it just won't get outta' my head. I was told that supernatural beings exist. I have dealt with many types and forms of demons to know that's true.
But…vampires… I thought hesitantly. What if they do exist? I mean that is very possible.
"Why wasn't it ever mentioned or I ever told of it?" I whispered.
Well, knowing James…he always wants me to learn things the hard way. He would never aid me unless it was a matter of life and death, I thought exasperatedly.
"I shouldn't be too surprised if they are real." I curled up tight with my teddy bear. "I just hope they are not present in this town. I really want to put those things behind and just have a normal vacation."
I yawned and went to sleep.
Ok...very crucial point. Please, last opportunity to tell me the pairing. Stefan/En, Elijah/En or James/En? Still very undecided...
