A/N- The only excuse I have for taking this long to update is that I started a Fire Emblem Roleplay blog on Tumblr and it took all my time and writing ability away. And I'm still active on it so updates will be very sporadic from now on. Sorry for the inconvenience. And to note, because this will be important, when Kanji and Naoto are alone, or think they're alone, they'll be speaking Japanese (still translated though so the story is readable) but when they are around other people they'll speak English. And no I'm not going to give them accents because I feel it would be offensive if I tried. If you want to imagine them having accents then that's fine though.

Persona 4: Overseas Romance Chapter 9

Kanji POV

Note to self, avoid planes at all costs. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Imagine about half a day with yelling, screaming kids who continually kick your seat and you can't leave. And of course Naoto was perfectly fine since she does this all the time.

"How do you get so used to this?" I finally asked about halfway through the flight. But she didn't answer. "Hey Nao, you there?" I said waving my hand in front of her face.

"Huh?" She asked taking out a pair of ear buds from her ears. So that's how she does it. "Did you ask me something Kanji?"

"Yeah, I just wanted to know how you can deal with all this commotion."

"Well I guess I've gotten used to it over the years. But I do find that listening to music helps drown out some of the noise. Would you like to listen with me?" Naoto asked offering the right ear bud to me.

"Hm, couldn't hurt." I said putting it in my ear. I was expecting to hear some classical music but to my surprise it sounded like video game music. "This is pretty good." I told her.

"It's from Fire Emblem, it helps me think when I'm stuck on something or just want to relax." She said back.

"So, are you thinking or relaxing right now?" I asked being curious as to how she was feeling.

"A little of both. I'm trying to relax like you but I'm also thinking about this case and how our relationship factors into it."

"What do you mean?" I asked hoping it wasn't anything bad.

"Well when we get there we're probably going to be sent somewhat undercover as boyfriend and girlfriend." She stated.

"I don't see the problem." I said confused.

"My point is that Americans are a little more loose with things like relationships and public displays of affection."

"Oh, now I get it. We gotta act like they would and you're worried because we're as awkward as all get out, even for Japanese standards." I said finally getting it.

"Precisely. So I think some practice is in order for the two of us when we get to our rooming arrangements."

"Are you suggesting what I think you're suggesting?" I asked starting to blush some.

"Yes I am, I want us to kiss when we get there, if you're okay with that." Naoto answered blushing back.

"Are you sure? Because we really don't have to." Stupid! Why did you just say that?! The girl of your dreams wants you to kiss her and you ask if she's sure. I am such a goddamn idiot sometimes.

"Yes, I'm sure. Now that I think about it I think it will be a very enjoyable experience for the both of us." Naoto, I could kiss you right now for saying that. Man, we are really awkward.

"Hopefully." And hopefully nothing weird happens between now and then.

Naoto POV

Before Kanji and I could kiss each other for the first time there were a few things that needed to be done. First off the plane had to land. And the airport was busy, busier than any airport I've ever seen before.

"I wonder what's got everyone so excited?" Kanji asked as we pushed through the crowd.

"I have no idea, in fact I can barely see anything." One of the few flaws of being short.

"Well what am I looking for then?" Kanji asked trying to be helpful.

"I was told that an agent would be waiting for us near the food court." I told him.

"Okay," Kanji said pausing to look at a sign, "It should be this way." And with that he grabbed my hand and led me to the left. After the crowd thinned out he let go and a few minutes later we were at the food court. "Uh Nao, none of these people look like cops to me."

"Maybe they're running late." I pondered. "In any case we should eat something while we're here."

"Good idea, I'm starving." So we ordered some hamburgers from one of the shops and sat down to eat. While doing that I noticed a young looking man, I would guess 25, running along the hallway while adjusting his suit and tie. I would have paid him no mind after that but then he pulled out a sign that said Naoto Shirogane and Kanju Tatsumi.

"Kanji." I said to get his attention.

"Huh?"

"I think that's our contact over there." I said moving my head in the agents general direction.

"Finally. Hey wait, they spelled my name wrong." Kanji pointed out.

"They most likely didn't do that on purpose. Let's go introduce ourselves." I said. So we got up from the table and walked over to the agent. On a second look he was about as tall as Kanji and had short, curly, dark brown hair. But unlike Kanji he was more skinny than muscular. If it came down to it, Kanji would win in a fight.

"Are you two the one I was sent to pick up?" He asked slightly confused.

"Yes we are." I said simply as I slipped into speaking English. The agents eyes quickly lightened up.

"It's an honor to finally meet you Mr. Shirogane, I'm a big fan of your work." He said shaking Kanji's hand. I had to forcibly hold in a laugh at the face Kanji was making.

"Um sir," Kanji started a bit formally since his english isn't quite as good as mine, "I'm not the famous detective here, she is." He said pointing to me.

"Oh my gosh, I am so sorry. I've just heard stories about the 'Detective Prince' and thought prince meant male." The agent said backpedaling. He was starting to remind me of Adachi, and that was making me a bit uncomfortable.

"That's okay, I used to pretend I was a man until my friends showed me how to enjoy being the real me." I told him. "This here is my partner and best friend Kanji Tatsumi."

"Only best friend?" He asked which impressed me since he wanted to know for sure instead of just taking my word for it.

"We're exploring the depths of our relationship." Was the best way I could put it.

"Fair enough. Oh and sorry for misspelling your name Mr. Tatsumi, my Japanese writing is a bit rusty.

"It's fine. And you can just call me Kanji." Kanji said civilly. After that we went outside and got inside a limousine that was sent for us.

"Is the airport always so busy." I asked after a few minutes of silence.

"Not really. It's just that some Japanese idol and her boyfriend are landing there later today. What a coincidence huh?"

"If you belive in those sort of things. Did you happen to catch her name, we're friends with an idol back home."

"I think her name was Riyu Narukawa or something like that. I wasn't paying too much attention since I was focused on you two."

"Hm, never heard of her before." Kanji noted. I had an idea of who it may be but decided to stay quiet for now. "But I'm not into that sort of thing." After that there was more silence until the agent spoke up again.

"Are you two always this quiet?" He asked.

"Not usually." I said not wanting to tell him my suspicions yet. But Kanji did it anyway.

"It's not really you, you just remind us of this guy who we put away a while back. He was a dorky cop like you who stabbed us in the back after we trusted him."

"You think I'm dorky?" Was the first thing he asked. The he shook his head to clear it. "Nevermind that. But yeah, I remember hearing about that case. Belive me, I know all about dirty cops and friends backstabbing you. That's why I joined the FBI, to stop people like that." He had a very determined look in his eyes when he said that.

"I apologize for jumping to conclusions Agent..." It was at that point I realized we never asked his name.

"Carmichael, Special Agent Charles Carmichael. Heh, finally got to say it that way." He said with a grin.

"Well it's nice to meet you Agent Carmichael." I said shaking his hand again.

"Same here." Kanji added.

"Good. Now I have sort of a problem. It's about your rooming arrangements."
