Scott's nightmare

"Scott?" His eyes fluttered open as he tried to examine his surroundings. He raised himself from the floor on his elbows and noticed Rogue standing at the edge of his bed, staring towards the door. "Scott!" Realizing where the voice was coming from, he stood up to see who it was. Scott rubbed his glasses, blinked and looked again. "No...Jean, is that really you?"

She was standing at the door dressed in a long white gown. Her hair was sparkling with glitter and her eyes were a deep crimson. Jean took a step into the room on her bare feet.

"How could you?" Her brow creased as she began crying into her hands. Scott looked at Rogue while she stood staring in amazement at the presumed dead telekinetic telepath.

Then he turned his attention back to Jean. "Jean, I'm sorry, but...you're dead..."

He looked to Marie, but she shrugged and looked back to Jean, rubbing her eyes a few times. Scott carefully moved passed Rogue, who was too surprised by Jean's appearance to even notice. Summers quickly moved towards Jean. "You're not Jean...damn you Mystique!"

"I'm not Mystique you imbecile! You just didn't waste any time did you?" She placed an arm out in front of her and raised her hand, with her palm facing him, and laughed menacingly as she forced Scott to fall on his back.

He slowly pulled himself up, "No, Jean, please I love you, but we thought you were dead! The Professor-"

"Oh please! Like I was ever really in love with you! Once Logan came along, you stopped existing in my world. Don't act like you didn't know. In fact, guess whose room I was visiting before I came here?"

Scott couldn't believe his ears or his eyes. "Jean! You didn't! You wouldn't, this isn't like you, Jean!"

"Oh, but I did Mr. Perfect! Mr. Boring! Mr. Know-It-All!" Summers turned around to see Rogue fall onto his bed, nervously holding her stomach and looking to him for answers. He shook his head in puzzlement.

Scott looked at Jean with a hurtful expression and reached for her hand. She flinched, pulled back her hand from his and glared. "And he's a lot bigger than you, Scott. And I mean a lot." Her eyes began glowing brighter.

"I know you're just trying to hurt me, Jean. Please don't let him come between us again. Yes, I kissed Marie, but nothing could ever make me stop loving you. You were gone, but you're back and we can start over now. I should have never given up, I don't want to lose you again! I'd do anything for you." He fell on his knees in desperation, looking up at her with pleading eyes.

A deep and powerful voice emerged from Jean as she directed her eyes towards the bed. "She's gotta go then, Scott."

Rogue's eyes widened as she stared at Jean with a look of fear. Jean screamed and threw her arms up in the air. Scott stumbled backwards until his back hit against the wall, "No, Jean, don't!" He was pinned, furiously he shook his head, attempting to maneuver his visors from his eyes.

Jean knew better, "Oh no you don't, Scotty", her eyes darted to Scott, she caused his head to push into the wall, facing Rogue,"Oh fine then, I guess you can help." He felt his visors slowly slip down the bridge of his nose. He shut his eyes tight, refusing to hurt Marie. "Now Scott, I thought you knew me better than that my love." She spat out the word as if it were the last of her bile.

"Run Marie, now!" he desperately pleaded, hoping it wasn't too late. Hoping against hope that Jean would let her go. Layers of anger, anxiety and helplessness flooded his entire body.

Jean's eyes were glowing so bright, it was as if they were balls of fire. Rogue wanted to run, but she was in a trance as she watched wings, glowing in flames, expand from Jean's back. The, now powerful Jean Grey, rose into the air, while gracefully flapping her wings and turned her attention to Rogue.

Shaking her head in disbelief, knowing she was in danger, Rogue darted for the door, but it slammed shut just as she got to it. The poor girl turned around, shaking uncontrollably, bracing herself as best as she could for the inevitable. With one last desperate attempt, she slipped off her gloves and ran towards Jean, "I'm so sorry, Jean!"

In a flash, Rogue was thrown across the room, landing roughly onto the bed. "Oh, she forgives you dear, but I don't care!" Jean's whole body went limp, and then her head snapped back up. Rogue, now immobile, stared in anticipation.

Jean's face and hair was transformed into another's. She was unrecognizable. The unknown creature had black eyes, long black hair with bright red streaks and dark tanned skin. She raised her arms into the air and tilted her head to the side while giving an evil wink. "Take one last good look, precious Marie, then say good bye!"

Flames ignited in the palm of her hands and she rapidly thrust them forward, then forced Scott's eyelids open. Rogue threw her arms up to shield herself, Scott crying out, "Marie!" as the heat rushed out from him. The creature maniacally giggled uncontrollably.

"NO!" Scott panicked as he struggled to shut his eyes, but Jean continued to keep them pinned open, against his will, "Somebody help us! Marie, oh God, Marie!"

Scott's visors moved back up, safely covering his eyes. He cried and took in the scene in horror. 'This can't be real, she's not dead...Didn't anyone hear them!?' Marie's body was gone, just a black hole in the burning wall. Scott's stomach tied into knots, he felt himself losing consciousness as he struggled not to fall apart.

The creature, which was controlling Jean's body, looked over to Scott as he coughed and gasped for air between whimpers. Satisfied, she released her hold on him and watched as he collapsed onto the floor in a heap of sobs. Thankfully, the fire she had released hadn't reached him yet as he made his way towards her. He felt a new set of sobs clawing their way up his gut as he spotted Marie's gloves.

He looked over at the burning bed and the hole filled with flames. Consumed by rage and devastation, he turned and rushed at the creature. "You bitch!"

"Not so fast!"

Just as Summers reached for his visors, she widened her eyes and stopped him in his tracks. "Well, that's no way to talk to your love, Scott?"

"You are not my love! You f-" She forced his lips closed.

"Now-now, two can play that game!" Using her powers, she lifted and then impelled him, right into the wall. Once again, everything went dark for Scott Summers.

A/N: SO tell me what you think readers? Should this chapter stay or what? Should I switch it with chapter 9? I'm dying here! Let me know in your reviews OR you can e-mail me! And I really don't mind if you choose to e-mail me rather than include your suggestions in a review. Thank you!
