CHAPTER NINE

Welcome readers of To Be Honest, to the last main chapter of this story. It's been a long ride, a lot of waits, but if I'm being honest (see what I did there?) I'm really happy for this chapter. Will they get a job at Google? Will Graham get his happy ending? Will Scott be revealed or will Mason get in the way? Well...go a head and find out. Thank you for reading!

Joelle along with the others rushed to Hall D. The smile on her face wouldn't falter, even with two pizza boxes scorching her hands. Sal signed the form, filled it out and she was so glad she gave in earlier today. While they drove in two separate cars Billy had called in a favor, something about a big screen.

Whatever it was they were about to find out as they made it to the glass doors of Hall D. All she could hear was the pounding of seven pairs of feet hitting the concrete or the enthusiastic yells from Lyle and Nick. Neha and herself reached the doors Yo-Yo and Billy holding it open. Joelle raised an eyebrow at the music, walking inside she found out what the favor was.

On the massive screen were animated disco dancers with their faces plastered on them.

If anything that made her happiness double. All Googlers, Nooglers, and guests looked at them cheering and clapping. Maybe it was the entrance or the pizza, whatever it was it felt good. She walked to the beat, swaying her hips as she handed out the first box of pizza to the middle section. By the time she got to the front she narrowed her eyes handing the box to Graham who had his hands out.

"Here ya go!" Joelle said handing it to the other row making Graham roll his eyes and lean back in the plastic chair.

Standing just off the stage steps she clapped along with the crowd, her eyes looking up at the balcony spotting Shawn, Libby, and Scott all there hidden in a sea of Googlers. Joelle smiled and gave a small wave, her family giving her waves back.

In the end, the music stopped Billy handing the last box to Chetty, "This one has extra toppings boss."

"I see that." Chetty said holding up the form before looking up to the cheering crowd, "That's enough, enough!"

Joelle prayed they pulled it off, her teammates having the same face on. It was silent, the only sounds were really muffled whispers and the chewing of pizza. That's when Graham spoke up, him and his ugly bright red sweater which was a step up from a blazer, but a baby step. "That's lovely theatrics but the jig is up. It's too late, rules are rules, right Chetty?

Joelle was pretty sure everyone in the room wanted to punch that man.

"Yes, rules are rules. The rules state that every team has the right until the announcement has been made to turn in their sales." Chetty said and they all made excited noises, Joelle giving her team a nodding smile before Chetty went on. "So despite your lack of punctuality which is astounding, I have no choice but to accept this submission and recalculate."

"Go ahead, recalculate. One sale to a small family pizza joint isn't going to make a difference anyways." Graham said looking confident, his voice ringing through the room.

She ignored him, her heart almost in her throat feeling the urge to ballistic, but Billy and Nick gave her reassuring looks while Stuart beside her caught it, taking her hand in his. Nodding Joelle watched as Chetty's face fell looking from their form to the calculations.

"It seems, Mr. Hawtrey is correct once again," Chetty said and Graham seemed like adding a sound effect was funny, "the sales from one shop from the last challenge were not enough to put you in the lead."

Everything fell around her, her team fell with her. Stuart squeezing her hand meanwhile Billy and Nick consoled all of them. Lyle and Yo-Yo trading sad looks while she put a hand on Neha's shoulder. Maybe giving in earlier was stupid, by now she'd be half way done with packing. She was brought here only to be personally told she lost.

"But." Chetty said.

Her head snapped up, giving her a bit of whiplash but it was worth it as the man walked down the small steps.

"This is not one shop. You see this is a blossoming franchise with endless possibilities thanks to you. What you have done as a team connect to people, and connect those people to information. Which is what we do; and more than that you had the courage to dream despite your obvious and astonishing limitations. You never gave up on that dream."

That was really a you won and Chetty did the ladies and gentleman thing too. Holy shit, it was like a fucking roller coaster, one moment they lost the next maybe and lastly yes...this would cause brain damage. But once again the roller coaster took a turn when Graham stood up.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold on. No offence you're a glorified babysitter, let's get someone down here who actually means something." Graham demanded scanning the crowd.

Before Joelle could react, or anyone really a man stood up who whore a ratty brown sweater and red headphones, "I'm right here." He said walking forward with a very smug yet stoic look on his face. Chetty introduced him as Mr. Anderson head of Google Search. This guy, this guy was like the Jesus of Google.

"Look at you headphones, little mystery behind the guy." Billy said with a smile.

Graham raised an eyebrow, "How do you know him?"

"We're encouraged to reach out to experienced Googlers. It's pretty simple, not a big mystery." Nick said and Andrew nodded looking to Graham while closing his laptop fully while continuing on.

"To reach out to other Googlers, not just kiss their ass. You see these interns are smart, collaborative, pretty, and just weird enough to make them interesting. Also they came together as a team to do something here, their Googliness is simply off the charts." Andrew said and Joelle felt pretty damn good after that one.

Graham however looked a little frustrated, rubbing his hands on his face, "Just stop with the Googliness. Like, what does that even mean?"

