The smoke billowed into the air, choking the town in a cloak of blackness. The two trainers stood beside one another, knowing their battle with a Legendary Pokémon was about to begin. The screams of the citizens running from the bird were the only sounds heard, not even the screech of the Flying-Type Pokémon could be heard over them. Zemo and Red looked directly at one another, both knowing they'd have to team up to fight the Pokémon. Officer Jenny, a tall blue haired woman ran up to the pair and tried to move them with the help of her small dog-like Pokémon Growlithe barking at them, trying to scare them off. The pair stood firm, ready for the battle with Zapdos. Zomo slowly rose from the shadows on the ground, like liquid being sucked into the air. The shadows solidified and Zomo floated beside Zemo. Red threw his PokéBall into the air and watched as blinding white light erupted from the red and white ball. As the light died down he smiled as his Charmeleon stretched its body and shot a flame from its mouth. It growled and stared directly at Zapdos. Jenny took a few steps back, unsure of what the pair were about to do.
Red wasn't sure how this battle was going to end but all he knew was he had to give it all he had to ensure Cerulean City remained safe and the citizens were OK. He looked to Zemo who was already ordering his Darkrai to attack using Dark Void. Zomo flew into the air, locking eyes with the Zapdos, and conjured a ball of darkness between its hands. Zomo shot the ball of darkness towards Zapdos, who with one flap of its wings went higher into the air and screeched again sending a large bolt of lightning crashing into Zomo. Zemo cursed under his breath, not anticipating the speed of the Electric Pokémon. Zomo smashed into the ground, its body buzzing with electricity. Red ordered Charmeleon to shoot an Ember attack at Zapdos, trying to at least to some damage. Zapdos dodged through the Ember, coming in quick. Its body began spinning, speeding up as it came in towards Charmeleon faster and faster. The point of its beak hit Charmeleon square in the chest, sending the Fire-Type Pokémon into the nearby building shooting rubble and dust into all directions. Red cursed and ran up to the building, carefully pulling his Pokémon out from the hole. He looked over to Zapdos who screeched again and began sending Thunderbolts in random directions, making it difficult to determine a pattern of attack.
Zemo leapt to Zomos' aid, pulling his friend from the ground and spraying a yellow topped potion onto his Pokémon and healing it from paralysis. Zomo shook its body, ready for another round with the Legendary Pokémon. Zemo didn't need to say a word as Zomo took to the sky and fired Dark Void after Dark Void, trying its hardest to hit Zapdos. The Electric Pokémon dodged the attacks again and came swooped in with another Drill Peck, this time aimed at Zomo. Charmeleon – recovered a little – tried to intercept Zapdos' attack with Ember and stop it from hitting Zomo. A small flame hit Zapdos under the eye, enough for the Pokémon to miss its assault on Zomo but now on a collision course towards Zemo. Zomo sank into the shadows and moved as fast as it possibly could to get to its friend. Charmeleon stood up straight and took a deep breath and let loose a powerful Flamethrower towards Zapdos, shocking Red, Zemo and Jenny – who was too stunned with the battle in front of her to help the trainers. The Flamethrower hit Zapdos and burned its wing, the Pokémon giving out a louder, higher pitched screech with the pain effectively stopping it from hitting Zemo. Red refused to allow the Pokémon to defeat Zemo, it was his job. He would be the one to put Zemo down, not this Pokémon who thinks it could come and destroy the city and get away with it. Zomo leapt out of the shadows and shot a powerful Dark Pulse towards Zapdos, scoring a critical hit on the Flying-type. Zemo smirked and ordered his Pokémon to use Shadow Ball, intending to end the battle. Zapdos screeched and released a Discharge, hitting all of them and sending them flying in different directions.
Red crashed into the ground, searing pain shooting up his back. He clenched his teeth, forcing back a considerable number of curses threatening to escape his lips and tightly closed his eyes trying to avoid the tears forming in his eyes. Jenny and Growlithe were knocked unconscious with the one hit. Zemo and Zomo were separate quite a distance from one another and Zapdos locked onto Zemo. Zemo slowly propped himself up on his arms looking up in time to see Zapdos coming speeding towards him with another Drill Peck. There was nothing he could do as the Drill Peck pierced his chest sending jolts of pain through his body which quickly began numbing as his heart stopped, his body going limp. A small gasp escaped his lips as his last breath left him. His eyes closed and Zapdos threw his lifeless body into the air, screeching again, Zemo's blood caking its beak. Red opened his eyes as Zemos' body landed on the ground with a soft thud. Red stared in disbelief; his enemy had been killed by the Zapdos.
Anger surged through his body; dulling the pain he was feeling, clouding his thoughts as he rose to his feet. He gritted his teeth together, his hands clenched in tight fists. He looked over to Charmeleon who was getting back to his feet. Both trainer and Pokémon growled with rage, their feelings becoming shared between them. Zomo flew over to Zemos' body, lifting the lifeless shell from the ground and holding him close. The flame mark on Reds' collar bone began burning intensely, a weird feeling of power rushing through his body. He looked to Charmeleon, his Pokémon standing in the same stance as him. Charmeleon looked at Red and nodded. Red understood that his friend and partner wanted revenge on this Zapdos for taking away the pleasure of defeating his enemy from him. The mark glowed red, the aura swiftly covering Pokémon and trainer, their body and minds becoming one. Red felt power he'd never felt before, his vision going red with the anger that coursed through their veins. Red thought of shooting a Flamethrower at Zapdos and without needing to order his Pokémon to do so Charmeleon shot a more powerful Flamethrower at Zapdos, scorching the Flying-Types' body. Next, Red thought of running up close to the Pokémon and clawing at the burn on Zapdos' body. Without a second thought Charmeleon done exactly as Red wanted, only his claw began shining. Slashing down Zapdos' burn with a Metal Claw Charmeleon roared with pleasure as the power it was feeling increased.
"Let's end this!" yelled Red, his body and soul merged with his Pokémon fully. "FIRE BLAST!" Charmeleon, never having used the attack before, managed to pull it off, spitting flames from its mouth which took the shape of the kanji Dai meaning big, the attack connecting with a direct hit on Zapdos. The bird Pokémon tried to keep itself aloft but the damage done to it had proved to be too much for even it to handle and it fell to the ground, wheezing in pain.
The red aura receded back into the mark on Reds' collar bone, the experience taking a lot of out of the young trainer. His body tumbled to the ground exhausted and Charmeleon took a step towards him before collapsing himself. Both Pokémon and trainer fell into a deep sleep as Zomo stalked past them, still holding its friends' body. Saying a silent goodbye the Pokémon sunk into the shadows and disappeared from the city, going somewhere no-one would find it nor its friend.
