Mistaken

A dark haired girl was seen running through the pouring rain. She was chasing the impossible; him. She knew, she was wrong when she told him to stop seeing her, that their relationship was no more. But the moment he took a step to turn around, she could not help herself to stop running after him. He acted deaf on her; pretending as if no one was running helplessly behind him while shouting and crying at the same time.

"Sasuke!" She tried, again, again, and again but to no avail.

She never knew it'd be this hard. It would be this hurt. At first, she thought she could handle it, but the reality was the exact opposite. Even from knowing that he understood and decided to stop seeing her was more painful than anything she could think of at the moment.

It was her own fault after all, falling for her best friend's boyfriend. It was common knowledge for the group, that Sakura has been dating with Sasuke already for a year. But it was not her fault that he fell for her too, since their very first encounter, which was five months ago. Since then, their forbidden rendezvous was begin.

The guilty she felt everytime she was with Sakura was too much to handle. Thinking how her best friend would feel greatly betrayed if she knows her best friend has a more-than-friends-relationship with her own boyfriend.

Sasuke had always told her that he should break up with Sakura properly. Not because if somehow Sakura finds out about their relationship, then awkward time coming through, and then they completely become stranger to each other. But with telling her that he could not continue, he did not feel he was the right man for her nor he felt she was the right woman for him.

Every time Sasuke and her went into this topic, she was always the one who refused. She knew how deep Sakura's love for Sasuke was. And she would be the first to know how deeply injured Sakura's heart would become. And she knew she could not take it, seeing her best friend was hurt because her own fault and yet Sakura would not even know.

Sasuke stopped but she did not manage to realize it sooner seeing that she kept running. Running like her life depended on how fast her feet could move.

"What do you want?" Asked the slightly pained looking man. No matter how slight it was, still, it was a rare sight, even for her.

"I-I," no matter how she hoped she would not stutter, she did.

Sasuke averted his gaze from her. "At first you wanted me to go away. And now? You shouted at me as if I'm the one who leaving you."

Didn't he leave her first? Oh right, because she told him to.

A pause. "I want you," she said at last because she could not take it any longer.

Another pregnant silence. "H-hinata," Sasuke breathed, shocked.

Hinata did not care anymore. She did not mind if someone would tell her that she was so stupid. Indecisive. Selfish. Yes, she was selfish. And she did not know what had shoved her to kiss him because she did. She kissed him as if it was the first time, the first time that right. It was as if their kisses before were not right to be done but now.

Sasuke broke the kiss first gently. His hands awkwardly rested on her delicate shoulders. "You always know," he whispered, "we can't do this."

Swollen rosy lips gaped. Anxiety written on all over Hinata's face. "No," she argued right away. "I've changed my mind. What I know now is..," there was a pause as she solemnly thought the next right words. "I can't take to be without you for the rest of my life."

Sasuke moved his right hand to her cheek gently. His frown lessened as he exhaled. It was not "those are the words that I need to hear" that she heard next, clichè thing anyone would say when in a situation like this. "I know," he told her softly. That was his only answer, and that was even more enough for her than the other longer sentence. His voice was like a comforting velvet around her structure. Hugging her and would not let go—in which she felt content that way.

Sasuke's arms found their way around her petite figure. Hinata rested her cheek on his broad shoulder. And how she missed this contact she had with him at the moment. Because of her thoughtless action they had not meet for some weeks. Trying to be far from him and forget about him at last. It was a miserable failure.

Hinata could feel Sasuke's muscle tensing as he tightened his hold on her. As if telling her he would not let her go ever again. That they should be together like that moment for a long time ahead. She tightened her arms around his torso. Answering him that she too would not let go.

As she opened her eyes that she did not realize was closed before, she knew the next seconds would be the hardest time she would ever encounter in her life.

There stood, a girl dressed in simple peach colored summer dress with a soft pink cardigan hugged her shoulders. Her usually bright emerald eyes stared at them unusually dimly. Her shoulder- length pink hair flew messily and yet beautifully because of the blowing wind.

In a sudden, Hinata's heart was thumping wildly. Her heart should not be like this. She was afraid, afraid from foreign feelings that flowing inside of her veins. Honestly, she did not know what to do. So she did not do anything—just watched. Watched all the blurry images surrounding her until it became completely blank.

She recognized the smell. As she inhaled deeply, sterile air filled her lungs.

It was a common knowledge that Sasuke and Sakura were dating. It was a common knowledge too that she had a weak heart caused by an accident years ago.

So, she'd collapsed yesterday? For the how much time she could not even figure. It was like a habit, every time she has shocking feelings that too much for her heart to handle, she'd collapse. And she hated everytime it happened. She would be not knowing how the world had become without her even if only for an hour or two, a day or two, or as long as the moment she wasn't conscious.

The familiar feeling of not knowing struck her again like a harshly tossed rock on the pit of her stomach.

As if God wanted to answer her disarranged mind, the spotless white door carefully opened. It revealed a person she wanted deeply to see since she opened her eyes for the first time that day. The only person that came to her mind at the first thought. The only person that would make her structure tremble with just a single glance.

"Are you all right?" Voiced the newcomer, dressed in all navy color from head to toe. He wore the navy colored hoodie she'd bought for his latest birthday. Hinata smiled lightly.

She loved when he wore that written with "bring me home" hoodie. It fitted him perfectly and she loved to know that it was from her. She tried to answer him, but caused by the barely unused voice, it came out as a croak. "I-I-"

With a frown on his pale face, Sasuke took a glass of water from the nightstand next to her bed. "You need to drink," he said as he handed the glass, "here."

Without question, Hinata took the glass from him and drank audibly. She did not realize she was that thirsty. Handing back the emptied glass to him, she said her thanks.

"So?" With a raised eyebrow, the raven haired man said at last—still holding the glass. The bold black eyes clashed the tender white eyes.

There was no change on the way they stared at each other, his dark eyes that never seemed to stop staring at her differently. Different from when he stared at his companions, or Naruto, or even Sakura. She had not yet to decipher the meaning of his stare. Though she had assumption, she was not bold enough to admit.

If only, his family survived from the murdering years ago, she'd love to observe how he stared at his family. His father, his cousins, his brother, his mother. He always said to her that she was a resemblance of his mother, in more than one way.

As much as she wanted to just be honest, she could not. She wanted to tell him that her head ached so much, or how she did not think she could walk at the moment. But how could she if only with this single visit from him had made her next words that escaped her lips were not a lie at all. "I'm fine."

She could see Sasuke exhaled lightly before he replied. "I'm glad."

Hinata could only hope it would stay that way for the both of them. There would only "i'm fine" and "i'm glad" that come out from their lips repeatedly. If only, her hope was not that naive.

And she could not help not to inquire Sasuke about Sakura. She surely had messed up things so much that she was afraid she could not fix. In a sudden, flow of tears threatened to escape.

"How about her?" She asked lowly.

Sasuke stared at her for a long time. Long enough to make her tears succeeded to escape. Her faintly sobs only to break into broken cries when Sasuke only shook his head as he felt being defeated.

God, what had she done?
