My foster parents visit wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Dorea was crying for a while then she finally quit and started to say that James was no longer allowed to play Quidditch. Which resulted in James yelling that it's wasn't fair, that he would go into depression, and that he was the Captain and that he couldn't let his team down.
I stood next to Charlus with wide eyes thinking that James would rather die than not play Quidditch and if his body is still fully attached to him he'll never quit, and Dorea is fighting for a lost cause.
James was sitting up in his bed in his pajamas, hair ruffled with Dorea in her Aour robes and her red hair falling down in perfect curls that always brought out her eyes; both of them were frowning at each other.
I'm guessing James got his stubbornness from Dorea, because they both looked like they weren't going to back down any time soon.
Charlus was had his arms across over his chest and seemed to be hiding a smile, but his eyes shone freely with amusement.
I bit my lip and pulled the sleeves of my purple sweater, as I sat down on a nearby hospital bed.
Then Charlus just started chuckling which turn into full laughter.
I continued to bit my lip to hold back my smile.
Dorea glared at her husband but the coroners of her scowl showed that she was trying hard not to smile. James looked to his father, mother, and I then he started to laugh also.
I didn't get why everyone was laughing but I found myself smiling thinking that this family is strange.
And that's how Sirius and Lily found us.
James was doubled over laughing on his bed; Dorea with her arms crossed faking a scowl at us, Charlus recollecting himself from laughing so hard, and me sitting on the nearby bed smiling like a Cheshire cat.
It felt good to smile that big, it's been a long time since I have smiled like that. I can't even remember when the last time was. Out of the corner of my eye I saw, James try to flatten his hair down when he noticed Lily.
"Well Tiger-Lily it seems we have interrupted something by our arrival." Sirius smiled and put his arm around Lily's shoulders.
Lils rolled her eyes at him and removed his arm saying, "Don't call me that, Black."
She looked at me and raised an eyebrow at my smile. My smile was then turned into a line but against my will the corners of my mouth turned up, creating a small smile. This caused her eyebrow to rise higher and she sat next to me.
"No, Sirius I was just telling James that he is-"Dorea had started to say, but Charlus cut her off.
"Darling, this sort of thing sometimes happens, and if I do recall in our Quidditch days, you had much worse injuries. How is this any different?" Charlus flashed a charming smile at his wife.
She looked at him with a shocked expression.
"Charlus is right, Dorea, and James has the whole Gryffindor House relying on him with being our Seeker and being the Captain on top of it. Why don't you sit down, relax for a while and take a break from the parenting job?" Sirius said also flashing a charming smile, which made my breath, be robbed away for a second.
Dorea turned her gaze to Sirius.
I thought he was going to get told off, but she laughed, put a hand to her temple and replied with, "You both are too charming for your own good."
James had a huge smile on his face and exclaimed, "Yes!" while doing a fist pump.
We all stared at him then laughter filed the Hospital Wing again, while James pouted. After we all cooled down from the laugh attack, Dorea and Charlus stated that they had to leave.
After they did Lily elbowed me in the ribs. I yelped in pain and everyone looked at me curiously while Lily motioned her head toward my foster parents. I glared at her, not understanding. Then I remembered the wedding thing.
"Um…I was wondering if I could go to Lily's sister, Petunia's wedding on the tenth?" I asked praying to Merlin they'd say no.
They both looked at each other and then Charlus looked at me, "Isn't the tenth your birthday?"
Oh shit, I thought they wouldn't remember.
Lily looked like her eyes were going to bug out of her head, but then she quickly recovered and put a calm expression on her face.
"Well, yeah, but I don't mind and Lily is going to be there and Dumbledore already said that we can be excused that day right, Lils?" I pointed the attention to the said girl.
I like to pretend that cursed day of the year doesn't exist, but never has that happened in my life, since it happened.
Last year I sat on the roof of the orphanage and drank alcohol like it was nothing, to keep the memories and nightmares away. That ended with me being arrested for underage drinking and disturbing the peace by yelling at people from the roof to go fuck themselves. Aren't I just charming?
Lily nodded and smiled at the Potters. My foster parents looked at each other like they could talk to each just from eye contact. Dorea looked at me finally and smiled but it looked tense, shit.
"Sure, sweetheart." Her eyes reflected with worry though.
In my file it showed how I act on that day of the year and trust me none of it is pretty. Probably my worst behavior ever would be listed on that day and if they were smart they'd take back that I could go because if I was here I could do less damage to myself and others.
"Sirius, be a dear, and walk us out?" Dorea asked but in her voice there was no room for argument. She and her husband turned and headed towards the exit.
Sirius sighed and stated, "I'll be back in a moment."
James nodded and I stared at his retreating back till he was out of sight.
I was about to breath a breath of relief and dread after they left, but then I felt the burning gaze of Lily making a hole in my skull.
I looked at her and ended up getting a pillow thrown at my face.
"What was that for?!" I exclaimed at her glaring daggers.
She had a look of satisfaction on her face and replied, "For not telling me that my sister's wedding day was on your birthday. I know that you don't necessarily like your birthday, but I don't want to make you spend it-" I cut her off, by hitting her in the face with a pillow.
Lily purposely avoided why I didn't like my birthday. She knows what happened but she doesn't know how I act on that day, and I don't plan on her finding out. I'll make sure she's busy with something and I'm alone before I do something rash.
"Lily its fine," I put a hand on her shoulder, "Let's just pretend my birthday doesn't exist."
She nodded but she was frowning. Eh she'll get over it, I hope.
Then I remembered James was here when he asked, "Why don't you like your birthday?"
I turned to him, and was trying to come up with an answer, but thankfully Sirius came back right then. He collapsed on James hospital bed with a heavy sigh.
"When are you getting out of here, mate? This place is depressing."
James rolled his eyes and replied, "I get out Monday, Padfoot."
Sirius groaned, "But that's going to be forever, Prongs."
"It's one day."
"Exactly!" Sirius exclaimed.
For the moment they seemed to forget that Lily and I were here so to avoid the question James asked, I stood up quietly grabbed Lily's arm and started to inch towards the exit. We were almost at the door then Sirius sat up and asked, "Where you going, love?"
I was hoping that I wouldn't talk to Sirius anytime soon, I'm a little embarrassed about what happened last night, and I really need to find my razor. Lily was near me all morning long and I haven't had the chance to get rid of the urge. I need to get away from all the emotions.
I kept my back to him and answered, "Sirius, we've been over this, don't call me that. As for where I'm going, is none of your business." I wanted him to get mad at me. It's better when he's mad at me.
"Don't get all irritable it was just a question." His voice had a calm tone to it.
"That doesn't make it any of your business, does it?" I snapped and I spun around glaring at him.
"Are you trying to fight with me?" He asked now irritated.
I was about to make matters worse when Lily touched my shoulder and forced me to look at her. I don't know why I was getting so mad for or trying to get mad.
"Vanessa, what's going on with you?" She asked. I took a deep breath and shut my eyes. Not cutting is getting to me.
I opened my eyes and replied, "Sorry I'm just…tired."
Sirius and James didn't look like they believed me, but Lily nodded her head.
"I'm going to go take a nap before dinner." I stated looking at them to object.
"I'll catch up with you later." Lily said. Why she wanted to stay here to me is unknown, I want to leave right now. I nodded at her and walked out of the Hospital Wing.
