Chapter 9: The cabin
He felt Emy's strong vines wrap around him and the girl he rescued, and lift him up clear into the air his stomach dropped as he plummeted toward Emy.
She caught her reckless tamer and rushed to the cabins of the rest area up ahead dragging the two she saved inside.
"You Idiot! Idiot! Idiot!" She punctuated each word with a light bop on Terry's head as he merely sat there taking his punishment. She hugged him without any indication that she was going to let go soon. "What were you doing?"
"Well… I saw her… in trouble and… just jumped in…" he panted heavily. Looking over at the water type Pokegirl he tried to save.
Emy had placed her into the bath and filled it room temperature water when they entered the only unoccupied cabin.
Terry had not moved from where she laid him on the bed. Luna clung tightly to him as soon as she was released, having witnessed everything by listening through her ball.
"What's wrong, you're breathing so heavily." Emy placed a hand on his head checking for a fever.
"I'm fine… just winded. I… don't have much stamina. I can't… do too many things like that."
"But you were able to out run me before."
"That's because I'm a sprinter not a runner… I'm not sickly; I just can't run very long." He was finally catching his breath, "That was just too much for me at one time."
"If you knew that then why didn't you have me save her?"
"I, uh…, didn't think about that." He replied looking away sheepishly. "Let's put that aside for now, we need to look after her first. She doesn't look like she's doing so well."
The 'girl they rescued was a mermaid type about five feet and six inches from the top of her head to end of her tail fin. Her skin was a mottled and sickly yellowish brown, with tangled mousy brown hair hanging around her face in oily locks. A pale blue fin split her hair in two as it lay limply to one side. The same tattered pale blue fins lined her scrawny arms, and the nails on the ends of her hands were discolored and ingrown. They could even count the ribs on her bare chest.
The condition of her face worried them most of all, her cheeks were hollow, her eyes were sunken with bruised colored patches under them. Her thin lips were slightly open as she took shallow wheezing breaths revealing her crooked teeth. Bruises could be seen all along her body from where she was dashed against the rocks before Terry and Emy saved her a large bruise spread across her ribs indicating a possible break.
"This place doesn't have a proper pokecenter in it." Terry said considering his options. "And because of the storm outside it is impossible for us to transport her to Fortree and the nearest pokecenter. We already gave her a couple of the strongest potions I bought, so… let's see how she does in the morning." Emy and Luna nodded in agreement to his proposal.
"Do you know what breed she is? I have never seen anyone who looked like her." Luna asked placing fresh towels onto her cuts and cold presses on her bruises.
"I'll check the pokedex." Opening it up Terry scanned the Pokegirl. After a few seconds it beeped and the screen lit up showing Terry the results of the search.
"It says that she is a feeblass, the wretchedly unattractive Pokegirl. Well that's rude. Not much is known about them except basic details. They live at the bottom of bodies of water and they are always in a state of severe self-neglect." Terry frowned while thinking on this, "Well we still need to get her to pokecenter. You two get some rest I'll watch over her."
Some hours after Emy and Luna had fallen asleep the storm had settled down to a lesser degree, but between the pelting rain and how dark it was Terry felt it was too dangerous to travel outside.
When he was changing her makeshift bandages Terry noticed that her body was remarkably hot to the touch. Shit, does she have a fever? Terry swore under his breath, he pulled up the health page on his pokedex for her and found the fever was a few degrees under lethal. Swearing again and he rummaged through his pack looking for fever reducers, and found none. He swore once more with medicine and herbs out of the question for obvious reasons, he was left with very few options, either sit there and hope for the best or capture her to put her in a semi-static state inside the ball and getting her to a pokecenter, fast. After only wasting a second to decide he tossed a ball at her and woke up Emy and Luna when it flashed red.
"Emy, Luna I think we should move. We need to get her to a pokecenter, she developed a dangerously high fever." He walked over to the window and looked out at the storm. The rains still gave enough of a foreboding feeling that he thought it wisest to wait for dawn.
