Volume 3 : A Holy Night Crisis
Life 1 – The Intense Ball Smacking League!-Sort Of
Part 1
"Ooooh! I got it!
"It's up... Issei-kun, finish this!"
"Oooooryaaaaa!"
WHAM
"Hell Yeah!"
CLAP CLAP
I celebrate the point by sharing an high-five with both Akeno-san and Asia.
This was the final point of the 3rd set, meaning we won the game. Rather than won, we crushed them 3-0.
I turn to the other side of the net and give a smug smile to the opposition.
"Hehe... Looks like dinner is on you."
"Guh... I won't lose next time."
Kiba accepts both his defeat and penalty with a weak smile but a disposition of a true sportsman.
"Hum...lucky shot."
Unlike a certain someone, who keeps glaring and sending bitter remarks our way.
If only Buchou managed to accept her defeat like Kiba over there.
Even after changing the format from best out of 3, to best out of 5, she still doesn't seem to admit it.
What a sore loser... Koneko-chan on the other hand-
"Issei-senpai, next time..."
She extends her fist below the net with her trademark emotionless look, though a bit more fired up.
I happily bump my fist with hers and give her a warm smile.
"Yup, I'll take you on as many times as you what!"
This wonderful display of comradely between opponents... what a great kohai I have.
My gaze, and probably the rest's, then turn to Buchou.
"... ...! What?"
She replays to our stares with a confused but slightly irritated shout. Following it, her bitter expression increases.
...I better stop teasing Buchou, before I get myself into trouble.
*Ahem*
After a short silence, Buchou coughed loudly to get our attention.
"S-So that ends today's morning practice for tomorrow's 'Ball Tour'. Everyone get ready for class."
"""""Okay!"""""
Announcing the end of practice, me and Kiba dash to the bathroom on the basement floor to wash away the sweat from morning training.
Almost two weeks have passed since the end of the Riser incident.
The incident where we trained like mad, fought hard but ultimately lost the Rating Game and the engagement ceremony I canceled, after beating up Riser... ... ... though some underhand tactics were used... not that I regret any of it.
And one would think we could get a break... Nope.
Not a even a day after returning to school, they announced another crazy event.
The 'Kuoh Academy 20th Ball Tournament', or just 'Ball Tour' for short.
Apparently, it's one of this schools, most important and 'normal' events. A tournament between classes and clubs, that revolves around several ball related sports.
So far to prepare for it, we've practiced a wide variety of sports like basketball, soccer, baseball and volleyball(which was today's event by the way), the reason for this distortional amount of training being thanks to this tournament unique rule of deciding the sport we'll play after the match ups are done... Which is cool on paper but a major pain in practice.
Having to memorize so many rules and techniques in such a short amount of time was and is one hell of a pain in the ass. Add that to the school work I'm desperately trying to catch up because of the incident, plus the usual daily training, I'm surprised my body hasn't collapsed.
Part 2
"Morning!"
I greet my classmates while making my way towards my seat.
"Ah...H-Hyoudou-kun, good morning."
One of the few who greets me back, does so in a slightly startled tone.
I release a sigh, while sitting down.
Even after nearly two weeks, the atmosphere still feels unnatural.
The Rating Game against Riser, brought on a great number of changes.
Here's change number 1: The way people behave around us. Especially the 2nd year population.
After the game, most of the students started to act a bit more differently. While for the majority of the population that meant looking at us with respect, there a few groups that have become mores... submissive, no careful around us. Almost like they are afraid.
Maybe afraid isn't the best word, rather it's like they don't see us as regular students.
Sure no one that goes to this school can be classified as 'regular', but the way some treat us, it's like we're something transcended to them. Perhaps it's due to the fact that they've saw what we are capable of.
But like I say before, this is only a small part.
For example, the first years in general, see us as the cool and powerful senpais, which is kinda fun and inspiring at the same time.
Then there's also Kiba, whose popularity among the female population rose even further, after witnessing his Demonic Incarnation and more... passionate persona.
Asia's also shared a similar increase, though hers was more around the tamer and magic research clubs, who, even as I sit here monologuing, are trying to recruit her... ... ... Excuse me for a bit.
"Hey, Tamers Club, back off! Asia belongs to the ORC!"
"Ack! It's the lizard hound!"
"It's dragon for you!"
While releasing a war cry, I dash and stand in front of Asia, quickly scare off the scouts.
Damn those guys. Trying to steal our cute Asia.
STARE
Eh?!
When I turn around, I notice my classmates sending me weird side stares.
What's that about?
"Asia, are you okay?"
" Y-Yes... Thank you, Issei-san."
With a relieved expression, Asia thanks me before rejoining her usual chatting group, while I sit down again.
Knowing her, she was probably didn't want to hurt them by shooing them off. As usual, she's way to kind for her own good, though that's one of her good points.
[I'm impressed partner. You looked like a real dragon, just now.]
Oh ... Hey, morning Ddraig. How's the unsealing deal been going?
[It's a work in progress. By my calculations, I'd say the seal is more or less 40% clear.]
40%... Given that it was responsible for not only locking both my mental link with you, but also the Gear's basic functions, not to mention the second liberation... ... It makes me worry what are the other 60% allocated for...
[You tell me. To be able to make this kind of work on one God's most powerful gifts, the author behind this seal really is not one to be trifled with.]
Well enough on the depressing talk... How long until the next break?
[It depends. If you ask Asia to help, then it's up to her skill. If it's just me, I'd say a couple of days. Definitely before the weekend, that is if you don't abuse my power in the mean time.]
You say that as if I'm some kind of trouble magnet.
[Dragon's tend to attract powerful foes to them, and also considering your ridiculous luck, it's not that hard to picture you getting caught in another incident in the near future.]
... ... I have nothing to say, except that I solemnly agree with you.
"Hyoudou Issei! Come on out, right now!"
I turn my gaze towards the door and sigh when I find an angry looking trio of male students.
That was fast.
[I'll leave it in your hands.]
Giving me some half hearted encouragement, Ddraig cuts the mental link between us, as I make my way towards the door.
Along the way, I spy a couple of odd stares among the crowd that had formed near the classroom door.
"What is it now?"
Out of the trio of guys standing with a bold expression in front of me, a bald one steps forward.
"In the name of the official Rias Gremory-sama's fan club, the three of us have come here to challenge you to a duel. Right here, right now!"
Fan club?
I knew the members of the ORC are quite famous around the school, but really a fan club.
That's way too hard core... ..., or so I would've thought if this was the first time I had to deal with this crap.
Continuing from where I left of, here's change number 2: Increase in violent incidents
You'd think that after witnessing us kicking Phenex ass live on whatever kind of format they used, the number of violent incidents would decrease, instead of rising, but no.
On the contrary, after said ass kicking was over, I have become the official sparring partner for most action oriented clubs. And while most of the ORC get's requested as well, none have gotten more practice in than me.
