You're our WHAT and We're your WHAT!?
A/N: It's been quite a long time since I had updated this story along with many others and I had finally had the time to actually write more chapters. I greatly appreciate those who are actually following as well as those taking the time to review this story, it helps me keep going. Also, I sometimes use a bit of ideas coming from you guys. Hopefully, this chapter will be enough to keep you entertained as well as happy.
I actually have reached the threshold of being an adult. Like, paying for bills and student loans. Hopefully you guys are doing well and having an awesome day. We aim to please. (Anyone get that reference? No? I'll let you wonder about that. Hahaha…)
Anyway, here's the latest chapter. I don't own anything except my wonderful imagination.
An empty high school hallway greets the new substitute teacher who nervously tugs at his sleeve as he walked down the quiet corridor. The man's bright green eyes scan the area, noting that a few students were either making their way to class, loitering or merely skipping. The Brit quickly walks down the polished stairs towards the exit and into the school's designated area for portable classrooms. Arthur Kirkland makes his way over to his designated classroom and slips the key which had been provided to him earlier that morning into the keyhole and enters the stuffy room. The Englishman quickly strips his coat and walks over to open the window, allowing the fresh air to enter. Within the next few minutes of straightening up the room and lightly dusting the desk, the Brit hears the bell ring and was immediately followed by the sounds of doors slamming open, the laughter and shouts of teenagers.
"Time to get started." The thick browed Englishman softly spoke as if to encourage himself while rolling his sleeves up. Arthur walks over to open the door then to the front of the room, picking up a piece of chalk and writing with fluid grace the class' agenda for the day.
"Good Morning!" the cries of the students in Arthur's class fill the room as they slowly come in.
"Good Morning." Arthur replies calmly as he remains writing on the board, hearing the kids settle down into their seats as they murmur and whisper. He smiles amusedly as he listens to the 9th graders speak quietly, unsure of how to react to their new substitute teacher.
"You know who he is?" A student murmurs softly towards another.
"A sub maybe?"
"Ahh...I hope he's not going to give a lot of work." That comment made Arthur smile faintly as he continues writing on the board.
"Shh...He'll hear us..."
"Alright, everyone settle down." The Englishman finishes writing on the board and turns towards the class, ignoring the some of the comically large eyes, raised eyebrows and shy smiles coming mostly from the girls. "I am Mr. Kirkland. I will be taking over as your teacher's substitute."
~*~*~DURING LUNCH TIME~*~*~
"Hmm...what to get..." Larissa quietly mutters to herself as she stands in line, looking at the different steaming cafeteria food behind the glass. The Filipina continues look at the food while trying to ignore the vibrating phone in her pocket as she moves up the line still trying to decide what to get for lunch. The said girl soon pays for her lunch which consists of chicken tenders, mashed potatoes and an apple as she reaches the cashier.
"Hey, Isa! Hurry up..." One of the Filipina's friends, Christie, calls out while holding unto her lunch.
"Comin'...comin'..." The long-haired girl walks over while holding her lunch gingerly in one hand whilst taking her phone out in the other. "Huh...someone just called."
The two girls walk out of the cafeteria and make their way upstairs to the area where their lockers are located which was in the quieter hallways of the school. The two settle down in front of it, preparing to have their lunch while Isa looks at who called her a few minutes ago at the same time speaking to her friend on their plans for the next few days.
"That essay that Mrs. Daweson brought up in class today..."
"I think I'll start on it in the next few days. It's fairly easy and I have an idea on what to do anyway."
"Hah! I bet you'll finish it in 3 days and laze around for the rest of the week."
"You bet I will. I can just sit in the back and eat my food..."
"I find it so unfair that she doesn't give you a hard time while other people are eating."
"Easy. It's because she likes me. And I hand my homework early. Sorry my phone's ringing." Larissa immediately answers and places the phone against her ear.
"ISA!" came the shrill shout from the other end of the line. "Where are you!? We need to talk!"
"What the-?!" The Filipina immediately pulls away from her phone's earpiece, wincing at the sudden loud shout. She does a double take at the screen which indicated the caller ID and realizes that it had been her housemate squeaking at a high pitched voice. "Mei…wait, wait…what's the problem?"
