Chapter 8
Kori sat at her desk, it was Friday and really she should be packing to go and stay at Wayne Manor, but honestly she just couldn't be bothered. Karen walked in and found her sulking, playing with something in her hands. Leaning over Kori's shoulder, Karen noticed that Kori was playing with a very nice diamond ring. Kori leant back and showed it to Karen properly. "Beautiful isn't it?" It was a very simple two tone ring, with two small diamonds.
"Gorgeous. Is it real?"
"As real as they get." Kori sighed and put the ring back in the box next to her.
"Where is it from? I've never seen it before."
"I know, no one knows I have it. It's not technically mine." She looked longingly at the ring in the box. "Richard gave me it. It was his mother's engagement ring. He said that she had told him that one day she would give it to him, so he could give it to the girl that was able to steal his heart. When he gave me it, I flat out refused to take it. I was thinking he was proposing and I was not ready for all of that. He right out laughed at me, and said that he was giving it to me, not as a proposal but just as a reminder that I had managed to steal his heart, and to keep this safe. He said if he was going to propose to me, he would buy me my own ring. He said that no offence to me, he would rather keep his mother's ring safe, and have our own special ring if it ever came to it. Not that it will now. But I just don't know what to do with this now." Kori shut the box and sighed again.
"Well personally I think Dick does still love you."
"And I still love him but he cheated on me. I'm not going back to that."
"Okay, if you truly feel that way then I think it only fair that you give him it back. It is after all as you said, not your ring."
"I suppose."
"Anyway missus, you need to get ready, you have a Charity Ball to go to. And I did not spend five hours dress shopping and not buying anything for you not to go in that gorgeous gown. Now up."
Kori couldn't help but giggle as Karen lifted her out of the chair and got her overnight bag for her. They packed everything she needed and waited for Jason to pick her up. When Jason arrived, Kori put her bag in the car, and carefully draped her dress over the back seats.
"Kori!" Karen ran to her. "Don't forget this." She placed the ring box in Kori's hand and Kori looked sadly at her friend. With silent thanks, Kori got into the car and Jason drove them to the Manor.
"Thank you for picking me up Jase, that dress cost a fortune, I think I'd kill myself if it got ruined."
"No problem. What's in the box?"
"Oh nothing, just some unfinished business."

Dick sighed, he hated Charity Balls. Sure they were for a good cause, but they were so boring. He had to remember names, and behave and it was all too much effort. He looked into his mirror and ran his hand through his hair, just to make it look a little rugged. He fixed his tie, and looked at the time. 7.30. He was ready early. Truthfully, he wished he had invited Babs as his date, even just to keep him company, but she was annoying him and lately he just wasn't in the mood for her whining. Dick flopped onto his bed and sighed, she really was getting on his nerves lately and he wasn't entirely sure why he kept her around half the time.
A light knock on his door roused him from his thoughts, but he didn't move. "Come in." the door opened but he couldn't see who it was from where he was sat.
"Um… Dick?" Kori's voice caused Dick to bolt up. She was sheepishly stood in his doorway in a bathrobe, her hair still wet. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah, fine. I just… well you know me. I hate these events." An awkward silence hit them and Dick was fidgeting with the end of his tie. "I… er. I heard that you made up with Jason and Roy."
"Oh yeah. Well I have Xavier to thank for half of that. It was actually Jason who invited me here tonight. Not as a date though."
"No? What about Roy? Are you two like… you know?"
"Oh, well no. We both agreed it was best that I keep my distance from relationships for the time being." Another awkward silence hit. "Your room is still as messy as ever."
"Yeah well I don't have anyone to tidy it for me anymore…" Dick shuffled as he realised what he said. Kori just blinked, not wanting to make it any more awkward, but knowing she would have to. The two went to speak at the same time and chuckled at the irony of the situation. "Kori… I… can we at least try and be fr…"
"Dick please. Don't do this."
"But you're fine with Roy and Jason!"
"And? That doesn't mean I excuse what you did! Look, I didn't come here to start this. I need to go get ready for tonight." She walked up to him, pulling something out of her pocket. Placing it in his hand she didn't even give him a second glance as she walked out the room, shutting the door behind her. Dick looked at the box confused. He opened it, and what he saw broke his heart.
