Chapter 9
Waking up was a startling experience for Tori. She was aware that something was wrong immediately, it was completely silent. Sliding out of her bed she grabbed the sword she'd brought with her and kept between the bed and night stand, she padded across the room and cracked open her door. Trina was in the hallway in a crouched position, looking around as suspiciously as Tori.
Silently they fell into step, walking side-by-side down the stairs. Andre was standing at the foot, baseball bat clutched in his hands. He twisted to look up at them, motioning that it was safe to come down so they did so, sticking to the edges of the stairs and pausing on either side of him, "heard anything?"
"No which is weird. But Jade's up, I heard her chanting downstairs. I think Cat might be with her." Andre whispered, "I don't think anyone is in the house."
"I don't hear anyone inside, but someone might be outside. Its like there's a silent spell around the house or something." Trina replied, "I don't hear cars or birds or anything."
"Let's just go down the stairs." Tori advised, "find Cat and Jade."
Andre nodded, and with Trina leading them, the trio moved down the stairs slowly. Nobody was downstairs, Cat's door was open, there was a glowing light trickling out from beneath Jade's door. Slowly approaching Tori volunteered to go first, twisting the handle and pushing the door open before quickly drilling her shoulder into Trina and knocking her down while Andre jumped aside.
A blue current shot through the air where Tori's head had been and left a smoking black scorch mark on the wall, "Fuck! I'm so sorry." Jade looked flustered and rushed to Tori, gently pulling her up, "something was wrong I couldn't find Cat and then the door opened..."
"What do you mean you couldn't find Cat?"
"I couldn't find her, or any of you, nobody was here." Jade replied, "but you're here, so Cat she's got to be..."
"She's not in her room." Tori replied. Holding her sword out in front of her as she tiptoed into the living room, "Treen, see if you can find her scent or anything." with a scowl Trina handed her sword over to Jade, closed her eyes and slowly circled around the house.
"There's Cat...Beck...Cat, the mesmer, the wolf, and just this void." she followed her nose over to the door, "they grabbed her, I can't tell who or what or where. Whatever the put up to silence the house is blocking everything." Trina reached forward and opened the door stepping out to look around and see why it was silent outside, but was suddenly zapped and flung back across the house, landing in one of the arm chairs and flipping it over.
"What the fuck." she groaned. Andre walked over to help her up just as a set of feet thundered down the steps. Everyone with a weapon turned toward the stairs, Tori's sword raised, Andre's bat poised and Jade falling into a defensive stance, hands raised and ready to fire, the sword clattering at her feet.
"Whoa sex demon and witch girl no need to kill us." rolling their eyes Jade and Tori dropped their stances, turning their backs on Rex and Robbie, "whats going on down here? No breakfast."
"Shut the fuck up, Robbie." Jade snapped angrily, her eyes seemed to glow, "someone put a containment field around the house, we can't get out."
"No. We can't get out." Tori interrupted, gesturing to herself, her sister and Andre, "but you two can, sans puppet. Or maybe Rex can." Tori tipped her head sideways to examine him.
"We're not going to find out." Rex chimed in, somehow managing to glare at them without being able to move his face, "send nerd boy and witch girl."
"To do what? I'd be better off here trying to bring the containment field down." Jade protested glancing at Robbie out of the corner of her eye, "send Robbie."
"I'm not going on my own." Robbie snapped, his hands trembling as he put a distance between himself and Jade.
"Jade you can't take it down and you know that. You and Robbie need to go find Beck and go to the compound. We'll babysit the puppet here." Tori ordered, rubbing the bridge of her nose. She was aggravated and starving, "and go now before I pick you both up and throw you out the damn door."
Rolling her eyes Jade snatched up Trina's sword, which she'd dropped when Robbie came down the stairs, and marched out the door, dragging the reluctant Robbie behind her. Once they were safely in the car Tori went over and shut the door, sinking down on the couch next to Rex with a sideways look at the puppet before turning to her sister, "did you smell anything else?"