"It is about an hour from sunrise, so we should get ready to leave in an hour." With that they all started to pack up. The hour passed by quickly and found them already out of the cabin and in the now lighter rain. With it still dark and treacherous they had Luna lead them along the safest path up the slope.
They slowly made their way across the rain sodden path with only Terry's flashlight to light their path. Despite it being dawn the heavy storm clouds on the horizon blocked sun letting little if any sunlight through. The storm seemed to be moving away from them toward Fortree city. With the soft mud slipping out from under them a few times they reached the wooden bridge as it swayed in the brisk wind.
"I don't like how strong the wind is. Master I think we should either wait for the wind to dye down or find another way." Emy said with a troubled look watching how much the bridge swayed, and how slick the rain made the bridge.
"I don't think there are any other safer paths." Luna stated looking around the slope. "The storm may have ruined our other options."
"I don't want to take any longer than necessary to cross the bridge, we still don't know how much longer it will take to traverse the rest of the route." Terry pause for a second considering his pokegirls' opinions. "I think the fastest way would be to travel across the bridge. She may be in the pokeball, but we don't have enough time to sit and wait hopping the weather will let up, or to take a detour, so we should continue along this path."
Luna led them across the bridge with Terry then Emy following closely behind. Each time the wind shook the bridge Terry felt his stomach drop, and second guessed his decision. Suddenly there was a howl and a tremor ran through the bridge. Luna dropped down holding the railing tightly, Emy attached herself to the bridge with her vines. Terry lost his footing and stumbled against the rope railing; Emy cried out in panic and grabbed Terry with a vine.
"T-thank you…" Terry could feel himself shaking. "I-I think we should c-continue like this for a while."
"I still think crossing the bridge was a bad idea." Emy reached out another vine to hold onto Luna as well. Terry was inclined to agree with her after that, but they were almost across so they continued forward.
Safely making it across the bridge they continued along the thankfully flat and stable ground, even if it was water logged. Trekking through the light rain and strong wind they soon saw a massive structure in the distance.
Ahead of them was the weather institute. The building was two stories built in a modern style with large planes of glass. Two ends of there were rounded forming large glass and concrete pillars several large rooms in diameter. Atop the building were two dome-like weather radars. The looming building held little interest for the three as they passed by onto the final bridge before Fortree city.
With this one shorter and less effected by the wind thanks to the cliff and waterfall a short distance away they made it across without incident, from there it was a short walk to the safety of Fortree city.
Entering the city they were immediately greeted with the unorthodox sight of the entire city resting in the tree tops. Many buildings in the city had entrances incorporated into the roots of the trees, which then led into the trees and up the trunks to an overhanging living space and balcony. There were walkways connecting the houses at their highest levels. Even with the storm blowing its fury against them the home trees barely swayed or shook in the wind. Ignoring this amazing sight the trio made a straight line for the pokecenter.
The wind howled through the lobby as the automatic doors opened letting them in. The Nurse Joy on duty at the time was readjusting her nurse's cap which had been disturbed by the gust of wind.
"Are you okay?" She asked coming over to them after sending for three sets of towels. Giving Terry and Emy a towel she began to gently dry off Luna when another Joy came in with the towels. "What were you three doing out in this?"
"It's an emergency," Terry pulled out the pokeball containing the feeblass. "She is hurt and running an extremely high fever."
Looking down at the ball she sent the second Joy with the pokeball into the medical rooms to prepare an intensive care unit. Turning back to the shivering trio, a frown crossed her face.
"Now about you three, as brave as it was to bring her in now, it was also incredibly stupid!" Displaying an amazing talent for multitasking she gave them a full blown lecture while simultaneously drying the three of them off.
Sensing a break in her speech Terry thanked her profusely and started to walk over to the lobby's chairs, but he was stopped by the Nurse Joy's grip on his collar. "Where do you think you're going?"
"Uh, I was going to wait for her out here?" He sensed danger in her strained smile.
"Not in soaked clothes, or do you want to join her in there? You three will go and take a warm bath while we dry your clothes." Turning around she grabbed the three of them by the collar and dragged them to the tamer's room wing of the hospital.