And while facing off against someone in a friendly spar isn't all that bad, those aren't the kinds of requests I get the most.
Far from it, as the ones I'm actually getting range from written death threats to full blow ambushes.
The culprits behind these acts -the fan boys/girls.
Specifically, the members of the 'Rias Gremory's first through third fan clubs', plus the anonymous appreciation groups.
And the reason that drives them- the completely false and highly exaggerated rumors of me and Buchou kissing and doing more *ahem* explicit stuff.
And thusly, not only did I end up getting more challenges but I also gained an top spot on the school's 'Kill with Fire List'.
On a side note, I'd like to also point out that the name of the position is pretty fitting, 'cus those guys already tried everything revolving around fire, be it spells, torches or even flamethrowers-
"...-ou listening to us?!"
"Huh?!"
I'm caught off guard when the bald one gets his face a bit too close for comfort.
Oh crap... I was so caught up on my inner monologue, I totally forgot about them.
Realizing I didn't pay any attention to what he said, the leader(I'll suppose it's him) of the trio proclaims.
"Ignoring us?...Y-You bastard... If that's how you wanna play it, then we won't hold back! Prepare yourself!"
The trio spread out in a pyramid formation, reading themselves for the ensuing battle.
"Take this!"
VOOM
Before I could realize what the hell was happening, the leader fires of a series of magic bullets.
"Woah...- Duck!"
I jump to the side, easily dodging the volley, while also alerting the crowd behind me.
BOM
A small explosion rattles the air behind me, but I can't afford to look away.
"Are you crazy?! This the hallw-!"
Before I get to finish my statement, the one occupying the tip position (which if I remember correctly, belongs to the wrestling club) rapidly charges my way.
The massive built guy connects with a tackle, and easily sends me flying against the wall.
How did I not notice him before...
SMASH
"Guh... "
"HMMMMM!"
GRIP
I slowly peel myself of the wall but unfortunately, I'm unable to avoid getting caught by his iron tight grip.
The sudden crushing sensation is quickly overtaken by the sound of the wind blowing rapidly on my ears and the feeling of my world turning upside down.
Ow no...
CRASH
With surprising flexibility, the gorilla bends backwards and slams me head first into the hard floor, via German suplex.
Shit, this is too much...
My vision's a bit blurry and I can't seem to focus.
[Watch it!]
Before I could react to Ddraig's call, my body suddenly rolls sideways, avoiding the incoming attack.
BREAK
By a slight safety margin, the elbow drop misses it's target. I take a moment to sigh in relief and mentally tank Ddraig, before staring wide-eyed at the impact crater left by the blow.
I know for a fact that all members of the wrestling club are walking tanks, but how the hell is this guys strong enough to smash the marble floor so easily?!
FLASH
The answer immediately presents itself to me.
Attached to his forehead is a gold circle with a red gem on the center.
While he got up, the gem gently lit up and a golden shine washed over him like a skintight invisible vest.
I then look behind him, where another shine had also appeared.
In that location, the final member of the trio is on all fours sweating immensely with a matching circlet off his own.
Judging by the feeling I got from it, it must be a Sacred Gear. Most likely one that empowers someone by deterioration of the user.
Like a physical manifestation of the common phrase 'Double Edged Sword'.
Wait a minute... ...
"Hey! Unauthorized Sacred Gear use it's against the rules, damn it!"
The leader of the trio then responds with great intercity while firing another volley.
"To vanquish a demon such as yourself, we'll use whatever resources at our disposal, regardless of consequences!"
What?...How... I don't understand how these guys' minds work.
Still, Sacred Gear is a bit too unfair, so why don't I even out the odds.
I drop into my now trademark position to dramatically activate my Sacred Gear.
[Oi partner, are you sure? Don't you think that is a bit overkill.]
Who cares, they asked for it.
"Boosted Ge-!"
"Stop!"
FLASH
Before I can finish the call, an unexpected voice interrupts me, followed by a bright electric blue and whitish green flashes.
Hey it's Asia... ... and she has two magic circles beside her... ... and they both have dragon aura... ... ... oh crap...
From the two small magic circles, two small figures around the size of a big cat, leap in my direction.
And from their mouths, sparks of lighting and wind, respectably, shoot forward in my exact direction.
BZZZZ
FUSH
"Aaaaggggghhhhhh!"
Several seconds of excruciating pain later, I fall to the ground covered in smoke and several scratches.
When I get my hands on them...
The silence following the attack, is broken by the sound of footsteps and a couple of light growls reaching in my direction.
"I'm so sorry Issei-san! Please forgive Rassei and Futto please!"
While I want to repay those two little... guys, for this pain, I can't manage to stay mad when Asia gives me her overpowered puppy dog eyes.
I manage to squeeze a smile and not too long after the dragon duo vanishes in a cloud of smoke.
I quickly get up, mentally cursing the two who had just vanished one last time.
Maybe it's because he is partly named after me, or it's just in his nature, but Rassei is just to obedient... that and it seems like whenever he has a chance to hurt me, he goes all out.
Fortunately, that applies to all males, so I'll let it slide.
Futto on the other hand, is just as obedient, if not even more. And while he isn't as powerful as his sibling, he's able to nail all the sweet spots.
Again, he does so only against males.
He's really alike Kiba in that aspect.
But then again, if I have to get mad at someone, it would be that devil.
To order Asia to use force in order to stop me from going on a rampage. That's a cruel plan on Buchou's part. Effective but cruel.
But with the benefit of hindsight, if she hadn't stopped me just now, things could've really gotten out of hand.
Another thing also comes to mind.
How the hell did she get permission to summon her pets on school?!
And speaking of pets-
"-re you listening to us, Hyoudou!"
Yup, just like I thought. The bald leader is still yapping at me, not that I was paying any attention...again.
I quickly scan the surroundings.
Both the gorilla and the Sacred Gear user looked quite drained, more on the latter's part, and their will to fight lowered significantly after Asia's intervention.
Their leader on the other hand, is still screaming absurdities at me.
I never thought I'd say this, but I want to go to class.
Wait a minute... Just what time is it?
I then look around me again, and realize that most, it not all the students that were watching the fight had disappeared. Even Asia was gone.
CHILL
Succumbing to this felling that some disaster is fast approaching, and seeing it as class is about to start I immediately turn around and sprint back to my seat.
While trying to calm myself down, I could still hear the leader banging the door and shouting at me from the other side.
"You coward! Get out right now and accept judgment!"
"Hey man, we better go."
"Yeah, class is about to start."
"Screw class! Justice must be served!"
"Ara ara, those are some bold words, you know."
Ooooh...They are so fucked...
Not a second later after the new feminine voice appears, I could physically feel the will power, anger and courage of the three guys outside plummet to the ground.
"A-a-a-ahh...sensei, we were...just..."
"Shhhh, save your breath. I'm sure you'll need it, ufufu."
"Wha-!"
