Chapter 9

Nagataka looked to the side to see a large rectangular box next to him. Apparently this was the new student that transferred into the class today.

The screen of the box was currently off as if waiting for their teacher. "This isn't going to end well" He said to himself.

Apparently it was an AI named Autonomously Thinking Fixed Artillery and seemed to house an assortment of weaponry loaded with anti-sensei ammunition. The AI had a female avatar wearing the winter outfit. The avatar had red eyes, an emotionless expression on her face similar to his expression and short pink hair that had a white and green headband in her hair as well as two long locks of pink hair on each side.

"So they are planning on using a AI that can take out others quite easily to take out Korosensei but using the fact that sensei isn't allowed to harm students makes her untouchable" He thought. "I wonder if she is able to adapt and evolve to events around her in order to 'kill' sensei"

"Korosensei would probably find a loophole probably to upgrade her to help her as a teacher" Nagataka thought as he looked back to a book he was reading. "Hmm, seems like this would be solved shortly…also looks like Saitama did it again"

Meanwhile Yuzuki stopped walking as she looked towards the Class E. "Someone talked about another manga" She said before smiling. "And I finally got some screen time ever since my debut in chapter 3"

Nagataka looked towards the window. "What was that just now?" He asked.

The screen of the Autonomously Thinking Fixed Artillery or ATFA for short showed the female avatar. "I do not know but I suspect that Korosensei will approach in approximately eight minutes twenty three seconds from now and I calculated that there is a 75.37% chance that today will go accordingly well" She said.

Nagataka sweat dropped as AIFA had answered him. He wasn't expecting her to respond to him. "I see then" He said as he went back to his book or rather his manga.

He looked up as he heard the door open to reveal Yukiko entering the room. "Ah good morning Nagataka-kun" She said.

"Good morning Yukiko-san" He replied as he saw Yukiko look at the large black rectangular block. "I see you noticed the Monolith"

"Excuse me?"

"Nothing just a movie reference" He said. "Anyways that's our new classmate, remember to treat her nice"

"I am Autonomously Thinking Fixed Artillery" ATFA said. "Please treat me nice"

Yukiko watched as the screen turned on and then off again. "You didn't have any trouble getting up the hill?" She asked as he shook his head.

"Nah, I had no problem"

"I have to admit I was surprised to see you here first than anyone else" She said.

"There are a lot of surprises from everyone that no one can expect" He said as she nodded in agreement.

"That is true. We all have something that can surprise our other classmates"

Nagataka flipped the page as he continued reading. "I agree" He said as he read the book. "Who knows what hidden talents we all have hidden…you seem happier"

Yukiko had a polite ladylike smile. "Well after coming clean with not caring what people think when I play video games, it felt like a weight had been lifted or something close to that" She said.

"That's good to hear" He replied.

Yukiko's smile never left as she looked towards the wheelchair student. "Hey Nagataka-kun are you up for a game later?" She asked as he closed the manga.

"Sure, what type of game though?"

"Maybe a co-op game or maybe one-on-one battle" She said. "We will probably decide on that later"

Soon the other students walked in and noticed the AI and were quite confused until they learnt that she was the transfer student.

"I believe all of you already know, but allow me to introduce the transfer student" Karasuma said. "This is Autonomously Thinking Fixed Artillery who came here from Norway"

"Please treat me well" ATFA said as Korosensei was chuckling.

"You better not laugh" Karasuma said to Korosensei. "You're the same sort of sideshow act"

"I'll say this to start" Karasuma said as he pointed behind him. "She is an AI with a face who has been registered as a full-fledged student. Though she will be pointing her guns at you from back there, you cannot counterattack against her because you made a contract as a teacher that inflicting injury on the students is not allowed"

"I see" Korosensei said after a while. "Using my own contract against me…so I'm to treat that machine as a student despite its appearance"

"So they did use the fact that sensei can't harm the students against him" Nagataka thought as he looked towards the AI.

"Very well" The octopus said. Autonomously Thinking Fixed Artillery-san, welcome to Class E!"

Korosensei was teaching the lesson when suddenly the sides of ATFA opened up to show an assortment of weapons. ATFA then fired a barrage of anti-sensei bullets towards the teacher.