"But I-"
She quickly cut him off, "No, there is no room for argument here we will come and get you when she has been stabilized." Relenting he let himself be dragged along with his Pokegirls to one of the vacant rooms. The three of them rested in the room to the sound of birds singing in the almost clear skies.
Meanwhile…
Outside the storm had started to clear over Mauville city, and found May and Wattson walking out the Mauville gym after a particularly intense battle she earned her Dynamo badge from him.
"So where are you thinking of heading first?" Wattson asked May.
"Hmm…, I don't know." May looked down biting her thumb nail while considering her options.
"Well I have a suggestion," she looked up to see a rare look of seriousness on the old man's face. "Terry headed east to Fortree city just before the storm set in. It looked like Fortree to the heaviest hit over there, and I'm worried about him."
"He went east…" looking out to the eastern horizon where the clouds were still dispersing, she grew uneasy with the thought that Terry could have been in that almost legendary downpour. "I think I'll go Fortree next."
"Be careful out there I heard that route 120 was closed due to mudslides." She nodded and immediately headed out to the east. "Where are you going? Soot was almost collapsed in our battle right?"
"Ah! You're right!" She immediately turned around and ran straight into the pokecenter.
Wattson laughed to himself, "She really hasn't changed at all."
After her detour she rushed through Mauville city reaching route 118 in less than an hour.
With the river starting to lower she felt it safe enough to cross. Pulling out a pokeball she tossed it and released the Pokegirl from inside of it.
Her newly captured whoresea stretched and flexed her 5' 6" body as if she had just woken up. The sunlight glistened off of her sea blue skin. Her hair was a darker shade of blue reminiscent of a sapphire ended in a point at her shoulders, three light blue fins evenly split her hair. Two long fins ran down her back from her shoulders connecting together in a v shape as they met her tail. Her tail itself was as long as she was tall stretched to its full length before curling around her midriff over the middle of her white swimsuit. The top of swimsuit ran from her b-cup breasts down her front to her hips leaving her back bare from her shoulders to just above her tail. Turning around she spotted her tamer, a broad smile appeared on her face and she hopped over to May.
"Hey Mara." May greeted the cheery whoresea. "We need to cross this river. Do you think you can take me over it?"
Mara turned and looked over at the still slightly swollen river. "Of course!" The two of them swam across the brisk current with May holding onto Mara's waist, and landed on the other side without incident.
They both turned north looking out at the slowly retreating storm that still had enough fury to pelt the area with fat heavy drops in a slow but heavy downfall. Seeing as she was already drenched from the swim, May forgo any protection from the rain and continued on north looking for the rest area mentioned on her map.
The rest cabins shortly came in sight while May listened to Mara hum an improvised tune to herself. The cabins had been designed with tamers in mind. The cabin measured 30x20 feet fitting a tamer with a full harem somewhat comfortably. Inside were two queen sized beds pushed together, a chair in the corner, a small table in the other corner, and a small bathroom.
As she walked up to the cabin door she heard something scrape along the floor followed by a moan. She motioned for Mara to be silent and moved her ear closer to the door. Curious Mara followed suite. The two of them heard heavy breathing coming from behind the door, causing a blush to spread across both of their faces.
"Maybe we should try another cabin," May suggested "we shouldn't interrupt them." The two of them started to leave before they heard a voice speak up from the room.
"No… please stop…" The pitiful pleading voice begged. May and Mara looked at each other in shock.
"Stop struggling." A male voice commanded. That voice sounded like…
"Terry! What the hell are you doing?!" May barged in nearly knocking the cabin door off its hinges. In front of her she saw a scene she couldn't quite believe.
Terry was sitting on top of a mermaid type Pokegirl she had never seen before. His clothes were disheveled, his face was red from exertion, a large wet spot covered his chest, and he was holding a toothbrush in the mouth of the Pokegirl below him.
"No really… What the hell is going on?" The Pokegirl below Terry took the time to escape behind Emy and Luna who were sitting on the bed with troubled expressions on their faces.
