(Casse's Pov)
The elves I had trained over the past ten years, have started training other elves. While I may have taught them everything they know, I didn't teach them every thing I know. The most promising of my students was Tauriel, a younger slivan elf with dark red hair with lots of skill. She is currently a captain of the guard. She and Legolas have been friends for many years. To this day she is still my favorite student. Every so often I think back to the contest I had with Legolas, I am sorry to say that he is still as cocky and arrogant as ever.
As the princeling and I circled each other I tried to recall the moves he used with his blades during the movies. He almost always used his bow the one that would eventually be given to him by Nana. He struck first. Swinging his twin killing knives in a faint to my left side before spinning and aiming at my right hip. Instead of blocking the blow and using energy that I would need later. I stepped back out of the reach of the weapon. Lunging forward I hit his shoulder with the hilt of my sword. Then used the flat of my blade to knock him to his knees. Hold my sword by his neck I asked, "It is good to be confindent, however it is bad to be cocky. Shall we move to the bow now?" I was glad that I did not sound as though I was out of breath. Replying an affirmative I allowed him to stand and sheathed my blade.
"Quicker Nostariel. Melda keep your blade up, otherwise Nostariel will be able to slip past your guard. Eruraviel every good I will tell your father and uncle that you are improving greatly." My three newest students were sparing against each other, and all came from Lorien just as I did. Eruraviel was the daughter of Haldir's youngest brother. Nostariel was the youngest of the three, and the fastest learner, her father had been Suiadan, and when he had died trying to protect Celebrian, his wife had been heart broken and sailed to the undying lands leaving her daughters in the care of their uncle Vehiron. Melda was the oldest and Nostariel's sister. It had been her choice to come to Mirkwood as the humans around the forest have started calling it. Her sister had followed a year later, but had caught up quickly. "Okay girls that is enough sword practice for today. I want to see how much you have improved with your bows since our last lesson." Despite what everyone thought elves are not gifted archers from the day they are born. Many take decades to master the bow, others are able to master it rather quickly. It really just depends on the elf.
First we shot at a still target from many yards away. We shot at the same time, both arrows hitting the bull's eye. Then we shot again both of us splitting the others arrow down the middle. After agreeing that shooting non moving targets did nothing to prove who was better, we changed to moving targets. Throwing multiply apples and other fruits into the air and shooting them. It was close but I beat the elf by two apples. "I admit it you are my better, and I look forward to possibly learning from you." With that he turned and left my clearing. He hadn't gathered the arrows he shot. So I gathered up all the arrows that were still usable and headed by to Radagast's to ask the wizard I viewed as a uncle like figure on what he thought I should do.
"That is great improvement girls. Your determination has served you well. I will talk to Tuariel and Legolas about maybe having you join the guard for Mirkwood if that is what you wish. Other wise I can always send a message to Haldir."
"I wish to stay here." ,Melda said speaking first.
"I wish to go back to Lorien and join the guard there." ,Eruraviel said. My guess is that she also wishes to learn what she can from her uncle. 'Dear Haldir you have your work cut out for you my friend.' I thought to myself.
"I too wish to return home. I shall pass on what you have taught me. Just as my father taught you." ,Nostariel said. I could tell she wanted to honor her Ada's memory.
"As you wish. It has been my pleasure teaching you. With in the next year I plan to leave Mirkwood. You are my last three students, and I am proud of each of you." I said while speaking into each of their minds one at a time.
"Melda, You have been my student longer then the other two. It is due to the extra lessons you gave the other two that they have almost caught up to your skill. They have learned as much from you as they have from me. If you ever decide to teach others you will be an excellent teacher just like Suiadan."
"Nostariel, a teacher learns from the student just as the student learns from the teacher. Your Ada taught me that. I wish you luck in your teaching. If your students learn half as much from you as you did from me, then they will be every formidable indeed. Your dad would be very proud."
"Eruraviel, once you rejoin your uncle in Lorien show him what you have learned. Have him teach you more. Never quit learning about your weapons. Always remember master can easily be defeated by a move that they do not know."
"Agoreg vae. Na lû e-govaned vîn."
taking my leave of the training field I went to my quarters and gathered my stuff before going to find Tauriel. When I found her it was clear that she had just returned from patrol with some of the newer guard members.
"Mellon nin. It has been too long. How are you? I have a new recruit for you. Melda eldest daughter of my old teacher Suiadan."
"I have faired better. Training some of these recruits who know nothing can be tiring, I have not the slightest notion how you have don't this for ten years."
"Melda could help you break in some of these soft handed nobles. She helped bring my other two students up to her level of skill."
"I will take that into consideration. But tell me why else have you come to recommend her yourself. Normally you usually give the student a scroll."
"As astute as ever. I am leaving Mirkwood. I have come to say farwell. I am on my way to go see Thranduil. Good bye mellon nin. Give my farwell to Legolas and don't let his ego inflate too much now that I will not be around to keep it in check. Na lû e-govaned vîn."
"Na lû e-govaned vîn."
After leaving Tauriel I went to the throne room to ask the elven king for permission to leave. Not that I needed it as the daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn, not to mention that if he ticked me off I could burn him to a crisp. I had almost done just that after he tried to arrange a marriage between me and Legolas, saying that it would unify the two woodland realms. I know it would have but, it also would have given Thranduil power over me and that was not something I wanted. Finishing with I grabbed my stuff from my rooms and headed into the forest on the elven path, leaving the forest that had once been the Greenwood of old.