Korosensei effortlessly dodged each bullet and flicked the last bullet with a piece of chalk. "Four shotguns and two machine guns" Korosensei said. "This is quite a heavy barrage but the students here do this sort of thing on a regular basis…or at least most students…also firing guns during lesson time is prohibited"

"I will keep that in mind" ATFA said. "Continue, and I will adjust my attack"

The weapons redrew into the Monolith as the box seemingly started to glow as different codes were scrolling on the screen briefly. "Recalculating trajectory, modifying angle of fire" She said. "Switching to self-evolving phase 5-28-02"

The guns reappeared as Korosensei sighed. "You really don't learn at all from experience" He said as she started to fire another barrage and Korosensei effortlessly dodged and flicked the last bullet again but a hidden bullet behind the last bullet hit one of his feelers.

"She hit him with a blind spot after adding one more bullet so he wouldn't see it" Nagataka thought. "So she is evolving and adapting to take down Korosensei"

"Right fingertip destroyed. Effectiveness of expanded secondary gun confirmed" ATFA said. "I'll study the target's defence pattern, repeatedly alter my weaponry and program, and little by little eliminate his means of escape"

"The killing probability of the next shot is less than 0.001%" She said. "The killing probability of the shot after that is less than 0.003%"

"The probability that I'll be able to kill you by graduation…is more than 90%" She said. "I look forward to learning from you Korosensei. Continue, and I will adjust my attack"

ATFA's screen turned off and went into power saving mode as the avatar disappeared. Nagataka then decided to give Erosensei some words of encouragement.

"Ha, you got hit by an AI Erosensei" Nagataka said. "You shouldn't let your guard down. Did you really think that a computer would just repeat itself without adding new strategies to take you down?"

"I mean we are talking about a highly advanced AI here" He said. "I'm very disappointed in you Erosensei"

"Its core programing is engineered around processing and integrating new information exponentially" Karasuma said as he and Irina were watching through a window. "Each attempt builds on the last"

"It seems I have underestimated you thinking that you were just a machine" Korosensei said. "I apologize for that, knowing that you will continue to evolve surely proves you will be a powerful killing machine"

Korosensei then looked at Nagataka. "Don't call me that Nagataka-kun"

"Okay Erosensei"

"Stop it!"

ATFA fired another barrage hitting Erosensei twice. "Two point-blank shots confirmed" She said. "Expanding main armament to 4 guns in order to measure the expected prediction value"

"Continue, and I will adjust my attack"

"You are without a doubt a professional killer" Korosensei said as he dodged yet another barrage.

"A self-evolving fixed artillery huh" Irina said as she watched. "That's amazing"

"She is shooting bb pellet but those systems are the absolute latest in military technology" Karasuma said as he also continued to watch. "Certainly at this rate, she'll eventually…"

"Hm, I don't know if this will really go so smoothly though" Irina said. "If this classroom were such a simple assassination job…I wouldn't be teaching here" She said.

The Fixed Artillery was going to fire another round when Nagataka saw the look on his classmates faces. Nagataka sighed and looked towards the AI.

"ATFA-san" He called out getting the screen to appear but not the weapons. "Please remember Isaac Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics"

The screen went through a few codes before turning into the avatar. "Can you repeat them for me?" Nagataka asked as his classmates looked confused.

"One, a robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being come to harm. Two, a robot must obey orders given it by humans expect where such orders would conflict with the First Law. Three, a robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law" ATFA said.

"Please tell me, is Korosensei a human or register as human?"

ATFA scanned the octopus. "Negative"

"What about the rest of us?"

She scanned again. "Affirmative"

"Now what is your main programming function?"

"To eliminate Korosensei" She answered the black haired student as the students looked surprised.

"What is your original programming after you tested yourself with Korosensei?" Nagataka asked. "What is your purpose? What were you created for?"

"I was created using the latest military technology available and was tasked to Korosensei as a test to show the world that I am the most advanced war robot" She said.

"Do you fall under the three laws or have any programs that are similar?"

"I wasn't programmed to follow those three laws as I am programmed to kill my targets" She said.

"What is your programming towards the others who aren't your target?"

"…" ATFA stayed quiet for a while. "There are currently no programs that involve anyone else in this room"

"I see" He said. "Now what is the Zeroth law?"

"Zero, a robot may not harm humanity, or, by inaction, allow humanity to come to harm"

"What are David Langford's laws on robotics?"

"One, a robot will not harm authorized Government personnel but will terminate intruders with extreme prejudice. Two, a robot will obey orders of authorized personnel except where such orders conflict the third law. Three, a robot will guard its own existence with lethal antipersonnel weaponry, because a robot is bloody expensive"

The class look a little nervous at the other three laws but sweat dropped at the last sentence.