"Hey I wasn't finished." Terry exclaimed still holding the brush in his hand. The Pokegirl hid further behind the two plant types.
"Uh Terry what is going on?" May asked again grabbing Terry's attention. "What happened here?" she asked looking around the room. It was as if a chase scene from one of those pre-Sukube movies happened in it.
"Well you see we left Fortree so that we could head over to the day care center outside of Mauville, and we decided to stop in this cabin to stay the night. And then as finished cleaning up after lunch we found out that Calisto, she's the one hiding behind Emy and that is Luna, who you haven't met yet she joined us shortly after you and I separated," Terry pointed to the both of them with the toothbrush, "Where was I?"
"After lunch." Emy reminded him.
"Right, after lunch we found out that Calisto hasn't ever brushed her teeth, let alone even seen a toothbrush before. I tried to get her to brush her teeth and… uh… escalated from there."
"He chased her around the room and caught her just before you came in." Emy clarified, while Terry looked off to the side with his cheeks growing a bit warmer and a dissatisfied frown on his face.
"You know Terry, she probably did run away for a reason. You could have scared her if you were too forceful." Terry looked over to his Pokegirls and they all nodded in unison. He looked down with his face fully red.
"Well this is kind of switch in our usual roles." Terry said a smirk. "Usually I'm the sensible one."
"Yeah that felt really weird to say." May grimaced and then turned towards Calisto. "And also you do really need to at least brush teeth each day. You like Terry right?"
"Well… he is the one who saved me… so yes I guess I do." Calisto said looking up from behind Emy and Luna's shoulders.
"And you don't want to repay him by making him sad, right?" She meekly nodded. "Well if you get sick from poor hygiene then you will make him sad, so it's just common sense that you should brush your teeth."
"See even May says so." Terry came over to Calisto and handed her the brush.
"Somehow I think I should feel insulted by that." May gave Terry a displeased look to which he gave her a wide grin in reply. Calisto excused herself to the bathroom.
"May, where is Soot?" Terry asked suddenly just noticing her absence now that the commotion has died down.
"Ah right." May pulled out a ball and released it. "I was moving her in her ball because of the rain."
From the flash emerged a taller more well-endowed Soot. A soft orange and red down covered her chest just above now b-cup breasts forming a v shape as it lies in between her breasts and ends at her the point of her sternum. She puffed her chest proudly as everyone turned to look at her giving her plume a soft puffy look. Her fiery red hair formed a plume at the back of her head with some long red feathers tied into it. The most striking feature of her were her eyes, the pupils of her eyes had turned the same scarlet as her irises turning them into solid coins of scarlet. Her eye brows had become sharper and angled giving her a more avian look. A frowned creased her face as she inspected one of the talons on her hand. She walked over to May's bag and searched through it while bending over at the waist directly within Terry's line of sight. Only then did he notice that not only did she choose to forgo any clothes above the waist, she did not wear even a stitch below the waist giving him a clear view of everything.
"Soot! I told you that if you're not going to wear anything then you can't bend over like that!" May exclaimed, to which Soot simply turned around and stuck her tongue out at her as a reply.
"Isn't she cold like that?" Terry asked May.
"Of course not, I'm a fire type." Soot answered for her in a petulant tone. Her frown returning she sat down on a chair and started filing her talon.
"What was that?" Terry asked more than a little taken back by the outburst.
*sigh* "She has been that pissy ever since she evolved." May seemed to deflate a little at the mention of Soot's attitude. A single *humph* could be heard from Soot's corner of the room before she fell silent again isolating herself from the rest.
Time passed slowly in the cabin as they waited out the remnants of the storm. May had released Dart before deciding on hanging up her clothes to dry she wrapped a towel around her and Soot using her as a personal heater. Despite the permanent frown on her face a blush could be seen through her deep tan. At least that hasn't changed. Terry thought to himself feeling a slight sense of relief.
May dressed lightly after she felt warm enough, and begun to talk with Terry so the two could catch up on what had happened with each other while they were separated.