"I'm a fucking idiot." He held the ring box tight and fell back onto his bed, a sigh escaping his lips. Tonight was going to be fun.

Jason walked up to the bar to get himself and Kori a drink. She was currently dancing with Bruce, and Dick was watching through narrowed eyes. She did look good. The midnight blue floor length dress looked amazing on her, and it just enhanced all of her naturally beautiful features. Jason leant against the bar and gave Dick a tap on the arm. "Dude, you've been watching her for like three hours now. She's going to think you're stalking her."
"Fuck you Jason. I'm not in the mood."
"Well someone's been drinking. Maybe you should go to bed Dick, you don't like these things anyway."
"I'm fine."
"Really? Dick come on. I was pissed when I came back, but now I think I'm actually rooting for you two to get back together. But you did cheat on her, so she's not going to just come running."
"Do you remember I turned 16, and my parents' estate finally came to me?"
"Yeah?"
"Do you remember I showed you my mother's ring, and what she said about it?"
"I think so yeah. Why?"
"I gave it to Kori. Not as an engagement ring, but it just felt right."
"So…?"
"She gave it back to me tonight. I don't think she would ever take me back if I got on my knees and begged her." Dick downed the rest of his drink and ordered another one. Jason sighed and took the drink before Dick could grab it.
"First things first. You can't try and get your ex-girlfriend back, whilst you're in a relationship. That's just fucked up. So before you can even think about doing anything regarding Kori, you need to break up with Babs. You don't like her anyway."
"Fine. But can I have my drink back?"
Jason just laughed and walked away, leaving Dick to think about what he said. Dick sighed and sulked off to his room.
A few hours later Dick was still awake but he was in bed, his head was a little fuzzy, but he just couldn't sleep. He heard some muffled voices trying not to laugh, and recognised it as Jason and Kori. Dick couldn't quell his curiosity popped his head out of his door to find out what was going on. Kori was currently trying to hold Jason steady and get him up the stairs. So far, it wasn't going well. Dick couldn't help but laugh at his brother and, despite being only in his boxers; he rushed to help the poor boy to bed. Kori was still giggling.
They managed to get Jason to bed and he practically fell asleep in his suit before his head even hit the pillow. Kori shut the door behind her and stood out on the landing with Dick. "Thanks. I don't know how he got so bad. He had about the same amount as I did."
"It's alright I just had visions of him taking the two of you back down the stairs if he fell. He'll feel that in the morning."
Kori giggled and yawned, she went to step past Dick to her room, but tripped. Dick caught her before she managed to go anywhere. "I think I need to be put to bed. I didn't exactly drink water all night." Dick helped her stand straight, but neither of them moved. They just stood staring at each other. Kori bit her lip, logic seeping in, and she looked to the floor. But before any other logical thoughts could creep in, she found Dick's mouth against hers. And she did nothing about it.
All logic left her brain, and her hands found their way into his unruly ebony hair. He pushed her back lightly until her back found the bannister, and then he gently manoeuvred his hands to her behind so he could lift her up. On instinct Kori's legs wrapped themselves around his waist and her ankles locked together. Neither of them said a word. Dick somehow managed to get the two of them down the hallway and into his room without any accidents, and he not so gently dropped Kori onto his bed before kneeling in front of her to take off those wretched shoes that made her taller than he was.
Kori sat up and bent down to lock her lips with Dick's again before standing up and turning around. She pulled her hair over her shoulder and he got what she was getting at. The zipper. Dick slowly undid the zipper and gently pulled the fabric over Kori's shoulders and down her arms before letting it drop to the floor. All thoughts of expensiveness also out the window. Dick ran his hands down her skin, and wrapped his arms around her before burying his face in her neck. She giggled, and it was the most amazing sound he'd ever heard.
When Kori turned, Dick got a look at a purple lace underwear set. Must be knew, he'd never seen it before. He smirked grabbed the back of her neck, pulling her into a heated kiss which she agreed to no problem. They had no inhibitions. And with all the clothes discarded on the floor, and the deed finally done, they fell sleep together. His arm draped over her slender waist, her face buried in the crook of his neck.
Please review and tell me what you thought of this... SCANDAL! Love midge :) xxx
