Disclaimer: I don't own Wolfblood

Rhydian barely listened to a word the teacher said all of the way through double history. He barely listened to a word anyone said. It was as though the sounds of the rest of the world came through a badly tuned radio and Bryony was a guiding light shining through it all. Rhydian was vaguely aware that there was something missing, something important but then Bryony put a hand on his arm and he put it to the back of his mind. Halfway through the lesson Rhydian and Bryony left the class so he could give her a tour of the school. Bryony seemed oddly fascinated by the toilets. She spent ten minutes just standing there flushing it.

"You coming?" Rhydian called from the doorway and she reluctantly dragged herself away. As they walked towards the gym where the year sevens were in the middle of a P.E. class, Bryony told him a bit more about herself. She told Rhydian that she'd been abandoned by her parents when she was small and lived in a children's home almost all her life until very recently when she'd been-

"Oh what's the word?" She turned to him desperately. "You know where they take in somebody else's cub and look after them?"

"Adoption?" Rhydian suggested.

"No." Bryony said, chewing on her bottom lip.

"Foster care?"

"YES! Yes, that's it." Rhydian gave her a strange look and they headed off towards the cafeteria, Bryony still looking worried. When they got there Bryony looked at the food and gave a sort of gasp. "What's that?" she whispered, pointing at a tub of a white, cold substance. Rhydian stared at her even more.

"It's ice cream…" He said slowly.

"Ooohh." Bryony said leaning over the counter and staring at the ice cream excitedly. "I've never had ice cream before. We don't have it in Wales." She explained.

"Right." Rhydian said. "Now that can't be ri…" He trailed off as he stared into her eyes and completely forgot what he was going to say.

"Yes Rhydian?" Bryony prompted.

"What? Oh yeah, do you want some?" He asked. Bryony smiled at him in an angelic way.

"Oh yes please."

Once Bryony had finished the ice cream that Rhydian had bought for her, they reluctantly headed back to class. When the bell rang for break, Bryony kept him back until the class had emptied. "You've been so kind to me." She said, staring up at him. Rhydian shrugged but Bryony had smelt something. She turned her head and sniffed. Coming from behind the desk was the smell of a Wolfblood and the smell of a human. Bryony's mind whirled as Rhydian kept talking.

"Well, I…" he trailed off. Bryony's eyes narrowed. 'It must be Maddy' she thought 'and one of her little human friends; we have to get out of here'. Rhydian started to follow her gaze as Bryony snapped her head back to look at him.

"I want to repay that kindness." She said, frantically trying to catch his eyes once again. "Come with me." She offered and at last Rhydian turned to face her. He smiled and she took his hand and led him out into the busy corridor and down to the playground which Rhydian had showed her earlier. She leant up and gave him a kiss on the cheek which warmed him right down to his toes and a pink blush appeared on his cheeks as she smiled at him shyly. Rhydian squeezed her hand and led her over to a wall where they sat and continued their conversation from history.

From over on the football pitch Tom watched with disgust. Bryony hadn't paid him any attention at all during first lesson despite the fact that he was sitting opposite her. The only person she had eyes for was Rhydian. He kicked the ball to Jimmy in frustration. Anyway, Rhydian was for Mads, surely anyone could see that?

"Speak of the devil." He murmured as Maddy and Shannon appeared out of the double doors to the playground. "Hey Mads!" he shouted and raised his arms. They saw him and waved. "Catch up with you later guys!" Tom shouted over his shoulder as he sprinted off to join Maddy and Shannon. He was about fifteen metres away when Maddy spotted Rhydian and Bryony together sitting on their wall, their heads close together, talking quietly. She let out a roar of fury and tried to run towards them but Shannon grabbed her rucksack and pulled her back.

"LET GO OF ME!" Maddy bellowed, causing quite a disturbance among their fellow pupils.

"Tom! Help!" Shannon cried as Maddy broke free from her and set off towards Rhydian and Bryony, who luckily hadn't noticed anything amiss, when Tom cannoned into the side of her, knocking them both to the ground. Shannon came over and together they hauled Maddy kicking and screaming around the side of the art block to shield her from the rest of the school, should she end up transforming.

Maddy had lived among humans all her life so she was quite good at keeping control of her inner wolf but right now she was finding it extremely difficult.

"Did you see them though?" Maddy hissed at Shannon and Tom. "Their heads were practically touching!"

Shannon, ever the practical one, tried to calm Maddy down. "You mustn't worry about it." She said, giving Maddy's arm a comforting squeeze.

"I wouldn't be so sure about that." Tom said, earning him glares from the girls. "Before you two came out I saw her give him a kiss on the cheek."

"WHAT?" Screeched Maddy. That was the last word she managed to get out before her anger took over her whole body. Shannon stumbled back as Maddy transformed into a wolf.

Maddy sat down and let out a howl of misery for the whole school to hear.
