AN: Hi everyone! As promised, it's another Sunday and here's the next chapter.
I know a few of you are like "Where's NALU?"
Do not worry, I am saving NALU for something :D
Anyway, I wanted to keep my promise of posting a new chapter every Sunday so this is unedited. Literally just typed and now it's here lol :D but I hope you all still enjoy it.
Here it is, the big reveal! Sorta. :D
(Luna)
Luna went straight to the Guild hall after speaking to Lucy and Natsu to look for Master Makarov and asked for permission to speak tonight. Not that it mattered, she would still speak tonight no matter what but it helped to have his blessing. She didn't make decisions on her own ever, she never truly got the chance, so she wanted to make sure that what she was about to do was alright.
To her astonishment, her aunt Lisanna was tending the bar. When she asked about Mirajane, Lisanna only shrugged but mentioned that she assumed that her sister is looking for Laxus after their conversation earlier on.
She wanted to inquire why Laxus wasn't in Fairy Tail to begin with but she also wanted to stick to her priorities and simply asked to meet Makarov. When she got into his office, the old man smiled at her and asked her to take a seat. However, Luna kept standing and told the old man about her mission, about Andre and Keres, about her parents, and about her powers.
"My dear, so the rumors are correct, you are Lucy's daughter. Not that it wasn't obvious from the start, you look just like her. I can't say that I am very surprised about Natsu being your father either, though I've always thought him and Lisanna would get togeth – "
"Is this really important right now?" Luna did not want to be rude but she knew about her father and Lisanna. Though she knew her father only loved her mother, this kind of talk always made her uncomfortable. Sensing this, Makarov coughed to clear his throat and commented how Luna was correct.
"Then, show me what kind of magic you do and just how powerful it is that you are at risk of being kidnapped."
Luna nodded and without speaking, summoned her dragon Ryu. She could summon up to five dragons now but she judged that one dragon was enough in the enclosed room.
Ryu went straight for an attack at Makarov but Luna stopped him, explaining that she wanted to simply show her abilities to the master. Ryu departed upon hearing this and wished Luna a nice day.
"That was Ryu. He's only one of them, there's a total of ten and I can now summon five at a time." Luna explained.
Makarov was clearly surprised. A dragon has not been seen for years and Natsu has been searching for even a minor dragon for a long time just to get a lead on Igneel. This thought prompted the old master to ask about the said dragon and Luna explained that Igneel has been found. She did not expand on anymore. She has tried to sign a contract with Igneel but she couldn't remember how it went down. Judging by how she couldn't feel an extra dragon inside of her, she assumed that she did not succeed.
"Dragons," Luna started to speak, "Are very special beings. They are the strongest specie out there. A wizard is stronger than someone who does not use magic. If a wizard was able to summon dragons at will, it is said that he/she is very powerful."
"It is said that such being is a legend." Makarov said simply.
"So I have heard. This is why I was under such extreme protection for the longest time. Until master allowed me to go on this mission."
"And you must hate how the others try to confine you. You are after all those two people's child."
"In a way I did, because if I am so strong why would they need to protect me anyway." Luna opened up.
"You know," Makarov started, "Your father will protect even Igneel if Igneel was in trouble. Never mind the fact that Igneel is hundred times stronger than him. Sometimes people just do things for you that you rather they don't do because it's the only way they can express their love."
Luna smiled and nodded to Makarov, "thanks, I know that now." Luna thought back at her days in past Magnolia and thought of how close she has gotten with her parents. Internally, she promised herself that when she gets back home, she would talk to her parents and work it out that both their sides win and hopefully live happily and peacefully as they are now.
On the other side, Makarov thought of how he kicked Laxus out of Fairy Tail and wondered if he too has been too strict on him, wanting him to realize on his own the love he had for his comrades. But he smiled at the thought because he knew within him that his grandson would one day come back to Fairy Tail.
