Hello! So I had another burst of inspiration and this is what came of it. Here is a long awaited Alistair/Maddie and I really enjoyed writing this one. Enjoy!
Maddie Hatter giggled as she poured her third cup of tea. "Earl Grey, what gets wet when drying?" This was one of her favorite times, just riddling away with her beloved Earl Grey and drinking tea. They sat in a random hallway with their table set in the center. Plates filled with sandwiches and cakes. Said mouse squeaked lightly in response causing Maddie to burst into another fit of giggles. "Right! Ok, how about this one: what walks all day on its head?" The mouse paused and looked up at her owner. "Oh, there's no way that that little riddle could stump you!" Earl Grey let loose a string of squeaks and jumped up and down. Maddie laughed and waved him off. "Oh alright, I'll tell you, it's-"
"A nail in a horseshoe." Looking up from Earl Grey, Maddie was greeted with the sight of a blonde boy. His casual jeans and simple white button up was nice and plain. His hair was slightly curled and his eyes were a beautiful sky blue. Maddie found herself, surprisingly, slightly angry at the boys smug expression.
She sat up a little straighter and challenged him, "Well then, what comes once in a minute, twice in a moment but never in a thousand years?"
He didn't even blink an eye before responding with, "The letter m."
"What is as round as a dishpan, deep as a tub, but still the ocean couldn't fill it up?"
"A sieve. I thought you were supposed to be the best riddler in all of Ever After High? I'm sure you can do better that."
Maddie growled in anger, "The more you take the more you leave behind. What are they?"
"Footsteps."
"He who has it doesn't tell it. He who takes it doesn't know it. He who knows it doesn't want it. What is it?"
"Counterfeit money."
"Brothers and sisters have I none but that man's father is my father son."
"My son."
"Who spends the day at the window, goes to the table for meals, and hides at night?"
"A fly."
"What is it that you came keep after giving it to someone else?"
At that the boy hesitated and began to cough lightly. Maddie immediately pulled her hat from her head. Out of it came another teacup to match the set currently on the table. Setting it on to the table by an empty chair, she began to fill it with the steaming brown liquid. The boy slid into the chair and carefully placed two cubes of sugar into the tea. As he leaned to grab a sandwich, Maddie poured in the cream and stirred. Placing a sandwich and two pieces of cake onto his plate, he lifted the teacup to his lips and took a long drink.
"I don't think I ever got your name." Maddie said as she plucked a chocolate chip cookie from the platter in front of her.
The boy laughed and took a bite of the sandwich, "I'm surprised. I thought that you would recognize me."
Maddie furrowed her eyebrows and gave the boy one more long hard look. The blonde hair, the blue eyes, how good he was with riddles, the way he acted as though none of her oddities bothered him-
Oh.
'Oh, he is very good' Maddie thought as a smile slid onto her lips. "Alistair Wonderland, son of Alice, you are early! You're not supposed to be here until Thursday!"
Alistair let a hearty laugh leave his lips and he took another long drink of tea, "Yeah, well, what can I say? I was just so hexcited."
But Maddie didn't laugh. In fact, she was quite miffed. "I had a huge party planned, Ali! I was going to throw a huge surprise tea party with Lizzie and Kitty and it was going to have games and riddles and-"
"Maddie, Maddie it's fine. I'll just pretend and we can still have just as much fun." Alistair said as the mad girl began to wave her hands again.
"No! Now I gave away all the fun! I have to plan a completely new party, different ideas and-"
Alistair merely smiled as he thought to himself, 'This is going to be a wonderlandiful year.'
There it is! I hope you liked it! In a little bit there will be (finally) a Swan Thief one. Also, I want to see how many people can figure out the two riddles I left without an answer. Give it a shot, don't be shy! Other than that, I'm going to go! Bye!