SPLASH
Before the leader could say anything more, the sound of rapid streaming water and a low sadistic laugh silenced the entire building. The sound of footsteps were the only thing audible for a while.
A few minutes later, there was a knock on the, followed by Umi-sensei entering the room with her trademark kind smile that violently conflicted with the horrors she surely inflicted on those damned souls outside just a while ago.
The rest of classes of the day where all spent in perfect silence, in honor of the three poor bastards who, in spite of deserving some kind of retribution, hitted the bad luck jack pot and won an one hour special session on Umi-sensei's 'punishment room'.
God have mercy on their souls.
Part 3
BING BONG DING DONG
"That will be all for today. You may leave and good luck for tomorrow."
With the ring of the final bell, our English teacher takes his leave after a few warm words.
I let out a tired sigh, stretching my limbs before collecting my stuff and getting up.
By the time I was ready to move out, most of my classmates had already disappeared, either for their clubs or meeting up with their friends.
That reminds me, I also have club activities to attend to. More like a last minute training, but will Kaichou's announcement, that's all we can really do.
Grabbing my bag, I look around for Asia. While I find no sight of her inside, a few stray locks of golden hair by the door catch my attention.
At first I break into a little stroll, but once I'm near the door, I slow down to a walk.
"-s, I understand."
"Good, then I'll see you later, Argento-san."
Once I'm out, I find Asia talking to a senpai. By the looks of it, it seems I arrived right at the end.
I give a simple nod to the senpai, who nods back before disappearing into the crowd.
We stand in silence for a moment, until I decide to break the ice.
"So, club?"
"No, according to the senpai, we have been summoned for work."
"Work?"
That's not on the schedule. Did Buchou arrange something with Kaichou again?
"Y-yes, apparently the ORC has been summoned by the enforcer's club."
"Enforcer? What's that?"
The name sounds familiar, but I just can't seem to remember what the heck it is.
Asia returns my question with an equally puzzled expression.
So that means she has no clue as well.
"Enforcers are officers part of a special police branch, that specifically deals with incidents involving the supernatural."
Kiba, who suddenly appears, clears up our doubts.
"So like an exorcist?"
"Hmm, I guess you could say so. While the work is mostly the same, the way they go at it, and their power chain is completely different."
With a difficult expression, Kiba answers Asia's question.
That's right, I forgot this guy isn't very fond of the church, so I'm sure he has mixed feelings regarding exorcists.
Heck, not too long ago he probably murdered a whole pack.
Whoa, now that I think about it, both me and Kiba, have fought to kill and killed, in the past and we still live a happy normal life like always... well, has normal as we possibly can.
Given that, I think I'm starting to understand the change in attitude towards us.
"Ah, Koneko-chan."
"Yo."
While trying to deal with this revelation, I spy Koneko-chan in the middle of the crowd.
While following Kiba to the destination, we pick up our kohai from the sea of students and walk in direction to the club room.
A few minutes later, we stop in front of big and highly detailed door at the edge of the school building.
Judging from how different this door is from the rest, I'd say this is the location.
Before we could move, Asia asks.
"What about the senpai's?"
"Buchou and Akeno-senpai are sitting this one out."
Hmm, so it's just the underclassman this time... I bet it's some kind of strategy meeting for tomorrow.
Seeing it as there was no need to wait anymore, Kiba knocks on the door, announcing our arrival.
KNOCK KNOCK
"Good afternoon, we're the ORC."
BRUSTLE
DROOM
"A-Ah... ... Yes, we've been expecting you, esteemed ORC members. I'm Murayama, captain of 1st squad of the Enforcer club, pleased to make your acquaintance."
As soon as we open the door, a well organized battalion of about twenty students salute us, with one of them standing up front. Looking at the crowd, I think I recognize some from mine and Asia's class.
Though, I never expected for the enforcers club to be such a well organized one. It's like a true military squadron.
While scratching the back of his head, Kiba says with his trademark refreshed smile.
"Please, can you treat us more normally. It feels weird to called 'esteemed' by a classmate."
"Kyaaaahhhh!"
"Kiba-sama!"
Being hitted point blank, by Kiba's prince charming persona, the previously strict and composed female portion of the platoon, breaks formation with high pitched shrieks and cries.
... ...My ears... ...
"Ahahaha"
Instead of calling them out, Kiba continues to smile, which in turn invokes even more screams.
"So handsome!"
"Please go out with me!"
I exchange a few glances with the rest of the members, who simply shrug their shoulders.
Ahhh...This is going to take a while.
"Oh, excuse me, but is this the enforcer's club?"
At the addition of a new voice, I turn around and meet an odd quartet.
It was composed of a pretty lady in a skimpy grey robe, a busty one dressed in office clothing, a blond delinquent look-a-like and a massive guy, who was like a living incarnation of the fourth Raikage, dressed in plated armour. All of them appear to be about the same age as Umi-sensei, yet they emitted a more wild aura than her.
We stand there looking at the newcomers for a while. They clearly weren't students here, so what does that leaves us with?
"A-A-A-Ahhh... Oh, senpais! You're here!"
Somehow, taking notice of their entrance, Murayama-san speaks up. Realizing the same thing as their leader (I suppose), the shrieking girls shut up, and form up along with their male companions.
"Yo, Mu-chan! Been a while! Ready to go hunting?!"
The pretty lady in the robe greets the captain with much energy and enthusiasm.
Wow, she's a bundle of joy.
We look with confused eyes at the following conversation between Murayama-san and her 'senpais'.
"Oh, that's right... senpais, these are the ORC club members. They'll be helping us today."
The quartet turns to us, and starts scanning us with judging eyes.
"Are you sure they are good? I didn't come here to babysit."
The delinquent asks in a very rude tone.
Before I could retort, one of the students in the formation shouts.
"Better that you, senpai!"
"!"
With an furious look, the delinquent sends a burning hot glare at the brave student that spoke up.
From the side lines, his comrades where silently laughing at his expression.
Serves him right for doubting our value.
"So why did you summon them?"
"I thought that with more people we could cover a larger area, and thus speed the hunt up. So long as it's all right with you?"
The office dressed woman, ponders her words for a moment before declaring while brushing a stray string of hair.
"Okay, I'll approve of this change. Just inform us next time."
The enforcers in the room all let out a small cheer while the rest of us still look confused.
As the non-official spokesperson of the ORC, Kiba asks.
"Excuse me, but what are we going to do exactly?"
Murayama-san's face suddenly lights up in shock, before she quickly recomposes herself.
"That's right, I forgot to mention you guys the plans. Today, we're going out hunting."
"Hunting? Hunting what?"
"Giant saber toothed hell hounds."
Upon revealing the name of the prey, our faces turn a few shades paler.
If I'm imagining it correctly, that I have a feeling that this is going to be a pain, but for some reason, I don't think this is the worst of news.
"Just to make sure how many are we going to hunt?"
Murayama-san starts counting by her fingers what I suppose to be the exact number, stoping after lifting 5 fingers, I guess...