(Grant and Jer)
"And let me guess, you blanked out while fighting her." Jer said, trying his best not to make Grant feel any worse than he already did. Jer is failing quite miserably at it.
"I failed my mission is what you are trying to say" Grant replied without even looking at Jer. He tried his best to keep his attention in the water.
"I'm not saying that. Luna is still alive and is still part of Fairy Tail. That was the mission Master Laxus gave you and basing it from that you haven't failed yet."
Grant didn't respond. He knows his assignment very well and it's true that he technically hasn't failed, at least not yet.
"As for your personal mission of wanting to constantly protect Luna, well, only you can judge if you have failed or not." Jer continued when Grant failed to reply.
"Jer," Grant started to speak after a long pause, "if hypothetically you have the ability to judge if I failed at protecting her or not, would you say that I did?"
Jer thought long and hard for his answer, trying to find the best words to spurt out.
"No." Jer said simply and Grant awaited an explanation but Jer was still thinking of how to explain his thoughts properly.
When it was clear to Grant that he would receive no explanation unless he asked, he quickly inquired.
"As for protecting Luna, you have always protected her like a knight in shining armor."
"A knight in shining armor? Really, Jer? You're going to turn this situation into a fairytale?"
"Well, our guild is called Fairy Tail after –"
"Just keep going…"
"Tsk." Jer clearly losing a bit of his patience at Grant "I am trying to help you here, ice boy!"
"I know, so just keep going!" Grant encouraged.
"Okay, as I was saying, you keep protecting her like a knight as if she's some sort of damsel in distress, so as far as protecting her I don't think you failed."
"But?" Grant asked knowing that there is a 'but' in there somewhere.
"But did it ever occur to you that maybe she didn't want to be protected?"
Admittedly, it never occurred to Grant and his silence served as a confirmation to Jer.
"Luna," Jer started, gaining the attention of Grant once more. "Luna wants to be an important member of the team. She may not speak often of it but you should be able to understand just by her actions."
"What do you mean?"
"People want to protect her and she lets everyone do that but if she really wanted to be protected, then she would just sit around and wait for others to fight for her."
This was what Jer admired most of Luna. He continued speaking, hoping not to lose the momentum, "but instead, she trains, makes contracts with other dragons, she keeps wanting to become stronger."
Silence dwell in their presence once more. Grant reflected on his rival's words and for once accepted that maybe Jer is actually a sensible person.
"Hmp," Grant broke the silence this time, "listening to you say all that makes me feel that I am no good for Luna after all. It never even occurred to me what she wanted."
"Surely you're not trying to say that I am a better partner for Luna?" Jer tried to tease but when Grant only gave him a sad smile, he knew that it was exactly what Grant meant.
He let out a sharp sigh before speaking again. "You're wrong, you know. It may have occurred to me and not to you but that doesn't mean she'll be better off with me."
"Why is that?"
"You're forgetting I'm simply good at reading people. I don't love Luna the way you love her."
"What?" Grant asked, trying to hide a blush.
"Oh please. I just reminded you that I'm good at reading people and you've already forgotten? You count as a 'people' too."
"Oh." Grant was lost for words.
"Besides, if I get together with Luna a certain violent girl is going to be sad and may even cry and if she cries her father will beat a 'shrimp' like me up."
Grant laughed, knowing full well that he meant Lexy, who has also arrived in the scene.
"Hey guys!" Lexy greeted the two, quite surprised that they weren't being hostile with each other.
The boys greeted her in return and Lexy mentioned that the sun was setting and that they needed to return to the guild hall as word has it that Luna was going to talk about her mission. They were finally close to the guild hall when Jer asked Grant if this was okay to do. He hasn't forgotten that technically, Grant was their leader and he knew that as much as possible Grant wanted to keep the past from knowing the future.
"Am I totally up for it? Not really, I would still much rather not reveal too much incase it screws up the future but this is Luna's mission and it's time we trust her with decisions more, I guess."
