Chapter 9 - What Would Senior Year Be Like?
It was close to September after Felicity returned home from the hospital. Carrie had been living in the Cartwright household for two and a half weeks and she felt loved more than ever. Phil helped Carrie move only her things from the White household to the Cartwrights. Alana and Felicity also surprised Carrie by chipping in to buy new summer/school clothes for both of the girls from a few department stores downtown. Carrie was so happy to receive new clothes, she decided to store her homemade clothes for winter. The girls decided to have some fun showing off their new clothes by putting on a show for Alana, Phil, and Lois. All three love the girls' new clothes. Carrie loves her new job as Assistant Nursery Attendant at Main Street Family Church. Everyone there made Carrie feel welcome by inviting her and Felicity to occasional luncheons after services and Outreach sessions one Saturday each month with St. Mary's Food Bank and Shelters in Lewiston.
On August 29, Carrie and Felicity received their schedules for their Senior Year at Ewen High. They hoped that they would have classes together and it turns out that they have most most of their classes together. This is what their Senior Year will be like:

That evening, the Cartwrights were waiting to hear from their lawyer, Serena Campbell, about arranging a meeting to discuss a date and time for their trial case against Margaret. That phone call came after Carrie and the Cartwrights had their dinner. It was 6:05 when Phil answered the call. Everyone listened carefully. "Yes, yes, yes thank you Counselor. Alana and I will see you then." He hung up the phone. "What did she say?" Alana asked. "Well, she wants to meet with us Wednesday afternoon," Phil answered. "What time does she want to meet us?" Alana asked again. "Counselor Campbell wants to meet with us at 12:45, honey," Phil replied. "I'll let my supervisor know first thing tomorrow morning." "Well, I have the day off from work at the bank on Wednesday so there shouldn't be a problem," said Alana. Felicity and Carrie knew that Alana and Phil were worried. After cleaning up the dishes, they decided to go outside to sit on the front porch swing.
After a few minutes, Carrie closed her eyes, took a deep breath and felt the summer breeze gently blow through her hair. Felicity did the same. It was 75.5 degrees outside, which she thought was the perfect weather for a summer night. Felicity felt a little shake. She opened her eyes and saw that her feet were not touching the ground. The porch swing was floating in mid-air. "Care?" Felicity gasped. Carrie opened her eyes and looked at Felicity. She smiled and squeezed Felicity's hand, letting her know that there is nothing to be afraid of. Just then, the girls heard Phil call them, which made Carrie flex and the porch swing fell back to the ground. "Yes, Phil," Felicity replied as the two went in the house. "Girls? Are you alright? What was that noise?" Phil asked again. "What noise?" Carrie asked. "I thought I heard a crash outside," said Phil. "Oh, that was probably some of the neighbor kids setting off firecrackers they have left over from the Fourth of July," Felicity said. "You know how we use to hear them, Phil, back at our old house?" Phil looked at Felicity for a moment, then smiled with relief. "I'm just glad that you two are okay. Please don't try to scare me like that again." Felicity and Carrie nodded. "We promise and we're sorry," they said at the same time. "That's alright," Phil said, giving them a hug. "I know it's been overwhelming for all of us to protect you girls after what Margaret did. I'll tell you what. How about we surprise Mom and Grandma with some ice cream?" "YES!" Felicity and Carrie agreed excitedly. Felicity grabbed the keys to the truck while Carrie told Lois and Alana that "they were going out for a bit" and to "be back in 15 minutes." 15 minutes later, the three got back to the house with their own ice cream creations from Coldstone Creamery. Felicity had "Peanut Butter Cup Perfection"; Carrie had "Cookie Doughn't You Want Some"; Phil got himself "Mud Pie Mojo" and for Alana and Lois "Cheesecake Fantasy." Alana and Lois were very pleased to hear that they brought a sweet treat home to forget their recent troubles.