"Nothing, I couldn't get a specific scent or even just anything." Trina replied, tipping the chair back onto its legs before sitting down in it. Andre sat down on the couch next to Tori, putting her between him and the puppet, "they must've had someone mighty powerful to help out."
"To put up that kind of a field? You nearly broke that chair."
"Rude." Trina made a sour face, crossing her arms tightly over her chest.
"Treen, anyone slamming into a chair that hard might have broken it." Tori sighed, leaning back against the couch and stretching her arms out behind her until her back popped, until she noticed Rex's plastic eyes leering at the skin showing where here shirt rode up and her shorts inched down. She smacked the back of his head, making the beady eyes roll around before settling again, "maybe when you're a real boy."
"You better keep that promise."
With the most sultry look she could muster Tori bent down to Rex's face, "if by some magic fucking force you escape your tiny puppet shell, I will sleep with you." she tapped his nose and sat back up, twisting her body away from him, "so now that we're having a super amount of fun, what the fuck can we do now?"
"Sit here and wait for Jade to show up with Beck? Or maybe she'll find a coven of witches." Trina joked, glancing at the TV and looking around for a movie to watch.
"Witches don't do covens, Trina." Rex informed, "they get a little bitchy in packs. Kind of like the rest of the Fae. Ya know she's lucky walking through that didn't affect her the way she's got that magic rolling through her veins."
"She'd still test as a human though." Tori shot back, "she's still human just with some magic."
"True, but those containment spells are pretty finicky." Rex replied, "once had a shaman go through one and it didn't want to let his little friend through, bled to death in the doorway."
"Gross, I vote the puppet doesn't speak anymore." Andre raised his hand, turning toward the TV, "why don't we watch TV."
"Yes, why don't you." their heads snapped toward the door. A large man with a shaved head and muscles on his muscles was standing by the door, crushing Jade's upper arm in one meaty hand. His companion held Robbie's arm loosely in her polished hand, "lets go, move it. Succubus, body where I can see it. Hold the puppet."
"I'm not touching him." Tori growled. Jade grimaced in pain as his grip tightened on her arm, "still not touching him."
"Fine, siren, bind her hands." he threw a roll of duct tape inside. Scowling Andre grabbed the duct tape and bound Tori's wrists together, grabbing Rex roughly by the arm and tossing him through the door to Robbie, who somehow managed to catch him. Trina walked beside Tori to make sure she wouldn't land on her face is she got tripped.
They walked down the block to a van, shoved them all roughly into the back seat, and started to drive off, "where are you taking us?" Trina asked, "You could have let us pee, ya know."
"You'll find out when you find out." the woman snapped, her foot pushing down harder on the accelerator.
"I seriously have to wazz."
"Shut. Up." she snarled, curling her fingers tighter around the wheel until her knuckles turned white, "Or I'll kill you."
"Or you can just let me go wazz. There's bound to be a store nearby." she glanced out the windows that were tinted and painted black.
"Shut the fuck up kid."
"Geez, what a grunch." she shuffled around, and bumped Tori painfully into Jade who growled and shoved the girl back into her sisters lap, causing Tori to elbow Trina in the gut, "I have to go now." Trina snarled as her teeth starting to shift into canines and an animalistic growl ripped from her throat that had Tori jumping into Jade's lap to escape her sisters teeth.
"Seriously, let the girl pee before she rips all of our throats out." Jade complained, "she's part dog let her pee on a bush or something."
"All of you shut up before I kill you all." the woman roared, turning around and narrowing her flaming red eyes at the group gathered in her backseat. Trina just snapped at her, teeth clacking roughly together inches from her nose.
"I. Have. To. Pee." Trina repeated, spitting on the woman's face with the ferocity of her words. She growled and slowly applied the breaks, jumping out of the car and dragging Trina by her hair into the tiny mini-mart.
When they came back the woman was sporting a bloody nose and Trina a smug smirk even though the woman's hand was balled tightly in her hair. She threw Trina back into the van, the girl sprawled across Tori, Jade and Andre's laps.