Lexy gave Jer a weird look and the two seemed to have a conversation in their heads.
How did you get Grant to say that?
Because I'm good.
The two smiled at Grant and this reassured him that this was the right decision to make.
(Luna)
The guild hall was soon crowded by people and Luna stood on a stage where Gajeel was performing earlier. Some things just don't change, I guess. Luna tried to look for the faces of her teammates. She already knew that Grant probably did not approve of her actions of talking about her mission in great detail but she has decided to at least leave out her powers. The last time she remembers, Grant was in a foul mood after the Keres incident, which was why it surprised her all the more when she spotted him and he gave her an encouraging smile, as if telling her to have the confidence to say what needed to be said. All her teammates were at the back, by the door. Her parents were near the front, they too were smiling at her encouragingly. Gray and Juvia were also present and it wasn't missed to Luna that the two were holding hands. She thought that they must have figured out that they were Grant's parents.
"Uhm, Hello everyone." Luna started to speak. Her voice was shaking and the thought that it must have been clear to everyone that she was extremely nervous made her all the more scared. From the back, Grant gave her a small nod, pushing her to continue. Luna swallowed what seemed to be nothing but she liked to think it was her fear getting drowned away.
"I wanted to speak to everyone about my mission."
The crowd stayed quiet, giving her all their attention, she wished that someone would at least make some sort of noise, but she figured that nobody wanted to waste their time and everyone wanted to get to the bottom of things as soon as possible.
"Andre is someone who wanted to steal something from Fairy Tail, something powerful, that can help him rule the world." Luna tried not to say it was her. If she describes it like this, technically she wouldn't be revealing too much of the future as Grant has feared. "Andre is a dark wizard. He uses fire magic but he can use a bunch of other complicated magic as well. Such as a time portal that is illegal to use. But something much more terrifying is his ability to make another person from his soul. Keres is his creation. Keres is a water sage and a former Fairy Tail member until her identity was discovered as she tried to acquire the one thing Fairy Tail desperately wanted to protect."
She paused quickly for a breath, really hoping to not regret this decision later on.
"Keres was supposed to be dead or at least disappeared after she merged back into Andre's body. All the books we have read and research we have done told us it is only possible to ever create another being from your soul once and that when it is merged back together, you cannot recreate the second being ever again. That is why we kept out the Keres possibility ever since then. Andre attacked Fairy Tail right before I went here and he threatened to go back in time to destroy Fairy Tail of the past unless he gets what he wanted. My mission was to beat him. It is an S-class case even though I am not an S-class mage. It was an urgent matter and we had very limited people at the time. Grant is an S-class mage and is in charge of keeping an eye on me, which ultimately means that he is in charge of defeating Andre too."
Luna finished talking and everyone seems satisfied with her explanation though they are quite curious as to what it is that Fairy Tail have that could lead to a world destruction.
"And when we found out about Keres and the three of us rushed here under the instructions of master." Lexy said to somehow explain the extra three members' presence.
A cry of annoyance and realization was heard from the back as everyone realized that it was Jer.
"What's wrong?" Ren tried to ask his elder.
"I forgot! Master said to contact him the moment we're in the guild. I am in so much trouble, where is that cube projector thingy he gave me?" Jer tried to look for the cube but Gray stood up from where he sat and suggested that the 5 properly introduce themselves to everyone.
Grant was iffy about this request but Gray looked him straight in the eye and told him he demanded it.
"Look Grant, you are basically my age right now so this is a bit weird, but you're still technically my son so I will lecture you whether you like it or not."
Grant prepared himself for the lecture and only nodded at Gray to continue, he's already received a lecture from Jer, he can handle one more.
"I admire what you are trying to do. You don't want to reveal a lot of the future to protect it but if you keep doing this in the expense of the safety of your friends, then there will be no future for you to protect."
Grant smirked, understanding full well what his father meant.