"It's urgent! It's Francis-!"
"..." Larissa's friend chews her salad slowly as she glances at her friend before minding her food, barely listening into the conversation whilst tinkering with her new phone. A few minutes pass when Christie finally noticed a guy friend along with some of his own group of friends were slowly making their way over towards both her and Larissa who seemed to be restless, an indication that something was up.
"Alright. I'll meet you downstairs-" Larissa is suddenly interrupted by the ringing of the class bell. "Ah, never mind…I'll meet you at English class instead and you can tell me."
"But Isa-!" The Filipina ends the call and pockets her phone.
"Christie, I gotta go. I'll see you tomorrow-" The Filipina immediately ended the call while quickly taking her unfinished lunch and throwing Christie a glance. "Sorry about this..."
"Yeah, yeah…We'll catch up tomorrow, kay?" came the distracted reply as Christie waves at her guy friend after closing the container of her lunch, ready to walk home with him since she is finished for the day.
"Alright! See you!" The Filipina immediately makes her way towards the doors leading to the portable classroom located beside the school football field. The young woman immediately meets her seatmate, Victor, a bright-eyed and capricious Arabic brunette, and gives him a big hug after he sneaks some food from her tray.
"You going to share that?" Victor grins as he eyes the food in Isa's hands making her roll her eyes.
"Yeah…but you have to help me sneak it in…" came the reply.
"Alright. Pass the food through the window by the front by the heater. She won't see it." The bright-eyed boy smiles lightly as he sneaks another tender before Isa smacks it out of his hand.
"You better not eat all of it, Victor." Victor laughs boisterously as the two eventually find themselves in front of the portable.
"You don't trust me, Isa?"
"I don't have a choice if I want to eat, I guess." The Filipina glances at Victor as she walks to the opposite side. "I'll wait by the side for you, kay?"
"Alright. I'll tell the teach that you'll be a few seconds late."
Victor waits patiently and perks up as he sees a familiar face walking at a fast pace. He grins as a short-haired Chinese friend of his walks up to him at the same time glancing around the area. Mei perks up as she sees Victor smiling coltishly at her which faintly aggravated her.
Mei Chong and Victor Rahal had been close friends ever since they had meet each other since elementary school, both being quite competitive not only in academics and sports but also in irrelevant things such as who had the smallest penmanship and who could prolong a note the longest. The two had not only become friends but also confidants with each other in regards to various things.
"What's up, Mei? You look something the cat dragged in." Victor greets cheekily.
"Really, Victor…" Mei rolls her eyes at the greeting as they hear the door being opened to the portable. "Have you seen Isa? I have to talk to her…"
"She'll be here in a few minutes." The two follow the rest of their classmates into the portable, noting how their regular loud and lively class seemed more quiet than usual.
Mei makes her way to her seat which was in front of Isa's own seat which was by the windows. As she soon enters she notices a familiar person writing on the chalkboard which was at least only a meter r two away from her own seat. The Cantonese's eyes widen as she sees the familiar lithe form, the messy straw-coloured hair, the brown old fashioned vest and the beautiful neat cursive writing on the board.
"No way…" the short-haired young woman whispers in surprise. "He works here too!?"
Whilst, the stand-in teacher was writing, Victor immediately walks behind Mei and quickly takes the plate of food handed by a smiling Isa. Victor grins as he sits beside Isa's desk while the long-haired young woman walks towards the entrance to enter the portable still oblivious to the situation at hand.
"Alright, everyone…I am going to be your substitute teacher for the rest of the semester since Mrs. Traugott is in the hospital." The soft yet stern British accent drifted towards the open door making Isa stiffen. The girl decides to take a peek and immediately spots the familiar blonde standing in front of the class being none other England in all his glory. "I am Arthur Kirkland. You may call me Mr. Kirkland."