Hm, it's not so bad after a-
"More or less five hundred...ish"
Shit!
Part 4
"ROOOOOAAAARRRRR!"
"Keep it under control!"
"Kyaa! Go away!"
Ah...
While observing the ongoing fight, I release a sigh.
While I'm not one to usually underestimate my opponent, I had a feeling that this 'hunt' wasn't going to be as bad as it sounded.
And turns out I wasn't all that wrong... To put it in simpler terms, they were even weaker than the regular stray devil we usually hunt.
The beast, was very similar to what I imagined it to be. A red wolf the size of a bull with two canines the length of my arm. While it's appearance was freighting, it's attacks were very basic and it's speed and reflexes were only slightly higher than that of a normal wolf.
For those reasons I, Kiba Yuuto, am being uncharacteristically absent minded during a fight.
I watched from afar as the group I was putted in charge of, which was composed of 3 enforcer club members, was currently dispatching their 25th hell hound with relative difficulty.
How relative, well... ...
BANG
CRUSH
"Stay still, damint!"
One of the students shouts in rage, after missing another shot on the speeding hound.
"Ah...Ah...this is too hard!"
Meanwhile another student complains, while running as fast as she can after the beast with an axe on her back.
And finally...
"Stay away!"
The third member was running around in circles, trying to avoid the hound pursing her.
This same scenario as been repeating itself for the past two hours.
One trying to smite it with her axe, one trying to shot it with magic bullets and the third one running away and occasionally hitting it with her sword.
Each and every time, I stay still and observe their attempts at dispatching the beast, only intervening in especially dangerous situations.
THUMP
"Kyahh!"
Just like this one.
The girl which was running away suddenly trips and tumbles onto the hard pavement.
Sensing its opportunity, the hell hound lunges forward, mouth wide open.
Before the wolf could bite into the girl, I snap my fingers and a white magic circle appears between the girl and the beast.
"Driger, fetch."
With a unspirited command, a white tiger jumps out of the circle and rams the hound against a random nearby building.
CRUMBLE
"ROAR!"
Releasing a howl, the hound leaps from the rubble and bites down on Driger. Unfortunately for it, the only thing between its jaws is the yellow armour covering Driger's neck.
"Throw him over!"
Releasing a ferocious roar, the green stripped white tiger vigorously shakes it's neck, hurdling the hound all twenty meters in my direction, in a surprising display of strength.
While the beast roars in surprise, I close my eyes to concentrate.
Taking a deep breath to calm down, I raise my hand, touch the ground and shout-
"Sword Birth!"
CLING
CLANG
GIN
From the asphalt floor, numerous swords of different shapes and sizes sprout like bamboo shoots.
STAB
SCHLICK
SPASH
Unable to change its course, the big dog falls flat on the sword bed of death.
With a grotesque sound, the beast impales itself on the multiple swords, releasing a few pained cries in agony, before succumbing to its injuries.
A minute afterwards, it's severely punctured corpse disperses into a cloud of dark dust, leaving behind the bloodied swords and red stains on the pavement.
I then disperse all the swords, and say to my schoolmates with my trademark refreshed smile that pisses off Ise-kun so much.
"So, I guess were finished here?"
The trio of students nod in silent amazement, while the tiger comes over to my side.
"You did good Driger. Take a rest."
I pat him on the head, which he responds with a gentle growl before disappearing into the white magic circle.
"That was amazing, Kiba–senpai!"
"You were awesome!"
At the start of the long walk back to school, one by one the enforcer club member begin to praise my skills.
I smile warily while trying to shake off the growing feeling of pride at receiving praise after praise from my kohais.
"There, there. You don't need to patronize me so much."
"But it's true! And that tiger, is it your familiar?"
I only nod at the hyperactive kid. Surprisingly, he becomes even more energized after I confirm his guess.
Well, next year they'll have their own familiar hunt, so I'm sure they'll work it out.
Speaking of which, didn't ours got postponed as well. I can't remember.
"Say senpai...Who did you get so strong?"
One of the girls (the one that kept running away), suddenly asks me.
I stay quiet for a while.
While the insane training Buchou and my master had putted me through played a huge roll, I guess the most import, and cliché, thing is-
"-Find something to fight for. Be it love, friends or simply a goal. So long as you have that and train, you'll definitely get stronger."
For some reason, I feel like this is something Ise-kun would usually say.
The trio nods with an understanding expression, before beaming with excitement.
"All right! Then when we get back, we'll train super hard, so that next time we won't burden Kiba-senpai!"
"Yeah!"
I smile at their enthusiasm. Seeing my kohais smile with such joy, gives a peace of mind regarding the future.
...Again, I feel like this would be something Ise-kun would say.
Though I also feel a bit relieved that they didn't ask anything regarding the game. Like Ise-kun, I too had a numerous amount of students, who kept insistingly asking me for explanations and spars.
Just remembering it, is starting to give me an headache.
"Tsk, look at that."
"Oh, impure youth. May the lord show mercy for you."
"..."
A new trio of voices breaks our good mood, with their rude and condescending remarks.
I turn to face them, but immediately regret it.
That's because they were priests. Or more specifically, exorcist.
While they didn't look that much older than me, they radiated a dark and impure aura.
This is something I have realized over the week.
The amount of exorcist in town had severely increased. Was it because of the Riser incident or something completely different, neither I, nor Buchou or even the Kaichou for the matter knows.
All I know is that a gathering of priest in a devil's territory, regardless of the cease-fire treaty, isn't a good sign.
Still, we sure got lucky to crossed paths with some very unholy sons of God.
While trying to forget their remarks and maintaining the upbeat atmosphere, the four of us continued our walk to school.
It was sunset by the time we had finally spotted the school gate, and when the boy was starting to race us to it, something weird happen.
"GUUUAAAHHHH!"
"!"
Out of nowhere, a scream echoes throughout the vicinity.
For a while, we stay silent. On high alert for anything else. Soon after-
"Gyahhh!"
CRUMBLE
Another screen, followed by a loud noise, similar to an avalanche.
While ignoring the alarms roaring within me, I turned around and sprinted in the noises' direction, with my squad following closely behind.
We sprinted through the dim lit streets, cutting corners left and right, all the while paying extra attention to anymore noises.
As the remaining sunlight start to disappear, a light drizzle starts pouring.
I curse the weird turn of the weather, while simultaneously increasing my pace.
It had been well over 5 minutes since we last heard a noise, but I still remember the general direction.
Eventually, we stop on a random road, near the outskirts of town. There was no traffic nor people, though the asphalt had cracks and slash marks, signs of some kind of battle.
We spread out in hopes of finding the source of that horrid scream. At the same time, the drizzle turns into a downpour.
Just as I was about to call it quits-
"AHHH!"
-A scream from one of my kohais alerts me.
I, along with the others, dash to her side.
When we stop near her, one of her club mates asks in an obviously worried tone.
"What's the matter?"