Trina managed to right herself, slamming her palm into Jade's thigh and nearly head butting Tori in the process, and by that time they were flying down the road again, but Trina had a smug smile on her face as she braced her knees against the drivers seat, eyes going unfocused in a way only Tori recognized.
She was mentally mapping where they were heading. Tori fought the smile trying to work its way onto her lips, staring blankly ahead at the huge slab of wood covering the majority of the window, "ya know that can't be legal."
"Great, just as annoying as her sister."
"I think its a healthy side effect from being kidnapped." Tori replied, "but if you wanna blame my genetics go ahead, probably how you barely made it through your dawning. Those eyes are supposed to be green, not red. You almost turned into an underfae."
"I can't wait to kill you."
"Good luck." Tori grinned, resting her back against the seat and crossing legs. Jade smirked, crossing legs and leaning toward Tori, her fingers creeping up to the duct tape binding her wrists. She ran a burning nail across the tape, Tori twisted her wrists so they separated and then she put them back together so it wasn't noticeable.
Jade sighed and tucked into Tori's side, "I'm so scared." she whispered.
"You'll be okay." Tori replied, shifting closer to her Jade twisted her arm through Tori's, her hand starting to glow which crept up Tori's hand.
"Oh no, witch girl, hands of your lezzy fuck buddy." the bald guy reached back and shoved them apart, sending Jade roughly on top of Robbie. And Tori into the window.
"Rude, dickhead." Jade snapped, kicking his arm roughly with her metal tipped boot. He grabbed her ankle and dragged her down so she fell between the front and back seats on top of everyone's feet. Robbie and Andre helped her back up onto the seat and dragged Tori off of the spaced out Trina.
It only took another hour for the car to stop, and everyone was pulled out of the van, Jade being dragged out and dropped onto her knees. Growling she dug her nails into the mans arm and dragged herself onto her feet, leaving bleeding half moons on his arm. Grinning happily she bounced behind Robbie as Tori hopped gracefully out, "aww poor thing." she grinned.
Trina slipped out behind her, hooking an arm across her shoulders and the guy followed them into the building, his companion stomping ahead of him into the building. Andre glanced back at the girls who were acting, well strange, in his opinion. They didn't seem to care that they were being taken hostage, meanwhile all Andre could think of was Cat's absence and the creepy shadow hands.
Inside the house was very different from the one in the dream, which managed to dull his nerves just a bit as they were dragged into the living room of the house, Andre's parents stood in the middle of the room, bickering, but silenced when Tori growled as she was prodded forward roughly, "I told you to bring my son."
"If we tried to take him this one would kill us, Dina" he shoved at Tori, "and we needed this one as bait." he gestured to Jade.
"You're really scared of a school girl." Tori simply smirked, her eyes flashing blue. Dina took a nervous step back.
"Why did you bring me here?" Andre asked anger burning in his stomach, "and where's Cat?"
Dina's eyebrows pulled together, "Cat? Who's that?"
"Red head, about this high." he motioned with his hand, "kidnapped from her damn house before your idiots kidnapped us!" Andre screamed. Tori moved slightly away from him, "now why the hell did you bring us here?"
"To keep you safe." Dina replied, her tone flat and her eyes narrowed, "take them to the basement. And keep that succubus away from my boy. I don't need her corrupting him."
"What do you suggest we do?" the woman asked, grinning maliciously in Tori's direction. Tori gave her the most suggestive look she could muster.
Dina made a disgusted sound, "lock her up in a separate room." the woman grabbed Tori's upper arm in a tight hold and hauled her off while the man herded everyone else in a different direction. Tori managed to tuck and roll onto her back when she was shoved inside, holding her not so confined hands in front of her, glaring at the woman as the door shut and locked.
As soon as she was sure the woman was gone she peeled the tape off of her wrists, crumpling it into a ball and chucking it at the door where it stuck for a few seconds before dropping off and hitting the floor. Tori leaned up against the base of the bed in the room, staring at the door and listening to the sounds of anyone leaving or moving.