'Ohhhhhh…This is going to be a sweet semester if I get to stare at him this semester.' The tanned young woman thought before shaking her head to banish such thoughts. 'Wait, what is with this situation!? Why is he here!?' The Filipina's eyes follow the Englishman who was making his way over to close the door. 'Damnit, He's coming, He's coming. Should I go in or should I skip…?Victor still has my food though but I don't want to be awkward with Mr. Eye candy over there…Wait, I didn't just call him THAT…'
The Brit had eventually made his way towards the door and was about to close it when he came across a crouching student by the entrance and calls her name in surprise out of the earshot of the other students. "Ahh…I-isa?"
The young woman's dark brown eyes immediately meets startled emerald orbs, a few seconds passing before the girl stands up as she her hands tighten around the straps of her backpack.
"A-ah…S-sorry, I'm late. J-just got held up…"
"Y-yes, come in." Arthur faintly stutters as Larissa immediately enters the classroom and makes her way to her seat, not bothering to retrieve the plate of food on Victor's desk looking faintly flushed.
The Englishman immediately closes the door and slowly makes is way towards the front of the glass, clearing his throat before turning towards them, noting the comically large eyes of a shocked Mei and the evasive glance from Larissa. The look on both girl's faces made Arthur's mouth twitch in amusement faintly, considering that they seemed quite surprised at his presence.
"Alright, everyone. Let's get started with the package that has been provided by your teacher Mrs. Traugott." Arthur speaks as he quietly hands out the stack of papers which was being passed down to each student. "As soon as it is completed make sure to come and hand it in to me. All of you have another package to take home and complete. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them. Alright?"
A collective groan is heard among the group of students as they slowly take a package each. The thick-browed man merely raises a brow as he walks back towards the desk and settles down before starting to get to work on his own work. The time slowly passes as the class works on the package, the room being filled with the murmurs and chatter of the students. Soon enough the students come by and hand in their papers before taking another package from Arthur's desk.
"Finally…" Mei sighs as she finishes working on her stack of papers before turning around in her chair to face her other housemate. "Pssst, Isa! Did you know about this?"
"About the thick-caterpillar browed guy behind the desk claiming to be our stand-in teacher?" The Filipina replies as she eventually looks up at Mei with a scowl on her face. "You wanted to talk to me before this?"
"…" Mei bites her lip unsurely before whispering just loud enough for the other girl to hear. "Francis is also a teacher…He's an art teacher…"
"What!?" Larissa whispers harshly as her eyes widen at the revelation. "He's in the art room then? So you had him ?"
Mei jolts at the wording and retorts all the while her checks colouring a faint pink. "Y-yeah, but that doesn't matter!" Mei replies as she sighs. "We'll have to talk to them when we get home. They can't just do this!"
"Well…I don't really mind having them as teachers." The other girl replies as she tries to finish the class work, feeling slightly flustered at the idea of having the Englishman as their teacher and grading their papers. "…considering that they are actually making an effort to find a job and help with the household bills, I can't really complain."
"Please Isa. We both know you're just ecstatic to have Mr. Kirkland as our teacher." The Cantonese leans back unto her chair and softly sighs as the other girl gave her a nonplused look before she gave the idea some thought. 'She's right. We would need both Francis and Arthur to find a stable job if they plan to stay with us.' Mei turns her head back to her housemate and glances over at the Englishman who was speaking to one of her classmates by his desk. 'Well, it doesn't seem so bad. England seems to know what he is doing…France too.'
The school bell soon cuts through Mei's train of thought as all the students start making their way to their teacher's desk to hand in their papers. Mei slowly gets up as she waits for Isa who finishes just in time following right behind her.
"I'm going to head straight home after this and finish the homework."
"Sounds good. I have to stop by the computer room, there's a short yearbook meeting. You can go home ahead."
The two soon reach Arthur's desk after all their other classmates had left the portable. Larissa immediately hands the Englishman her package along with Mei's before speaking up, ignoring all formalities.
"How did you get this job, Arthur?" The Filipina glances at the thick-browed Brit whilst holding unto the papers tightly as Arthur held unto the other side of the paper. "Please tell me this is a joke. You're definitely not a teacher."
"Young lady, I think you should watch your tone with me." The personification of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland met the gaze of the female housemate. "I am still your teacher at this time."