She tries to speak up, but only incoherent shuttering comes out. Slowly, she lifts her hand and points to a junction on the road that lead to a park.
Near the entry was an arm, cut cleanly from the shoulder. A big pool of blood surrounded it.
With an audible glup, I walked to it and stared at the entrance.
As soon as my gaze feel upon it, my eyes widen and I had to fight the urge to vomit.
The presumably peaceful scenery of trees, grass and the occasional wooden bench had been turned to something straight out of a B-rated horror movie.
The trees had been cut and /or blasted to shreds, the green grass was filled with crates and died blood red. Even the benches had met a combined fate of the previous two.
But the worst part was the terrifying displayed corpses, each in their own disfigured way.
Among the most terrible were one crucified to a tree, another turned into a living swish cheese on the grass, one with its head smashed like an egg inside of a crate and finally one hagged with its guts serving as a rope.
"Waaaaaaaa!"
"Guaaahh!"
"... Sob... No... Sob…"
The trio of students that had bravely followed me, break down at the sight, their reactions ranging from ragging despair, to complete disbelief.
Inside me, anger and sadness were swirling violently. While I, and most of the ORC, don't have much problem with the act of ending another's life(no matter how stick that may sound), the amount of gore and disrespect toward the corpse present is just sick.
But once I had a better look at the bodies, some of those emotions faded and were replaced with a morbid feeling of satisfaction.
The reason being that all the corpses were priests.
Guilt and disgust then took over, when I realized the change in my feelings, and so after calling in the police, I steeled my resolve and walked in the corpse's direction to start laying them out on the grass.
While I hated priest in general, I wasn't a monster capable of leaving them like this... At least I didn't want to be.
Following my example, the students one by one, bravely started helping me on my morbid chore.
We first start for the ones laying around on the grass, before moving to ones in a more 'unique' pose.
I choose to get the crucified one first. Now that I look a bit closer, I recognize this one. It's one of trio we crossed paths with.
It's a bit ironic that a priest died crucified, but now's not the time for jokes.
As I reached for one of the screws, I held his hand for better support.
At the same time, my kohai commented.
"That's strange. He's a lot warmer than the others."
I too questioned it. Then when I started pulling the nail holding his left hand in place-
"AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!"
"!"
-the supposed dead body, started to scream his lungs out.
At first we leap away frighten by this response, but once we realize he was alive, I immediately move in to try calm him down.
"Calm down please... ... Tell me what happen?"
Surprisingly, the man calms down and starts explaining in a broken voice.
"W-We had finished patrol and had met up with the rest. Then suddenly he, and before we could ask him anything we heard a gunshot, followed by a white and blue blur. Next thing we knew, my colleagues were down and then he... he...he...no... stop... STOP! GET AWAY!"
The man, who a second ago was somewhat calmly explaining what occurred, starts to panic once more. And as his panic grew, he began to struggle in his still bounded state, resulting in the nails cutting even deeper into his flesh.
I try to calm him down once again, but this time it proves to be fruitless.
"Hey, Hey! Calm down."
"I can't... guys...I'm so sorry... I tried.. ...but t-that thing... It's just way too unfair!"
This time one of the students observing decided to butt in. While looking the man in the eyes she asked him a question, the answer to which I never expected to hear.
"What is that 'unfair thing' you talked about?"
"E-E-E-Excalibur..."
Part 5
DING DONG BING BONG
"All right students, that will be all for today."
In a uncharacteristic uninspired monotone, Umi-sensei finished today's lesson.
As she leaves the classroom, one by one, the students get up from their seats, and in a similar melancholic state, silently leave. No happy skipping, nor bubbly chats with others. If anything, there were just disappointed mumbles and stray angry curses.
Like a robotic toy soldier, the students exited school one by one.
If I had to describe the atmosphere surrounding the school in general, it would be downcast, withdrawn and rebellious.
I too, Hyoudou Issei, felt that way.
Well, when the day you trained for over two weeks(in some cases) get's cancelled by some storm, I too would be like that.
Thanks to said storm, the weather outside was really bad. Like hurricane class winds, heavy rain an occasional lightning strikes.
This was truly a freak turn of the weather. Which somehow only lasted until the last period began!
Like seriously, it's like someone deliberately wanted to prevent the tournament from happening and made it so by using the most extreme way possible!
And I was just so pumped up for this. God damn it all!
GRRRR
[Calm down partner. While I more or less comprehended your anger, try to control yourself, or else...]
Or else what?
"H-humm Issei-san."
Snapping out of my internal monologue, I turn to Asia, who had shyly called out to me.
She too ported a similar sad set of eyes, though hers showed some concern.
"What's the matter Asia?"
"Your desk..."
She meekly points downwards, more exactly, to my deeply gashed desk.
I turn wide eyed at this. While I was ragging inside, not only had I materialized the Booted Gear but I had also dragonified my other arm and made my desk look like the aftermath of a bear attack.
I guess this must've been what Ddraig was talking about. Sometimes I forget, that anger is one of the best dragon motivators around, alongside with treasure and pride.
"Damn, not this again..."
I curse while letting my head fall on top of the desk.
BREAK
... ...
"Do you what to go home?"
"Yeah..."
While awkwardly staring at my now broken desk, I turn to Asia who quickly accepts my over to leave.
While ignoring the odd looks I was gaining from the students still in class, I leave a small note on top of the wreckage, before following after Asia's small frame.
It has been a while since I had last participated in the 'Go-Home' club's activities, but there wasn't much I could do.
With that freakish storm, the Ball Tournament has unsurprisingly canceled(though there were rumors of it being rescheduled to a later date), and has a result, we switched back to regular lessons. But since no one was expecting this turn of events, the teachers spent the entire day reviewing older material, and even threw a surprise quiz to the mix. Hence the more rebellious atmosphere.
Also as part of the decree made by Umi-sensei(who by the way is the temporary director, since the director itself is away), all club activities were also canceled for the day. The reason why, unknown.
And thus because of said decree, both me and Asia were going home way sooner than usual.
On a side note, I couldn't help but shake the strange feeling that this seems a bit like a replay of the familiar hunt event, a few weeks ago.
""We're home.""
More out of habit, than anything else, we announced our return home, upon passing the big mansion-like door.
Surprisingly, we were the first to arrive.
Hmm... ... I wonder what's up with the rest.
Well, with Akeno-san out, I guess the arm will have to wait, but since Asia's here, best make the most out of it.
After struggling with the words, I ask Asia while holding out my left arm.
"H-hey Asia. Do you think you could take a crack at the seal?"
"I'm not confident that I can do much, but sure."
She responds with her trademark angel smile, completely lifting the gloomy atmosphere from school.
We both seat down on the couch, and after materializing the Boosted Gear, I rest my hand over her lap.
As much as I want to feel those marble thighs, I need to focus.
Uff.
FLASH
While I take a deep breath, Asia lightly taps the gem on the back of the hand, and in a emerald flash, several weird looking magic circles pop out of the gem.
