Chapter 9: The Voice
It had been 15 minutes since Zander had walked into the back room with Chiron. Since that Kerria had sat down and almost fallen asleep. Carlos was perched on a support beam in the roof. He had tucked his head in his right wing and now his soft snores filled the room. It was peaceful, but something kept bothering her. First the encounter with Nico, and having him call me a monster. Then the voice saying that Zander would betray me… Is there a connection between the two events? Kerria sighed. She was getting nowhere just running the same things over and over in her brain.
Her eyes slowly closed and she finally fell asleep. She opened her eyes in her dream, only to be back in that void where she met that strange man. Except, this time, it was not black… It was a soft white with little grey particles floating around. Then small pictures started to appear around her. Some were like small movies and others were still frames. Kerria walked up to one of the movies, it had a small girl in it. She was just playing in the woods, laughing and throwing rocks. Kerria chucked a bit, this small child was so happy to be there. Then the scene changed, the small child was older now and still in the woods. She was still smiling, still so happy. A small black blur rushed past the corner of the screen, but the small child did not notice. The black bur was back, and was finally came into view. It was a wolf, a big black wolf with golden eyes.
Kerria stared at the wolf, for some reason this scene looked familiar… Kerria shifted her gaze to the small child. She had the same colour hair as Kerria, and she had her hair up in a ponytail. The only difference was that this child had jade green eyes, where on the other hand Kerria had gold eyes. The small child did not notice the black wolf stalking her, she just kept walking along. Within a split second the wolf pounced on the small child. Kerria screamed and held her shoulder. Suddenly a searing pain ripped through her shoulder, she looked at the girl again. She was lying on the ground with blood seeping through her clothes. The child's eyes were open and her beautiful jade eyes had changed. They were now gold.
Kerria shot up out of the couch screaming. Her shoulder still hurt, so she rolled up her sleeve so that she could take a look at it. Still the same old scar, no blood or anything. Carlos flew down and perched on the edge of the couch his eyes were wide with shock. He flicked a wing around her, and it was almost calming.
"Are you ok?" Carlos asked
"I think so… It was just a nightmare…" Kerria responded
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"I rather not. It's just... I … Forget about it. It's not important."
She closed her eyes, Kerria just wanted to cry, but she had to stay strong. That was no dream… That was your forgotten memories… Try to remember Kerria. Why did your mother really abandon you? The voice said. Your back? Did you make me dream that? And who are you? Kerria asked the voice. I'm a friend… I guess you could say that I'm your guardian angel or something like that. The voice answered. Kerria frowned as she tried to remember, then Zander flung himself around the corner and ran to Kerria.
"What's going on? Did Carlos try to hurt you?" Zander said.
"No… It's not that." Kerria turned her head away from Zander.
"Then what was it?"
"A nightmare… It was nothing though."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah…"
Zander pushed Carlos out of the way so that he could try and comfort Kerria. She was shaking out of fear, and she clutched her shoulder like it was wounded badly. Zander wrapped an arm around her and hugged her close. He was surprised to see that she was not crying. Whenever his sister Emily got a nightmare she would ball her eyes out. But no, Kerria was just sitting there. Her expression was that of fear, but no tears fell from her eyes.
"It's ok. Whatever you were dreaming of can't get you now. I'm here for you…" Zander said in a calm voice.
"Thanks Zander…" Kerria said with a sigh.
"Do you want to talk about your dream?" Zander asked.
"Not really…" Kerria said shivering.
"Are you sure? Because I'm here to listen if you want…" Zander said hugging her closer.
"No… I just don't want to talk about it…"
"Well… anyways Chiron says you can go to the Hermes Cabin, until your godly parent claims you."
"Thanks Zander, again."
"I'm here for you ok? So if you need anything just ask."
