Chapter 9: Somebody who gets it.
When Charlotte woke up, she was no longer in her room in the TARDIS, and her head was banging like a drum. When she tried to get up she noticed her restraints. She felt something wet on her face, just under her eye. It dripped on to her white pants leaving a scarlet stain. Blood. She looked around the room with blurry eyes, before noticing a blonde man.
"NO! You're dead. I watched you die, twice! I'm still not clear on what happened with that whole thing."
"Oh but you see you didn't not really. Time is as your friend would say, can be Wibbly-wobbly. Sometimes things bleed through the cracks." He said, his eye twitching slightly.
"So why am I here and why am I tied up?" she asked.
"Because the thing that the doctor cares about most is his companion." He started laughing insanely before continuing, "I know the powers of the great observant race. So it's best to keep you immobile until I can prove if they are real. Can you hear the drumming, Charlie? Can you hear it?"
"Yes. I have empathy. And sometimes its awful, because I really feel bad for somebody as messed up as you. But yes I hear the drumming. Four beats, just like the time lord heart."
"And the observant," he added.
"Where is the doctor?" she asked, her voice week.
"He should be here soon." He answered her, "I've set the trap, and you are the bait." He started laughing again.
"How do you know what I am?"
"I'm not stupid like the rest of them. And now that I have, you and once I get my own ship instead of this stupid teleport, I can get to Gaea. And start my empire there?"
"Charlie! Where are you?" the doctor screamed, with no answer. He had been looking for her for hours now. "The wrist cuff, of course!" he pulled his sonic screwdriver out of his pocket and aimed it at the controls of the telleport. Lifting up the sonic he blurted, "Yes coordinates!"
He quickly punched them into the TARDIS consol, feeling the ship rumble and shake as it moved through time. Then the TARDIS stilled as it landed. The doctor stepped out of the ship and out to two familiar faces.
"Charlie! Thank god, and you. Why do you have her?"
"To get to Gaea of course. Galifrey is gone. I need a new place to build from the ashes."
"What" the doctor said angrily staring at the master.
"He wants to take Gaea!" Charlotte yelled from her chair, "I'm not sure of his plans but you can't let him do it. I was bait. He has me and the TARDIS he can get in."
"Master you can't do that. We need the Observents watching over us."
"Oh but I can if that means Galifrey will win the war."
"What?" the doctor asked again.
"I will be a hero of Galifrey. I will bring the… what are you doing?"
"Scanning you." The doctor said waving his sonic screwdriver in front of the Master. He checked the readings, "I am so sorry."
"Why?"
"Galifrey is cruel." The doctor said in a mournful voice.
"What do you mean?" the master snapped.
"You aren't really here. They are using you to find a new place. And they believe that they are more important than Gaea. They just want to rehash that battle that ended years ago."
The master stared at the doctor before saying, "They are not using me. I will be crowned for my work here."
"No you will not. You are just a projection from the war. Your body is burning up. Galifrey wants to use you. They have done all of this to you. I am sending you back." With that he hit a button on his sonic screwdriver and the master fizzled away."
"Where am I?" the master asked waking up with a pounding in his head.
"Galifrey." Was the only word said in answer.
"You were going to kill me and commit genocide to possibly get out of a war that we can't survive."
"Yes and you were the one who ruined it." The last thing the master remembered before blacking out, was hitting the ground.
"Here let me get you out of those" the doctor said untying the ropes holding Charlotte to the chair.
"Doctor, can I go back to Gaea?" she asked in a low voice.
"Yes, I mean I am going to really miss you but…"
"no not like that," she cut him off, "I just want to check and make sure that galifrey didn't go through with their plans. And I want to check on my boss Max. His job is to watch galifrey and I think this may have freaked him out. I never knew galifrey would even consider that. We are you predecessors."
"War is awful. Lets leave it at that."
"Well I till see you as a Gaean."
"Glad to be one."