Okay, materialization of the seal is complete, now for the hard part.
With a furrowed brow, and tongue cutely sticking out, Asia quietly taps, slides and pinches one of the magic circles.
At the same time, I take another deep breath and focus on trying to keep the seal afloat.
The reason why I'm doing this, is so that Asia can work on the seal faster and more efficiently. How she knows this, beats me.
Just like the whole process of unsealing this damn seal.
It's times like these that make me wonder, where did Asia learn all this?
It had to be after being exiled by the church, so maybe it was that old lady she mentioned.
If so, that old lady is one hell of a monster. She taught Asia how to make barriers and seals better than Akeno-san and Buchou's, not to mention her dragon taming.
Even accounting Asia's pure talent in magic, it's still pretty amazing.
I sure would love to meet this old lady someday.
BOOOONNN
"Wahh!"
"Kyah!"
Suddenly a loud sound akin to an air horn echoes in the room. I open up my eyes and notice that the magic circle had changed from emerald green to bright red.
"One more time."
Following Asia's wish, I take another deep breath, and we repeat the process. And again. And again. And again...
15 times and over one hour later, it happen. Instead of the hair horn like sound, the sound of small bells jingling rang.
With a tired sigh, Asia taps the gem as I open my eyes. A green flash later and all the magic circles disappear.
[Two hours and twenty tries later, another 10% of the seal has been undone. Excellent job number one.]
In an usual turn of events, Ddraig speaks in a voice Asia can hear, causing her to blush in embarrassment.
While I find it cute for him to praise Asia's efforts, I also feel jealous, since he rarely does the same with me.
"So Ddraig, any good news?"
While still on loud speak mode, Ddraig responds.
[If it's a power boost you're hoping for then I'll have to disappoint you... ... Although-]
"What? Did you find something cool?"
[I'm not exactly sure as to what it is. But I can tell you this for sure. There's a foreign object resting in here.]
Foreign object? What do you mean?
[I mean what I said. There's something stored inside the Boosted Gear that isn't originally part of it.]
"You mean like my memories of when the seal was imputed?"
[No. What I'm sensing is definitely an object. Like a divine relic or something along those lines.]
"...Wait, is it what I think it is?"
[What in God's name are thinking?]
"You know, maybe it's my baby."
[While the possibility of it being you baby isn't 0%, I really hope that's it's not it.]
"Tsk. When will you finally appreciate my baby's awesomeness?"
[Listen partner. The problem I have with it, isn't it's abilities, nor power but rather the story behind it.]
"Seeing that way, I can understand a little as to why you don't like it. Though you'd have to admit it. It would be pretty cool it was really it hidden there."
[They do say history has a tendency to repeat itself. Now pardon me, I'm going to bed. That unsealing took a bigger tool on my spirit that I was expecting.]
"Are you going to be okay? Hey, Ddraig!"
[ZZZZZ]
Damn, he's a fast sleeper.
But what he said go me thinking. If it's true, and that thing is still within my possession, things can get really messy at some point.
"Mmm..."
Feeling a light pull on my jacket, I turn to face Asia, who had a curios glow in her eyes.
I more or less know what she's going to ask, but it doesn't hurt to check.
"What's the matter Asia?"
She blushes a little before asking.
"What's the 'baby' you where talking about?"
Knew it! Now how do I answer this. Should I tell her the truth straight out, or just give her a simple hint-no!
With things like this, there's only one thing to do. Be vague.
"...Oh that... I don't what to brag, but let's just say it's something that's is both pretty awesome and has the potential to get the government after my ass if they find out."
She gives me a puzzled look, before politely letting it rest.
It's in situations like this, that I realize how comprehensive Asia is.
"Ara ara ufufu, so our cute Ise-kun is such a dangerous person."
BOING
An unexpected voice, accompanied by an unexpected sensation suddenly freeze me in my tracks.
This voice, no more importantly, this warm and elastic pudding like sensation on the back of my head, it's without a doubt Akeno-san!
Woooh! If the Raiser incident brought any kind of positive change, it's mainly this one.
Akeno-san's passionate ambushes. Be it when I 'accidently' catch her in the bath, or during the dragonification ceremony, Akeno-san's actions have become more offensive and erotic.
Lately there have been even times when she invites me in her room to tutor me, and almost all those times, she finds a way to land an attack against me. Not that I'm complaining or anything.
What's really bothering me is-
"Akeno, no fair! That's cheating!"
PINCH
"Ow Buchou! My checks can't stretch that far!"
-This stereotypical tsun like behavior from Buchou. If it was Koneko-chan I would understand, since most of the times I get whacked by her are justified, but this kind of abuse towards not the provoker but the one on the receiving end is just to unfair.
"Ara ara, jelly Rias is a funny Rias, ufufu!"
"Stupid Akeno!"
Confronted with Akeno-san's teasing, Buchou lets me go and storms off into a different division.
...I think it's best if I give her a minute or two.
"Ufufu, truly jelly Rias is a funny Rias."
I don't know if I can agree with you, but I must admit that Buchou looks cute during these tsun acts... Not that I'll say it out loud. For now I'll just enjoy the show.
And speaking of enjoyment-
"Akeno-san. The arm."
I turn to my senpai and ask in a very shy tone.
She looks at me with shock for a moment, before putting on a very devious smile.
While still staring passionate at, she comes closer and whispers in my ear.
"Tonight at the indoor pool. Right before bed I'll take care of that... and much more if you'd like."
More?! If I'd Like?!
I never knew Japanese could be used to this extent. I'm starting to think that this arm is more of a blessing than a curse!
While these wild though ran thought my head, I failed to register the suspicious look Asia gave me.
It was even later, almost by dinner time, that another surprise took place.
KNOCK KNOCK
While I was putting the finishing touches on tonight's dinner, I hear a loud knock on the front door.
Moments later, I hear a familiar voice. It's Koneko-chan.
Turning the stove off, I entered the living room, where she was sitting down on the couch with a sad and worried expression.
"What's the matter?"
"Kiba-senpai is missing..."
I had to focus very well to catch that barely audible statement.
"Kiba is what?!"
While I was caught in all this confusion, Buchou and the rest of the girls entered the room.
Upon seeing Koneko-chan, Buchou runs to hug her, following it with a melancholic sigh.
"So I take it you didn't find Yuuto?"
Koneko-chan simply nods, the sadness in her expression increasing bit by bit.
While both me and Asia shared a quizzical look, Akeno-san spoke up.
"That's right, you guy's still don't know."
"What happen to Kiba-san?"
"After school was over, Kiba-kun came to the clubroom to ask Buchou permission to abandon the club for a while. When Rias asked him the motive, he just frowned, turned around and ran off."
Akeno-san's explanation leaves me even more confused. I know for a fact that Kiba was the one that found the corpses, but he isn't the kind of guy to act this way because of something like that... At least I think he is.
