Ocean Serenade
It hadn't occurred to Danny that the boy he saw every night in the woods could be the same merman his parents swore had been hunting Jazz since their ship wrecked. The strangeness of seeing a teenager his age on the deserted island hadn't even crossed his mind when he first saw him, perched on a boulder. Nor the second night, when he spent several long minutes just listening to the soft melody the boy sang under his breath.
It wasn't until he walked right into the other boy's embrace, felt the texture of the other boy's skin beneath his fingers, sleek but marked by tiny circular grooves, that his mind finally shrieked, scales.
By then it was too late. The melody the boy somehow managed to continue humming while his supposed lungs were otherwise engaged in exhaling against Danny's throat had woven its spell too thoroughly. Nights of wandering outside the relative safety of his parents' camp just to hear that breathtaking voice had been the trap snapping shut, and Danny had been the silly, stupid lobster who fell for the pretty green eyes and pure white hair hook, line, and sinker.
He should have listened to the daily lessons Maddie and Jack gave Jazz about breaking a mercreature's influence. Should have realized his dubious sexuality made him as much a target as Jazz. But he'd been too distracted by daydreams and waiting for nightfall. He hadn't thought…
Even now, Danny couldn't break away; could only tighten his hold on the merman's arms as the creature parted his lips and dragged too-sharp teeth across his fluttering artery. Danny's skin shivered, and his swim trunks rubbed uncomfortably against his growing erection. Great, just great. The carnivore probably wouldn't even have the decency of getting him off first, so he was going to die with a boner on top of everything else.
The merman stepped backwards, and Danny stumbled after him, half-pulled by the arms looped around his waist, half unwilling to lose any contact. A swift lick behind his ear startled a gasp from him, and he jerked his head back. He stared at intense green eyes before he had to avert his gaze, shivering. How he had ever thought that eyes like that were natural? Rough lips returned to his neck, and he groaned.
The subtle shift between the forest's dirt and the beech's sand didn't fully register until a startled crab scuttled over Danny's toes. Half-lidded blue eyes shifted to the ocean beyond the merman's shoulders, closer than before. Several feet away, if that.
Danny swallowed. "M-mom," he gasped, too quiet to be heard over the waves crashing against the shore. He sucked in a deeper breath. "Mo—"
The merman's lips sealed over his and swallowed the rest of his shout. Danny resisted, half-turning his head, but with his mind already fogged, his body aroused, and the other boy's hand trailing down to rub his ass, defiance died embarrassingly fast. He hesitated only a second longer before he carded his fingers through the merman's hair—stiff and coarse from the salt water—and opened his mouth for the tongue prodding the crease between his lips.
Tongues collided, exchanging saliva, and Danny made an odd noise as his tongue brushed against the merman's sharp teeth. The two fangs were the sharpest, but there was no denying the pointed tips of the others. He might have pulled away, but the merman stepped closer, and Danny felt the other boy's arousal press against his own. An unexpected moan escaped his throat as heat rushed through his veins.
Having stolen Danny's first kiss (and all the air in his lungs), the merman trailed kisses along his jaw until his lips found their way to the space behind Danny's ear again, latched on, and began gently sucking. Air hissed through his teeth as Danny sucked in a breath, his fist clenching the merman's hair. A second hand joined the first in massaging his ass through his trunks, and the two rocked his hips against the merman's own erection until Danny picked up the rhythm for himself. And followed when the merman's hips moved out of reach. He whimpered and pulled on the merman's hair, but the other boy kept moving backwards.
The surf brushed his ankles, but still he followed. His shins. His knees.
"Danny!"
Danny's eyes snapped open. Ocean waves lapped at his and the merman's thighs. He gasped, and the merman cackled in his ear before the carnivore clamped his jaws over Danny's neck, teeth biting through the soft skin easily. Danny cried out and shoved against the other boy's chest. Blood dribbled down his collarbone and was sucked down the merman's throat before the teenager managed to shove the creature off him.
He clamped a hand over the wound, chest heaving for breath. The scales along the merman's human-looking skin reflected the moonlight and seemed almost to make him glow, but it was the red liquid flowing down his chin that caught Danny's eye. He swallowed and shuffled backwards. He could hear his parents splashing towards him, shouting his name, but he was too far out. Too close to the sea creature.
The merman wiped the blood off his chin and grinned, his knife-like teeth flashing in the moonlight. Danny felt a chill run down his spine, but a moment later, the merman turned around and dove into the ocean, legs bleeding into a black tail before it disappeared beneath the surf as well. Danny gaped after him, confused. He was just…letting him go?
"Danny!" his mom yelled again, much closer this time.
Danny sucked in a breath, spun around and had only to hop/swim a couple paces before his parents reached him. Maddie enveloped him in her arms and Jack moved between them and the open sea, a harpoon gun held in his hands. Quickly, they retreated towards the beach, eyes darting for any sign of the merman's return.
They didn't demand answers from Danny and wouldn't until they'd wrapped their baby boy in blankets and bandaged every minor scrape on his body, but that time would come. Danny rested his head on his mother's shoulder and groaned.
This was not an ideal way to come out of the closet…
Because siren!Phantom is sexier than a merman (if only because you never know when he's going to finish playing with his meal oh god Danny run)