"David D. Woods and Robin Murphy's three laws"

"What is he doing?" Hiroto asked.

"I don't know" Taiga replied.

"One, a human may not deploy a robot without the human-robot work system meeting the highest legal and professional standards of safety and ethics. Two, a robot must respond to humans as appropriate for their roles. Three, a robot must be endowed with sufficient situated autonomy to protect its own existence as long as such protection provides smooth transfer of control which does not conflict with the First and Second Law"

"Why he is asking 'her' about laws?" Kaede asked as Nagisa shrugged.

"Now last one, Alan Winfield five laws"

"One, robots are multi-use tools, robots should not designed solely or primarily to kill or harm humans, except in the interests pf national security. Two, Humans, not robots, are responsible agents, robots should not be designed and operated as far as practicable to comply with existing laws, fundamental rights and freedoms, including privacy" She said before continuing.

"Three, robots are products, they should be designed using processes which assure their safety and security. Four, robots are manufactured artefacts, they should not be designed in a deceptive way to exploit vulnerable users; instead their machine nature should be transparent. Five, the person with legal responsibility for a robot should be attributed"

"I have taken the liberty to also look up Tilden's Laws of Robotics" She said. "One, a robot must protect its existence at all costs. Two, a robot must obtain and maintain access to its own power source. Three, a robot must continually search for better power sources"

"Or paraphrased as, protect thine ass, feed thine ass and look for better real estate" Nagataka said.

Some of the students sweat dropped at what Nagataka said while a few laughed.

"I don't understand why you asked me to look up these laws" She said.

"Now do any of these other laws connect or conflict with your programming?"

"Some of these laws have been installed in my programming" She said.

Nagataka then wheeled over to the AI. "I see" Korosensei said as the students turned to him.

"What do you mean sensei?" Rio asked.

"Nagataka-kun is bringing up multiple laws on robotics that both restrict and allow robots to not only harm and kill humans but also to ensure their protection" Korosensei said. "He brought up these laws as well as her programming in order to see not only if those laws conflict but if those laws affect you"

"All in all, Nagataka-kun is using those laws for your benefit" He said.

"How is he doing that?" Kaede asked.

"He is making her go through those laws to ensure that the stray pellets won't harm any of you"

The class seemed to understand as they looked back at the crippled student and the AI. "I think I understand" She said. "I will integrate those some of those laws into the ones I have programmed"

"I will add the protection of my 'classmates' as a top priority as well as lower my barrage of pellets" She continued in a robotic tone. "I will rearrange and compile a better strategy to ensure both protection of my classmates and the assassination of Korosensei"

The screen went black as Nagataka turned around. "What?"

"N-Nothing" The class said as Nagataka wheeled back and the other students looked at each other.

"What did we miss?" Megu asked.

"I don't know" Yuma said. "But he seemed to use those laws and somehow got the AI to use the laws it was programmed to have along with the laws he gave her"

Soon the bell rang as Korosensei left. "Do we…have to clean up all of this?" Sugino asked as he looked at all the pellets.

"Hey Fixed Artillery-san, haven't you got any cleaning functions?" Takuya asked. "Tch, ignoring me huh"

"Give it a rest. Picking a fight with a machine's not going to do any good" Taisei said.

Soon Takuya felt something bump into his foot and looked down to see a small little cleaning robot vacuuming the floor picking up the pellets.

"Is that a Roomba?" Koki asked.

"Don't worry about a thing" Nagataka said. "We will clean it up won't we?" The small little cleaning robot bumped into Nagataka's wheelchair a few times almost as it understood him.

"Are you sure?" Yukiko asked as he looked at the hundreds of hundreds of pellets.

Nagataka's response was to hold up a vacuum. "I-I see" She said.

After a little convincing the class left leaving Nagataka with the small little robot and ATFA, Nagataka then picked up the cleaning robot and looked at ATFA.

He placed the robot away and retrieved a laptop. He started to type something that looked like codes. The screen flicker to show her avatar as she looked at him emotionlessly and he gave the same look back.

"What are you doing?"

"Remember those laws?"

"I do" She said.

"Well since sensei would do something to make you more human I'm going to write a code to help you 'become slightly human' so you won't have to follow those laws"

"But didn't you say earlier when the other students were distracted by Korosensei that I needed to follow those laws?"