An hour later Tori was shaken out of her motionless stupor by the door slamming, and then engines starting. Peeking out the small patch of unpainted window Tori watched every car trundle down the road except for one. "Two guesses who drives the camaro." she muttered, standing up and padding quietly to the door, pushing her ear against it.
She couldn't hear anybody moving around, and it took her very little time to twist the lock and pull the door open, "still can't believe she thought that would keep me in." she tiptoes slowly down the stairs, pausing at the first landing and peeking around, the woman and man from before are sitting downstairs.
She tiptoes back up the stairs and walks down the hall, listening for her friends. It doesn't take too long before she hears them, "Jade seriously you can't pick a lock like that."
"Watch me." Jade growled, "dumb asshole magicking it shut." she grumbled. Tori snorted, walking up to the door and gripping the latch that was smartly outside the door and twisting it, "see I told you." Jade grunted. Standing as she pulled it open, scowling when she spotted Tori on the other side.
"Nice try, teen witch." Rex snarked.
"I will end you." Jade snarled, turning her dagger like glare on him, her eyes glowing purple.
"Calm down, Jade. Thing one and two are downstairs, they're probably here to make sure Andre doesn't leave. We need to get their keys." she motioned for them to follow quietly, they were both sitting on the couch, "Andre, do you know how to do that high pitched stunning whistle thing?"
"Yeah but Tor-."
"They kidnapped us, do not grow a conscience on me now." Tori snapped, "do it, I'll grab the keys and we can run."
Andre frowned but moved in front of everyone, crouching down before pursing his lips. The high pitched sound that came out made everyone cringe and the two on the couch instantly stiffened but didn't make a move otherwise. Quickly Tori and the others moved down the stairs, Tori slipping over to them, "Where are the keys." she whispered, dragging her finger down the mans arm. He offered no answer.
"Andre, tone it down." Jade whispered, the ferocity of the whistle eased.
"Where are the keys." Tori tried again.
"Pocket."
"Whose." she asked with a smile.
"Melisa's." he murmured. She turned and reached into the woman's front pocket, and then her other front pocket. They were both empty, Tori straightened and reached for the jacket pocket when a slim hand slipped around Tori's wrist and she was suddenly pinned on the table underneath her. When she looked to the stairs for explanation she found everyone being held by the mesmer from the house standing at the top of the stairs.
"Do you-."
"No, get them back in that room, I'll teach this one."
"Teach me what?" Tori purred, running her hand up the woman's cheek, tipping her head up and brushing her lips across Melisa's until she felt the pull and gripped her face tightly sucking the chi into her body greedily until Melisa's body started to sag at which point Tori pushed Melisa gently to the ground, staring challengingly at the mesmer who tried to expand his reach onto her mind while Trina struggled to shift and break his control.
Tori grinned, her eyes glowing bright blue as she walked toward the bigger man, still frozen on the couch, "please-I'm bound-please I didn't." he whispered, "They forced me, won me in a bet I had no choice."
Tori scowled, "The dark fae are so barbaric." she grumbled, "if you really didn't, find me those keys and help us get out. And you, I'll give you to the count of ten to let my friends go."
"Or what?" he asked, flicking a finger and making Jade walk forward, picking a knife up and spinning it through her fingers, "you'll have to kill your friends first." Jade ran at her, plunging the knife toward her sloppily. Tori grabbed her arm and swung her around, throwing her onto the couch as she ran toward the mesmer just as Trina broke free, shifted and turned on him, knocking him into the wall with so much power he fell unconscious.
"Good job Treen." she turned around intent on grabbing the keys when she found the muscle man holding them.
"Please tell me one of you has a license." he said. Jade held her hand up and he tossed her the keys. Trina, still in wolf form walked out ahead of her, "Its only a four seater." he commented.
"Trina, you gonna run?" Tori asked. She nodded her massive head and turned her body toward the road, lifting her nose and inhaling, turning and point in the direction the cars went, "and you-sorry what's your name."
"Max." he replied.