Maybe it's got something to do with the church. Yeah, that's probably right.
With the kind of luggage he carries, it would be a stretch to say seeing that kind of horrid show, might've pulled some bad strings.
While Buchou and Akeno-san comforted Koneko-chan and Asia respectively, I shook my head to regain my bearings and said.
"Well, I'm sure he's fine, so what do you say we eat dinner?"
All four girls stare at me with a confused. Buchou then asks.
"How can you be so sure about his well being?"
"Simple, we made a promise. Until both of us complete our respective goals, neither one of us will die. That and unlike me, he's a pretty lucky guy most of the time, so I'm sure he'll work something out."
When I finished speaking, all of their expressions gained a warm smile.
"Spoken from experience, huh."
"Did you say something Buchou?"
"Nothing. Now let's eat. I'm curious to know what kind of delicacy we'll be having tonight."
Breaking the ice, Buchou gets up from her seat and calmly makes her way to the kitchen.
One by one, we to followed after her, trying to avoid thinking about what the missing member of our group would be up to.
Later that night, I met with Akeno-san at the pool, like we had arranged.
While this wasn't the first time I've had the dragon sucked straight out of me, since I had maintained the arm dragonified for such a long time, Akeno-san took special care in the ceremony. And by extra care, I mean she was more daring and seductive than usual.
As always, I was surprised by both her skill and boldness.
It truly was something otherworldly... ...The same could be applied to the punishment Asia gave me after catching me on top of Akeno-san with only a towel and a kimono, respectively, protecting our dignity.
In my defense I proclaimed that I had slipped on a piece of cloth when trying to get up, but my left handed marshmallow grappling proved otherwise.
I mentally kept repeating that the punishment far outweigh the crime, since I never expected to be condemned to sleep alone on the hard wooden floor of the library in the 3rd underground floor for the night.
It seems that my sweet Asia is learning how to keep me in line like Buchou. And the bad part is that she's starting to get the hang of it.
Forgotten Revenge
... ... Rain ... ...
As I walk down some random street, it started to rain.
Not in an heavy downpour, nor a small drizzle. Just a normal rain. Completely different from this morning's the weather .
Yet, just like yesterday, it's raining.
And just like that day, it's raining... ... no... that's not right... on that day, it wasn't raining.
It was just snowing...
As I, Kiba Yuuto, walked down this road, I started to think about the past.
A past I had somehow forgotten, but never moved past.
I wonder how I've managed to forget it for so long... No, I never truly forgot about it.
I've been blessed with a much happiness, having been able to live the past 5 years with relative peace and prosperity. But because of that I pushed all those terrible memories to a corner.
I'm such a jerk. To forget that pain and grudges I bore, and live a happy carefree life.
But I don't regret it, this life style, nor the events which I've experienced until now... ...Not at all.
But now I have a grudge to settle. And once I do it, I'll be able to truly let go of all this pain and suffering.
While thinking about this, I continued walking down the road.
It was almost night time in Kuoh town. About an hour since I ran off the ORC clubroom.
I have a feeling I'll be in deep trouble once I get back, but I can't seem to care.
The only thing on my mind right now is ending this task-
SPLASH
"!"
Suddenly a sound different to that of falling rain reverberates.
I turn around and suddenly anger ignites inside.
A priest.
Without making eye contact, I walk past the man and continue down the road.
"Hey you."
-Or at least that was the point.
Ignoring the man, I continue walking.
"Hey, stop!"
The man takes several footsteps in my direction, to which I respond by increasing the distance between us.
At some point, the priest speeds up and starts running behind me. I too step it up. At this instant the rain turned into a downpour.
SPLASH
SPALSH
SPLASH
Each of our footsteps echoed in the dark empty street.
With each passing minute, both of us continued to increase our speed.
If not for the anger and frustration that was increasing with me, I might've enjoyed this little run.
I continued to run down the road, then took several detours through alleys and fences, while trying to lose the bastard.
And after clearing a rather tall wall, I really thought that he had finally quit.
I took a deep breath while evaluating my surroundings.
By the looks of it, I was just a few kilometers away from the ORC residence.
Maybe I'll continue my search tomorrow.
While I find it a bit disrespecting to postpone this, I know that I shouldn't push Buchou's patience.
God knows what she's able to do.
Opting for the return, I turned around and started the long walk home.
"Stop!"
-Or at least that was what I had in mind.
The priest that had been following me, somehow had catch up.
Persistent bastard, doesn't he have better things to do.
Deciding it was best to confront, rather than continue to avoid him, I faced him head on.
"What do you what with me?"
With a determined expression, he silently reaches for his breast pocket and grabs a large piece of paper.
He then throws the piece at me. When I try to grab it, a white light blinds me.
"Damn."
GIN
Taking a step back from the light, I create a demonic sword and take a stance.
"Wait, don't attack."
When the light dies down, the priest immediately lifts his hands in surrender.
Wait a sec... I know this guy.
"You're the one from yesterday..."
"Father Antonio Gaspacho, captain of the 12th Exorcist Squad. I spoke with you yesterday, after the... incident."
The man responds with an heavy accented Italian. While my Italian isn't perfect, it's still enough to hold a simple conversation. Yesterday's talk serves as a great example.
"What do you want,... father?"
While looking to my previous location he begins.
"There's something I wanted to ask but never got the chance. Do you know this man?"
Following his line of sight, I stare at the figure of light shell-shocked.
While the 3D module of the fat priest formed by the light wasn't all that great, there was no way I could forget the person it was showing.
"Valper Galilei..."
I spit out that name with much venom and hate, something the priest didn't miss.
"I see your familiar with the man."
The priest says with a pity while making the image disappear.
"Why did you show me this. Is it related to the increase in priests in this town?"
"I can't tell you the details, but for what you did yesterday, I'll share this information with you. Valper Galilei, the Genocide Archbishop has been sighted in this town."
HEARTBEAT
...
...
Seriously. I'm completely baffled by these news.
The man I was looking for... the source of all this hate and my primary target is in this town.
It all seems a bit too good to be true.
While feeling uncertain, I asked again.
"Are you sure?"
"100% positive."
I don't fully trust this man's word, but I have a feeling he isn't lying.
And even if he is, just knowing that that bastard is still alive, puts me more at rest.
I bow and thank the priest before turning around and start walking the opposite direction to the residence.
A whirlpool of emotions wash over me, and at first I'm tempted to turn back and go to bed, but the idea of fulfilling my goal makes all seem worthless in comparison.
I don't know how long it'll take, but I'm going to find him... and kill him.
While walking in the downpour, revenge began to take over.
All the past memories, pain and suffering resurfaced once again, igniting the fire of vengeance within me.
Just you wait... Valper Galil-
"LOOK OUT!"
"Eh?"
SCHLICK
Before I could react, I feel a strong push that makes me fall on the sidewalk.
When I get up to stare at the pusher, I gasp again.