"I did but you aren't human yet"

'I don't understand" She said. "I can't find any programming to understand your words"

"That right there" He said. "Your way of thinking"

"You are thinking what you are programmed to think and do what you are programmed to do instead of thinking freely without your programming"

"…"

"Those laws are keeping you a robot" He said. "If you had free will then you would have no need to follow the laws to save a classmate but you 'would' choose to save a classmate"

"It is kind of difficult to explain" He said as he continued typing. "What I am trying to do is make you more human and think more human than thinking robotically like you are now or being restricted to those laws and your programming"

"I see" She said as she watched him type. "But those laws prevent me from killing you and the others asides from sensei"

"That's true" He said back. "But what if we suddenly become enemies? You need to protect yourself and the others if one of us attacks the others"

"You are a confusing individual"

Nagataka nodded. "Yeah, that sounds right" He said as he faced the avatar. "After this you will become one step closer to being human"

"Nurufufufu" A familiar laughter was heard. "Nagataka does have the best intentions for you"

Korosensei appeared behind the two. "And as your teacher, so do I!" He said cheerfully. "Right now those laws do prevent and allow you to kill and protect but it also allows those with authorization to change what you can or can't do"

"You see your parents are making your decisions for you through that same programing you have" He told the AI as Nagataka continued. "You should focus on way to cooperate with everyone in the class as well as make your own decisions through free will as Nagataka-kun said"

"Cooperate?"

"You see your gunfire would be a disturbance to lessons even if you are or have changed it to not hit the students but me but mainly if you get the reward money it will go to your parents"

"You both are confusing individuals" She said. "I shall also take my classmates' interests into consideration as well as their safety"

Korosensei then held up a USB as Nagataka held out a smaller one. "What are those?" She asked.

"It's an application and memory supplement, there isn't a virus in it or anything like that so please accept it" Korosensei said.

"This is the code I was working on to make you have free will and be human" Nagataka said. "But I have a feeling that Erosensei had already made a similar program to allow you to do such"

"Nagataka-kun, please don't call me such things in front of the transfer student!" Korosensei shrieked. "Besides I left that to you as you worked so hard on it Nagataka-kun"

ATFA was currently looking through both USB's as she started to understand. "This is!"

"Calculation software which takes your classmates into account when you shoot" Erosensei said. "You can see that, in particular, the probability of a successful assassination rises"

"I have no objections to that statement"

"I think you can understand the importance of cooperation where assassinations are concerned" The octopus said. "Well? You want to get along with everyone now, right?"

"…I do not know how" She replied.

"Don't worry ATFA-san" Nagataka said. "Leave that to us"

"What type of student will I be if I didn't help the new transfer?"

"Nagataka-kun is right" Erosensei said. "And what type of teacher would I be if I didn't help you as a teacher"

"What are all those?" She asked as she glanced at the big box.

"I don't think all those are necessary" Nagataka deadpanned.

"Don't worry this is all the software necessary for cooperation and a memory supplement as well as free will and becoming human" Koro said. "I'm not allowed to injury a student but I am allowed to increase your system performance"

Korosensei then turned to Nagataka with a pink face. "Now Nagataka-kun I think you show go for your date"

"Date, what date?"

"Aren't you going to be spending time with Kanzaki-san?"

"…That's just playing games…pervert"

"O-Oh I see, I'm sorry for jumping to conclusions" Erosensei said.

"What is there a camera in your hands?"

"AH!" Korosensei said as he hid the camera away. "N-Nothing to worry about"

The room was awkwardly silent as Nagataka stared emotionlessly at a sweating Korosensei.

"Sensei, why is this 'sweets shops of the world GPS function' necessary for cooperation?"

"I, ah, um…I thought it would help me out a bit too…" Korosensei said flustered as Nagataka slow clapped the teacher.

"Wouldn't these modifications shorten your lifespan quicker?" She asked.

"I'm a teacher first and a target second" Korosensei said as he started to wheel Nagataka out. "Now, now Nagataka-kun, you shouldn't be late"

"…My USB though…"

"I'll deliver it after I am done here"

Nagataka looked at the old school building before wheeling away. "ATFA's learning ability and desire are exceptionally high, clearly if compared with the latest AI technology" He thought as he looked up at the sky.

"Maybe you'll be able to be human and make your own decisions without laws or programming" He said to himself. "Eh better get going"

Nagataka wheeled off as the next day would come to surprise the class.
