Stiles didn't know where it all went wrong. A few hours ago he invited Derek over for dinner and it all started out good but Derek ended up getting in an argument with his dad and the whole night went to hell.
Three hours ago
"Why do you seem so nervous?" Derek asked. He was sitting in Stiles parking lot.
"Because I just want everything to go well." Stiles said. "Considering how the last meeting went I just don't want it to happen again." He looked back toward his house and started biting his nails, shaking his leg. He looked back over at Derek when he felt a hand on his lap and he stops shaking. "Sorry."
"Just relax." Derek said.
"I can't relax." Stiles said. "You're the first guy I've really cared about that's ever stayed over for dinner. I don't know about you but that's a big deal for me. I just want everything to go perfect."
Derek saw that he started biting his nails again. He reached over and grabbed his hand. "Everything is going to be fine." He kissed Stiles hand. "Come on."
"Yeah at least everything will be okay because my dad isn't home yet." Stiles said getting out of the car. He and Derek got out of the car and headed inside.
...
Derek was sitting upstairs with Stiles in his bedroom. He was lying on Stiles bed watching Stiles as he paced around the room. "Stiles don't do this again."
"I'm not freaking out so don't say it." Stiles said. "I'm just worried that something will go wrong." He looked toward the window when he heard a car pull up in the driveway. "Oh god, he's here and he's going to be pissed."
"Why would he be pissed?" Derek asked sitting up.
"I didn't tell him about you coming over for dinner." Stiles said looking down.
"Why?" Derek asked.
"I kept freaking out and then I just didn't tell him." Stiles watched his dad as he went over to Derek's car before going inside. "Oh god he's going to kill me." Derek sighed, got up and headed to the door. "Where are you going?" Stiles said.
"I'm just going to Scott's room." Derek said walking off.
Not long later
Stiles was pretending to be on his computer when his dad walked in. "Hey dad."
"Who's car is that outside?" Mr. Stilinski asked.
Stiles got up and walked over to his dad. "Um it's Derek's car, he's staying over for dinner."
"And when were you planning on telling me?" Mr. Stilinski asked.
"I wanted to but I didn't know how." Stiles said. "You said that you would give him a chance so I invited him over for dinner."
"And where is he now?" Mr. Stilinski asked.
"He's in Scott's room." Stiles said.
"Uh huh." Mr. Stilinski said. He left Stiles and went to Scott's room. The door was open and he found Scott and Derek playing football. "Derek?"
Derek stood up and walked over to the sheriff. "Mr. Stilinski um I hope you don't mind me staying for dinner."
"Well I guess it's to late for me to answer that don't you think?" He looked at Scott. "Scott where is your mother?"
"She's in the kitchen." Scott said and once he was gone he looked over at Derek.
"Well this night is getting off to a great start." Derek said. "Now I probably have to stay here because your old man won't let me see Stiles."
"I know how you feel." Scott said. "I went through the something with Allison's parents. Yeah we fought and argued but now everything is going good. He's just getting use to you but he'll come around."
"I hope you're right because I really don't want it to come down to Stiles having to choose between me and his dad." Derek said. "I just wish that he would see that I truly care about Stiles and I don't want to hurt him."
"I see it and so does my mom." Scott said. "So I don't want you to feel like you're alone because we're on your side."
Derek smiled. "Thanks dude, so you don't mind if I hang around in here with you, do you?"
"No I don't mind." Scott said.
...
Stiles was glad that Derek was upstairs with Scott because his dad had him cooking, cleaning and doing whatever he could to keep Stiles from going back upstairs. A few hours later Stiles was fixing the table when Derek and Scott walked in. "Hey guys."
"He must be trying to keep you away from me." Derek whispered looking around. "To tell you the trust he didn't seem all that excited to see me."
"I told you." Stiles said. "This night is already starting out bad." Stiles said. "I feel like it's only going to get worse before it gets better."
...
The five of them were seated at the kitchen eating. It's been quiet since they all sat down ten minutes ago. Stiles was sitting next to his dad when Derek sat all the way on the other side of the table. They glanced at each other a few times while the sheriff wasn't looking their way.
"So Derek why don't you tell me what you agenda is with my son?" The sheriff said. "I've put a million guys like you behind bars."
"Dad stop." Stiles said.
"No I want to know why." Mr. Stilinski said. "Why are you here?"
"What's your problem?" Derek nearly yelled.
"You are my problem." Mr. Stilinski said. "So why don't you do us a huge favor and leave."
"He's not going anywhere."Stiles said.
"I care about Stiles." Derek said.
"You're a user and you're using my son." The sheriff yelled.
"You don't know anything about me!" Derek yelled back.
"Oh I know everything I need to know." Mr. Stilinski said. "You a criminal who should be behind bars instead of feeding my soon all that bullshit about how you care about him."
Derek looked around the table at all the scared and angry faces and sighed. "I should go." He backed away from the table and headed to the door. Once he got outside he heard Stiles calling his name and he stopped.
Stiles walked in front of him. "I'm sorry about my dad Derek."
Derek sighed. "I can't do this anymore."
Stiles frowned. "What do you mean?"
"I want to be with you Stiles but as long as you dad is like this it will never work." Derek said. "I'm sorry but I think we should stop seeing each other and this time, I mean it."
"Derek?" Stiles said.
"Bye Stiles." Derek said walking off to his car.
"Derek, don't do this!" Stiles called after him but Derek got into his car and pulled out of his driveway. He stood there, hoping Derek would come back but he didn't. Going back inside he headed up to his room.
"Stiles?" Mr. Stilinski said.
Stiles stopped and turned to his dad. "So much for trying to get to know him and he just broke up with me. Are you happy now that you finally got what you wanted. So from now on just stay out of my life." He turned and headed up to his room. Closing and locking his door he turned on his radio, put on his he's headphones and turned the music all the way up.
A few hours later
Mr. Stilinski stood outside his son's room trying to think of something to say to him but he couldn't. He knocked on the door but there no answer. He knocked a few more times before walking away.
...
Stiles laid on his bed starting up at the ceiling. As the music blasted in his ears he tried to shut out the rest if the world.