"Terry seems like a different person with her around." Luna remarked to Emy.
"With who? May?" Luna nodded Emy furrowed her brow in thought, "Hmm… yes he does seem to act differently with her around." Emy watched the two of them as May suddenly grew flustered and upset with Terry as he just laughed about something either he said or she did. Mara seemed to be as confused about the two's dynamic as Luna was.
As the sun lazily set Terry and his Pokegirls were sitting out on the small porch while May continued to noisily lose money to her own Pokegirls in the poker game Terry started with her. Emy and Luna sat on the steps with Terry as he finished his drink, as Calisto basked in the slight drizzle.
"Master I was wondering about something." Terry looked over to Emy.
"About what?"
"Well it's about how you are when May is around. Well you seem sort of… uh…, how to say it…" He nodded his head encouraging her to continue taking a sip of his drink.
"You seem to bully her." Luna said frankly causing him choke on the liquid in his mouth.
"You think so?" he asked sputtering and coughing out the drink from his windpipe.
"Yeah you do seem to get a mean streak when you're around her." Emy agreed. "We were wondering if you liked her or not."
"Huh, is that what it looks like?" the two of them nodded, Calisto pulled herself closer interested in the conversation.
"Well she has been my best friend for the whole five years I lived here, and I do tease her a lot but never maliciously. We've had this relationship for a while." He looked around at the curiosity in their looks. "Well I guess I should tell you guys about how we were when we were younger."
Taking another drink he began,
It was the day I just moved to the Hoenn region, I was feeling fairly depressed about it; leaving all of my friends behind was part of it, but I felt that we moved because of me so I felt pretty guilty over that. I had found an a secluded area out behind the house we moved into as I was moping around in the hiding spot I found, May popped in and started to talk with me. She only left after I told her to go away. But she returned the next day and left after I told her to leave again. We continued like that for some time until I finally yelled at her, and of course with her being, well, her she yelled back at me, calling me stuff like "sissy boy" and "crybaby." Which seeing as how I was around fourteen at that time I wasn't going to take that lying down.
So I jumped up and tried to make her take it back, but she evaded me and ran out with me close behind her. I would almost catch her but she pull away just in time, and when I would run out of breath she stood out of reach and waited for me to get my breath back before running away again. We ran around for hours until the both of us collapsed next to each other completely forgetting why we were running in the first place too tired to even laugh but we tried to any ways. From then on her favorite nickname for me was "sissy boy" I resented it for only about a year. She would rile me and then we would run around like idiots for a while.
We eventually settled down a degree and by then our roles just naturally shifted. Before she would pick on me to get a rise out of me and I would chase her until we got bored, then it became so that she would do something silly or ditzy and I would pick on her in return getting a rise out of her. It was thanks to her that I got over my bad feeling about moving.
He ended the story by setting down his empty glass.
"So do you love her?" Calisto asked with her eyes sparkling, Emy and Luna also looked over at him wanting to know the answer too.
"Do I love her…?" the question caught him off guard. "I never thought about that."
The door behind them burst open and May appeared with tears streaming down her face.
"Terry! Soot took all of my money!" she said while leaning on his chest and giving him a pleading tearful expression.
*Sigh* She never changes. Terry thought after looking into her tear stained puppy dog eyes.
"Of course she did your tells are extremely easy to read."
"What?! What are they?!"
"If I told you what they are then I couldn't take your money."
"You're so mean!" she exclaimed pounding her fists on his chest.
"Alright, alright." He said stopping her halfhearted attack, "We should get some sleep now."
May moped her way back in with Emy and Luna following her with troubled looks on their faces. Terry walked over and picked Calisto up. As he stood up with her in his arms he noticed a white figure in the distance silhouetted against the setting sun.
"What's wrong Terry?" Calisto asked looking out where he was.
"Nothing it's just I think I saw that thing before." He watched as it disappeared behind a hill off in the distance. They walked in to find May still crying over her loss as Soot counted how much money she won.
