Andre shouted something after me, but I was in too much of a hurry to listen. I found a little hole in the door, through which I crawled, leaving this large space. Through there, I got somewhere, from which I could see larger machines being worked on. I had seen them before, but I didn't think about what they were doing. It looked like these machines were being used to create more of those egg-shaped things that I saw back there. But that wasn't what surprised me. The humans working there did. One of them looked like a fat man, wearing an orange costume. He was using a screwdriver on one of these machines. As he worked, another man, also in an orange costume walked past him. And I couldn't believe what I saw then. The costume wasn't the same, but the face was as well. The hair, the nose... humans have always looked alike to me, but only now do I notice how different this one looked from that blond female, and how very much the same he looked from this third human. Cylon copies came to mind. I didn't know what a Cylon was, or what a copy was, but it somehow made sense inside my human head. How terrible. Because of this human head, I suddenly knew things I didn't before, and yet still knew nothing about the things that I knew. I couldn't understand it. Whatever the giant with my head was up to, I certainly hoped he would put an end to all this.
The two flies just finished their experiment with another cat. And as I thought, it failed. Whatever their plan, I should be happy it's nowhere near finished.
"I have an idea." the lab-coat fly said, "We just wait until Magneto arrives."
"How will that help us?" the bigger one wondered.
"If he gives us the space-bugs, we can rebuild them."
"Isn't that what we were going to do anyway?"
"No." was the reply, "We only wanted to reprogram them."
"Then what do you have in mind?"
"We can rebuilt them into remote-controlled bugs." he explained, "This way, we can let those things crawl inside their heads, and bring our subjects to life."
"That can work." the bigger fly agreed, "This way, when we use those same bugs for our own needs, Godfrey won't question their presence."
If only I knew what their plans were, then I would understand what they were saying.
"Problem is, what's taking Magneto so long to get here?"
The bigger fly scratched his... I wouldn't call it a chin, so much as a jaw that opened up in its own strange way. Anyway, he scratched it as he thought about that question.
"You're right." he replied, "He should have been here already."
Wait, they said this Magneto was supposed to collect space-bugs. That was familiar somehow. I knew someone who kept an entire briefcase of bugs. Were they talking about him? But if so, didn't that mean...? I knew it meant something, I just wish I could remember what it was. Something wasn't right, but I didn't know what. The thought was painful, not because it confused me (though that didn't help), but because I knew there was nothing I could do about it.
"We would give you aspirin, but it doesn't work on flies." I looked up as I heard that big fly talk to me.
"I noticed you were suffering headaches." he explained.
"If he were just a lab assistant, we could set him out to look for Magneto." the lab-coated fly said.
"True, but you know what house-flies are like." the bigger one said, "The one you're fused with flew away as soon as you got out. And I haven't seen the fly he's fused with. Have you?"
The lab-coated one shook his head, "Of course if we did change him back, it would interfere with our plans."
Is that what this is about? They want to turn everyone in the world into these fly-people? But then, where do these bugs and those machines fit in?
I thought the space with those egg-shaped machines was big, but now that I am outside the building, I realized just how big the world is. How am I supposed to find anyone out here? As I thought about this, it soon didn't become necessary for me anymore. I saw three people approaching the building. One of them was a man in coat and hat. For some reason I knew his name was Lehnsherr. I didn't know how I knew this, but I also knew there was something about him that I should be careful about. But that didn't matter. With him were two other humans. One was a male with a smaller coat, blue shirt and red scarf. I recognized him as Merlin. The other was female, a bit smaller than the other two, carrying what looked like a tube. Saya. They're both here. Good. I found them. But how do I let them know I'm here? Or that human with my head? I looked at Saya. I didn't know why, but she had that look on her face which I didn't like. It reminded me too much about that eight-legged freak I escaped from before. But Merlin, he somehow reminded me of Andre. He looks nothing like him, but he did have that look that made me trust him. I don't know how else to describe it. As the three came closer to the building, I flew my way to Merlin. I got up to his face, waved my human hand at him, hoping it would draw his attention. Below me, I saw something move. I looked. Merlin was raising his own arm, but it happened with such a speed, it almost looked like he wanted to hit me. In a panic, I flew away, as fast as I could. I didn't care where I ended up, as long as his arm wouldn't hit me. Only when I had landed somewhere did I stop to look. Merlin had already forgotten about me. That was good. But then I noticed something strange. Where exactly had I landed? The ground under me felt soft. There was something familiar about it too. It almost seemed like... like it was made of the same material as my human arm. Before I figured out where I was, something had already grabbed hold of my wing. I flapped my other wing, trying to fly and pull myself free, but it didn't help. I was lifted off my spot, and was suddenly looking Saya straight in her eyes. I didn't know why, but there was more to her than just the fact that she reminded me of that eight-legged freak. I knew she could hurt me, in ways I couldn't fully understand. As I watched her face, I feared that was what she was about to do. She then lowered her hand, throwing me inside something black. I didn't what it was, or where it was. Best I could describe it was a deep dark pit, where some long shiny object was kept. Whatever it was, all I had to do was look up, where there was light. I flew up toward it, but I was too slow. Something was being put on top of the pit. I flew against it with all my might, hoping to push it off, but it was too heavy. How could this human think of her as a friend, when she was this cruel?