"The fact you don't know what it means is why you will never work here. And you were never going to work here in the first place." Andrew said.

Joelle wasn't the only one lost on that, so she stepped forward getting Andrew's attention, "What is that supposed to mean?"

Andrew smiled at her, putting a hand over her shoulder and pulling her in. Glancing over both her team and Mr. Chetty had smirks on their faces. Graham looked ready to explode. "Well Joelle I'll tell you exactly what that means. It's means that your team reported this man right here with the bullshit accent -yeah I said it- messing with you throughout the internship. Which violates the rules by the way. So I took that into my own hands and looked through various footage though our security cameras."

"What?" Graham choked out looking pale and his accent faltering.

Andrew leaned in, meanwhile Joelle was ten seconds from dancing and screaming for joy. "Sexual harassment at the workplace not only violates our rules here at Google, but violates the law. So I did my part and informed the authorities who will take good care of you. Now you're a real dick for making me get up here and saying a whole bunch of words in front of a while bunch of people."

The crowd behind them gasped, whispers and comments being made while Graham gave her a glare, fuming before looking at Chetty.

"So you're going to arrest me but let some stupid, college drop-out teen mom get the job-?" Joelle tuned out after that, her stomach in knots because she wanted to ease Scott in, now it was ripped off like a band-aid. Her team and the crowd looked at her with nothing but bug eyes. She didn't look up, but she actually met with Chetty before the internship, explaining her situation asking for a chance just like the others. Joelle was sure that the man had her back.

By the time she looked up the crowd was cheering, her team was still reeling that they'd won, meanwhile Graham was being cuffed and taken away. Andrew nodded at her pointing over to the stairs, Joelle looked seeing Libby ans Shawn walking over, Scott toddling as fast as he could. She turned on her heel, moving away from the front and got to the back picking up Scott to pepper kisses all over his face.

"So...you were sexually harassed? Jesus, why don't you tell us those things Jo-Jo?" Shawn asked while Libby just congratulated her on the job.

"We still drivin' Mama?" Scott asked, kneading at her shirt.

Joelle shook her head, holding him close, "No baby. We get to stay here. Is that okay?"

"Yes! I wansa stay!" Scott beamed.

Joelle laughed thanking her brother for coming out, thanking both him and Libby for semi packing up her home for nothing. Before long though, her team found her, hesitantly walking over.

"We'll give you a minute." Libby said and Joelle nodded, keeping a hold of Scott. She kept thinking about how this would go, and this wasn't one of the ways she thought in her head. This was forced, this was sudden, this needed to happen at one point. Her team stopped, crowding around her and she realized the only to missing her Nick and Billy who were off talking to Chetty and Dana.

"So your Nephew is actually your son?" Neha asked, looking a bit hurt.

"Who's the father?" Lyle asked.

"You dropped out of college?" Yo-Yo asked.

Stuart remained silent.

"Whoa, hold on. I can answer all of this one at a time." Joelle said, walking back behind the stairs, leading them to a bunch of couches. Sitting down she almost had Scott sit next to her but he made a frantic whining noise, making grabby hands. Sighing Joelle settled him on her lap, taking a breath while her team gave her expecting looks.

"So, this is my two and a half-year old son Scott. When I was in college I knew a guy named Mason, he's the biological father who is fighting for custody now. That's why I was packing; I don't really have money so I told my landlord if I got the job here I'd pay my rent regularly. However I gave up and was ready to go to Arizona with Scott, my parents live there. When I was pregnant with Scott it was a little much for me, so I dropped out of college giving up my education to raise him."

By the end of her little rant the four across from her looked anything but mad. It was the kind of silence where thinking was done, their eyes glued on Scott while he played with his fingers. His Octonaut shirt had a new stain in it which looked a little newer than Joelle liked.

"So where was he earlier today?" Yo-Yo asked referring to the apartment.

"In the room with the closed-door. My older brother Shawn was in there with him packing." Joelle said, Stuart looking amused which scared her a little. Lyle was the first one to break, getting up and sitting beside her on the couch, holding his hand out for Scott who looked at it for a moment, smiling, and then high fiving it.

"Hey little buddy, I'm Lyle, friend of your Mommy's." Lyle said.

Scott tilted his head, "Ile?" He tried not really getting the L in there.

"Close enough." Lyle shrugged. After that Yo-Yo introduced himself and Scott said he's always wanted a Yo-Yo, which worked out pretty great. Now he'd stop bugging Joelle every time they went to a store for one. Neha hugged her, saying sorry for being angry while Joelle apologized for keeping secrets. After Scott met those three they left to go talk to friends and family.

Joelle stood up, Scott at her side hitting his hands on the plastic couch. Stuart had his arms crossed and glasses a little ajar on his face. "I've known by the way. The whole time about Scott."

"What? How?" Joelle asked, doubting he really knew.

"Remember the translate lecture? You said your aunts son, therefore your nephew. He's actually be your cousin and plus he looks just like you. After our date you had that one door closed and I saw a few Lincoln Logs under the couch."