Zander let go of Kerria so that she could stand up. She turned to walk out of the Big House, and Zander stood up and walked after her. The made their way down the rows of cabins, Kerria looked at all of them in shock. Until she saw the miniature Barbie Doll house, she turned to Zander and gave him a look of disgust. He started to laugh at Kerria's face, which broke her concentration and then she started to laugh as well. Then Zander stopped laughing and tried to hide behind Kerria. Kerria looked down at him, then turned around to see three Barbie dolls walking towards them.
"Well, who do we have here? A lost puppy? Did your master throw you out because of the way you look?" The first Barbie Doll said with a smirk. Kerria's gaze turned from a straight face to scowl.
"Yeah mutt, where's your owner?" The second Barbie Doll said laughing.
"Oh boo who, what happened mutt? Cat got your tongue?" The third Barbie doll asked.
"Clare, stop this." Zander said as he stood up from behind her.
"Huh?" The third and second Barbie Dolls gasped and the first one had a put on a death glare.
"Zander! What are you doing hanging out with this piece of trash?" Clare asked. Kerria fists clenched together.
"This is no 'piece of trash'. This is Kerria Waston, a good friend of mine. So I expect that you treat her with the same respect you give me." Zander said coldly.
"Really? Clare are you going to put up with this?" the second Barbie doll said.
"Of course she's not going to Ashley!" The third Barbie doll said.
"Ashley, Barb just stop talking… Zander how could you?" Clare asked. Her face turned to puppy dog eyes and her bottom lip stuck out.
"What is she talking about Zander?" Kerria whispered.
"I don't know I think she's trying to make you jealous, because I think she thinks that you like me, but I'm not sure…" Zander whispered back. This made Kerria really mad.
"Kerria think it's time to go…" Zander said tugging at her hand.
"Ok." Kerria said turning around and started to walk beside Zander.
Then Zander leaned over and put his mouth close to her ear so that Clare, Barb, and Ashley could not hear what he was going to say.
"Do you want to get her back for trying to make you jealous?" Zander said chuckling a bit.
"Sure. I think she deserves it. What did you have in mind?" Kerria asked narrowing her eyes.
"This." Zander said as he reached over and grabbed her hand. Kerria felt her cheeks get red, her hand jolted by the sudden touch. She could feel the cold stares of Clare and the others as they watched them walking away holding hands. Zander turned slightly and Kerria could see that he was blushing too. He was smiling and looked like he was about to laugh, but before he could laugh, Kerria let out a cute giggle. She was shocked at what she just did, Zander laughed back, covering for her. Then they heard Clare yell angrily at Kerria.
"Dirty little mutt!" Clare yelled. Some gasps came from the campers that were just milling about. Kerria stiffened up and scowled again. Zander squeezed her hand tightly, probably so that she couldn't do anything stupid.
"What did you say?" Kerria said as she turned around. She was smirking now as if this was a challenge of some sorts.
"You heard me. You're a dirty little mutt, and why don't you crawl back to the hole you came out of." Clare said smiling really cockily.
"So you want to go with that? I'm a dirty little mutt?" Kerria said as she started to laugh.
"Yeah. I know you are a mutt, so why don't you go crawling back to your mutt mother, because sweetheart, I don't think you can handle the real world." Clare said holding her hands together. Kerria's head dropped down, she started to shake as well. Zander rushed to her side to see if she was crying, but she wasn't. Her eyes were squeezed shut and her fists were in balls again. Suddenly her head shot back up and her eyes flung open. Her pupils were not round any more, they looked more like slits, and her eyes seemed to rage with a cold, out of control inferno.
Then Kerria slowly walked over to Clare. Zander knew something was going to happen and whatever that was it was not going to be pretty. Kerria stood about an arm's length from Clare, as a low pitch growl came from Kerria's jaws. Clare was just staring at her, one raised eyebrow laced Clare's face. Then out of nowhere, Kerria right fist smashed into Clare's jaw.
Hey my demigod friends!
So I think I have been the biggest jerk because I have not updated this *cough* awful *cough* story so I feel so bad. Hahaha! I think Clare and her lackeys will resurface soo if you liked them they will be back.
Sorry about the long wait