"And I am your landlady." The Filipina replied quietly as she held unto the papers still, feeling the blond tug at it. "I'll listen when you get your paycheck."
"Now listen here, Larissa. I am entitled to act in such a way considering my position as your English teacher-"
"You're just a substitute teacher, Arthur." Larissa interrupts shortly causing her to receive a glare from the Brit while Mei opens and closes her mouth, trying to break the tension in the air but does not find a
"I am still your teacher neither less and if you continue acting like this, I will be forced to teach you a lesson."
"W-what? What are you talking about?" The older girl points at the thick-browed blonde in front of her all the while trying to hide the fact that she was becoming more nervous.
"Step out of line and I will give you a failing mark and send you back to ESL class." The Englishman replies with a faint smirk on his lips while his eyes danced with glee.
"Y-you can't do that! I'm well versed and I have exceptional grades!" The Filipina squeaks as her eyes widen at the threat and Mei finally speaks up seeing that the other girl was looking slightly distressed. "I just got out of that class! You can't put me back in there!"
"H-hey, England. You don't have to do that. W-we were just surprised that you're our teacher." The Cantonese reasons as she stands in between the two, knowing that the other girl would not hesitate to throw in a swipe at the man. She glances at Arthur but only gets an unsatisfied look from the Brit.
"Don't give me a hard time as well, Mei." Arthur sighs tiredly as he stands up from his desk and pulls out an essay with various red marks all over it from a stack of papers then shows it to Mei. "Does this look familiar to you?"
"T-that's my essay!" Mei makes a grab for the paper but Arthur pulls it out her reach with a small smirk on his face. "W-why won't you give it to me?"
"As you can see, you are not passing this paper." Arthur states as he places the paper into the pile once again before meeting Mei's visage. "You know very well that this paper is quite a chunk of your grade and if you want to pass, you will not do anything stupid and not give me a hard time."
"T-that's not fair!" Mei squeaks as she tugs at her sleeve while glancing at the paper.
"You're going to get fired!" Larissa fires back before stepping around Mei to glare at Arthur.
"I doubt that. The school board won't fire a fine teacher such as myself with no negative records. You two should not cross me if you don't want your grades to suffer then." The Englishman speaks as he smiles bemusedly as the two girls give each other a worried look before meeting Arthur's eyes.
"What do you want then?" Larissa asks quietly as she narrows her eyes at the man in front of them. 'I swear to God that I'm going to make this man's life a living hell at home…I retract that comment about him being nice.'
"What's the catch, England?" Mei speaks unamused, not being used to being threatened by others. 'I can't be failing. He's joking right? I'm pretty sure my grades are fine. Right? Right?'
"I'm glad you two ladies are complying and had asked." The strawberry-haired blonde smiles faintly as he takes his seat again, linking his hands together after leaning unto his desk looking quite pleased with himself. "You two will be my servants."
"WHAT!?" Mei loudly shouts as her eyes widen at the younger blonde's words before slamming her hands on the desk. "Are you some kind of pervert who gets off-!?"
"W-WHAT!?" Arthur jolts at Mei's outburst and a vengeful burning redness creeps on his face all the way down to his ears. "Y-Y-YOU'RE CLEARLY OVER REACTING MEI!"
"…Your reaction nor your stuttering is not justifying your statement, Arthur." Mei replies as she watches Arthur with large eyes before whispering. "You're a closet pervert…"
"I-I AM NOT!" Arthur points at Mei as the flush on his face worsens. "Stop assuming things! If anything you're the pervert here! Assuming and thinking about such things!"
"W-WHA-!?" Mei jolts at the comment, a blushing creeping down her cheeks as well.
"…" Larissa who had been watching quietly with wide eyes as the two continue on with their loud and embarrassing exchange. "You are both perverts…"
"LARISSA!"
"ISA, SHUT UP!"
A/N: There are currently no translation notes for this chapter thus, a bit easier for me. I hope everyone enjoyed it and I am looking forward to hearing some reviews and any questions are fine as well!
Did anyone guess where that reference from earlier came from? If you hadn't figured it out, I won't be telling anytime soon. Hahaha. Ciao!