"I mean, I already know who your mother is, so it doesn't really matter to me anymore but I think this is important for your character." Gray continued. Grant wasn't very surprised, he gave away so much of his power that it was impossible for anyone not to know who his mother was.
"You're right." Was all Grant could say before Jer cut him off.
"My name is Jer!" Jer said eagerly. They all knew he wanted to introduce himself since the moment they got there but he wanted to respect his leader's decision and kept mum the entire time. "Jer Fernandez"
"Fernandez?" Juvia asked from where she sat, "We don't have a Fernandez here."
"It's a complicated story because my father was a criminal."
"What?" everyone asked at the same time. Lexy only shook her head at the pathetic introduction Jer was giving. "Well, wait. Uhm" Jer was highly excited for this big reveal that he didn't even give much thought on how to properly introduced himself and asked for a moment to think this through.
To save him from any more embarrassment, Lexy stepped in and introduced herself.
"My name is Lexy Redfox. I'm 19 years old and the second oldest member of the team. If you already couldn't tell by my last name, my father is Gajeel and hence why I'm a dragon slayer."
"She definitely has his intimidating aura" Levy whispered to Lucy as they chuckled together. Nobody really dared to tease as they were scared to feel Gajeel's wrath. Gajeel was only surprised and walked closer to Lexy. "You're telling me this shrimp is my daughter?"
Lexy eyed his father, "I'm 5'6, I'm not a shrimp compared to mom, Levy." Lexy smiled slyly at her father as she said her mother's name. She knew none of their parents are quite dating yet so this revelation event is truly interesting.
Not wanting the guild to get sidetracked once again, Ren started to speak.
"My name is Ren Conbolt. I am 14 years old and I'm a wind dragon slayer." Ren kept his introduction short and hoped that everyone could just put the pieces together and realize that he has the same last name as Romeo and the same magic as Wendy. Though Carla just had to comment.
"So you're Romeo and Wendy's son?" Ren nodded while looking at the round. Soon both Wendy and Romeo stared at the ground as well and blushed feverously. Natsu slightly punched Romeo as he teased the young boy, which prompted everyone else in the guild to tease the younger mages.
"Ok, I think I am ready to reintroduce myself." Jer started to speak but Erza stopped him and spoke for him.
"You are my son, am I correct?" Erza asked the other requip mage. Jer said yes.
"And you're father is Jellal?" Erza asked, though she already knew from his last name and the fact that his father was a criminal.
"Yes. Damn, mom. I wanted to reveal all that on my own." Jer was a bit disappointed that it turned out this way but Erza did give him the chance to explain how it was possible, to which Jer explained that Jellal was hiding using Mystogan's identity. Erza also allowed the boy to show off his requip magic skills as she was curious at how fast Jer could do it, which seemed to fulfill the young boy's ego.
After Jer has impressed everyone, he sat down and Grant took the opportunity to introduce himself next. He didn't even get passed saying his full name before a portal opened in the ceiling and dropped 4 beings to the ground. Everyone dispersed, trying not to get hit by the falling objects. Upon closer examination, he realized that his and Luna's introduction was now unnecessary.
The Fullbusters and Dragneels have arrived.
AN: I know some of you may feel that this is a filler chapter but it is not my intention to do that. I actually think that this is an important chapter as the Prodigy team learn to be more honest with themselves and with others.
Fairy Tail is a family and here you can see Grant and Jer's brother-like relationship. That no matter how much you argue, you can always count on your family to make some sort of sense.
It is also revealed that Luna isn't such a timid young girl. Rather she wants to become stronger. If you think about it, she is much like her mother, not wanting to be bounded by her parents' (father's) rules. You also see her moving her way towards understanding why her parents act the way they do (protective) and this allows her to be able to forgive them and wish to communicate with them better. The same goes for Makarov and Laxus.
And the introduction in the end… well, I think it's time they find out the pairings lol :D