Joelle was frozen, mouth wide open feeling her cheeks flush. So Stuart didn't mind she had a kid this whole time? Now she felt a little stupid for keeping him away, Scott wasn't that bad. She wasn't the first teen mom out there and wouldn't be the last even though she was twenty-two now.

"So you don't mind him?" Joelle asked.

Stuart rolled his eyes, walking the three steps it took to be in front of her, "No. I mean sure I'm a total dipshit sometimes but I like kids. Besides he's a cute one, just like his Mommy." She blushed, nodding before they kissed. This is gonna sound so cliche, but it was like the first real kiss. There was nothing being hidden as far as she knew and it just felt right. His lips were soft against her's, he tasted like pizza but she liked pizza. Before she could wrap her arms around his neck Scott was hitting at both their legs.

Laughing they pulled apart looking down at Scott who was red faced and angry.

"Why yous gettin' Mama kiss? My Mama kiss me onwy." Scott roared and Stuart bent down to meet Scott eye to eye.

"You can't share your Mama?" He asked and Joelle took her phone out of her pocket taking a soundless picture of the two.

"Buh...buh..." Scott said, his lower lip sticking out, "She's my Mama. Who is you?"

"I'm Stuart, you see Scott, I like your Mama very much and I'm pretty sure she likes me back."

Scott tilted his head like a puppy, "So 'cuz yous like Mama and Mama likes yous, yous guys kisses?"

"Yeah. Is that okay?" Stuart asked and Scott took a moment but nodded telling them kissing was okay. Joelle swooped down and picked up her son, running a hand through his hair. "Glad we got your approval buddy." She smiled.

After that Shawn and Libby officially met Stuart and the team. Nick and Billy took instantly to Scott, her son playing peek-a-boo with them for the longest time. This was great, she was happy and she had a fighting chance to actually keep her life going in a good direction. It took a lot of trial and error, some sexual harassment, and a great group of friends but she did it.

Things were looking okay.

Two days later Shawn left at eight for the airport. Both her and Scott were a little sad to see him off but he'd stay in touch like always. Joelle let Libby have the day off, telling her to relax which the elderly woman took kindly too but promised to be there for the little guy while she was off at work.

Thankfully Mr. Chetty agreed on giving her enough hours a week to fulfill her job as Google Helpline manager but she could also have time for Scott. It worked out perfectly and as of now she was back at Google, following Nick and Billy out to the Google buses what were taking all the college interns back to their colleges within California. Sadly Stuart was getting on those buses but hey, he'd be back.

The whole team would be back.

"I'm gonna miss you guys!" Joelle frowned hugging both Neha and Yo-Yo who looked sad to part as well.

"I know, but we'll see you full-time in five months. Stanford is not that far anyways. Not to mention we have everyone's numbers." Yo-Yo brought up, Neha holding up her phone proudly. Joelle nodded giving them one last hug before Neha's bus to Stanford was about to leave while Yo-Yo's parents were still waiting.

Waving to them they rushed off, their suitcases trailing behind.

Speaking of behind, arms wrapped around her but she already knew who it was. Mr. Twombly, the asshole who had five minutes before getting on a bus to Berkeley. Turning around Joelle rested her head on his chest, five minutes away from missing him for five months.

"I'm driving down an hour to see you, remember Berkeley is just north of here." Stuart said, kissing her forehead.

Somewhere off in the distance Scott giggled, "Stu and Mama kisses 'cuz they like them."

Nick, Billy, and Lyle laughed meanwhile Joelle looked up and winked at Stuart. He rolled his eyes his hands fiddling with the ends of her hair, and she both knew they looked like co-dependant puppies to everyone else but whatever. Stuart will be back, and she's even going to his graduation which is a day before Neha and Yo-Yo's which they'll be at. After that they'll all be co-workers.

God, that all sounds domestic. Maybe they'll all get just shit faced again at a more appropriate club.

The horn for Berkeley snapped them both out of their thoughts. Stuart leaned down and kissed her, she put everything she had into it pulling away with a whimper. He laughed, promising to come back for sure the weekend of the court date for the custody battle.

Scott came up gripping onto Stuart's leg, blubbering out a goodbye. Joelle laughed as Scott went from sad to happy the moment Stuart swung him around, tossing him up and catching him before saying he'd be back in two weeks for the weekend. The bus honked one more time for the thirty-second warning and Stuart said his goodbyes to Lyle, Nick, and Billy before rushing off to the bus.

"See ya Twombly!" Joelle called and he looked back from the bus doors.

"Later Magby!" He said using her real last name before vanishing.

With a sigh she turned around to see Lyle gone with his girlfriend from the club and Google Marielena. Both Billy and Nick waited for her, nodding they walked down through the campus for a while talking about celebrating with some cold ones when Joelle got an idea.

"You guys up for pizza?" Joelle asked.

Billy and Nick looked at her with same smiles before agreeing.

"Glad you came back Joelle." Nick said.

"We needed you." Billy added.

Joelle smiled, adjusting Scott on her hip, "I'm just glad I had the best team ever."
