Chapter Nine
"What! No! She can't be here - I don't want to see her!" Charlotte protested.
"Charlotte, believe me I am no happier than you are." Daniel said. "We just need to get home and pray she does not figure out where we live."
"God, how did she get here?" Emily said franticly.
"I don't know," Daniel replied.
Pulling into the driveway
"God, she's here." Emily said, startled to see Victoria on their doorstep.
"Daniel, Charlotte, I am pleased to see you. Emily what are you still doing here? I would have thought that you would have flown out the nest by now." Victoria said in a smug manner.
"Oh, Victoria it's sad you still think that." Emily responded making Victoria roll her eyes. Daniel reluctantly let Victoria into the house.
"What an interesting house, but couldn't you have got a better one? Surely you can afford it," Victoria said smugly.
"Emily get us some wine would you?" Victoria ordered as she sat down at the dining table.
Emily felt like her head was going to explode, she couldn't take it with Victoria. Daniel pulled Emily aside as he noticed her stress.
"Who does she think she is, barking orders at me like it's her house?" Emily said frustrated.
"I'll get the wine, you just get Charlotte from her room and sit at the table and try your best to remain calm." Daniel reassured Emily.
"Okay, but I don't want her to know about the baby, and it's Charlotte's choice if she wants to tell Victoria what's been happening with the twins." Emily said.
"Understood," Daniel responded before going to get the wine.
Emily went to go and get Charlotte from her room, where she had gone in an attempt to avoid her mother.
Charlotte reluctantly followed Emily out to the dining table where she sat as far away from Victoria as possible.
"Thank you," Victoria said to Daniel as he handed her the glass of wine.
"Oh Emily, don't tell me that you're watching your weight and not drinking," Victoria asked, with a false smile.
"No Victoria. Besides it's only 4 in the afternoon," Emily responded, avoiding the real reason as to why she wasn't drinking.
"And Charlotte you haven't gained as much weight as I thought." Victoria continued with her judging comments. Charlotte rolled her eyes at Victoria's attempt to hurt her.
"I need to express milk," she said angrily, before standing up to leave the table.
"Stocking up on milk now? It's a bit soon don't you think?" Victoria said, before plastering on another one of her fake smiles.
"If only you knew Victoria, now please excuse me. I'm going to check on Charlotte." Emily said before getting up and leaving Daniel alone to deal with the wrath of Victoria.
"Why are you here?" Daniel asked Victoria, demanding an answer. "And don't you dare say it's because you care for us!" Daniel continued.
"Don't be silly Daniel, you will thank me once I tell you this little piece of information." Victoria said, laughing slightly with a wave of her hand.
"And what might that be?" Daniel questioned his mother.
"You'll know in time Daniel." She said coldness evident in her words.
Emily returned to the table. "How is she?" Daniel asked his wife.
"It's gonna be hard for her but she's holding up." Emily said sympathetically. Victoria sensed that something was wrong.
"You better tell me what's wrong with Charlotte or so help you." Victoria demanded.
"Victoria if Charlotte wanted you to know she would tell you." Emily said. Victoria was furious that she was being kept out of the loop.
"Emily?" Charlotte said emerging from her room. "I need your help."
Emily followed Charlotte back to her room where Emily assisted Charlotte.
It was now a few hours later and Victoria was unfortunately still at the house, trying to cause havoc.
"Dinner is served." Emily announced placing the dinner on the table. They were interrupted by a knock at the door.
"I'll get it." Charlotte said jumping up from her chair. Charlotte returned with a familiar face, Amanda.
"Emily can Amanda stay for dinner?" Charlotte questioned.
"Of course, just grab an extra plate and some cutlery for her." Emily answered showing a sweet smile. Animosity showed on Victoria's face
"What the hell is Amanda Clarke doing here?" Victoria yelled.
"She's my half-sister mum, and Emily and Daniel's friend," Charlotte replied sitting down at the table.
"Daniel, please may I speak with you?" Victoria asked, harshness evident in her voice.
Victoria and Daniel got up from the table and went outside. "What in God's name are you doing befriending the family enemy?" Victoria yelled.
"Look, I know that you and dad had some dark past times with framing David Clarke, but Amanda is Charlotte's sister and if she wants to get to know her then I do too!" He yelled back in retaliation.
"You make me sick!" Victoria yelled back before storming back into the house.
"Something I said?" Amanda asked Emily as Victoria stormed by to use the bathroom. Emily knew that this would not be the last time something like this would happen. Hurricane Victoria was just starting.
The rest of dinner was in silence. Nobody had any idea of what to say after Victoria's little show. Emily's phone buzzed so she got up, walked outside and answered it.
"Hey Nolan," She greeted her friend.
"Ems I just caught wind from Jack that Victoria is on her way to visit," Nolan told her.
"Thanks Nolan, but too late. The queen herself is already here," Emily replied.
"Why didn't you call me when she arrived?" Nolan questioned.
"Because last time I called it was only like 3am over there, and let's face it, you did not react too well." Emily said.
"Also I should probably tell you that Jack is on his way over. He left for the airport about half an hour ago," Nolan said.
"What? Why?!" Emily exclaimed, shocked that someone else she knew was coming over.
"He wants to check on Charlotte, and see how her pregnancy is going." Nolan informed.
"Oops, I probably should have told you yesterday but Charlotte gave birth to the twins yesterday afternoon. She just got back from hospital this afternoon..." Emily filled Nolan in on recent events.
The conversation that Emily had with Nolan went on for a very long time, this igniting yet more suspicion in Victoria.
When Emily came back inside she found that Charlotte had left for her room ahain, Amanda had gone back to her hotel and Victoria was sitting at the table alone just waiting to pinpoint Emily.
Thankfully Daniel appeared from their room and needed her. Emily was confused at why Victoria would just show up like this after showing no interest in her children, but Emily knew one thing for sure; she had to figure out why and she needed to do it quickly.
Hoped you all enjoyed that chapter. As always Review, review, review! :)
