SoM 9

No! No, no! That's not possible. It's just... it's just my mind playing tricks. Tricks? I subconsciously want Celeste to be a siren, and so she's apparently a siren, Dipper thought frantically as he curled up on his bed.
"She likes singing, she's good at singing, no big deal. Any 15 year old girl can be attractive like that, in fact, many are," Dipper mumbled to himself. "Oh, I don't feel good." He knelt on the rough floorboards, the moon shining over his pale face. It was glossed over with a cold sweat. No, she was definitely a siren, nobody sings that gorgeously. I was enraptured. Dipper's mind was firing on all cylinders, figuring out every possibility. Dipper's eyes shot open in realization. Robbie's in so much danger! Dipper sprung up from the floor, prioritizing his plan.
"Okay, so, first, get to the cabin. Then, find a way to sneak in. Then, find Robbie and break the news to him. If he doesn't freak out, we leave and plan from there." Dipper disrobed as he sorted out his operation. He donned his darkest shirt and darkest pants, and then threw on the black hoodie he had in case it got chilly in Gravity Falls (which, much to Dipper's discomfort, it never did). Dipper opened his door with all the care in the word, and started to descend down the stairs, taking care to stay close to the wall. It wasn't a problem sneaking out of the house because of the fact Grunkle Stan slept like a rock. And snored like a bear.
"Hey, Dipper," a gravelly voice spoke from the television room. Dipper's heart stopped. "What ya doin' up so late?"
"I, uh..." Dipper said, trying to formulate a viable lie, "want to go get some fresh air. I read nighttime air is the best because it's unstirred." Grunkle Stan blinked, then yawned.
"Alright then," he said, stretching and returning to his show. "You kids with your weird habits. Sheesh." Dipper counted his lucky stars and walked out of the house, gradually picking up speed as he ran to Robbie's shack. I'll look after you, Robbie, he thought as the cold night air filled his lungs. I promise.

"Get to the cabin. Check," Dipper said under his voice as he crept up to the cabin. "Now, how do I get in... Ah!" As he looked around, his eyes rested upon an open window with no screen. "Thank goodness this is so easy. It's like I'm dreaming!" That, and the fact I have a new brother, and that his roommate's a Greek monster, Dipper thought sarcastically. Dipper hoisted himself up onto the window, and was about to crawl in, until Celeste's trademark voice filled his ears.
"Kowarete yuku yorokobi mo
Yagate kieru kanashimi mo
Omoiegaku sumete wo daite
Ima honoo wo yami ni ukaberu..." Momentarily swayed by the rhythmic music, Dipper lost his balance and crashed into the house. The swivel chair Celeste was sitting in rotated slowly toward the small boy until their eyes met. Dipper couldn't move; his feet and legs refused his command, as his entire mind was under Celeste's intense stare.
"So," she sneered, glaring. "I knew you were one of them. As stupid as the rest, too." Dipper's voice wasn't working, but yet again, nothing was being responsive. "Just another dumb monster hunter, chasing after me because I'm a quote 'mythical beast' end quote." She paused, so as to let it settle within Dipper. "So, what is it this time? Last guy accused me of being a mermaid. Guy before him claimed harpy. Can't a girl just be good at singing?"
"You're..." Dipper said slowly, regaining use of his tongue, "a siren, I think." That stopped Celeste. Dipper could've sworn some of the color left her cheeks as he said that. Celeste shifted her shoulders, as if something physically made her uncomfortable.
"Objection!" she snapped quietly, careful not to disturb the morning. "That's baseless. Where's your proof? Where's your evidence? You can't prove anything without evidence."
"You sing, you're gorgeous, and you're drawn to sharp things. It's somewhat obvious, to be hon-"
Celeste moved way up to Dipper in her leather swivel chair, the black material shining faintly in the moon.
"Who's going to take the word of the boy who cried siren?" She sat up, regaining her composure. "All you have deduced is that I'm an amazing singer, and I'm passive-aggressive, but that doesn't prove anything."
"B-but, I'm sure of it! I have a feeling! In my gut!"
"No," Celeste sneered, "you probably just read something in some shoujo manga that got you all excited because you live in Gravity Falls so WHY NOT? However, this amuses me. Please, if anyone can find the true secret about me, it could probably be you. So, do your research. Someday, it may come to be that you, along with everyone else, will see me for who I am." Then, Celeste did something odd. She looked wistfully up at the moon. It was weird, like she was recalling powerful old memories, memories that hurt. She shook her head. "Come back every day at two A.M. Tell me what you found, if anything." Dipper was still too stunned to speak. He must've said some sort of affirmation, because Celeste snickered.
"See you tomorrow morning," she giggled, and waved her hand. Dipper promptly got up and climbed back out the window.
"Kirameite wa kiete yuku
Imawa no kotoba no toji me Utsukushiku hibiku onkei wa subete kagerou?
Nani mo kikoe nai..."

Author's Note:
I wonder if anyone's still reading this story...?
Words cannot express how badly I've felt that every few months this story goes dead. Maybe you don't care and I'm over thinking Fanfiction, who knows?
I can't wait for this hiatus to be over, I tell ya. I think I remember in an AMA that Alex Hirsch said there'll be an episode or two revolving around the teen gang and I'm like "I want that..."
The weather's warming up, but with that I have even more responsibilities. Everything from softball to civic plays to finals prep just around the corner. I'm so sorry. Expect the next chapter sometime in June, 'cause that looks like when you're gonna get it. Maybe I'll be able to write Memorial Day...
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this one scene. I would promise that the next chapter will be bigger, but who's to say? Alright, thanks for reading! I've got a Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney one-shot on it's way on my profile, and it'll be up as soon as I get to the library. It'll be soon! I've got manga due ;)