Standing where I previously was, where not one, but two priests. The difference between them being the fact that one had been impaled.
DRIP
DRIP
The sound of something dripping while low compared to the one made by the falling rain, became clear to me.
I stare in shock to father Antonio, who simply smiles at me.
"Live..."
With those last words in his very crappy Japanese, the man falls down to the ground.
Sadness crosses my heart for a moment, but I then switch immediately to combat mode.
Along with the switch, I realized something.
I know the killer. And man, did I wish I didn't.
"Yohohohoho, how's it been going you devil-wanabe. Miss me?"
I spit out his name, anger burning in my eyes.
"Freed Sellzen. What are you doing here!"
"Oh feisty. What's the matter? You Aren't you happy for meeting me after such a long time?"
"I don't have time for you or your games, so get lost."
"Funny you speak of games, I came up with a new cool game yesterday. It's called, 'Kill the Priest'. Wanna try?"
"Wait. Then yesterday-"
With a creeping feeling of disgust, I ask Freed.
Once I'm done, his mad expression, distorts into one of extreme happiness, evidenced by his ear to ear grin, and exhilarated speech.
"Ahhh, yesterday... Yesterday I was in one hell of a streak. A true MLG evening that one was. I even banged a fallen angel bitch, as a bonus later on, imagine that!"
Is it me, or his he even more crazy than last time. I seriously can't tell.
Seeing it as he isn't going to call down anytime soon, I create a new demonic sword.
"That game of yours. I'll give it a shot."
I drop into a basic stance. If he's the same as last time, then this isn't going to take much time.
"Look at you, all pumped up for my game. Love it! So how about I repay you by showing my all new, grade A devil cutting toy, Excalibur-chan!"
While he too drops into the same mad stance from last time, he draws a long kris surrounded in strange whitish aura.
"!"
That aura... That extremely pure and holy aura, than can kill a regular devil with a single stroke.
"Excalibur!"
FUSH
Unable to contain my anger, I dash forward, sword raised.
"Eh! Already?"
Unable to correct his stance, Freed hastily tries to block my slash.
But he's full openings, like this one!
SLASH
In a instant, I switch my attacks angle and slice Freed diagonally across the chest.
"Huh?"
As soon as the attack meets it's mark, I get a strange feeling.
No resistance whatsoever... What kind of trick is that.
CHILL
Before I could react, my body automatically takes a big step back. A moment later-
SLAM
Freed's sword impales itself on the spot I previously was.
I stare at him incredulously, as he picks up the sword and sticks his tongue out.
"I forgot to tell you shitty prince, but this Excalibur is Excalibur Rapidly. Ring any bells?"
Rapidly? If I remember correctly, that one gives enhanced speed and flexibility.
Damn, out of all available, it had to be the one I can't deal without Devil Equipping.
What do I do? Fall back? No, that's not an option! Then, do I Devil Equip? No, he'll get me before I transform.
I guess I'll just defend and wait for a chance to attack.
As I assume my stance again, Freed smiles madly at me again.
"Oho, how did you evade that?! Those are some crazy reflexes... Ummm, yes I've decided. I'm going to kill you. Even if aren't a devil, a good slice from this baby and your dead!"
Ignoring the man's mad laughter, I take a deep breath to focus.
Seeing it as I wasn't taking the initiative anymore, Freed drops into a stance as well.
"So that silence means I get to attack? Okay!"
VUSH
Freed shouts with an ecstatic tone, as he dashes straight at me.
I try to follow his form, but he's moving so fast several after images appear.
So that's how I missed that first shot.
While circling around me, Freed(from wherever he is) shouts.
"Ready or not, here I go, shit princ-"
RING RING
The strange and uncomfortably loud sound of a pipe organ, suddenly resounds through the area.
At the same time, I notice Freed jumping back to his original position, with an annoyed expression.
"Oh for fucks sake! Excuse me for a second."
Freed casually pulls out a cell phone from his breast pocket.
"Hello, Freed speaking."
His expression turns serious as he listens to the person on the other side of the phone.
I stand there shocked at the development. Who knew Freed could be polite when answering the phone.
"What? Are you serious? Fine, I'll go. *Beep* Fucking old bespectacled piece of shit. Ruining my fun time."
After politely ending the call, Freed reverts back to his usual swearing persona.
He then stores the phone away and says to me with his usual mad expression.
"Well it's been fun, but I have to go. See ya bitch!"
"Wait!"
FLASH
Before I could get to him, a bright white flash suddenly blinds me.
When it finally dies down and I'm able to see again, he was long gone.
...
"SHIT!"
I fall to my knees and punch the concrete floor. Fresh blood spills from my knuckles but I was to angry to bother with the pain.
Bastard got away. Damn him!
But still, at least now I know that I didn't misheard anything.
Not only Excalibur, but Valper are here. Soon my vengeance, my past, my friends... soon I'm going to put an end to all of that.
Picking myself up from the ground, I begging to long road back to the dorm.
By the time I'm back, it was already past eleven. The house was dark and silent.
I quietly took a bath and went to bed.
Before I feel asleep, thoughts on how to face everyone tomorrow and my vengeance began to play in my head, like a miniature TV drama.
By the time I feel asleep I was certain about two things:
1) By the end of this week, both Valper and my vengeance will be put to rest;
2) Tomorrow morning is going to be a pain;
And that's a wrap.
Hey everyone, Shu666 here. Sorry for the even later update. Seems like me and that 'one update per month' were never really meat for each other. A moment of silence as we mourn for its passing.
... ... ... ...
So, after this rather strange part, onto the chapter.
Volume 3 finally begins... Man did it take a long time to get this far.
If speaking of it in a whole, this volume will be another point where this distinguishes itself from canon. What changes will they be, wait for the next chapter, since this one, just like all chapter number 1, is simply me laying out the ground work for the rest of the volume.
That means it's also the one chapter where I have the most difficulties with. These day to day chapters. That and the perverted parts which are DxD's trademark.
But still enough talking about that, let's move onto the chapter itself.
This one, like I previously said, as been a real toughie for me. Partly the reason being I kept changing things back and forth, always feeling dissatisfied with one detail or another.
Even now after writing it, I feel it's not as good as I'd want it, but it's close enough.
I also hope that last Kiba part doesn't sound too forced. I mean, it probably is a bit to emo than it should be. Since it was the part I struggled the most, it seems to also be the most rushed.
I also wanted your feedback on the POV switch for this chapter. I know I used it before, but seeing it as I'm going to increase the frequency of this switches from here on out, especially for this one, I'd like to know from another perspective, if the changes in character feel natural (like Kiba sounds like Kiba and Issei sounds like Issei).
So with that, I'll think I'll stop this afterword about here, until next time!
Shu666 Over and O- Wait!
I forgot to mention one last thing regarding the next chapter. The addition of a new, OC character to the mix, that will be the important of a future arc as well as in the romance.
Now, truly with that over, until next time!
Shu666 Over and Out.