"You handsy, Max?" she asked, he shook his head vigorously left and right, "Good, Andre Robbie you two in the back, you got a phone?" he handed it to her and she motioned for him to get into the passenger seat.
She turned around and dialed Beck's number from memory, hello? he asked suspiciously upon answering.
"Beck, it's Tori. Someone took Cat-Andre's parents, they're up to something."
"Grab her." she heard Jade instruct and suddenly a large arm wrapped around her torso and dragged her down into the car before shutting the door, he kept his arm politely across her stomach.
"No Beck, we're going to find out where they are, or something. I don't know what they're up to or where they have Cat." She replied, glancing at the window at Trina who was keeping pace with the car, she glanced at the speedometer. 70 miles an hour. Trina's new record.
"I uh, don't know about the red head but I know what they're planning and where they are." Max commented, everyone in the car looked at him.
Come to the compound. Bring whoever that is. Her fathers voice interrupted, she glanced at Jade and over to Trina who was already making the sharp right to go toward the compound, "where is she going?" Jade asked.
"Just follow her." Tori sighing, ending the call on her end and handing Max his phone back.
The compound was packed, light and dark fae all jammed into one building, the gym was where the most important of the fae were gathered, and silence fell over it when Tori shoved the gym doors open and strolled in, Max and Trina still in wolf form on either side of her.
"Oh look, his murderous daughters are home." Trina growled in warning as they stepped over to their father and motioned to Max who explained what Andre's parents were up to, which just caused yet another fight and the teens were kicked out of the gym, Max following with them.
"They're just going to stay in there and play whose dick is bigger." Jade growled.
"And Tori's mom is going to win." Beck joked.
Tori scowled at him and glanced at Max who was sitting against the wall looking conflicted and guilty. She knelt down beside him, "so you said they didn't have my friend, but do you know anyone who can put up that containment field that was around our house?"
"There was no containment field up."
"Yes there was, it threw my sister across the house." Trina grunted from her spot laying on the floor by the wall.
"They got some fae working for them that mighta been able to but your red haired friend she's the one who's part mesmer right? What was she? Could someone get her out of her house?"
"She's a fairy, I mean someone could it wouldn't be hard but who would be stupid enough to take a fairy?"
Andre's attention turned to them, "what's so special about fairies?"
Tori spun on her toes, her knees sinking fully to the ground as she turned to him, glancing at Beck and Jade, "Fairies are a special kind of fae, they're rare, like mesmers, because they're very powerful, so powerful that it drives most fae to madness. And unlike the regular fae genes the fairy gene is random, it will hit anyone without anyone in that family having been one. Fairies aren't controllable, though Cat has made a valiant effort."
"What do you mean valiant effort?"
"She acts the way she does because it's her coping mechanism, it helps her keep her shreds of sanity. But sometimes Cat can't control it." her eyes flicker to Jade who pulls her legs up to her chest, "and things go very very bad."
Andre looked between the girls, watching Trina snuggle up to Jade who ground her teeth and stared blankly at the wall, "what kind of bad?"
"It's not my story to tell, I'm sorry Andre." Tori replied, looking over at Jade.
Jade glanced at her and then at Andre, "she burnt down my house." Jade replied.
"I thought you said an underfae..."
"No." Jade replied, "I just tell people that, only Tori knew."
"Cat didn't know what she was doing." Tori explained, "she went into one of her states where the power took over, when that happens she's basically an underfae. She can't control it, and one night she got in one of those states and something made her light the house on fire. She said all she remembers was feeling it coming on and locking herself in her closet and then she said she heard someone crying and she was in front of this burning house and she had scorch marks on her gloves and she ran inside as fast as she could and she could only save Jade."
"Will she be like that forever?" Andre asked, looking around at the solemn faces around him.
"After her dawning, if she makes it, she may gain control over her powers. But no fairy has survived in years." Beck answered, "we need to find her."
"I know where she would be-if they took her." Max confirmed, "and if they knew what she was they'd want her to try and manipulate her."
"Take us to her." Tori pleased.
"Okay. Let's go."
