Chapter 9

With Olivia by his side the entire time, Wen had sat at his father's hospital bed for quite some time now, and it just hit him hard that he wasn't able to do anything about the condition of his father, because the only thing that he could do was to be patient and hope that his dad would get through this somehow. With a cup of coffee in her hand, Sydney finally returned from the hospital café, and it was pretty obvious that she was exhausted, because Wen could see that all too well as he took a short glance at her, even if she was probably trying her best to not let any signs of being tired show.

"I spoke with your dad's doctor again, and he's still positive that he will wake up from this coma on his own very soon, even if the things aren't looking that good right now because of the latest tests results," Sydney said after a while, apparently trying to get some kind of conversation flowing to end that long silence in the room.

Wen just nodded in response as he also kind of felt a little bit of tiredness creeping in on him, even if he wouldn't admit to anybody willingly right at this moment, and he also didn't know what to say in response to what his stepmother had just said. Meanwhile Scott and Mo had already had gone their separate ways, something that the Lemonade Mouth Bassist still really bothered every time it did have to happen and she already missed him a lot. Being with Scott meant that she could be herself, not some person that her parents wanted her to be, and with her, returning home meant that she had to take over the role of the perfect Indian daughter again, because her parents wouldn't allow her that much freedom as long as she was living under their roof. The Lemonade Mouth Bassist had retreated to her room upstairs once she had talked with her parents a little bit, who of course were sincerely shocked as they heard of the reason, why the band had returned to their hometown earlier than expected by everybody.

She was switching through the TV channels, not really paying that much attention to what was happening on screen as her thoughts just were either all about Wen and the bad medical condition of his father and the wonderful time that she had spent with Scott during the tour of Lemonade Mouth. Her train of thought was interrupted as she heard a soft knock on her door, and even if she didn't want any visitors right now she finally said, "Come in." Of course she already had somehow expected to see either her mother or her father standing on the doorstep of her room, as she saw how the door slowly opened, but even if she appreciated the gesture she knew all too well that she couldn't be that open with her.

Mrs Banjeree sat down next to her daughter on the bed, and with a very thoughtful expression on her face she asked, "Is everything alright with you Mo? Because I couldn't help but notice that something else might be bothering you right now and you know that you can tell me everything." Mo thought about what to say for a few minutes before she finally replied, "No, there's nothing else bothering me right now, I'm just concerned about Wen who really must go through a very hard time now, and I hope that his father is going to be okay again soon."

Mrs Banjeree softly put a hand on the back of her daughter, trying her best to console her as good as possible and then said, "Yes, I really feel sorry for Wen too. No child deserves to go through something like that at this young age. He definitely needs all the support he can get right now."

Mo of course was very thankful for those kind words, even if it still bothered her so much that she wasn't able to tell her the whole truth right at this moment, because she surely didn't want to have another talk about how much important Indian tradition has always been for the whole Banjeree family.

After a short pause, her mother stood up from her bed again and said, "I'll let you rest now, because you must be very exhausted from the long flight. I will see you tomorrow at breakfast."

Mo smiled shortly, as she really appreciated this gesture from her mother, and replied, "Thanks for listening Mom, and you're right, I'm pretty exhausted from the flight." Before she left the room, her mother softly kissed her forehead and then slowly closed the door behind her as she went back downstairs to the living room, which was located directly under her room, and Mo was thankful to finally be alone with her thoughts again. Of course she was as concerned as the rest of the band was for the well-being of Mr Gifford, all of them feeling so sorry for Wen that he had to go through this hell, but they all would make sure that he knew he wasn't alone during this difficult time.

Meanwhile, back at the hospital, Wen still sat on a chair right next to the bed of his father, remembering some of the happier days he had had with them, and all he could think of was: You have to wake up Dad, because I don't know if I will be able to handle it if I lose you. His train of thought got interrupted, as he felt a soft sensation coming up on his right hand, and as he turned to face Olivia she said with a concerned look on her face: "I think that you should get some rest, because you really look terrible, and you haven't slept much since Sydney told you the bad news about your dad." Wen weakly smiled at her and if he was being honest to himself, there was some truth in her words; he indeed had had some sleepless nights since Sydney had told him about his dad's accident. Just right before he wanted to answer her, he couldn't help but yawn as the exhaustion was finally catching up with him. Maybe that meant that he needed to be reasonable now and take his girlfriend's advice.

"I guess that you're right about that, so let's go then. We can come up back tomorrow after I finally got the sleep that I need so much right now." Olivia smiled at that statement, being happy that Wen was willing to take some rest now, and of course she would accompany him back to the hospital tomorrow too.

AN: When will Mister Gifford wake up from the coma? How will the first ever date between Charlie and Stella will go?
